THE GAY SAUNA WHERE MANY OF IRELAND’S GAY PRIESTS AND SEMINARIANS MEET TO “PLAY”.

The Boiler House Dublin

Most Irish people know very little about gay saunas.

But they are getting to know that a sizeable number of priests and seminarians attend gay saunas at home and abroad..

The Boiler House was at the centre of the Maynooth gay scandal a couple of years ago as Maynooth seminarians went there to meet priests and other men.

DUBLIN PRIEST DIES IN GAY SAUNA – TWO OTHER PRIESTS THERE HELPED HIM.

In 1994, Fr Liam Cosgrave (68), a curate from Baldoyle, died in a gay sauna.

Fr Cosgrave was given the last rites by two other Catholic priests who were in the club at the time and rushed out of their cubical on hearing his cries for help.

The owner of the Incognito sauna said at the time that up to 20 priests were regular patrons.

THE CUBICLES AND SHOWER IN THE BOILER HOUSE

PAT SAYS

I’m sure there are times in The Boiler House when there are enough priests present to hold a Chrism Mass.

If 20 priests were patrons in the less liberal 90s just how many go there a week now – 50? 100? 200? 300?

And that is not to mention the seminarians.

Sems get complimentary admission and are taken to the roped off VIP area. They just need to show their Maynooth ID. And no, this is not a joke.

A travel gay review described the Boiler House as a “Nice cruising spot.” For example: “I have visited this sauna several times and found it very suited to my needs. I normally go weekends so there are usually a good few guys in with a good age range from the early 20’s up to pensioners (in slings). A lot of hot Asians go there I think and are very sexy, especially the shaved dads. The cafe part is fine, but the steam room can be a bit too cold at times.“

The true shame is that the church forces a repressed society, causing priests to go to such saunas rather than entering into actual safe sexual relationships.

Like

When I was a sem, most of us used to go to saunas and toilets and have lots of sex, often with each other up until the point of celibacy promises. It was enjoyable.

Like

Rapid HIV testing is available at the Boiler House every Saturday from 4 pm to 6 pm.
But most punters will be taking a once-daily PreP pill. It’s free on prescription in Scotland, so at least the priests speaking with a Scottish accent in the Boiler House will be a safe hump.

Like

Magna Carta what draws them to the Priesthood or Religious Life suppose to be this “Call”.

But as we are seeing it is to hide their sexuality in most cases.

Great pic of the two guys coming out of the sauna wearing a towel. Beautiful bodies……masculine and chunky. Yes please!

Bishop Pat. I’m informed that you pray Holy Mass using the Roman Missal. Does this mean that you really are still Roman Catholic? Presuming you just miss the praying for the Pope bit out? If you are using this Missal, isn’t this double standards?

Like

Once a Catholic always a Catholic.
He can use what he wants even the catholic Church hymnals as we don not mind .
The SSPX even use the Roman Missal (1962) and pray for Pope Francis and likely wishing him dead.

I laughed out loud watching the video – the guy is an excellent raconteur – and then felt somewhat shame-faced about the poor old bugger would couldn’t wait to be excused. I was waiting for the punch line that he was actually a VF rather than merely a BF. Nice to see it has an inclusive policy, and the guy and his friend who worked there were kind and compassionate. However, personally I’d rather the clergy didn’t frequent such places. If young male flesh is what they are after, better to stick to Hollyoaks.

Those Maynooth abusers who groomed and had sex with the younger seminarians in the Boiler hse Sauna must be exposed.

Like

There has been no complaint about the boiler House and Young Seminarians so I take it they enjoyed themselves.
Although Clergy and Seminarians should not be in such places.
I was shocked earlier when I read they can have sex at the Seminary till they take the vow of celibacy and that is when some will find it difficult because I here Oscott is a hot bed but only used by Motherwell Diocese so no wonder Courage is there in that diocese.

Like

Grooming? In a gay sauna?? I don’t think people who go there need any kind of priming. There’s hardly any talking nevermind grooming.

Fr Terry Allen I presume? Definitely straight and has had numerous children since I believe. Good for him!

Although we can write a book now about ever dioceses in Scotland sadly that is the case.
However Thankfully Archbishop Cushley seems to lead with his leadership and takes swift action over every matter and for the rest they need to have a look at themselves.
A recent Communications Director with loads of responsibility in the Archdiocese of Edinburgh 40K in Glasgow you would be shocked at the salaries in Clyde Street.
As for catholic Truth she refers to Father John Breslin doing supply just show how Catholic rag has it all wrong and I make it clear John Breslin from the 80’s should have been asked to leave by +Devine but was not yet father miller has for 8 years innocently been suspended.
As for John Breslin he has been in Nazareth House for about 10 years and was retired off for many years before that in a flat in the west end of Glasgow.
John Breslin was Scotland’s Quest and LGBTI spokesman before this Courage.

