LAWSUIT CLAIMS MOTHER TERESA SHIELDED PAEDOPHILE PRIEST.

JANUARY 1, 2020 BY BARRY DUKE

A LAWSUIT filed in California yesterday (Tuesday) alleges that Mother Teresa vigorously defended her ‘spiritual advisor’ – a priest known to have abused numerous young boys in various locations around the world.

In 1994, Teresa of Calcutta, now a saint, wrote a letter to Fr Donald J McGuire’s superior, the Jesuit provincial, supporting McGuire and refusing to believe abuse allegations against him. In that letter, Mother Teresa noted that McGuire:

“Admitted imprudence in his behavior”.

But:

“We, in the Missionaries of Charity, will do all in our power, to protect him and the Priesthood of Jesus Christ, which he bears, when he once more takes up his mission with us. I am full of hope that you will send Fr. McGuire to continue his ministry to the Missionaries of Charity as soon as is possible”.

The ghastly old fraud’s support McGuire, whose predatory behavior stretched back to the early 1960s, came to light in in a lawsuit filed by attorney Jeff Anderson on behalf of Robert J Goldberg who alleges that McGuire sexually abused him:

More than 1,000 times, in multiple states and countries.

The Jesuit priest touted his connection to Mother Teresa as a way to gain people’s confidence so he could “access kids and violate their trust.”

McGuire was serving a a 25-year federal prison sentence for molesting minors when he died in 2017.

According to the lawsuit, Goldberg was 11 when he first met the priest in 1970 in Chicago. Subsequently McGuire hired him as his personal assistant. When Fr. McGuire moved to California in 1976, Goldberg and his family followed along.

At times, the priest would share the boy’s bed at the family home. Much of the alleged sexual abuse happened as Goldberg traveled with McGuire to spiritual retreats. The abuse included “sexual touching, oral copulation and anal penetration,” the lawsuit states.

In a videoed press conference yesterday Anderson said Jesuit provincials knew of pederasty allegations against McGuire, but kept him in ministry for years, shuffling him across the country and letting him travel around the world.

Thus, this lawsuit names the Jesuit order. It also names the archdiocese of San Francisco [because] it gave permission to Donald McGuire and the Jesuit order to allow him to work here.

Anderson presented reporters a map of the world with red dots representing places where McGuire allegedly perpetrated the abuse. It included:

• Sexual abuse in Austria and Germany in the 1960s

• Abusing a boy at Loyola Academy in Wilmette, Wisconsin in 1968

• Molesting two boys at Loyola Academy in 1972 (McGuire was later convicted in 2006 on these allegations)

• Repeatedly abusing a boy in Phoenix, Arizona and Barrington, Illinois from 1988–1994, beginning when the victim was nine years old

• Abusing five minors while stationed at Canisius House in Evanston, Illinois, 1989–2003

As Teresa’s spiritual advisor he helped screen potential candidates for the Missionaries of Charity, the order she founded.

Last year, the Jesuits’ Midwest Province included McGuire’s name on a list of credibly accused clergy involved in sexual misconduct.

Goldberg’s lawsuit comes after the state of California expanded the statute of limitations for child sexual abuse victims. In October, lawmakers decided to suspend the statute of limitations for three years, allowing victims to file civil suits for abuse that happened decades ago. The three-year window begins January 1.

PAT SAYS

The Mother Teresa LIE is RCC propaganda at its worst.

I do not believe that Teresa was a saint.

She was a backward women who, almost like a sadist, believed in the redemptive power of UNNECESSARY SUFFERING.

Suffering, that we cannot do anything about, if approached in the proper way, can indeed be redemptive.

But suffering that is unnecessary, that can be solved by human effort, is not redemptive, if just ignored or indeed romanticized.

Teresa spent too much time ass licking John Paul 11 and other rich and famous leaders.

She should have been taking their money off them to HEAL the sick and dying.

Hitchens is quite tough on Mother T.

But his toughness is deserved.

The poor and the deprived do not need “holy” people to send them on the Paradise Express asap.

They need fiery prophets and champions of justice to shame world and church leaders into emptying their coffers and pockets to uplift the downtrodden.

This latest revelation that Teresa supported and covered up for a paedophile priest is the last straw.

“Sure the child is dying. The priest might as well get some use out of him before I despatch him on the Paradise Express”.

Utterly shameful!!!

