VATICAN BISHOP ABUSED SEMINARIANS AND PRIESTS BACK HOME

Argentine bishop promoted by Pope Francis at Vatican accused of abusing seminarians.

An Argentine bishop, who suddenly resigned from his diocese in 2017 citing health reasons only to be appointed to a top Vatican administrative position by Pope Francis, is now under investigation for sexual abuse, the Vatican said in a statement today.
Alessandro Gissoti, interim director of the Vatican Press Office, said today that accusations against Bishop Gustavo Zanchetta emerged over recent months, about a year after Pope Francis created a position for him as “assessor” of the Holy See’s financial administration office.
Bishop Zanchetta resigned from his diocese of Oran in northwest Argentina in 2017, stating that “a health issue prevents me from carrying out the pastoral mission that was entrusted to me.” He added that he wished to relinquish his post as “soon as possible” so as to receive treatment elsewhere. “Please forgive me for having failed or deceived you,” Zanchetta wrote.
After his resignation, Zanchetta spent some time in Spain before being named as an advisor to the Administration of the Patrimony of the Holy See, which oversees the various real estate and other properties of the papacy. According to a papal spokesman, Zanchetta was appointed to the administrative position because of his professional abilities. During the investigation, Zanchetta will take a leave of absence from his work at the Vatican.
According to Gissoti, at the time of Zanchetta’s resignation, there had been accusations laid against him of authoritarianism and strained relations with members of the clergy. However, no accusations of sexual misdeeds emerged at that time. Bishop Luis Antonio Scozzina, who currently presides over Zanchetta’s former diocese, has several testimonies about Zanchetta that must still be reviewed.
According to El Tribuno, the newspaper of Salta, a province in northern Argentina, three seminarians accused Zanchetta of abuse and later left the seminary. Ten other seminarians were intimidated to remain silent about the abuse they had witnessed, said the report.
According to media reports, some of Zanchetta’s accusers were subjected to his reprisals and were reassigned. “Knowing the gravity of all types of abuse, the bishop is available to anyone who would like to present a complaint to begin the corresponding procedure for canonical justice, while recalling the right of all victims of abuse to seek ordinary justice [through civil authorities],” said a statement from the current bishop of Oran, an impoverished province that borders neighboring Bolivia.
The alleged abuse, according to testimony provided to the papal nunciature in Buenos Aires, occurred at parties organized by Zanchetta where he offered alcohol to his alleged victims. Reportedly, the seminarians were minors at the time. Zanchetta founded a seminary in Oran where six seminarians were admitted. That seminary is due to be closed.

ZANCHETTA

Zanchetta was under a cloud of accusations even before being named bishop of Oran. According to El Tribuno, Zanchetta was accused of abuse of power and financial misdeeds during his time as bishop of Quilmes, a city near Buenos Aires. A number of priests and laity expressed opposition at that time to his nomination to the Oran diocese. It was Pope Francis himself, a fellow Argentine, who elevated Zanchetta to the post at Oran. Zanchetta was one of the first bishops named by the pope, a fellow Argentine.
Zanchetta hastily left behind his flock in Oran without even a customary farewell Mass on July 29, 2017, after returning from the Vatican where he had offered his resignation to Pope Francis. He departed to Corrientes, several hundred miles away, and was the guest of the archbishop there until the pope accepted the resignation three days later.
***
Statement by Alessandro Gissoti, interim director of the Vatican Press Office
Bishop Zanchetta was not removed from the diocese of Oran. It was he who resigned. The reason for his resignation is linked to his difficulty in managing relations with the diocesan clergy and very tense relations with the priests of the diocese. At the time of his resignation there had been accusations of authoritarianism against him, but there had been no accusation of sexual abuse. The problem that emerged then was linked to his inability to govern the clergy.
After his resignation he spent a period of time in Spain. After the period in Spain, in consideration of his capability for management, he was appointed councilor of APSA [Administration of the Patrimony of the Holy See] (a position that does not provide governmental responsibility for the dicastery).
No charges of sexual abuse had arisen at the time of appointment as advisor. The accusations of sexual abuse date back to this fall. On the basis of these accusations and the news recently reported by the media, the bishop of Oran has already assembled some testimonies that are yet to come to the Congregation for Bishops. If the elements to proceed are confirmed, the case will be referred to the special commission of the bishops. During the investigation, Msgr. Zanchetta will abstain from work.

AND IRELAND?

The problem of bishops and other senior clerics sexually abusing seminarians and young priests is something that has happened and is happening in Ireland too!

This will come out into the light when the young priests and seminarians come forward and speak up.

In clerical circles the names of those involved are known and talked about.

Its the main reason that the Irish bishops cannot sort out Maynooth. If they tried to the seminarians and young priests involved would break their silence and all hell would break loose.

Many of the seminarians and young priests involved are active homosexuals themselves and some of them are being generously rewarded financially for their services.

The rewards come in actual cash, cars, holidays and designer clothes and cosmetics.

It is only a matter of time until some seminarian or younger priest is angered or betrayed by a collared or mitred sugar daddy and that young man will sing like a canary.

That is the time we will see the Irish Zanchetta’s exposed.