Fr Frank Duhig, the much respected, tough Junior Dean of Maynooth in the 1980s despatched with in a couple of hours a Kilmore seminarian whom the Guards had caught cottaging in the village loos. An ordinary person would have been arrested and charged with gross indecency but the Guards thought it should be dealt with in-house and phoned the Junior Dean, who was merciless in his response. Frank Duhig was the most sane Dean, with Tom Clancy and Niall Ahern being mad in different, sometimes overlapping ways.

Frank Duhig would not have allowed the progress of the likes of Rory Coyle, Brendan Marshall, Gorgeous, King Puck, Derwin and the Trolley Dolly.

But as we know, alas, the ones who are strict, or protest too much (e.g., KOB) turn out to the worst offenders.

Like

Not in Frank Duhig’s case. He was a smoking, gambling, rugby coach, directly speaking priest of the old school. What you saw was what you got and he taught me in my lay life always to be honest and straight forward in whatever you do.

Like

Definitely not the case with Frank Duhig. In fact he made a special point of expelling quickly a Scots Robbie Coltrane lookalike (in Maynooth via Osterly Park) who had disgracefully put posters in the Long Corridor toilets posters advocating gay sex.

Safe sex posters. He knew what whores Maynooth seminarians are… even to this day. Thank God, for PreP.

12:13. Are the sacraments free? Perhaps someone could relay that to Eugenia O’Neill in st Patrick’s who charges £250 for people outside the parish to get wed yet he receives a salary/stipend from Down and connor diocese. Maybe someone could also tell +Treanor to get close to his flock. He’d quiver at the thought of mixing with the hoi polloi

Like

The Sacraments are Free and even Marriage annulments and that has been made very clear by Pope francis.
However people are allowed to give a donation to the parish after all the parish has overheads to pay and sadly some people only come for three visits Baptisms, Marriage and Funerals.
There is very mixed views about Bishop Treanor and I personally have seen him online and will tonight a 5pm however that is my view and any time I have contacted him I have had a reply.
Strange one today by Bishop Treanor moving the clergy around for one day it is the PP of St John’s that’s in the Cathedral.

As a gay man I’d rather throw myself in the Lagan before going to such places. Same with the gay bars. I went a few times to Union Street and it was all hen parties, drag (which I hate – if I wanted to look at a woman I wouldn’t be gay) and twinks being bought drinks by fat old men.

Like

I too find gay pubs off-putting. It’s all so superficial. Sex needs to come hand in hand with human intimacy.

Like

I agree Pat. Straight places are just as promiscuous. I know plenty of young straight people who have one night stands every weekend and I think that’s dangerous in lots of ways and not good for long term emotional wellbeing.

Like

What a moan you are sometimes, Bp Pat. You don’t like gay bars, you don’t like Grindr, you don’t like cottaging, you don’t like cruisin, and you’ve never been to a gay sauna.
Are dirty cinemas your thing? I wonder.

Like

Dirty cinemas would do nothing for me. Ideally sex should happen in a situation of human intimacy and caring. Maybe I am old fashioned?

Once you get away from the tittle tattle and gossip of clergy going to saunas and having anonymous sex, you must start to think of the more substantial issue, which is why these clergy are doing this ? The only reason is because they find themselves in a psycho-sexual arrested development phase which means that they have not learned how to have meaningful and nurturing relationships, be they straight or gay. Add on to that a system of education and formation in seminary that will have been woefully lacking in the human development area, and it is no wonder that they guys are acting out so sadly as they are.
We want to have healthy, balanced, mature, emotionally sane and integrated priests. The current system does not produce that. So, and yes, I know you have heard it all before, we have to look carefully at what will produce these priests. And a priesthood that is able to embrace the whole range of humanity will be the best – so, celibate priests for those who have that calling and charism, married priests, mature priests, priests with families, priests with jobs, women priests, gay priests, straight priests, alternative lifestyle priests. And, it goes without saying, that they all need to be holy and prayerful priests. Surely that will be much more healthy and balanced than a bunch of immature, badly formed, lacking in psychological maturity, and sexually imbalanced priests, such as we have now going to saunas and cruising places for a quick anonymous, and ultimately soul destroying, sex ?
Would you recommend a young man to think seriously about the priesthood given the way we train and form our priests these days, and ultimately consign them to a sad, pathetic, unhealthy, unhappy and lonely way of life ? I wouldn’t !

Like

They, in the overwhelming majority of cases, were ‘recruited’ too young.

