VICTIM SAYS SHE TOLD SINGING PRIEST 30 YEARS AGO THAT SHE HAD BEEN ABUSED BY A FELLOW D&C PRIEST. PRIEST DENIES THE REPORT.

THE 47 YEAR OLD VICTIM OF SEVERE SEXUAL ABUSE BY A DOWN AND CONNOR PRIEST IS SAYING THAT SHE TOLD FATHER MARTIN O’ HAGAN OF “THE PRIESTS” 30 YEARS AGO THAT ANOTHER D&C ABUSED HER AS A LITTLE GIRL.

Martin O’Hagan

We have decided to call the victim “Marie”.

1

TREANOR REFUSING TO MEET DOWN AND CONNOR ABUSE VICTIM

At the time she told Martin O’Hagan he was the curate at St. Matthew’s parish in East Belfast.

The parish priest at the time was a Father Eamon O’Brien who has since passed away.

Her revelation to the two priests was made at a dinner in the priest’s house to thank parish volunteers. Marie was part of the parish choir and she and Martin O’Hagan performed duos during church services.

At the time Father O’Brien promised Marie he would do something about her abuse – but it seems he never did. O’Brien himself had the reputation of being a womaniser.

Did Martin O’Hagan do anything about it?

I asked him via email yesterday morning:

Dear Martin,

Xxxxx from St Matthews, who used to sing duos with you when you were a curate there says she told you and Eamon O’Brien of her sexual abuse by Fr Xxxx Xxxxxxx as a child.

She says she told you this in the context of a meal for church volunteers held in the presbytery.

Did you inform the bishop of her abuse?

Did you inform the police or social services?

If not, why not?

Pat

Martin replied:
Dear Pat
I always take complaints of abuse very seriously and ensure any complaint brought to my attention is reported to the statutory authorities.
I have never received any allegations in relation to the priest you have named in your correspondence.
However I have passed on your query and its’ content to the Diocesan Safeguarding Office and have asked them to liaise with the appropriate statutory authorities.
Sincerely
Martin

At the time of the abuse Marie was only 12/13. The priest who abused her was a priest of St Matthew’s parish and he abused her both in his car and on church property.

When she told O’Hagan and O’Brien about the abuse she was only 17.

Had it being address at that time her intense suffering of the last 30 years could have been avoided or at least reduced.

Marie is still trying to get justice – but the alleged abuser has fled the jurisdiction and the PSNI are having problems getting him retuned.

IS ABUSE FUGITIVE STILL BEING PAID BY TREANOR

NOEL “AIRMILES” TREANOR

Marie believes that the fugitive priest is still being paid a monthly salary by Noel Treanor and the diocese of Down and Connor.

He is a “retired” priest of the diocese and the thought is that he is being given £1,500 – £2,000 a month to draw out from his bank account in his new country.

pounds_sterling_notes_cash_money_currency_bank_notes_wealth-489744

Do you not think that Noel Treanor should be telling him that he has a most serious moral and legal duty to return and answer the charges against him – while of course, regarding him as innocent until proven guilty.

Marie is not the only alleged victim.

In my opinion, his monthly salary should be withheld pending his return. Otherwise, Treanor and D&C are aiding his fugitivity.

The fugitive is claiming that he is not well enough to travel.

