HOGAN – GORMAN AND JONES – A BIZARRE TRIO OF PRIESTS

THREE PRIEST COLLEAGUES WHO ARE RIGHT WING AND AT LEAST ONE PLAYS WITH DOLLS.

FATHER JOHN HOGAN – PP MULTYFARNHAM WHO REFUSES COMMUNION TO POLITICIANS.

FATHER FAVID JONES – WELSH MONK LIVING IN MEATH DIOCESE.

These three guys seem to be friends or know each other.

They are obviously youngish right wing priests with a hankering over the “good old days” of the RC church.

I find them all very strange.

Watch these videos and let me know what you think.

OWENY INTERVIEWS DAVEY

——————————————————————————————-

20190128_132714

A Catholic priest has stated that Catholics in Northern Ireland have started supporting the DUP because it is “the most consistently pro-life and pro-traditional marriage party in Northern Ireland.” Fr. Owen Gorman, parish priest in Aghadrumsee, wrote in Catholic monthly newspaper ‘Alive’ that “Catholics have started to support Peter Robinson’s Democratic Unionist Party (DUP).” He believes that Catholics “whose faith informs their voting” are now less likely to vote for Sinn Fin “because Sinn Fin favours legislating for ‘gay marriage’ and supports the availability of abortion in certain circumstances (e.g. in cases of rape, incest, or the threat of suicide).” The outspoken cleric from Castleblaney Co. Monaghan also criticised the SDLP for its support for full marriage equality for same-sex couples.

Fr. Gorman wrote: “While Sinn Fin support remains high in the Catholic community, they do not, however, have the support of Catholics who are committed to the cause of life and marriage.” He points to 12 March when Sinn Fein (joined by two Alliance MLAs and the Green Party) blocked an amendment to the Criminal Justice Bill which would have banned abortions being performed by private clinics. That amendment needed cross-community support and Sinn Fin’s petition of concern meant that, although 53 MLAs supported the amendment and 40 opposed, it did not win enough support from nationalist MLAs.
The breakdown of the vote was 44 unionists and nine nationalists for the abortion amendment, while 26 nationalists, five unionists and nine others voted against.
According to Fr. Gorman: “Catholics understand therefore, that a vote for Sinn Fin is a vote for the weakening of the institution of marriage and the right to life for all the unborn.” He added: “Sinn Fin opposition was crucial to defeating the amendment. No wonder then that many Catholics, not wanting to betray their conscience and their faith, won’t support the party.” On 1 October 2012, the DUP raised a petition of concern against a joint Sinn Fin and Green Party proposal by Sinn Fein and the Green party to allow full marriage rights for same sex couples.

Fr. Gorman noted: “Unionist parties opposed the motion but both Sinn Fin and the SDLP supported it. That the SDLP lent their support to the redefinition of marriage along same-sex lines surprised and disappointed many Catholics.” He concludes that Catholics “who uphold marriage” are beginning to look toward the DUP because it “promotes the biblical understanding of marriage as between one man and one woman.” Fr. Gorman was abroad this week and therefore unable to explain to The Impartial Reporter his evidence of Catholic support for the DUP, particularly in Fermanagh South Tyrone, which traditionally has a nationalist majority.
In response to the priest’s claims, DUP MLA Arlene Foster said: “There has been growing evidence for some time that stable devolution in Northern Ireland has allowed people to look beyond some of the traditional political barriers.” She added: “There have been a number of important debates within the Assembly and at Westminster in recent months where we are aware that people from a Catholic background will have supported the DUP stance,” adding that the DUP “wishes to attract support from people from every background.” Sinn Fin MLA Phil Flanagan added: “Regardless of what some people attempt to portray as fact, Sinn Fin is not in favour of abortion; the party voted against the extension of the 1967 Act to the north when it was proposed in the Assembly.

“However, Sinn Fin believe that where a woman’s life or mental health is at risk or in grave danger then the final decision on seeking a termination should rest with the woman.” On same sex marriage, he says: “Sinn Fin, as a party, advocates the right to social, economic, gender and cultural equality. This encompasses equality for all, irrespective of race, age, marital or family status, sexual orientation, physical or mental capacities, ethnicity, social origin, political or religious affiliations, or membership of the travelling Community.”

