IRISH AMERICAN PRIEST STOLE £81,758 TO FUND HIS LIFESTYLE AND HIS BOYFRIENDS.

An American priest with Irish roots has been accused of stealing funds from his parish to spend on his male lovers and a lavish lifestyle.

Fr Joseph McLoone (56) is accused of stealing nearly $100,000 (€88,746) from his parish and spending it on a beach house, travel, dining and men he dated.

The Chester County District Attorney’s Office said Fr McLoone had been arrested on Wednesday for alleged theft from St Joseph’s Catholic Church in Downingtown, Pennsylvania.

Prosecutors allege the priest, whose parents emigrated to the US from Co Donegal, diverted funds into a secret account and allegedly misappropriated fees charged to parishioners.

They have claimed he used the money for a beach house in Ocean City, New Jersey, as well as to fund his lifestyle.

Prosecutors further allege that Fr McLoone gave himself a pay rise by doubling the amount he collected as a stipend for each Mass, wedding and funeral held at the parish, where he had worked for eight years.

Information posted on the Chester County District Attorney’s Office website said Fr McLoone, a resident of Downingtown, Pennsylvania, was charged with “theft by unlawful taking” and related offences.

It said he had been arrested on August 21 and his unsecured bail had been set at $50,000 (€45,077).
District attorney chief of staff Charles Gaza said: “Fr McLoone held a position of leadership and his parishioners trusted him to properly handle their generous donations to the church.”

The office said it was alleged in the criminal complaint that in 2011, Joseph Connell McLoone took over as pastor of St Joseph’s Parish in Downingtown, Chester County.
“During his tenure at St Joseph’s Parish, the defendant used his position as pastor to circumvent financial controls and illegally change practices which benefited him financially,” court papers say.

It is alleged that on November 2, 2011, the defendant opened an account at TD Bank which he named the ‘St Joseph Activity Account’.
Over the next six years, he diverted around $125,000 (€112,665) in donation cheques written to the St Joseph’s Parish into this account.

“The sources of these diverted funds included donations for the use of the church and school by community groups, donations from the congregation related to special collections held during masses, fees paid to the parish for weddings and funerals by those married at the church or holding funeral services for a loved one, and other gifts made out to St Joseph’s parish,” the court papers say.

Some money from the account was recovered.

The papers allege Fr McLoone created the activity account for the purpose of avoiding disclosure of the funds to the diocese.

“The defendant took full advantage of the lack of control over the activity account and used it to fund his personal lifestyle,” it is alleged.
“His lifestyle included a beach house, travel, dining and spending on adult men with whom he maintained sexual relationships.”

The Archdiocese of Philadelphia said the priest was on administrative leave and it was continuing to cooperate with the authorities.

PAT SAYS

There are temptations everywhere and money sitting around or in bank accounts you control is a massive temptation.

His salary was not enough for him to live his desired lifestyle and to keep his boyfriends in the the fashion they had become used to.

A few years ago this would not have come before the courts as the financial systems were not in place.

In the old days BISHOOS treated diocesan money as if it were theirs – and parish priests did the same with parish funds.

In the 1970s I visited a parish in Belfast and the curate had a big steel bucklet in the presbytery where he threw the collections, stole fees and Mass offerings.

Evertime he went out he grabbed a big handful of notes from the bucket.

In the same parish the PP kept all the coins in a safe in his house and if the altar obliged him by sitting on his knee in only their underpants he have them a handful of coins.

Pat, the days past in parishes were an invitation for irregularities and dishonesty and theft, such were the complete lack of any systems of accountability. Wherever there are large sums of money without proper accountability, temptations are inevitable. I never witnessed what you did re: bucket with money but I did witness theft big time in three parishes by lay counters through setting up cctv. In all cases people were found out and given the door. In onecsituation I wascalmost about to call in the fraud squad but was advised not to. Today in our parishes the procedures are very stringent, requiring a group of counters who count and sign off together. The new charities act make it paramount that all income from baptisms, weddings and funerals be listed, donor’s names taken and amount acknowledged. Also these figures are entered into an overall diocesan programme. It is much more difficult to find loopholes. Money is a great temptation. I worked in a few parishes in the states in the distant past and I was amazed at the incredible contributions made for every occasion. Amazed too how many bank accounts operated…In one parish I was given a card for petrol, one for food and one for withdrawing money from an account for my stipend each week. It would have been easy to be reckless. Sad when the wayward life of a cleric leads him to stealing to support his unacceptable lifestyle.

Never, EVER, trust a dirty, filthy, Christ-betraying Roman Catholic priest.
Look at what that excuse for a human being, Noel Treanor, did with donations to his diocese: spent 4 million quid (maybe more) on upgrading his palatial accomodation and offices. And not one (not freakin’ ONE) of the ‘good’ 😅 priests of Down and Connor had the balls to object, publicly and openly, to what Treanor had done. Not one.
Roman Catholic priests are like human turds: they need to be passed, but then flushed away to ensure health and safety.
Next time you see a dirty Romanist priest (and they ALL are dirty) think of a turd.😆

I am aware of a priest who had a gambling addiction and used parish funds to facilitate his gambling. When found out, some deal was done whereby it didn’t end up in the courts, and he went off for sabbatical and counselling etc. Some years later he was back as superior of the province of his order, and is now back again for another stint. Seems odd ? In any other walk of life the man would have been prosecuted. But, that’s the way with clergy, isn’t it. The same rules don’t apply as they do to the rest of us. The behaviour of clergy, their inefficiency, their performance, their odd behaviors just seem to be overlooked, and they blithely carry on, whereas in any other walk of life or profession they would be accountable, answerable and probably deemed ineffective and incompetent and moved on.

