NICHOL’S EVIDENCE BEFORE THE INDEPENDENT INQUIRY CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE / LETS HAVE THAT WESTMINSTER DAY.

PAT SAYS,

I think its important that blog readers see this quizzing of Nichols by experienced lawyers.

You can see that he is hugely out of his comfort zone.

He is not in The Vatican now or being petted by adoring canon lawyers.

He is flushed, tense, under pressure and struggling to retain his composure.

The first time he was ordered to appear he threw a sickie.

This is the kind of scrutiny that these boyos need constantly.

WESTMINSTER DAY

Readers have been askng for a Westmindter Day on the blog.

As we are dealine With Elsie Nichols today lets make it WESTMINSTER DAY on the blog.

Come on, lets have the biz on Westminster – Nichols, Monty, Daley, the Anglican turnovers etc.

Probably not, though pretty harmless compared to most of them. What happened to that nice chumship he had in Parson’s Green?

Erm…Yeah, I don’t actually see that. I see a man well versed in his responses, respectful and human. The lady was also very gracious, kind and considerate. It was a very good interaction between them both. No doubt appearing in ‘court’ can be daunting, as perhaps some here on the blog can attest to. However, the cardinal was very composed and thorough in his responses. no winners here.

He’s a total agnostic and totally transparent, the pretend illness to get out of his appointment with the investigation was perhaps his lowest point in his carefully crafted career.I had several meetings with him at one time and the way he tries to ‘ handle’ people socially is embarrassing. I have never heard or read anything from him that sounds remotely spiritual, it’s the same old tired banalities. At least with the current crop of bishops in England there is never any personal disappointment about their mistakes or arrogance because there isn’t any warmth to begin with just look at Mark Davies

I thought Mark Davies would be a cold fish until I met him in Lourdes. There was a group of pilgrims with special needs. One asked if they could meet him as they hadn’t been well enough to go to the torchlight procession. He obliged and came to speak with them and then spent about 40 minutes talking with the rest of the group. He was very warm, made those pilgrims day and to top it all off they weren’t even from his diocese. So be fair when it’s due.

I am a resident in Birmingham archdiocese and thought I was aware of the archdiocese’s failings but that is shocking even to me. And it is the failings by so called safeguarding people which are worst, including blaming families and failing to recognize grooming for what it is. Of course sexual abuse is presented as all pink and fluffy to the target, so that the perp has a get out clause. I am very glad that Jones has resigned.
I have no sympathy for Nichols himself, having heard how he treated some people up here.

Thanks for this, looking forward to watching later on.
Does anyone know how many ordained priests still live in Maynooth college, seminary/NUIM staff and others? Walking in the grounds over the weekend and it seems like a lot of space for a few people.

An ignorant comment in ever sense. Someone corrected your spelling of a six-letter word some days ago and now you have come up with another way to misspell it.

Cradle Catholic Priests here in Westminster are sick, sore and tired of the amount of Ex Anglicans Vinny has running the diocese. Two run the Seminary, one runs the Cathedral, one used to be Vocations Director, many have elevated positions in Curia positions and who are Deans. Even the Lourdes pilgrimage is organised by some of them. The C of E were only too glad to get rid of these individuals, mostly single men and now they effectively run Westminster.

Like

If they’re effectively running Westminster does that mean they’re hard workers? Sounds as if you’re suffering from sour grapes. Do you feel passed over?

Like

@1.39pm Who says they are running it effectively? Who says they are hard working? Is that your only contribution? Here in Birmingham we have married ex Anglicans running parishes. In their congregations there are married ex Priests who had to leave the ministry because they wanted to get married – how do you think they feel watching Vicars walk in with their wives and children to run parishes they themselves had to leave? Total double standards.

What’s the difference between a cradle Catholic and someone who has entered into full communion from another Christian church? Aren’t all Catholics! Read the parable of the workers in the vineyard and allow it to change your partisan perspective.

I agree entirely about the pernicious influence of ex Anglicans in the Catholic priesthood. I am surprised Vinnie has promoted so many as I should imagine he regards most of them with contempt, so can only infer he is scraping the barrel when it comes to native clergy. The Anglicans tend to be educated and relatively polished, so suit places such as the Cathedral and Spanish Place. Their misogyny and “apparent” homophobia are intolerable, as is their disloyalty to the wider Church. These characters do exactly what they did in the C of E. They brought with them not only a fat pension fund but an inbred culture memorably described by the late Kenneth Leech as “gin, lace and back-biting”. They all know each other, holiday together, shop at Peter Jones – or rather open a parish account there to improve the presbytery – dine at Rules in Covent Garden, whilst pontificating on gays and contraception – issues which never used to bother them, but which they now see as outward expressions of conservative orthodoxy like wearing lace and a biretta. The former Dean of Belfast would have been in his element amongst them, had it not been for a trail of unfortunate incidents. Though at one time I could have sung like a canary, I am a bit out of touch, so please let’s have a few up to date reports. How’s Monty doing for example? Managing to lay off the sauce? Did he ever try conversion therapy as recommended by that old Catholic fruit fly Anne Widdecombe?

