SCOTLAND DAY

xxxxxx

WE PROMISED THE SCOTTISH READERS OF THE BLOG A DAY TO.HAVE THEIR SAY ABOUT THE STATE OF THE CATHOLIC CHURCH IN SCOTLAND.

Today is Scotland Day on the blog.

There is much talk of

1. The incompetence of the Scottish bishops.

2. The widespread promiscuous homosexuality among the proests.

When I receive information in Ireland I have sufficient information and reports to go on to decide the credibility of the claims?

I do not know a great deal about the state of things in Scotland.

So I am asking contributors to talk about situations rather than individuals.

I am also asking people to be careful of names without proof or credible accusations.

So lets begin Scotland Day.

Is that it? So basically Pat, you’re asking others to write your blog so that you can exonerate yourself from any fallout? Pathetic! What a cop out.

Pat, you have not ever exercised carefulness or responsibility about information given to you about issues in any Diocese. You print indiscriminately any piece of information that furthers your vengeful agenda. The Scottish priests who will engage with you against their own are a bunch of traitors, nasty malcontents and disgruntled in their lives as clerics. Like many stories aired on this site, the discerning, intelligent critic will see you yet again for what you are: a nasty, queenie old gossip but a dangerous, divisive one.

The Dioceses of Paisley and Motherwell make a point of promoting the specious organization Courage on their websites. Is this what Christianity is about: denial and suppression of reality? It is under-pinned by the cod-philosophy of JPII’s Theology of the Body – a ragbag of mid-20th C central European notions viz. phenomenology reworked as the Saint’s message to the planet – NOT to be confused with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. I presume the respective Bishops, Keenan and Toal, have their ambitions, possibly focused on the same target of the Archdiocese of Glasgow, so may imagine that this twaddle will earn them preferment, just as Elsie shafted the Soho Masses to secure the somewhat delayed Cardinal’s hat. What in the name of sanity is going on, when the Church is crashing all around us and we make the suppression of gay men and women an article of faith, – even more egregious, given what we know about the clergy? KOB also pushed Courage to counter his natural disgust at men lying with men. At least, as far as I know, no English, Welsh or Irish diocese has made it an article of faith. I look forward to accounts of what is really going on among Scottish Catholics.

You are correct both these Diocese promote Courage on their web site but really NO action or encouragement.
As for their eye on the Archdiocese of Glasgow well it is 2626 that + Philip is 75 and to be honest sadly Bishop Toal will not be a front runner as his eyesight is sadly been failing and cannot drive around his diocese now and even the Holy Mass and written items are on an Ipad for him.
Bishop Keenan is front runner for Glasgow or maybe Bishop Brian McGee.
Scotland is going to be in a position again Glasgow, Dunkeld and Aberdeen will all be vacant around same time.
8 diocese into 5 in 2026

And he was lying with men throughout his entire adult life. What a sick pig he was.

Good morning Bishop Pat from sunny Glesgay. Where do I start? Over the last few years we have had scandal after scandal. There was the case at a murder trial when the now deceased Father admitted that he was regularly seeing prostitutes. This poor man was an alcoholic and welcomed everyone at his door. The then Archbishop knew for years that he needed support and was struggling but did nothing. Then there is the Priest caught by a Parishioner with sex toys on the altar in the hours of darkness who is now a PP. Then the Priest who was arrested and suspended for allegedly having an inappropriate relationship with a vulnerable 17 year old Parishioner (google for full details and note he is still shown as c/o Archdiocese in the Directory 2 years later). We then have the Dean of our Cathedral who recently packed in to live with his girlfriend and now lives with another, and allegedly has a child to a third. Then of course there is the Pipeworks gay Sauna beside the Cathedral that is regularly frequented by Clergy from across Scotland. We also have have the actively gay Priest who sometimes works at HQ who has been openly gay for years and has been in a relationship with another Priest for many years. Lovely and popular man but why not just leave and be happy? Some of the stories about his past behaviour are concerning. There is also a homosexual group who holiday together regularly from Glasgow, Paisley and Motherwell. Over recent months there has been a number of allegations made about a Jesuit Church re historical sex abuse. Then we have the Priest who was being blackmailed by a rent boy (google for full details) who still supplies and finally for now, the Priest who is now retired but who also still supplies who loves twinks – when he speaks to younger guys he enjoys rubbing their chest and tummies. Bizarre! More to follow!

