Paderborn Archdiocese Accepts Seminarians with Homosexual Orientation

The Catholic Archdiocese of Paderborn in Germany will expressly accept homosexual candidates for ordination, according to seminary rector Michael Menke-Peitzmeyer, provided that they observe celibacy.
“We must distinguish between a homosexual orientation of a person and homosexual practice,” he said.
This applies to all sexual orientations. Homosexual practice would be a reason for exclusion, according to Menke-Peitzmeyer.

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) – Pope Francis warned Italian bishops this week to vet carefully applicants to the priesthood and reject anyone they suspected might be homosexual, local media reported on Thursday.
“Keep an eye on the admissions to seminaries, keep your eyes open,” the pope was quoted as saying by newspaper La Stampa’s Vatican Insider service. “If in doubt, better not let them enter.”
The Vatican did not immediately respond to a request for a comment on the remarks, which Vatican Insider and Il Messaggero said were made at a closed-door gathering on Monday.
Francis’s meeting with Italian bishops came just a day after a Chilean man who suffered clerical sexual abuse quoted the pope as telling him in a private conversation that God had made him gay and loved him that way.
The Vatican declined to comment on the report which touched off fierce media speculation that Francis was softening the Church stance on homosexuality. It has previously condemned homosexuality as an immoral disorder if actively practised.
In a 2005 document, released under Francis’s predecessor Pope Benedict, the Vatican said the Church could admit into the priesthood those who had clearly overcome homosexual tendencies for at least three years.
But it said practicing homosexuals and those with “deep-seated” gay tendencies and those who support a gay culture should be barred.
The reported comments to the bishops might appease conservatives who have grown alarmed at the way Francis has dramatically shifted the language the Church has used about homosexuality since his election in 2013.
“If a person is gay and seeks God and has good will, who am I to judge?” the pope said on his first overseas trip in 2013. In 2016, he said he had ministered to people with unfulfilled homosexual tendencies as well as homosexuals who were not able to remain chaste, as the Church asks them to.
“When a person arrives before Jesus, Jesus certainly will not say: ‘Go away because you are homosexual’,” he said.
Pope Benedict wrote in 2005 that homosexuality was “a strong tendency ordered toward an intrinsic moral evil”.

No that’s Gates’ latest attention seeking episode in the parish – look at me me me. It was a version of ready steady cook. He’s also playing a star role in a parish play in April. He can’t go and visit his parishioners but has time to fool around.

I wonder if the CoI guy attended? One would be best advised to avoid this self obsessed individual with small man syndrome. He is a puffed up little twat who should be nowhere near the priesthood. He uses the parish like his own fiefdom and has a sneering disregard for the ordinary people of the parish.
His boss in Armagh appears to too frightened to deal with this obnoxious individual and the many others like him, but the RC’s code of Omerta will gradually be unravelled.

I would like to applaud the Archdiocese for Paderborn for admitting frankly what few ever known, that gay men are attracted to priesthood and the religious life. Up to now we have all been treated as idiots – though willingly – in the mass delusion that every seminarian has given up a weeping girlfriend in order to accomplish his sacred mission. However, it’s all over, and the exodus from the Church in the West demonstrates that we neither want, need nor require priests any longer. Thank Heavens, most of us at any rate are finally growing up as Vatican II called us to do. Perhaps we should get used to the idea that the Council was not a failure but a resounding success. How many souls have been liberated from ecclesiastical tyranny? Ireland is not a tragedy but a shining example. Anybody really want to go back to the days of John Charles McQuaid peering through underwear catalogues with a magnifying glass? As for Father Jones and his consecrated hands – let me out of here!

We don’t need to be parented. My doctor is not a Catholic but loves Thomas Merton. A local centre does mindfulness and meditation. I have a friend who never goes near a church who loves Thomas A Kempis and Brother Lawrence. Times have changed. We no longer seek permission from Rome.

Any chance of some serious discussion today? I think Pat’s choice of subject throws up some big questions, which could be related to comments earlier from Retired Father D of Archdiocese of St Andrews and Edinburgh about his Roman trained biretta-wearing local parish priest. Leaving the gay stuff aside if possible for one moment, let’s consider the type now getting himself ordained. I say type rather than types as they do seem to be depressingly predictable. I have just glanced at the website of the English Dominicans, who seem a world away from the radical lefties I used to encounter. They are now very conscious of their priestly status, heavily into the Old Mass, and aligned with all kinds of clap-trap – I noticed something about Confraternity of Angelical Warriors, whatever the hell that is. There is a chubby new guy who seems to flit between Washington, London and Oxford – and you think Pat’s little road trip is pushing the boat out – Father Lawrence Lew who wears with his Dominican habit a biretta trimmed with scarlet with scarlet pom-pom ( no doubt there is a “correct” name for those who like that kind of thing ). Anybody got anything on him? What you see is the clergy living in their own unreality.

I share your concerns. I visited one of our seminaries in Oscott last year and was surprised by the dress code of the Deacons and Priests. The garb was more akin to a Kylie Minogue concert. Nearly everyone was into the fiddle backs and birettas. Fr D would never say, but he is glad he is out of it. Gem of a man.

Magna darling, I don’t think we remember a single religious priest (with a hooded habit) before the council wearing a biretta, do we? – and it looks so odd with the hood of the holy habit. That said, mummy has just found several pictures online of Dominicans wearing all sorts of odd birettas, even white ones. What on Earth is going on, darling?

I think the white birettas belong to the Norbertines, which are indeed a very odd set up. In England they operate out of Chelmsford, so various of the usual types turn up at the usual places such as the Birmingham, Brompton and Oxford Oratories, Farnborough Abbey ( now, what goes on there, I wonder ) and those parishes in the North which have been handed over to various Tridentine Mass providers. I hardly need remind anybody that in Ireland, the Norbertines have far more sinister associations. What a crew!

And what business is it of his, (or, for that matter, of yours) who he is living with? As long as neither is being abused ought we not to be encouraging people to love one another. Celibacy, priesthood, same-sex attraction are all with us for a long time and also evolving inevitably in one direction.

Why shouldn’t they accept gay students. It’s about people being appropriate not celibate. If celibacy is so important why has it been flaunted from popies down down through the centuries. Yes arrived at 6 after 7 hour drive. Eating in Tralee Bella Bia Italian restaurant. Very high quality. Pre theatre menu only Euro 15! Of course added bottle of Italian wine and two Cafe Royales for my priest friend and me.
