EVERT ON THE EVILS OF CONTRACEPTION

PAT SAYS

What is wrong with ejits like Phonsie Cullinan going on about the evils of sex, yoga and contraception two decades into the 21st century?

Are they still trying to live in 1940s Catholic Ireland?

And worse still, they are trying to make the whole Irish population live like that too!

Most of us who grew up under RCC brainwashing, took years to get over the repression they subjected us to do – whioevtyey lived filthy lives themselves.

Many never got over it and died repressed, guilty and miserable.

The RCC should be charged with crimes against humanity for all this torture they subjected us too.

Parents, keep your children well away from Crazy Phonsie and his nun acolyte.

Please, when will people like this bishop and others in the Catholic Church get over their obsession with the loins, genitals and sex ? It is all so passé. It sounds obsessive and dysfunctional. It wreaks of angry frustration and loathing. Poor things. How unhappy they must be. And all this twee, faux coolness and hipness about it being such a joy is yuck making !
For too long we have been inflicted with this idiotic nonsense, and it has done incalculable damage to individuals and to the Church. Any right thinking person in the Church takes the issues of morality, sexuality, use of our sexual gifts and how we use those in love and relationships with some seriousness. But, not obsessively. They are only one aspect of the rich tapestry of life, and should be seen in conjunction with all the other parts of our life rather than as a single issue . Some have made a whole culture out of their obsession, as we see in the culture warriors and wars in places like the USA where the Church there is at war with the rest of society. God knows how they think they are doing any good by being at odds with the majority of people and saying terrible things about them. Here, we have a our nutter fringe groups as well whose thinking is dominated by single issue moral issues. They don’t do much good, turning people away from the Church and faith by their unhealthy obsessions.
So, Phonsie should spend his time worrying about other things and disinviting these idiots to preach their warped nonsense to the young. And sensible teachers and youth leaders should do what they can to stop their youngster from going to hear this poison As should parents who have a responsibility to ensure that their children are brought up with a wholistic view of themselves, others and the world, rather than taking on this failed and dangerous view of the physical, the sexual and relationships. Do they want to have inflicted other kids what was foisted on to previous generations, probably themselves ? I think not !

Is there no one in Ireland considered ‘chaste’ enough or no priest in his diocese capable of discussing these issues, without having to import an American from the Church in America, which is imploding.

I’d rather my son or daughter take their moral lead from the Bishop and this youth group than from Pat’s do what you like, have what you desire and live sexually active attitude without corresponding moral responsibilities. Pat, go and foist your valueless ideology on your own moteley, carefree crew.

Like

11.37: I wholeheartedly agree with you. Young people deserve proper moral guidance re: sexuality, relationships, consent, intimacy, parental and marriage responsibilities. Pat’s morals are blow with the wind type: whatever you want, go for it, even if it means risking STD’s through reckless relationships. You may not like the Bishop for the responsible messages and challenges being taught but young people desparately need moral guidance. Pat, get over your anti, hateful narrative about Bishop Cullinan and these courageous young people.

Proper? A loaded word, that. Sounds completely self-referential.
So tell us: Who, or what, defines ‘proper’ here? You? Or the Roman Strumpet, who has disgraced herself morally around the world. (And how! 😲)
And where-oh-where are young people ‘desparately in need of moral guidance’? Did they tell you this? Or did you just take it upon yourself (purely as a work of mercy, of course) to tell them how desparate they are, but don’t know it?
Do you get off talking about youth and sex?
You’re a dirty Romanist priest, aren’t you? 😈

Moral guidance from RC bishops and clergy who support and cover-up the abuse of children and vulnerable adults! Are they for real!!
I know where I’d rather get my moral guidance from, and it most certainly is not from an institution that is OBSESSED with sin and SEX; priests and bishops interfering with children. HELLO!!
My parents talked to me and my brother about the birds and the bees when we were both young teenagers; they even told us that we should wait until we ‘found the right one’ they even told us about contraception and how a man should always have respect for a woman and treat her like a queen… well… little did they know that I was a queen 😂
But jokes aside, it is the job of the parents and the school to sensibly educate young people in these matters and most certainly NOT the RCC or any sex OBSESSED so-called chastity apostle. I am shocked and horrified at the thought of that so-called chastity apostle going anywhere near a class room; he could cause untold emotional and psychological damage – the the results of which could be similar some of the issues we are seeing in church today.

As once a catholic and loyal volunteer who spent many years of service in the church, I happily walked away years ago and wish I had of had the balls to do it sooner! Funny how I find myself closer and intimate to people and God now than ever before!
I always seen friendly, happy leaders/representatives at first glance in mass or in the community yet on closer inspection their interior reality was quite the opposite. Exposing their exteriors quite commonly revealed a person searching and struggling with the contradictions imposed on them by the outdated and oppressive catholic institution. Would a loving God who made us in his image have envisaged our humanity to be imposed by as such? These rules often lead to a person living a trapped life and guilt, a powerful destructive emotion is a common feature for most.
I would have witnessed people living out dual lives full of contradiction and dysfunction and to deal with it attempt to fill their loss by addiction or abuse. Quite sad really, and of course when pointed out I would receive a multitude of pie in the sky responses all of which served with venomous defense! This institution as I have learnt lives and feeds off these most vulnerable in our society. If you suspect any exploitation in your church, speak up! I pray for people to open their eyes and see!