Bishop Pat, what are the words and phrases you no longer wish me to use?
Are you happy with YOUR suppression of truth?
Satan undoubtedly agrees with you, for he would rather a spade were called a spoon. Sounds so much more media acceptable, now doesn’t it?😆

I hope I do not suppress truth. But the truth can be told in good, rational and meaningful words. And, you are very good at those.

I’m shocked re Kildorrery altar mass as i wasn’t up to speed. However i found out the name of that priest who was a curate in my parish (before Kildorrery). Heard problem with drink as he hanged out with my brother for a good while even on a cruise. But my brother ended up in some hospital somewhere in France, First time i saw him was at my brother funeral. Coming from an abuse background named in Ryan report, i didn’t want to approach him but to a PP re my request which was granted. That time i never knew him, just heard various stories about him and his drink problem, Then that altar incident was a shocker even in my mind. it sounded like satanic but it was disgusting/disrespectful. Looking back i realised it wasn’t surprising or shocking re priest cos of a girl in school that i went to. It was somewhat similar to that.

On this Feast of the Epiphany I pray Pat that you will have a new spiritual epiphany – one whereby you will allow God touch your heart with a compassionate disposition, especially towards the many people you despise and hate, those people towards whom you have a vengeance. May this epiphany lift you from the trough of venom and hate inciting words. May epiphanies of light, truth, humility and integrity find their way into your soul and conscience.

You keep being rumbled, don’t you? The self-styled ‘good’ and ‘prayerful’ people who post here? Your actual behaviour (as opposed to that you imply) never quite coincides with the image you present of yourselves. Why, like the institutional Roman Catholic Church!

You may call truth ‘vicious’, but it is still truth. Roman Catholic priests are Christ-betrayers, and their first official act of betrayal is when they ritually vow to obey a bishop rather than Jesus himself.
Are you one of these Christ-betrayers? It wouldn’t surprise me, any more than your attempt to suppress the truth about yourselves. After all, dark deeds of betrayal are best done in the obscurity of public ignorance. This is how priests operated when minors were sexually abused, isn’t it? Everything hushed up. I suppose you would call reports of these atrocious crimes ‘hate speech’ as well. Anything to stem the flow of dark truth about yourselves.
Too late for that, priest.😆

“It is only a matter of time until some seminarian or younger priest is angered or betrayed by a collared or mitred sugar daddy and that young man will sing like a canary”. So true ! I’m sure there are some bishops around who are fretting about what might come up. It only takes a whiff of suspicion nowadays, for someone to make the right kind of accusation in the right quarters, and a bishop (or a priest) is suspended and probably never gets back in to ministry again. I would not want to be a bishop with a murky past right now. Once the ‘caca’ leaks out, that’s it, you are finished. And there will be a good number of them, I’m sure.

“According to El Tribuno, Zanchetta was accused of abuse of power and financial misdeeds during his time as bishop of Quilmes, a city near Buenos Aires.”

The only difficulty with this allegation is that he wasn not ever bishop of Quilmes. It would be a pity to let the facts get in the way of a good story.

Magna is in denial of nothing. He didn’t say the Press report about this bishop and Quilmes was accurate, only that it must have been a typographical error. This in no way invalidates the serious allegations against the bishop.
You have lost sight of what is imporant and relevant here, and one must ask why. The Vatican itself has now disclosed that this bishop is under investigation for allegations of sexual abuse, including those concerning abuse of seminarians when they were minors.
And where instead is your attention? On a likely typograhical error! 😕

Are these seminarians who will throw a fit, if things don’t go their way, really victims at all, Pat? They are being paid. They were not coerced. They were and are willing accomplices.
Is not unjust to class them along with victims who were coerced, who were overpowered physically and/or psychologically?
A truly victimised person does not “benefit” from their abuse – which truly is abuse – unsolicited, unwanted, devastatingly destructive and, from which, they may never recover in this life.
These “sugar daddy” clients seem willing accomplices. I wouldn’t even term them male prostitutes or “rent boys”, as many who engage in such activities are broken, vulnerable and desperate. In fact, many male and female “sex workers” have been sexually traumatised as children and young people.
What you are describing about these seminarians shows them as crass and opportunistic manipulators.
What I insincerely hope is that, sooner rather than later, one or some of them does, indeed, become disaffected/disgruntled for some reason and does blow the whistle on any wicked Irish bishops and high-ranking clerics. They all need to be exposed – the Irish Zanchettas and McCarricks – and those of whatever other nationalities.
Sooner rather than later! The whole damned thing is a vile and putrid mess. Drain the swamp and do it fast!
Priest.

I understand your points. But no matter what the young guys are like is it not very serious that bishops, priests and formators are egging them on?

Like

Yes, Pat, it is very very serious indeed that bishops and priests are “egging them on”.
I still think these manipulative seminarians are in a very different category to innocent victims of clerical predators.
Seminarians who are “benefiting” from their liaisons with these bishops and priests are accomplices in grave sin. They are culpable though, perhaps, the greater guilt lies with those who bear the greater responsibility.
I hope the whole rotten bunch – seminarians and their “sugar daddy” priests and bishops – are exposed soon. These scandals are distilled poison.