No one under thirty should be ordained.

And no one under 25 should be admitted to seminary.

Mick are you for real as your information is well wrong in parts yes he is hugely clever and that’s to the Catholic Education system and he did NOT inform bishop Keenan as it was Bishop Keenen sent for him as the Good Laity informed Bishop Keenan.
Asking for a sabbatical that maybe true but he was in a GAY relationship and celebrating Holy Mass and it is wrong in the teachings and bishop Pat knows that as well and likely part of the reason he left.
Mick every time something goes to Rome it costs money to the diocese and it is not cheap as it has to go through the Scottish tribunal first then to Rome and therefore he should have just resigned .
What kind of message was that to the Church and the boyfriend “oh I will try and see what is better” and pick the best.
The laity of Paisley diocese work extremely hard to clear the huge deficit left by + Philip and they even have a diocesan fundraising team led by a Canon and here we have Bolan who could have said the dioceses thousands by just resigning.
The Good thing is it is a learning curve for Bishop Keenan as it is a first for Paisley diocese so Bishop Keenan will be well placed when he goes to Glasgow how to get the active gays out.
They are hypocrites and how they say Holy Mass amazes me.
They should be like Bishop Pat Honest and Sincere and be able to face his people.
There is many pray for John Bolan and me included but how he continues with this situation shows he is weak.
There is NO way he will ever be a Priest in the diocese of Paisley again.

Roman Catholic priesthood is not a vocation; never was. It’s a pass to self-wastlefulness (witness such sauna activity).
Worse, it’s a pass to waste other people’s lives.
If you want the definition of ‘utter, deceiving uselessness’, just point to any Roman Catholic priest.
Sauna and other activity is only one outcome possible for men who vow to serve such a morally withered institution as the Roman Catholic Church; it has become a byeword for ‘evil’.
How dare anyone say that Christ founded this moral shithole!😠

To be honest, I think gay zones such as Canal St Manchester are so retro – gay Disneyworlds and are taken over by shrieking alternatively drunk and piddling hen parties. Gay bars are closing all over London purely because today’s generation have no issues about being gay and so there is integration. Question is then as posed at 08:43 by Mick why the Church remains so hung up about sex in general and gay relationships in particular. It sure as hell has nothing to do with truthfulness and everything to do with denial. So you get sad old gits conked out in saunas so ignored that it took 2 hours for anyone to notice him – not to mention the old codger who didn’t make it to the bathroom. Dignity, always dignity!

Like

Grindr has finished off the gay bars. By my own assessment I’m a quite hot gay man but when I went to Union St a few years ago lots of hen party women tried to convert me. Never again. I don’t do Grindr either. Human beings are better than than. I’d say the same about straight dating sites.

Like

There is NO self-dignity in being found in one of those places.
I wonder how many posters here prayed for that dead priest’s soul. The merit of prayer can be applied retrospectively, since God is eternal.

Like

An excellent point, MC, about prayer being possible retrospectively because God is eternal. I often pray for loved ones in their hour of need, even though it was decades ago when they suffered.

Are you the gay Irishman living in Scotland who is getting enough sex thanks, and whose literary skills are not the best. If you are, the only predictable element that didn’t appear is your exhortation to write to nuncios and Vatican departments.
It’s a Sunday Mass and collections are part of that from apostolic times. It appears your living in Scotland has brought out the parsimonious in you. To make it sound as if one had to pay for attendance at Mass is malicious. Anyone is free to pass the collection bag on.

Like

For a start I am not gay but correct about Irish and yes living in the west coast of Scotland..

I take it your a lapsed Catholic because compassion and insult is not one of your Christian values to insult people is wrong.

As for literary skills your likely a reject seminarian.

Sunday Mass collections are correct but if you come off the wine the Confirmations were on a Saturday but I have be assured it was for the upkeep of the Church and will not be happening again at Confirmations.

Sadly some parishes are still in the dickens ages and have baskets so people next feel obliged to put into the basket but should it be the bag then you can pass that on.

But who would go to a Sunday Mass without giving a donation I have a Standing order for my parish but if visiting other parishes I would place a donation.

NO Collections at Confirmation or funerals however at Funerals you are allowed a collection box at the back of the church for a charity collection.

I don’t know how many priests are patrons, Bp Pat, but I guess the figure for seminarians would be restricted to the number of gay trainees at Maynooth, which I imagine is all 23.

Pat the Boiler hse Sauna is old news, the real scandal is Sauna Babylonia. The cover story was a seminary soccer trip, however a Canon lawyer escorted two well known homosexual Maynooth seminarians into the Sauna for around two hrs. The Priest in question had it well planned and knew where to go.