Excellent posts at 10:07 and 12:44. I had to switch off that revolting video clip after a couple of minutes rather than hear that character giving his expert opinion on women’s bodies, which, according to him, they do not even understand themselves! In recent years, particularly in America where right wing Catholics both collude and compete with Evangelicals, the Church, in the face of all its own monstrous failings and abuse of the young and vulnerable, has desperately tried to reclaim the moral high ground by promoting this kind of nonsense about human sexuality. Though it is a minority position, other bishops, priests, teachers, parents and so on say nothing against it for fear of losing their jobs or not getting their kids a place in the “selective” Catholic school of their choice: this is the “trahison des clercs” of our day, as anybody with moral and intellectual integrity has, like @12:44 long left in disgust. I’d suggest that Canon David Oakley is one such “traitor”: a nice, decent, unpretentious pastoral man, who gave no indication whatsoever that he agreed with the likes of Phonsie during his long years at Oscott – rather the contrary according to Father Marsden – but protects his career trajectory by claiming agreement with all three recent Popes. So what does that tell us other than he is is unable to provide any leadership other than sympathy and understanding for “difficult” situations – i.e. only difficult because the Church has made them so? The famous gold standard for this kind of moral betrayal is Elsie’s ditching of the Soho Masses in order to secure a Cardinal’s hat. It’s the gays or you, Elsie: take your pick! A no brainer for Scouse Lad.
I also endorse 10:07’s initial point about looking below the surface of these apostles of purity. The recent film “Boy Erased” is based on a true story in which the Director of a gay conversion centre, having tormented young people to suicide ends up marrying his same sex partner. The chaplain and former Headmaster of a famous Catholic school lectured teenage girls in his care against “fingering themselves”. Later he figured prominently in the IICSA in the UK as having sexually abused a disabled young woman. James Martin SJ has challenged many of these positions in the most restrained and courteous manner, attempting to open up dialogue, yet is vilified on every “traditionalist” or conservative website. One of his sneering detractors was the recently ordained Liverpool priest now serving a prison sentence for having planned the sexual abuse of a two year old boy.

Yep, every time you hear someone lecturing you about hardline, traditionalist, morality – have a think about the flip side of them. Usually their vitriol and moralistic fuming is as a result of some self-loathing, which has in all probability been translated in to dubious action. Do a forensic study, and and you will in all probability find they will themselves have been up to all sorts of things. The more self-righteous and moralistic, the greater the dark side of the person. I find that I’m invariably right. Just saying….

No; he’s entirely self-propelling. Would be acclaimed, I suppose, as a motivational speaker/author from an orthodox Catholic perspective. At least, this is how he might generously describe himself on the dustjacket of one of his sex-obsessed tomes

Thinks like Paul the Apostle…but with blinkers on. Whereas Paul merely talked about (and elevated, almost to pre-emibence) celibacy and chastity as proper preparation for Christ’s imminent coming, this guy has a one-track mind vis-a-vis sex.

I can’t help thinking that there may be a skeleton or two rattling around in his moral cupboard that he’s trying to compensate for through intellectual dogmatism…just like the rug-wearin’ queer, Michaela Voris.

This guy isn’t interested in debating his carnal ideology, but simply in preaching it to uncritical minds. Which is why he is so dangerous to youth.

He should do what Socrates did. 😕

Pat your version of Catholicism is that you subjectivity decide what is Church teaching and what is not. You seem to place yourself as your own Magisterium. Sin is sin, modernism does not change that. At least Phonsie is trying, most Bishops are afraid of offending Joe Duffy as opposed to God

Like

Does the Magisterium (so-called) gurantee sinless teaching?

Who is the Magisterium’s magister? Or is it entirely self-referential (the very criticism you make of Pat)?

I’m asking because just last year Pope Francis revoked centuries of instruction morally in favour of capital punishment, which means that a self-referential magisterium had no business teaching such tripe in the first place. 😕

Like

What Francis did in so called correcting the Catechism on the death penalty is wrong, it is an aberration and it will be corrected by a future Pope in the fullness of time. Many learned theologians are of the same view No one, including a Pope can undo centuries of magisterial teaching. This was a type of virtue signalling by Francis

No one, even a pope, can undo centuries of magisterial teaching?

The Gospel of John does not agree with you, since it has Jesus himself undoing centuries of magisterial Jewish teaching, in the Law of Moses (Leviticus 20: 10; Deuteronomy 22: 23 through 24), which commanded the killing of both male and female adulterers by stoning.

Check out Jn 8: 3 through 11.

By the way, if one truly believes in the Church teaching that human life is sacred from the moment of conception, then one may not violate this fundamental moral principle without similtaneously driving a coach and horses through the Church’s moral argument against intentional abortion.

Pope Francis has acted correctly here, and his teaching will stand, I assure you.

To say that a text already in the Bible doesn’t belong there is a bold statement; it is also insufficient, not least because it is entirely arbitrary and smacks of proof-texting.
The Gospel of John is least concerned among all four gospels with historical chronicle, but makes a theological pitch that presents Jesus, and his teaching in a world that had rejected him (and in a century that saw Christianity persecuted twice, under Roman rule, after Jesus’ death), in a highly mystical way, sometimes through symbolic personal characterisation of subordinate figures, Nathaniel, for instance, and The Disciple Whom Jesus loved. In this sense, the passages you object to fit the purpose of the Johannine gospel very well indeed, since the account of the woman caught in adultery expresses God’s nature in Christ as transcending even Mosaic Law.

I can see that if you only had sex with one person all your life that relationship would have the potential to be incredibly special and the sex could make the earth move.
But…
It would be dependent on the couple relating well and working on the sex as well as on the relationship, for example younger men tend to go at it far too fast for the woman and the woman may not feel able to say this too him.
As for contraception… There is no way I am spending my life from my teens to my forties pregnant unless I want to be, and frankly given the option not to menstruate, I will happily pop the pill.
In a committed relationship using the pill can let the rhythm of sex keep going, but in sex in an uncommitted relationship condoms are the only way and that’s not open to negotiation.

That guy wants a good slap.