Look out for news in coming months about sexually active gay Priests in Archdiocese of Glasgow. A few have left over the years as they couldn’t keep leading double lives, but some still remain and some of them are very senior. Some have been and still are at it like rabbits both in Chapel houses, saunas and hotel rooms here and abroad, including in Rome. One in particular has been in a relationship with another Priest for over 20 years. Pray for them all that they will have the courage to ship out and that those who are going to expose them do so for the right reasons.

“Some still remain” needs changed to “many still remain”. Maybe they will be forced to go out and find a real job instead of sponging off the lay faithful to fund their holidays and sauna trips.
Look up one of their sisters “Rev Jim Rooney” on Facebook and Instagram. Like +Pat he has set up his own independent ministry, married a twink and is still a Priest. Plenty opportunities out there. Say what you like about Pat and co. At least they aren’t leading double

Gosh this Glasgow nonsense is repetitive and boring. If you have evidence (which you clearly don’t) then let us know all about it. Won’t be wasting my breath on this one.

Like

Ah, demanding evidence. There is usually no evidence for what everyone has known by rumour for decades. I could tell you things about the religious order I belonged to, but have no evidence and am sure that when the shit hits the fan everyone will deny ever knowing.
The fact you are asking for evidence is interesting. Evidence is of course a legal word, and there is a problem with evidence for priests’ behaviour. Since the poster above is talking about (presumably) consensual sexual acts between adults, nobody would be interested in trying to secure a conviction. Religiously and faithfully however, the allegation is that a number of clergy are not living the lives they publicly profess.
In these cases the point is surely to call them to the life they profess or tell them to get out? And if these clergy misuse power over others, even in ways which are not illegal, they can only expect to get called out on their behaviour in a public way if private appeals have failed, surely?

Great update on Cardinal Dolan’s Sozial media: We bishops are sinners; we are not primarily managers or CEO’s, but, first and foremost, men of faith and prayer; pastors, not attorneys, public relations men, or strategists. This week, we leave desks, computers, and strategic sessions for a week of prayer and guided reflection, and in the end, may accomplish more than another meeting. 10:54am is correct. Zanchetta’s alleged victims were minors and therefore could not have consented. That’s crime.
The seminarians in Ireland are allegedly having affairs with these priests and bishops and enjoying “benefits”.
They are not victims. They are participants with their higher-ranking sexual partners in mortal sin.
If these seminarians, even if over the age of consent, were forced to have sex with these priests and bishops, if they were in some way overpowered and subjected to sexual attacks and activities against their wills, then they really would be “victims”.
But it would seem that is not the case. They are willingly engaged in these relationships and they are culpable.
So stop muddying the waters, Pat. It hurts REAL VICTIMS.

I rather agree with @14:13 about seminarians having a reciprocal “arrangement”with clergy, the better connected the better. Catholic Archbishop of Dublin Dr Diarmuid Martin has urged caution over anti-abortion protests at GP surgeries. He said that while “everybody has a right to make a protest”, GP surgeries were used by everybody for all sorts of reasons.
Speaking on RTÉ’s This Week, Dr Martin said: “With regard to protest, we have a constitution which protects freedom of expression, everybody has a right to make a protest.””Protesting within the rule of law and the rule of the constitution, you can’t be against it.
“I would be particularly cautious about protesting against GPs because everybody is going there, and people go there for all sorts of reasons.
“I’m not a person personally for protest, what the church should be doing is strengthening its resolve to help women in crisis and to educate people about the broad range.”
Asked about the prospect of exclusion zones around medical facilities where abortions were being administered, Dr Martin said: “Exclusion zones have to be introduced within the realm of the constitution which allows people to protest and demonstrate.” “Protest can be legitimate, but you can’t absolutise, it’s up to the Government to ensure that the various rights of people are protected.”
The Catholic Archbishop also voiced support for medical professionals with a conscientious objection to abortion who “clash with the law”.
“Respecting the rights of conscience of individuals, even where they may come to clash with the law is a very important thing in any democracy. Where you begin to trample the rights of conscience then you’re moving into a very different form of government,” he said.
Dr Martin said conscientious objectors in the medical profession might have to clash with the law, and that he hoped in such cases there would be no professional sanctions for those people.
He said he did not believe the question of abortion would be revisited in the near future, but that the church should plan a role in attempting to ensure that abortions are rare.
“One of the things in Government policy that was constantly stressed is that abortion should be rare. We have to do something to help people to make sure that that is the case, and that people who want to keep their child can do it, and can do it with dignity.”
Asked about his own future, the 74-year-old Archbishop of Dublin said he was coming towards a time when it would be good for him to retire.
“It would be good, not just that I retire, but that there would be a different leadership in the church, a younger one, because we are facing very different challenges”.
However he said it was up to the pope to decide when change would happen.
“Maybe when the change happens I won’t like it” he said.

I believe that Martin and company have sold out the prolife cause and prolife people 30/40 years ago. They tick boxes and think we don’t notice. They don’t stand up to protect the child in the womb but they think that they can protect themselves. Thankfully, God will have the last word.