Oh, we have seen this all before, haven’t we ???:
1. Priest denying that he was told / or knew about abuse perpetrated by another priests: See Cardinal Wuerl and his sudden recollection that, yes, he knew about McCarrick and his activities, but swore blind that he didn’t when first asked because he misremembered ! Oh, of course, you misremember an accusation against a senior archbishop / cardinal, of course you do !
2. Absent / abusing / wanted for questioning priest living abroad after fleeing still been, paid by the diocese, such payment being a complicit help to the man to stay away and avoid having to answer to the authorities: See Father James Robinson from Birmingham who was paid by his diocese for years while fleeing from justice, with the diocese claiming they did not know where he was, but still able to get money to him ! Yeah !?
3. Priest saying he is too ill to travel to come back and face accusations: See Cardinal Pell who claimed he was too ill with a heart condition to return to Australia until Francis required him to go.
4. Priest fleeing the country after having been tipped off by other priests / VG / bishop that the police were going to come for him: See Fr now enjoying the sun and refusing to come back and speak to the PSNI about accusations that have been made about him.
5. And another f*****g singing priest: See O’Hagan. Spare us from The Priests’ pious warbling, please !
6. And it all goes to show that the Church is still complicit in and aiding and abetting the cover up of abusing priests by denying, paying, warning off, and protecting. And all this in spite of their public protestations about wanting to ensure that these matters are brought to the light and to justice, and their concern for victims. Rubbish. They are still quietly protecting their own and keeping them away from the light and justice.
7. The PSNI should be raiding Chateau Noel and the diocesan offices and taking away the files for investigation. The diocese is complicit in covering up, and is criminally liable, and should be taken to task. Those files will hold a lot of secrets that the diocese is hiding and which would help the PSNI to bring priests to justice.

The priest can still be extradited from Spain with a European arrest warrant EVEN if unfit or unwell to do so. Those saying anything to the contrary are being totally misleading. The question we must ask is why the PSNI have not done so for months now? Is there a case to even answer? Something not quite right here and are we being told the proper facts?

Like

I’d have to agree, particularly with point 6.
I think this moral corruption is endemic in church institutional culture.

Like

Sadly these priests are trained to ‘deny and shut up’ or ‘shut up’. The deny if made is often based on mental reservation – a post WW2 moral invention of the church which should be abolished.

Like

Don’t be so shocked Pat; bishops often overlook the effects of abuse. Fermot Farrell even once said to me that Colm O’Gorman was exaggerating and was emotionally unwell. He amazingly ignored the vast history of abuse and rape suffered by the man.
This singing priest might succeed to D&C. Also; if this chap got a £1.4m recording deal, could he not pay the £1k /mth for a soup kitchen? Or do good priests sit on vast wealth?

Like

Oh, yes! I remember Fr Martin O’Hagan, principally for his tendency to float around the Ulster Hospital, where he tended to be a chaplain.
There is no tendency to exaggerate the effects of effeminacy on one’s, er, tendency to float. 😆

The Priests are a trio of limp wristed, effeminate, girly, giggly, saccharine sweet, twats. Always talking about how being a priest is so important to them, their love for the mammies, their love for the Holy Mass, and smooching up to old ladies (no doubt with an eye to the Will). But ready to absent themselves as often as they can for the stage, the adulation and the money. For God’s sake, is this is the model of priesthood that we want, or deserve ?

Like

Yes that’s the Carta composite alright. They have joked before about their fellow priest,

What qualifications did the ohagan brothers have?
None is the answer…they should have employed an expert.
Never read this before, I won’t be listening to their music or watching them ever again.
Didn’t the doting(supposedly) bishop of Derry say something similar about sexual abuse.

OMG. Is this guy a brother of Fraulein Eugenica? Mr Treanors butler? Revelations of their misdeeds keep on coming. Ain’t no way back now Noel. The genie is truly out of the bottle and is spilling the beans. Next time you fly away it might be better to only go one way and not return to this mess.

Like

I’d say if poor Noel could go back in time he would stay in Brussels and never darken the door of the stinking mess that is Down and Connor.

There is no greater sinner than the one who constantly points out the faults, failures, sinfulness and criminal misdeeds of others while smiling happimy behind a laptop dishing out hatred and venom. There is a need for radical reform, renewal and Christ like behaviour from all Church personnel and not the tyranny of abusive language. The abuse of any person is totally reprehensible and morally unacceptable. The sniping, mockery and ridiculing of clergy does not serve the cause of any abused person. We must name criminal acts and seek justice but not through these vitriolic comments.

Like

2:04;
The sexual abuse, so called scandal, is going on in the public domain for over 20 plus years ! When is this radical reform, renewal and Christ like behavior in Church personnel going to happen?
Isn’t it strange that Bishops are only finally meeting in Rome in February when this has gone on for so long!
It raises all sorts of questions.