I think Jones is possibly a harmless – I would hope, though wouldn’t care to put it to the test – eccentric, of a type not so uncommon at one time as described by Peter Anson: oddballs turning up first at one monastery then another. Hogan and Gorman though are parish priests, and I wouldn’t go anywhere near them, let alone give them access to schools. Priests are only empowered through collusion of the laity, BUT in the case of education that is not actually true, certainly in Ireland. Just as the Irish people to their huge credit have voted with their feet on gay marriage and provision of legal safe abortion, so the disenfranchisement of the clergy from the school system should be the next objective. I mean, HONESTLY, would you want any of these characters addressing your children or having any kind of contact with them? Funny how these types of priests are always banging on about the family, yet their preaching is vicious, hurtful and divisive: pack your gay sons and pregnant daughters off to England, and keep sinners off the sacraments! Since when have priests had squeaky clean hands?

Ah ya, vote for politicians because of their abstract moral ideologies rather than their economic policies.
The reality is that it’s the economic policies the really effect every household. The morality of getting decent healthcare, education and housing for every family is what people should vote on. Finance these is key but people will vote away their standard of living to prevent Mary down the road from getting an abortion or Joe getting a divorce. Narrow mindedness has sunk this country into a backwash

Like

Yes Pat it is strange that three priests would believe in Catholic moral teaching and be willing to put their necks on the line for it. So strange in these days of quintessentially Protestants masquerading as Catholic clergy. The Bishops or priests who have the balls to stand up for the real faith are few

I don’t know what to say about Fr David Jones, except that he comes across as irritatingly and bumblingly bipolar. Clearly, a hermits’ lifestyle is not helping his mental health. Then again, living as a hermit keeps him, and his maddening voice and antics, away from everyone else (except when he’s being interviewed by ‘my name is Fr Owen Gorman’ Was he baptised with the title ‘Father’?).
Why did Gorman think that interviewing this clown would help anyone’s faith? And for a ‘hermit’, Jones seems to spend an inordinate amount of time in other people’s company
By the way Fr Owen, Slemish mountain is nowhere near the Church of Ireland cathedral in Downpatrick: Slemish mountain is in County Antrim, not in County Down

Oddly enough i got over superficial irritation at “his maddening voice and antics” and found edification in what he said.

Here we go again. Pat the Crap Bogus Bishop is encouraging the worst possible reaction to these 3 priests. They may be eccentric and old fashioned in their views but they are harming no one. Indeed they get good receptions at their masses. People are taught their long forgotten faith from them. I applaud all of them. There are other guys who deserve greater scrutiny – like that Larne boyo!

Like

Quite right, 12.49 am. They are good priests, even if we disagree with them on abortion and so on. Holding people up to ridicule only boomerangs on the mocker.

Like

Ridicule is one of the pins that puncture their balloons of superiority and specialness.

Like

Actually these priests are pretty au courant with the present state of the Irish church. The high camp of Fr Jones is a way of being himself, quite fearlessly, and that should be appreciated. “This army of non-consecrated arms is not healthy” he rants; but he is right that Irish liturgy needs to be renewed spiritually.

Like

11.10: Buckkey, you assigned the words superiority and specialness to these priests. Rightly so! They deserve praise not your derogatory nonsense and hatred. You are the lowest of the low. Your continual harrassing of good priests is nauseating. In fact, your daily viewing into other peopke’s lives is a psychological disorder and sickness. It’s a perversion in its own way. Sadly, Pat, you have a long pathway to walk before you achieve the moral integrity, decency, commitment and fideity to God that these so called “bizarre” priest have achieved. Your malicious intent towards these men is reprehensible and undeserving.

It’s online Bishop Pat. Just google it. But, seeing as Bishop deenihan has inherited a lot from Bishop Smith, perhaps Bishop Smith can enlighten us about the Robert Troy issue. Perhaps Pat you could visit Multyfarham and invite the parishioners to a meeting? Hear their views? Seeing as neither Bishop Smith nor Bishop Deenihan is saying anything about the issue.

Like

Has David Jones got piles? He was squirming on his seat throughout the interview as if something uncomfortable was up his backside.

Like

Pat, sad to see you targeting people to ridicule again. Can you not think of a worthwhile subject for discussion?

