ARCHBISHOP REFUSES TO ACCEPT GUILT AFTER POPE ACCEPTS HIS GUILT.

I believe that the facts and evidence presented demonstrated my total innocence’

Emeritus Archbishop Anthony Apuron of Agaña said Thursday that despite the failure of his appeal and the confirmation of a conviction against him, he is innocent of sexual abuse against minors.
“I am deeply saddened by the decision of the Holy Father to confirm the decision of the court of first instance,” Apuron said in an April 4 statement on the announcement of his sentencing.
“I believe that the fact and evidence presented demonstrated my total innocence,” he said, noting that he had expected his appeal to be successful.
The Apostolic Tribunal of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith found Apuron, 73, guilty of some of several abuse-related charges in March 2018. He immediately appealed the decision. The Vatican court upheld the original decision on February 7, and the final sentencing was announced on April 4 by the CDF.
Apuron was sentenced to privation of the office of Archbishop of Agaña; forbidden from using the insignia attached to the rank of bishop, such as the mitre and ring; and forbidden from living within the jurisdiction of the archdiocese.
He was not removed from ministry or from the clerical state, nor has he been assigned to live in prayer and penance.
Speaking to CNA last year, a source close to the case noted a contradiction between the penalty and the sentence of sexual abuse against minors – a grave delict which usually carries the penalty of removal from the clerical state.
Apuron called the sentence, which prevents him from living in Guam, a penalty “analogous to a death sentence,” adding: “I lose my homeland, my family, my church, my people, even my language, and I remain alone in complete humiliation, old and in failing health.”
Pope Francis personally oversaw the archbishop’s appeal. Apuron wrote that the pope’s decision concludes his own “search for justice in the canonical forum.”
“I owe His Holiness my obedience as a bishop, priest and son of the Church. I totally submit to the judgment of the Holy Father as I thank him for allowing me to continue serving as a priest and archbishop without insignia,” he stated.
“Child sexual abuse is an abhorrent crime that cries to heaven for vengeance. The desperate need for justice and compassion for the survivors is fundamental,” he said. “So too is the urgent need to fight this evil always and everywhere through a transparent and courageous search for the truth.”
According to the archbishop, the pontifical secret prevents him from “litigating my good name in public,” but “many individuals” have come forward privately and publicly in his defense “despite threats and the climate of fear in my beloved home of Guam.”
The archbishop claimed that this climate of fear and its publicity in the local media hampered the work of the Vatican court in its conviction and “testifies to the presence of a pressure group that plotted to destroy me, and which has made itself clearly known even to authorities in Rome.”
He also said there are people who have revealed to him they were asked to make false allegations against him in return for money.
Apuron said, despite this, he still hopes to one day clear his name through new witnesses, and that he is praying for his accusers and those who have worked against him. He said: “We will each meet before that final tribunal where the full truth will be laid bare before the Supreme Judge.”
“I offer this suffering for the Holy Father,” he stated. “May the Lord guide him at this difficult time at the helm of the Church; I offer my suffering to my accusers and to those who have plotted for my removal: may the Lord fill them with everything they want and pray – Father, forgive them for they do not know what they do.”

PAT SAYS

This man has been found guilty.

He has not been able to refute the evidence against him

He has been found guilty of abusing minors.

He should have been dismissed from the clerical state by Francis. But Francis is totally inconsistent on these matters.

That’s why we have to work more and more for all these to be dealt with by the civil authorities.

The RC CHURCH has proven time after time that they are not capable of the administration of justice.

Can someone please explain in simple terms what the “pontifical secret ” referred to here means?

In relation to blog of couple of days ago, I note another 5 staff have left the NHS Gender Identity and Development Service based in London and Leeds over serious concerns over children, some as young as 3 years old, being pressurised down a path of gender change.

MMM, I would compare the Pontifical Secrecy to the Official Secrets Act. Pontifical secrecy is used in governance of the Church, while the Official Secrets Act is used in the government of the nation.

Many/ most already are dealt with by the civil courts. And guess what? Many predators, for one reason or another, get off absolutely Scott free. The legal system is far from “victim friendly”. Ever hear the expression “the Law is an ass”?
And that being said, I wouldn’t fancy seeing the type of justice you would concoct, Fr Buckley.

experiencing the kind of justice the Vatican has been handing out to the targets for the crimes of its priests – exactly the episcopal equivalent of what happened in yesterday’s blog.

So what if he can’t use the insignia of an archbishop. Big bloody deal. He is a convicted abuser and should have been dismissed from the clerical state. Another example of the Vatican speaking with forked tongues. What happened to them taking robust action against abusers? Disgusting. The abuser says he’s in I’ll health and whilst I wouldn’t wish that on anyone, what about the mental health of those he abused? Yet again the Vatican has let down victims. It’s becoming so repetitive that their response to abuse can almost be guaranteed. All abusive clerics should be dismissed regardless of their rank

‘An excellent priest,’ what does it take to be considered an excellent priest or a good priest?