I’m a parishioner in Welwyn Garden City. Fr Montgomery just seems to be getting on with visiting parishioners. He preaches about confession but is a good priest in the confessional.

Like

Re @9:10pm, preaching about confession is another giveaway. It’s an affectation beloved by certain types of “apparently” traditionalist clergy. I don’t deny the place and value of confession, but few people go now for very sound reasons and so it tends to be the preserve of pious neurotics. Lionel Blue once observed that much of his ministry was spent repairing the damage inflicted by his fellow rabbis. I think Catholics can recognize that. Apart from confession, Monty is also keen on Days with Mary. I ask you how this squares with the call to engage with the issues of our time.

The difference between ‘cradle’ Catholics and converts is cradle Catholics can feel free to be bigoted and look down on converts. The jealousy in the above comment is palpable.

Didn’t Pat praise the Bishop of Northampton for how he responded publicly on this situation? Doyle takes no prisoners.

Quite right as that’s another story where things don’t add up and nobody bothers to ask the diocese why for example McDermott was an active priest for only 8 years between 1971 and 1979. So why the disappearance 40 years ago when he was a young priest in his prime? Did he continue to be salaried by the Diocese of Northampton like the Birmingham priest James Robinson? These characters are everywhere either ℅ Archbishop’s House or just disappeared but the bishop knows where they are, but like Wuerl “forgets”. Back in Westminster, Eugene Fitzpatrick was ℅ for years before finally being brought to trial. Anybody know the story of Mark Coningsby who went ℅ for decades before he died – probably to a sigh of relief. Then in Brum we have the unexplained disappearance of Daniel Seward from the Oxford Oratory. In UK and Ireland alone I wonder how many holy fathers we are talking about here. A lot! Rory Coyle for starters. Does even Grindr know?

What a nasty crowd of queen bitches on the blog today! Back stabbers, gossipers, vicious innuendo – all led and orchestrated by the arch queen bitch, Buckley. Whose worse – The Oratory Matriarch, the Catholic, Anglican, ex-Anglican queens of mean? You’re all from the same smutty and slutty gene pool, titilated by stories of sexual exploits and the constant fantasizing about other clerics. You are all a weird, pervy bunch. I wouldn’t let any of you near a dog, let alone a child. Grow up you idiots.

+ Vincent had a breakdown when he pulled a sickie, a proper implode, and had to be taken away to the country by a friendly retired bishop and the nun for rest and recuperation. I don’t think he was putting it on. All brought about, no doubt, by the prospect of his IICSA appearance and having to give an account of his time in Birmingham. And the shame of having been summonsed – yes, summonsed – to appear under oath. And he The Cardinal ! I note he was’t referred to as Your Eminence, but as Archbishop. Ouch, that will have hurt !
Tolkien. The Archdiocese of Birmingham will have been, and probably still is, a beneficiary of the Tolkien Estate / Trust and would not want to upset them. I’m sure + Vincent had that in mind when he was dealing with the Tolkien business. The Tolkien Estate / Trust is very precious about the Tolkien brand, and would not want it harmed in anyway. Brands can be damaged very quickly. So, I reckon that axis between Birmingham and the Tolkien Estate / Trust is one which will have been very much in mind when dealing with Father Tolkien and his victims.
Many dioceses now have married ex-Anglican clergy running them as parish priests, living in the presbytery with their families. And this, in spite of protestations in the 90s when the first batch came over, that they would be employed in chaplaincies etc., and not in parishes – in order, I presume, not to confuse the faithful ! Anyhow, arithmetic has won out, and most bishops are quite happy to have a married ex-Anglican as a parish priest, because if it can talk, walk, and say Mass it is needed. It would be interesting to hear a bishop say what was said in an earlier post, that in the congregation watching the married ex-Anglican priest celebrating Mass will be priests who laid down their ministry to marry, and that it is a pity that they – still priests, if you are to believe the ontological nonsense that inhabits the RC theology of priesthood – cannot take up their priesthood again. Or that it would be good to have married priests full stop. Or indeed women priests. The arithmetical logic is going to bite increasingly in the next couple of decades, when any existing celibate clergy will retire or die, and there will be a dearth of priests, because most young men have long worked out that the culture of priesthood that we currently have is dysfunctional and recipe for unhappiness and oddity, and so don’t put themselves forward. And, we only have to look at our seminaries to see the patent dysfunction of staff and seminarians. There are very strange goings on in our seminaries.
So, what will the Church do, a Church remember which lays such emphasis on the sacraments and people having access to them ? Please tell me ? But, forget the importation business of foreign priests. That’s just another form of the slave trade. No, there needs to be some real constructive blue skies thinking for a solution that breaks away from the nonsense that has brought up to this pass. I don’t hear it coming from our bishops. All I hear is twee pious nonsense mouthed in the most inoffensive way. Does anybody know of one bishop in Ireland or the UK that speaks about the real issues facing our Church, and asking the questions that need to be asked ? No. They are company men, one and all, cut from the same cloth and coming out of the same clerical, hierarchical, mould. And, they have a vested interest in keeping quiet, because their livelihood is tied up with their position, both before and after retirement, and they don’t want to jeopardise their comfortable lives. That’s the kind of leadership we are lumbered with.