Ah yes, the clergy gay holiday clubs. Quite a feature of clerical life and not just in Scotland. Sometimes, in order to cash in on extra days the freebie goes under the guise of leading a pilgrimage to Lourdes. Let’s focus on Scotland for now, but ever thought of doing a Westminster day?

Like

+ Elsie is losing control of Westminster. Most of the priests can’t stand him. Too arrogant, too ambitious, too cold, too aloof. A significant minority of the Queens, especially the ex-Anglicans who have found a home in Westminster, are fit to knife him after he’s crossed them too many times. It’s probably time for + Nichols to move aside ( shades of Prime Minister May here) and get someone in who is holy, simple, and will love his priests and people. Longley of Birmingham, maybe ?

Like

Big J well Thanks for your detailed script and most of it correct but few errors.
The poor man the Alcoholic well + Conti did everything he could considering the priest said he had NO problem however he was buried by + Conti.
The 17 yo was not vulnerable and Police Scotland investigated and he was cleared of any crime however under canon law + Philip keeps him c/o but maybe he will be back soon due to and appeal at Rome.
The Priest “sometimes” in HQ he is there daily and works very hard however you are correct he leads a double life and sadly everyone knows and he should consider his position totally as the talk is bad again about it all and he is a lovely and caring man.
The holiday crew and some of them are in very HIGH positions and need to be careful.
Sadly most of the bishops turn a blind eye.

Like

Longley is a nice man, but too comfortable with ex Anglicans. Maybe we should concentrate on Scotland and leave Westminster to another day – though a month would be more realistic! A Birmingham day might also be good, as there is plenty to go on there – remember the unresolved business at the Oxford Oratory and their mysterious disappearing Provost and phantom parish priest?

Like

Yes understood. Fr Sweeney is still suspended and I agree that +Mario tried to help the alcoholic Priest but not hard enough. The 17 year old
was vulnerable – why would
any Priest try to or put himself in such a position in the first place? Why would the Archbishop put an openly homosexual into the Curia? Lovely man and must be difficult.

Courage is another phenomenon of the Catholic Church focusing its gaze on the loins, and making pretty much every judgement about every action and person predicated on the loins and genital sex. It is inculcated in to their DNA, through their training and culture.

It’s pretty sick really, if you think about it ! It leads to a mindset that is dysfunctional and self-loading, repeat with denial. It has contributed to the phenomenon of clerical sexual abuse.

After a lifetime living in this culture, although feeling instinctively that it just was not right, and increasingly distancing myself from this sexualized way of viewing the world and people, I have finally given up on it, and feel liberated. Looking back, I recognize how sick was this culture, and why so much of the clerical world is unhappy, frustrated, lonely, angry and dysfunctional. But. the majority of priests and bishops are stuck where they are, and find it difficult to break free and to think more freely. The result is that we are ministered to and led by men who are sick in their outlook, and hobbled in their own human lives. No wonder the Church is in such a mess.

Yesterday, one contributor commented on how seminaries perpetuate a form of clericalism, and that the prospect of a new leadership and ministry is pretty unlikely. From my experience, I agree, and I don’t see any green shoots of hope for the future. The clerical culture has an interest in perpetuating itself.

For myself, it is so joyful and liberating to be able to move away from such things, and to establish other ways of viewing the world and people. I pity those who are stuck in the culture I have described. It is a recipe for frustration and dysfunction.

A wonderful honest and heartfelt posting at 08:40 mercifully free from the toxic rants that discredit so many “contributions”. Indeed it is ironic is it not that the Church makes such a big deal that we are NOT defined by our sexuality, yet teaches that our eternal salvation is determined by say a single act of masturbation or a “gay lifestyle “? John Keenan posts about receiving “a lovely card” from Courage: if this truly is his notion of ministry rather than a convenient pretence, he is frankly unfit having sacrificed his own integrity – intellectual, moral and spiritual.