Like

12.55: So what if Fr. Gavin is a professionally trained Canon Lawyer? Pat, why such a disparaging question? Fr. Gavin is a very capable person and hopefully, with God’s blessings, will act in good faith with kindness, compassion and care. I wish him well, which is the least you could do Pat!! Your cryptic remark shows you to be smug and arrogant. Thankfully Fr. Fintan can look to others for support, prayers and encouragement.

You sound ever so Christlike. I suppose you’re also considered an excellent priest.
In the context of widespread moral and criminal corruption in the Rcc, I think it legitimate to query what’s considered excellent and good when it comes to priests in the contemporary Rcc.
God bless.

Diarmuid Martin is in his final year of office before statutory retirement age. Who will replace him is the big question. I reckon Breandán Leahy is odds on favourite at the moment. At least one would-be candidate has a gambling history. 😂

A name was mentioned on this blog some while back about a possible replacement for Diarmuid Martin..
I’ve had dealings with this individual about a matter. I was lied to and misrepresented by him in correspondence. Nobody is going to shut me up as to what evil was done to me in the service of protecting evil clergy.
Not even the Pope. I’ve told this individual as much. I’m sick of church hypocrisy. The hypocrisy is incredible from
men who supposedly claim to be professional christians. They don’t give a toss.

Not sure but that was a popular cruising spot – the underground public toilets was popular with some clergy. He did require medical treatment if it was he same incident I know of – years ago. Glad he is ok. Was he involved there? Nice man and openly gay. Should not bar him.

Some of these clerical abusers are the lowest of the low. Having raped children and abused vulnerable people
they then use there positions of power or the protection of their Bishops to avoid responsibility and the consequences of their crimes. They can live a life of prayer and penance in prison.

Please be assured, the Holy Father would never insult Bishop-elect Bartlett with a pissy little diocese like Cork and Ross.

A great big pretty diocese is earmarked for a Churchman of his prestige and abilities. It should become vacant around the year 2080.

Thank you so much, Your Excellency!
Your servants in the Irish Church were becoming perturbed, that such an able and ever so humble a servant, of the Holy See, was in danger of being, as it were, “left on the shelf” – of being “always a bridesmaid but never a bride”.
We are so greatly calmed in spirit after your most welcome intervention and reassurance.
Phew! 😅
Now we shall return to tranquility of soul, as we anticipate, with immense joy, the dawning of the Year of Our Lord 2080.
The 60 odd years will fly in, so they will. Sure won’t it be Christmas again before we know it?
As my sainted old grandmother used to say: “where, o where, does the time go?”
Yours devotedly,
Relieved.

3.18: I have no doubt about Father Gavin’s pedigree as an exvellent priest. In our Diocese he has shown his abilities, been very conscientious and very capable of holding serious responsibilities of leadership. God bless him. With cynics like you, he needs our prayers.

What’s cynical about asking what’s considered an excellent or good priest? I’m not looking for faults but we don’t need more of the same incompetent leadership in the Rcc. Get off your defensive high horse. You’re very easily threatened. Why?

Like

5.09: I’m not at all threatened by cynics like you. Fr. Gavin is an EXCELLENT priest. I know it doesn’t suit you to hear such a thing but you are nuts. Do you know Fr. Gavin? I do. I know Fintan Gavin also and I wouldn’t call him an excellent priest. Methodical enough in processing abuse issues, he was well able to turn a blind eye when the abuse came a little close to his bishop and his own desire for promotion. But considering what we are used to these days, Gavin is probably as good as we are likely to get. Perhaps he will find a little more courage in his new role.

Still at it!
Bear with me.
This is a blog exposing corruption, abuse and criminality in the Catholic Church in Ireland and Internationally.
At 3:18, I asked a question; what does it take to be considered a good or excellent priest, in the context of Mr. Gavins appointment. I presented the cleric who replied, and his colleagues, an opportunity to tell the posters and readers of this blog, what characteristics, attributes and skills are required of a dedicated good or excellent priest in the contemporary church. Instead, I was abused and told by the cleric, on the bases of one question, that I was a dope, an idiot, a cynic, a nut, looking for faults, told to get ‘over it’. Now the heavy gang are telling me,I’m a fool needing educating, that I’m a silly, bitter old lemon. The cleric who abused me needs to deal with repressed emotions, needs to acquire the capacity of involved detachment if working with people, needs to maintain boundaries, stop projecting and attributing what’s in his imagination onto others, own his own projections and deal with bullying and most likely control issues. I don’t earn my livelihood as a professional catholic Christian, nor do I have the responsibility of being at the service of the catholic community, nor have I being ontologically changed. However, from a faith perspective, the abusive cleric would do well to pray this evenings divine office, in particular Psalm15, model his life on gospel values, particularly charity, and prefer nothing to Christ as recommend by St. Benedict. i don’t know Mr. Gavin, but I wish Mr. Gavin well in his future ministry . However, I couldn’t careless whose appointed to what, where or when in the Irish church. In fact, if history was made in Ireland, the church and world following the next papal conclave, and an Irish siamese clerical twin, named Larry and Mo was elected pope, I couldn’t careless! For all their education, it hasn’t prevented moral and criminal institutional church clerical and hierarchical malfeasance.
No wonder there’s so much abuse, crime and criminality in the Rcc.