The importing of usually African priests is another desperate ploy to fill the gaps left by dead, departed or disgraced priests. It is another disaster waiting to happen, owing to an over-weening sense of entitlement and sense of privileged caste. If you thought the Father-knows-best syndrome was dead and gone, look again.

Why did Northampton Diocese allow Father Francis McDermott to keep working when complaints had been made? Now he is a convicted sex offender why is he still given the status of being a retired Priests on the Clergy list for the diocese ?

Like

Are you a fellow Northampton Priest with sour grapes? You certainly sound like it. If you have evidence about this case you are bound to report it not gossip about it on here. I think Fr McDermott retired in the 1990’s.

Bishop Doyle was very supportive of Father Francis McDermott even speaking with him , and providing support for him . He only did the the take no prisoner act the day he was found guilty because he made a mess in his pants that the Diocese would be taken to court for moving him after complaints had been made , or allowing him to stay in ministry after a complaint . I think you will find in his early years of Priesthood after ordination a complaint was made in the first instance , and he was simply moved to High Wycombe .When he was in ministry later in Aylesbury complaints were made again . He was allowed to stay in ministry as he was after being interviewed by police a number of times . The Diocese simply chose to listen to him , and not the victims .

Watching Nichol’s being challenged and quizzed by secular lawyers was interesting. He probably did not think the day would ever arise when he would be held accountable for his behaviour and by a woman of all people!
I would like to draw Bishop Pat and the blog readerships’ attention to the case of Father Eugene Fitzpatrick a child raping paedophile cleric of the Westminster Archdiocese convicted and jailed at Blackfriars Crown Court London for 22 years following decades of child abusing criminality
I draw the readers attention to 2 articles
1- https://www.theinquiry.ca/wordpress/rc-scandal/other-countries/u-k/catholic-priest-who-raped-and-assaulted-boys-jailed-for-22-years-related-article/comment-page-1/
There was extensive discussion of this case on Sylvia’s Site; What is interesting is the contribution from Rev. Tom Doyle O.P. His recollections of Fitzpatrick and his stay in the USA are interesting and of note.
Furthermore blog contributors have supplied background information on Fitzpatrick and his time at the Westminster Archdiocesan ‘seminary’ Allen Hall. Amongst other things the rector of the this’seminary’ Monsignor John Coghlan was too convicted and jailed of paedophile offences.
2-https://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/813685/Catholic-priest-father-Eugene-Fitzpatrick-jailed-22-years-historic-sex-abuse-boys
The London media daily The Express gives a redaction of Fitzpatrick;s decades long rampage against children.
Nichol’s was Westminster auxiliary for many years prior to his translation to Birmingham. What did he know? I suspect a good deal. It is clear the Westminster Archdiocese knew only too well of Fitzpatrick’s extensive criminality and did nothing until 2005/6 when yet again Cormac Murphy O Connor the Archbishop of Westminster at the time decided to suspend Fitzpatrick from ministry. It took another 10 years before a criminal trial would commence.
I believe we have a conspiracy here in relation to Fitzpatrick. To have a paedophile seminary rector protect a known paedophile seminarian beggars belief. Clearly senior clergy from the Archdiocese knew of these matters- Fitzpatrick’s own family made representations to them about him.
As for Nichol’s- well he has been finally caught out and what he says is now a crock of shite