Like

True, Pat. Hogan did target the politician. Might have been better had he targeted his bishop instead. But there’s no need for us to target people. We should be able for a mature discussion. In any case Hogan did us a favour. He exposed the can of worms that the bishops and leading clergymen are not taking responsibility and informing the discussion as best they can. Note their silence. That’s the same silence that pro life people have endured for thirty years.

Like

@10:21 do you not think that excluding someone from communion and delving beneath it all is not a worthwhile discussion? The editor of The Sunday Times certainly thought so.

Some of the discussion yesterday was good esp with Magna’s input but your blog piece today seems deliberately skewed to encourage ridicule. What would the Sunday times know anyway. They are part of the media the enemy of the people.

Anon@ 10:42; Frs. Hogan, Jones, and Gorman have put themselves in the public domain on Catholic television and social media. I’m not interested in ridiculing anyone, but in the context of Fr. Hogan’s action re Mr. Troy, Fr. Hogan has drawn attention and curiosity on himself, particularly if he has not followed due process in Canon law.
That appears to be the case. This is a highly sensitive problematic issue, particularly in America.

It’s near impossible to look up priests on the Meath website. You have to look up parishes. Used to be able to look up priests and find where they were. Some have been updated. For instance Fr Campbell the new Secretary is listed as Mullingar, which is correct; but Dermot Farrell is still down as Dunboyne PP VG. Yet Fr Robert McGivney is no longer listed as Mullingar and I’m not sure he appears in any other parish listing, it’s hard to navigate. Where is he? Where is Fr Dwayne Gavin? Or are they on sabbatical? Who updates the website? The older way was easier to check

At this stage Im surprised these diocesan sites name their priests at all. Not doing so would help them cover up more.

Excluding some ( actually the majority if we are frank ) from communion, and getting into a tizzy over “unconsecrated” hands touching the Host is what makes a mockery of our faith. It runs contrary to the ministry of Jesus which the Eucharist re-presents: community and sacrifice are dependent, not exchangeable. In John’s gospel, Jesus tells his disciples they must “chew” on his flesh, which shows he had a very different and more robust understanding the Eucharist than obsessing about possible violations of liturgical rubrics.

quite right, Anonymous 11:18 a.m. But at least Frs Gorman and Jones are not lambasting and mocking others as so many rightists do. The pope just said: “In some Catholic communications media, there is no compassion,” the pope said. Instead, one finds “schism, condemnation, malice, fury, self-aggrandizement (and) the denunciation of heresy.”

I feel for the Meath Chronicle reporter who interviewed such a disordered and bumbling mind as David Jones. Jones was all over the place, both verbally and conceptually. Jones needs a therapeutic fose of litium, or ritalin.

One of the characteristics of a GENUINE contemplative relationship with God is personal calmness. Jones is highly excitable and aggressive in his behaviour, not calm and collected.

If you can stretch yourself a little more, make the effort to watch Jones’ video on Halloween. It’s a recording of a radio interview with him on the subject by some local radio station.

Jones thoroughly disapproves of customs like trick-or-treating, not because they’re adopted Americanisms, but because he believes such customs to be based on ancient pagan ritual dedicated to evil. He is right about the origin of at least some of these, but he takes it all far too seriously. His facial contortions, especially as he speaks, are entertainnent in their own right.

What really is harmless fun, Jones sees as a revival of pagan practice. (I must tell this to the next clutch of youngsters who call at my home on Halloween night, eyes expectantly aglow, and scold them before offering exorcism as the only remedy for their plight. I’m sure they’ll understand.)

I’m tempted to think that station staff took it all with an amused pinch of salt because, in a corner just behind the crackpot, is what looks like a coffin lid.

Does Jones cart this around as a reminder of his mortality?

Or were station staff just taking the piss?

I eventually found the video on Halloween. For a man who is a hermit praying for the world, etc, he certainly spends plenty of time on YouTube. Has Fr. Jones an assistant with camera work and editing, etc?
Did you catch the reference to a Carmelite seminary at the beginning? What was that about? Was Fr. Jones in a Carmelite seminary? Is he an exorcist or an appointed exorcist? I see what you mean, Magna! In charity, nuff said!