Mother Teresa received Noble prize and became Saint based to great work in Calcutta for loving the unloved and cared for the unwanted!!!
She might not be aware about that priest private life!!! She was not living with him and that priest never confess to Mother Teresa about his evil side!!!
Maybe with Mother Teresa he wear a different mask!!! Mother Teresa was not a lawyer neither anticrime officer.
She was a nun, who dedicated her life and prayers to the poorest of the poorest!!! If you do as much as Mother Teresa to help humanity and denying yourself I am sure you will be better priests and citizens!!!

Buckkey, you do all in your power for self aggrandizing reasons, to demolish any vestige of true Catholic faith. Not happy with carping on about Priests, now you take to attacking Saint Teresa, who despite her human failings, achieved more by way of encouraging compassion in others in a way you remarkably fail to do. What would you expect from Atheist Hitchens? Lies, disdain and hatred.

‘Attacking Teresa, who had her human failings…’ are you completely stupid or what? She used her considerable power and influence to cover up for a paedophile priest then allowed him to go on to abuse again.
She was a monster.
She sold her soul to the devil when she allowed the little ones to be suffer.
It would have been better a mill stone tied around her neck from the outset, is the reference from scripture.

It’s a moot point concerning the degree to which ‘cover up’ actions like Teresa’s, and many other high profile clergy, indicates an utter naivety of any shred of understanding of the nature and damaging effects of sexual abuse, or alternatively, that it indicates primarily a protectionist stance of minimising and denying anything which might show the RC establishment and its ministers as failing in any way.
Purely from my own perspective, I think that in general, it was probably something like 75% naivety, but with that percentage diminishing in line with the seniority of the cleric. By that I mean that the more senior the cleric, the more likely to have been the propensity to cover up and engage in damage limitation strategies with little concern for the victims of abuse.
A moot point, and one on which I welcome other views.

@MMM,
Thank you for inviting other views. Your point essentially mirrors what I was going to comment so I won’t create a new comment. Please permit me to add tangents though.
I suggest that the higher the cleric the further he is from the suffering and the closer he is to the central politics of the church and this motivates cover-up. Additionally the increasing likelihood to cover up is reflected in many other institutions – we know this from various policing bodies etc,and the need in recent years to enact protected disclosure legislation.
The clergy, like many of the laity, will act to protect organisational reputation.
Sadly the church will only ever protect itself by embrasing the call to be meek and humble of heart. Nevertheless while clericals globally call the laity to be counter-cultural it is the church itself that fails to hear it’s own message.

Like

Can such generalizations be made? Why cover up unless it’s known to be legally and morally wrong? Forget about their awareness of the psychological/ emotional impact on victims.. That’s irrelevant when required to do the right thing.
Of course protecting the institution was paramount because abuse was recognized for what it is, legally and morally wrong, as well as a potential for huge scandal. The ‘mark of the priesthood’ says it all! The clerical fraternity protects it’s own. These people claimed to be our moral and spiritual leaders, when the reality is, many of them are morally and spiritually bankrupt, as well as lacking in humanity. They’re not just another institution.

With who would Jesus Christ align Himself?

The frequently-used excuse that bishops did not know child abuse was illegal has always been nonsense, of course. Additionally these are men who will all have been trained in moral theology and none of them has the excuse of not knowing the church teaches that sex outof marriage is mortal sin. Naivety my *rse.

Like

@ Anon 12.47.
They learned in moral theology that it was sin. However they learned in life and in the confessional that sexual immorality was also rampant in society. Think of the thousands of women sent to laundries on the perverted understanding that they needed to atone for their sins. They understood it as being like an alcoholic who falls off the wagon and tries again.
They key failing however was that because of the celibacy mindset sex comes to be viewed as a purely physical transaction between two people – which priests often fantacise about. In the post transaction mindset the focus is on sin and broken vows/promises. Their damaged mindset fails to consider the other person, and the effect of abuse/rape on them – regardless of age.

Like

I do take your point, Holy Goat, however think your perception of the confessional mindset is accurate but still portrays a distorted mindset about sin. The priests who have got into the mindset of not being that bothered about sexual sin are dangerous in every way. Say if someone married confessed an affair some reflection on the effect of their spouse should be expected. If someone confessed rape then clearly three hail Mary’s is not enough because it not only affects other people but is both dangerous and illegal.
The underlying problem here is that we are talking about clergy who are not bothered about the effect on other people of abuse and this is about as twisted as you get, and comes from men who are professionals in the area of sin!

