It is suppose to be a mixture who recommends the New Bishop or Archbishops that being current Bishops, Clergy and the Laity write / email the Papal Nuncio who sends three names to a panel in Rome Headed by Cardinal Marc Ouelett who then recommends one or refuses them all.
What did happen with an Auxiliary was the recommendation of the Archbishop was taking so who knows what happened in Armagh a total outsider.
It will be very interesting to see what happens in Dublin and Southwark

If this is who I think it is, this Westminster Curate has indeed been told to keep away from Lourdes this year by his VG. Presumably the VG was acting on Elsie’s behalf. Interestingly the Curate has Scottish origins so it may make sense about the Motherwell/Westminster connection with the meadow incident.

Maybe D Martin needs to stand up to Pat Buckley. Maybe he needs to stop letting him make decisions for him. Maybe he needs to stop believing all the BS. Maybe he needs to retire so that Dublin can get a bishop who is faithfilled and who can make decisions. Maybe he could be a pastor and a shepherd before being politician.

Seminaries have had their day. They are not up to the task of forming the priests that we need for the future. I mean, why do we close away young men for 5 years in old Neo-Gothic buildings built for another time, isolated from the rest of humanity, living a very strange life in which meals and all practical stuff is provided, away from the opposite sex, living in splendid isolation either gin soaked or monastic depending on preference, and learning about stuff that is somewhat irrelevant to the pastoral lives that they will be expected to lead, such as lots of history and dogma ? It’s a system that is not fit for purpose, and does not provide the formation that is required. Everybody knows this. But, nobody seems to be able to grasp the nettle and come up with other better ways of formation. In part I suspect it is because diocese are lumbered with building and staff that they can’t think of other ways to use, so they just keep on with more of the same.
In most seminaries there are two realities going on. Firstly, what you see on the surface, with the students and staff being very earnest and behaving themselves, getting up for morning prayer, mouthing all the relevant things about having a pastoral heart and mission, and having a close personal relationship with the Lord in prayer. Then there is what happens when no one is watching. Lots of drinking, cavorting, misbehaving, gossip, casual sex and generally doing what young men usually do. And that mismatch and duplicity is then taken on in to their lives as priests. No wonder the priesthood is dysfunctional.

Bishop Pat that is insulting you start with older in your statement sadly there is very few clergy under 40 and likely not have that Priests personality.
The new bred coming out of the seminaries like to dress up just look at Saint Patricks Armagh and the holy Mass and when he comes out with his advertising board (Vestment) on I go to another Church tv Service.
Finally the dancing Priest in his vestment yes vestment a bit of cloth thankfully the Church has moved away from that old style and those children will never forget that Priest and the JOY and LOVE

Totally cringeworthy looking at that so called ‘cool priest’. We have really lost the plot if we are reducing First Holy Communion to this! Most of our young people,as well as their parents, are completely ignorant of the Faith. As a Church we have failed to pass on even the most basic and fundamental aspects of the Catholic Faith. Too many of the clergy feel that they must dumb down in order to be relevant in today’s world. Our so called Catholic school system is staffed by teachers, many of whom are not church goers and we expect the children to be taught the Faith. It is time for bishops and priests to seriously tackle the problem before we rush head long into a society which pays mere lip service to God.

Inspector Taggart well I do not get the point and I really had hope that you knew what you were doing.
Why did you send it to the Clergy as they will have the story all sorted.
When if you had copied it to the Clergy then the Bishop could take action but now it will be difficult for the Bishop.
The only hope here now is if the Papal Nuncio asks for a report and lets hope he does.
If the Bishops had received this information then they must suspend the clergy pending investigation.