Pat, hows that wee Scottie couple you attacked one night in the Europa Hotel, you and your cigar-puffing, drunken mates and you off your own tits on brandy?
They took a picture of you and you had the mad stare in your eyes of a man totally out of his tree.
You were celebrating your Silver Jube Jube and it all got rather raucous for the poor wee Scottie couple whom you called “bastards” because they asked you and the revellers with you to calm down.
It was in the papers at the time and it was a freaking hilarious read! And the picture of you was priceless! 🤣

It was not my silver jubilee. I celebrated that in Dublin. I was in tge Europa for a meal with a friend and afterwarda sat in THE SMOKING AREA. I dont smoke but my friend was having a cigar. They cane inyo THE SMOKING AREA and complained about my friend. I never called them bastards. I told him to bring his parents to Larne one day and I would marry them.

Today NLM has an interesting report on a recent event at a quondam Scottish cathedral sponsored by the Confraternity of S. Ninian. A Trent style mass in Latin was celebrated within its fascinating ruins.

Evidently a major goal of the Confraternity is the return of Scotland to the Roman faith which made me wonder about the condition of Presbyterianism there. Is there that much dissatisfaction by the Presbyterians with their religion that they’d return to Roman jurisdiction? Or, is this a pipe dream?

This is a special niche hobby, and, I should say, fairly harmless. There is an undoubted attraction of old ruins, Latin and romanticism – possibly combined with stronger drink such as Jacobitism and the king over the water. But a model for the future? I really don’t think so, do you? In fact hopelessness is part of the draw: lost causes, and a faithful remnant – the smaller the better. Anybody have anything on the Transalpine Redemptorists, by the way? Am I right in thinking there are now two groups, one attached to the SSPX and the other reconciled but still doing their own stuff? Actually, this is specialized interest stuff. I too am disappointed we haven’t had more on the true nature of things in Scotland. Perhaps all is well after all?

It’s more than a day! The Church in England is a total empty shell and each Bishop is identical to the next, Egan has tried to maintain his integrity but he’s an exception, don’t let the odd occasion of wearing Roman vestments fool anyone into thinking there is any love of tradition in the Bishops Conference , they are desperate to off load the schools and close the churches

I suppose these niche hobbyists add some color to the Vatican II church, but the only way they’ll effect change is by having someone at court as they had with Pope Ratzinger. I remember when I had to watch Cadfael to hear scraps of liturgical Latin. Now, due to him, things have changed although I personally wish that he had emphasized the new rites which offer considerably more Latin than the Trentish Rite.
Yes, I’ve read that a few of the Transalpini went over to the SSPX but I can’t find that that they’ve retained a separate corporate identity with them.

SLOW COMMENTS PUBLISHING
Im sorry for the slow publication of comments.
Had a funeral Mass and meal today.

6.02: Presiding at a funeral does not explain that by now, third time, you’ve only elicited 28 comments, some by repeat commentators. Could it be that the topic is quite simply – boring and tiresome. Utterly empty and shallow, with the usual Diocesan gossips and malcontents on display.

I did not find it boring? My funeral was at 12 and I spent from 2 to 6 with the bereaved family. I felt it would have been hurtful to them if I kept checking my phone. And I voted in the Euro elections.

It was interesting reading about Scotch whores, Bp Pat, but I think the Angelica Kluke tragedy and, of course, the KOB scandal has taken its toll on the Catholic Church in Scotland.

Like

In all seriousness I think you should publish a representative sample of abusive comments. It doesn’t really matter whether the authors are clerics: it would be to show how faithful Catholics feel free to behave. If the uncensored comments are anything to go by, it would be another great opportunity to expose the real underbelly of Holy Mother Church.
Today you have invited comments about Scotland and you have recently said that you yourself don’t know much about the state of the church there. If you haven’t had direct complaints people can’t reasonably expect to be able to write a blog about it. But they do… because everything you do is going to be wrong for some people.