Like

@Anon 8.18pm
I am glad we are in agreement. That is the exact point I was trying to make on mindsets.

Like

Some further thoughts this morning on the naivety aspect.
I would not accept hierarchical naivety as an excuse, in the sense of an exoneration, where they have failed to act appropriately when abuse by a cleric has been disclosed, or suspected. Some could argue that such naivety might be more understandable in the distant past before the deluge of abuse revelations began. Perhaps, but I think that over the past 30 years or so the hierarchy has had ample opportunity and certainly a paramount responsibility to inform themselves of all the dynamics associated with abuse in order to take appropriate action.
That they patently failed to do so invites speculation: …… criticism of an arrogant ‘know-it-all’ attitude; criticism of a regime that recruited, formed, promoted and sustained such morally and intellectually feeble characters……as well of course as the ostrich like ‘head burying’ or conscious cover up tactics primarily concerned with protecting the church and themselves.

What is utterly shameful Pat is your printing totally unverifiable accounts of Mother Teresa’s connection to a paedophile priest suggesting that she was offering that priest opportunities to abuse. With all your (cheap) talk about that we should have lay Cardinals, Bishops etc… you didn’t tell us how many such people your oratory possesses, if any! It might be informative to know what company he kept when he travelled, and what pastimes and weaknesses did he have besides paedophilia.
For example did he always keep himself to himself, or might he when in foreign lands, and moving in academic circles, then move into the inner-circles of the demimonde?

In the case of the priest here:

The CV merely indicates that clericalism is about pampering clerics. The rest of us are fortunate that they are thus prevented from interfering with us, and in this case the Missionaries of Charity are fortunate that he was into kiddy fiddling, or he may have raped the sisters and then that would have been covered up in the interest of protecting his priesthood.

That’s what we’ve all been thinking that the Church’s reason for moving-about of pervert clergy. That it was so as to protect the good name of the Church,. But in the last few weeks I’ve come to doubt it.

The Norbertines were hardly protecting the priesthood, or the good name of their Order when they persisted in moving Brendan Smyth about rather than firmly confining him to an enclosed monastery.

In order to protect the good name of doctors the medical profession have the Medical Defence Union. But they don’t move pervert doctors around. They strike them off. And internationally they have measures in place to prevent miscreant doctors relocating.

It’s only since 2002 or 2003 that the public have known anything at all about the involvement of the Papacy and the Hierarchy in the movement of criminal clerics. And I suspect that at we’re still only starting to scratch the surface.

11.17: That is an utterly ridiculous and stupid argument to make. You use it all the time as a soundbyte. It’s patently untrue and you should stop peddling untruths. In M8ther Teresa’s India and in many other cities of the world, there are many abandoned, unwanted and thrown away luttle children, many left to rot and die in gutters. At least Saint Teresa picked them up and embraced them in their dying moments. We have children begging for survival on the streets of Ireland and eating food from a cardboard plate on O’ Connell Street. Only for charities, many of them Christian (and Catholic), these children and homeless families would be forgotten. I think that old chestnut soundbyte (caring for unborn but not born) is a useless, meaningless and untrue soundbyte. It sounds good but it’s a distraction from other truths, which, you, Pat, cannot articulate. Why do you find it so difficult to affirm the genuine goodness of Catholic charities?

The Order is worth millions from worldwide donations (including holding on to at least a million dollars fraudulently obtained from the life savings of elderly Americans), and yet, very little of this money is spent on helping the poor and dying. One reason for this is that Mother Theresa believed, dogmatically, in the efficacy of human suffering (it’s good for the soul) that she thought the sick and dying should not avoid what she would have called their ‘crosses’.

Listen caregully to the video above. Theresa wouldn’t spend money on even providing palliative care. Some of the people she supposedly tended must have died in agony.

The Sisters of Charity is a religious order that not only embraces personal suffering with a worrying fervour, but inflicts it, too. The video above refers to some of it.

Mother Theresa’s immediate successor, Sr Mary Nirmala (died 2009), once, on a YouTube video, justified to herself a senior sister’s searing, with a knife heated over a stove, the hands of four very young children she had SUSPECTED of stealing from school funds.

When this was put to Nirmala by a journalist, her reply was that the children were being taught whom it was they served.