That Christian tradition of look at your own sins not others is precisely one of the things which underlies the abuse scandal.
If you know someone else is going to make your faults public you won’t do them.
Unless you’re a psychopathic bastard who doesn’t give a shit, like so many clergy.

Who said he was appointed Ordinary of D&C? A bishop’s jurisdiction is not geographical but people from many dioceses recognise Pat as their Ordinary.

But perhaps your problem is the free speach exhibited here?

Joe Mc Guinness has been given the consolation prize of PP of Carrickmasross replacing Larry Duffy who got the bishop’s job in Clogher! What an insult to Mc Guinness who was so sure that he would be the bishop that he moved half the clergy and cut half the weekend masses last year. Poor bugger!

Like

Seriously? It makes logical sense to swap roles rather than have a chain reaction of priest changes.

He may have moved priests but this allowed 4 men retire. He may have cut masses – but that’s par for the course across Ireland.

Park your bitterness and pray.

Like

What a disaster McGuinness left the diocese in. He cut half the Masses and allowed stubborn PP’s to dictate to him in keeping all their Mass times. He replaced very popular men with dictators who are now undoing the good work that was done. Disaster. By all accounts Larry Duffy was a good choice for Clogher and well liked. Now he needs to sort out Enniskillen.

Why; what’s happening in Enniskillen?

Also. I dont think I’ve seen a post in ages from you. Welcome home.

Don’t believe the Clogher Curate as he has an axe to grind. He was reprimanded by Joe Mc for being on this blog before and a known associate of Buckley. Now a new bishop appears he has resurfaced and interestingly has taken delight in Joe Mc’s clear demotion as announced on this blog later. It’s also well known that the Clogher Curate is stirring up trouble for Enniskillen. Ignore the CC because he’s a trouble maker of the highest degree.

Like

You just narrowed that down to two curates. Now that you are identifying these two men you should explain your publication of the accusation or apologise to them.

I agree, Clogher Curate is not to be trusted. He’s just stirring up trouble. Don’t believe a word he says and you’re idiots if you do.

In my experience the people dismissed as trouble makers are often genuine whistleblowers. This is even more true in the Catholic Church.

Speaking of Armagh. Get yourself over to the Magherafelt parish centre Pat next Saturday evening. The egocentric PP is putting on another show. Pat, 30/35 years ago I encountered a case of sexual abuse of a minor by a prominent member of the community and church. The only guidelines I had were my instincts that this was totally wrong, immoral, unacceptable and requiring immediate action which I took. I reported to my authorities both in church and state, even though I had no specific guidelines. In my tenacity to ensure the utmost protection of other minors in the church I managed to have the perpetrator removed. Had I been better informed and resourced I’d have done much more. Relevant action was taken upon my insistence. Abuse happens all the time and in every age. Wherever and however it occurs it is repugnant and the needs and lives of the victims must be a paramount priority. Probably because my parents always advised us as children about the “dangers” of strange people (in the 50’s/60’s), I’ve always had a sense of right/wrong regarding unacceptable behaviour and transgressions of boundaries. There can be no excuse by grown men at any time in leadership within the Church not to have instinctively known the absolute horror of sexual abuse and that there should never have been a hiding place for abusers. There should still not be any ambiguity around the nature and understanding of the criminality of sexual abuse. Because of institutional reputation being given priority, regaining the trust and respect of people is almost impossible. However, in my condemnation of abuse, I must always- and – will always have to examine my conscience on a daily basis. I, personally, carry a deep shame for what was done in the past and at the pathetic, unforgivable slowness of responses given today by the Church.

In your bid to be seen as the most satirical and clever, you all forget the victims! I know what it’s like to try to live any type of normal life after being a victim of clerical abuse especially when I felt so near to God when I was with him! However, as he told me frequently I make him a better priest, at 16 I believed him! I was sent to him from God! For 10 years I was Mary Magdalene to his Jesus! At 60 I say a prayer for him every night, that God has forgiven him his sins! RIP FR! Just a little something for you all to mull over between your spats of wit!