If I’m a bully what, then, were those abusing priests who, after raping or sodomising defenceless minors, threatened them in one way or another (sometimes with hellfire) should they report the abuse?

What were those bishops who either haughtily dismissed such reports, or met with victims while accompanied by the intimidating presence of lawyers?

And what was Sean Brady when he and his co-conspirators met with two fourteen-year-old boys, without allowing their parents to be present, and then proceeded to ask them purient questions about the abuse they suffered, years earlier, through Father Brendan Smyth… in order to determine whether culpability for the abuse could be pinned on them rather than on poor Father Brendan?

My comments about Roman Catholic priests are not hate-inciting, but they do express my hatred of this category of human being. I hold these men in deepest contempt, as Christ-betrayers, liars, cowards, and soul-murderers.

This year’s intake of new Maynooth sems starts is due to arrive in the college next Sunday, 1st September. I wonder how many there will be, and if there will be no press release, as has been the pattern in recent years.
Then from 2-6 September the First Divines are packed off to St Luke’s in Manchester for a bit of cod psychology and the usual questions about the frequency of wet dreams and how often you see a lady’s special place in Rorschach pictures.
The so-called Rector is actually just the old Senior Dean rebadged. He occupies the Senior Dean’s old rooms. An ill-effect of the change is that the Seminary Council, which decides on warnings and whether or not a student passes the stages to ordination now consists of just the Rector and the Director of Formation.
That’s too much power vested in two men. In my day it was called the Administrative Council and it consisted of the President, the two vice-Presidents and the three Dean’s and the six members had to arrive at unanimous or majority decisions.

Because you and ‘Mick’ personally have taken offence at my comments about the Christ-betraying priests of the institutional Roman Catholic Church does not make them hate crimes: law isn’t determined here by your opprobrium, or finer sensibilities.

There is a difference between hate-incident and hate-crime, and the determination of conduct as either one or the other is dependent on the infringement of certain, prescribed categories, like religion and sexual orientation. I have not infringed in any such way.

I should think that anyone who was being orally raped by a 6ft 3in sociopath he saw regularly during choir practice (and probably on other occasions, too) would well remember the incident, and exactly who the perpetrator was.

The ‘Pellites’ are becoming increasingly desperate to avoid the conclusion they cowardly shrink from: that Pell’s conviction is utterly safe.

Probably only a Catholic priest could manage to get the subject of ‘helping’ someone, telling them they’ll go to hell, and reporting them to the police for inciting hatred, into the same exchange. In fact that is the constant subtext in clerics/true believing Catholics who post here: we love you /want to help you /shut up/submit.

Yes I reckon both ‘Mick’ and Bellarmine are put up jobs, because here’s how I know Mick isn’t a priest… It’s something he said, when he told Magna he was going to hell. There isn’t a Catholic priest ordained since about 1960 who believes in hell or any other part of the Catholic faith for a start. And for the second reason, the Catholic faith teaches that God makes the judgement, not us. A Catholic priest would not therefore tell someone they will go to hell, because the most rudimentary Catholic education would tell him it is not for him to say. Bellarmine does it all the time, but one can only expect her to be ignorant.

Otherwise, life in seminary would have been grim and basic. There is no fun in just slumming it for the sake of slumming it, I think. Once through that, I was able to settle down to a pleasant life as a priest and was able to look after myself. And all without dipping my hand in to the collection box, I can assure you ! And yes, I work hard. But I make sure that I have some kind of a life as well. Seems a good balance to me. Stuff the miseries who think that we should all be miserable in the name of being holy and dedicated. Most of them are just autistic, maladjusted, miserable, depressive types who don’t know how to enjoy themselves and be happy. Poor dears ! Get a life, I say ! Father John San Meung with his imaginary brother, wannabe seminarian stuck back in Burma, was the ruse used to get a lot of private donations to his gambling habit in Reno.

Back at Epiphany Parish, apparently Pastor McCarthy didn’t notice or was complicit or on the take. Then Father John was caught and all hell broke loose, with angry parishioners demanding their money back, which they did indeed get, apparently, even from my not-so-gullible father.
I looked him up one day out of idle adult curiosity, thirty years after his 1970’s shenanigans.
He was transferred to a parish in Illinois, where he got caught again, embezzling. No mention of gambling but do people change much?
Then he got transferred again.
To this day we the five adult children won’t give a dime to the church. Thanks for the timely teenage lesson, Father John San Meung!
As a female parishioner, I couldn’t understand why the priests could come and go with their own cars, eat with parishioners and beg for money ($100 Checks back in 1973), take off for Reno regularly and no one noticed? What is the job of the pastor or the bishop? Who’s in charge? Why aren’t they controlled as the nuns were, with minimal cash, tight schedules and accountable at all times to their pastor? Total freedom! No wonder girls wanted to be priests! It was rhe life of Reilly!
