SPIRITS AND SPIRITUAL EXPERIENCES.

CATHERINE, A BLOG READERS, ASKED ME THE OTHER DAY IF I HAD EXPERIENCES OF SPIRITS AND THE SPIRIT WORLD. I SAID I HAD.

The one closest to my heart concerns my mother Jo.

She died on the 3rd August 2006.

On the 3rd August 2007, a year later, and her annisvery I had 4 friends in the house for dinner. They were musicians and we were finished our meal, having a few drinks and they were playing their instruments.

None of the 4 had ever met my mother.

At 10.40 pm one of them looked out the window and said to me: “Pat, theres a woman at the door looking for you:. The door security light had come on. I looked out the window and firstly thought it was my sister who looks quite like my Mum. Them I realised it was my mother.

When we got to the door she had moved back from the door and was standing beside a Chinese Lantern tree in the garden. She was dressed as she was in the above photo. She smiled and waved at me and then was gone.

At 11.20, 40 minutes later the very same sequence of events happened.

Of course I was taken aback but realised she had come to me on her anniversary to let me know she was happy. All my four friends, who as I said had never met her witnessed this.

I still feel her presence in the house and occasionally I get a whiff of one of her two favourite perfumes.

I believe that the”real” and the spirit world are wrapped around each other and divided as if by a flimsy lace curtain.

Sometimes, for some reason, a little breeze blows and we get a glimpse of the spirit world.

I have had other such experiences some very positive, some very negative and some just neutral.

ISLAMIC PRAYER FOR THE DEAD

O God, forgive our living and our dead, those who are present among us and those who are absent, our young and our old, our males and our females. O God, whoever You keep alive, keep him alive in Islam, and whoever You cause to die, cause him to die with faith. O God, do not deprive us of the reward and do not cause us to go astray after this. O God, forgive him and have mercy on him, keep him safe and sound and forgive him, honor his rest and ease his entrance; wash him with water and snow and hail, and cleanse him of sin as a white garment is cleansed of dirt. O God, give him a home better than his home and a family better than his family. O God, admit him to Paradise and protect him from the torment of the grave and the torment of Hell-fire; make his grave spacious and fill it with light.”

O God, if he was a doer of good, then increase his good deeds, and if he was a wrongdoer, then overlook his bad deeds. O God, forgive him and give him the steadiness to say the right thing.

My sister died at 12.15 on 13th January, less than two weeks ago. We were extremely close, more like twins. It was exhausting to be called into the hospital time after time and watch her suffer. I have felt a few waves of grief and I expected to be distraught but I am not. We had so many good times together that I am aware of her all the time in my consciousness. The over all feeling is one of peace, joy and relief that she can never suffer again.

My condolences on the death of your sister.

Death needn’t be the tragedy it is sometimes made out: it can, actually, be an inspiration for many things, even humour.

My mum died in January three years ago, and Bishop Pat kindly offered Mass for her soul.

But before her death, we discussed the possibility of her somehow, from the other side of the grave, finding a way to communicate with me. I, however, made one inflexible exception: I insisted that she not appear by my bed in the middle of the night, lest the shock catapult me to her side…in spirit.

Ever thoughtful, she has kindly obliged me.

So far.😅

Bishop Pat, I heard that the SDLP MLA, Downpatrick grammar school boy, Colin McGrath, accused you on radio yesterday regarding blog comments about Seamus Mallon. Is this the same McGrath who has whispered insults into the ear of the new Stormont speaker Alex Maskey. Google it. Also the same Mr squeaky clean SDLP McGrath who charged NI tax payers £550 for platters of sandwiches charged to his Stormont account. Stormont told him he had to pay it back. Google Irish News (don’t boke) “Stormont recovers more than £4,500 from MLAs in disallowed allowances.

I was just reading last night an article about Seamus Mallon. It was “The political Genius from Markethill” by Jude Collins. Tells you all you need to know about Mallon. He was a close friend and confidant of Bishop Cahal Daly. A regular visitor to the big house in Armagh

Poor Peter Robinson was very hasty in responding to the death of poor Cahal. We now know about him being indidposed according to the news reports.

What’s really interesting is the SDLP are getting riled over this blog. McGrath is a twat in a failed party led by a twat. Their recent Westminster “success” will be short lived and entirely ineffectual. I mean you really have succeeded in stopping Boris and Brexit haven’t you Colum and Claire? 😂🤣

Totally agree they are led by a twat. His brother is gay (his own words) and had to run to England to express it. The man has no spine and talks crap – he also supports abortion like Hannah and McCrossan

At least they take their seats. SF had 6 MPs, what a waste. Vote them back in, they will do a lot!!!!

Pat, only very few carefully selected souls are able to glimpse the departed. Methinks you are the rarest of mortal beings – the one the world awaits.

Seamus Mallon was a drunk (mostly on Jameson) whiskey and a gambler (most papers have said same). The hypocritical crap being spewed out by the the very select SDLP hierarchy have been laughable after his death. His treatment of John Hume was sickening. He was a rude c**t as they say in South Armagh. Is it any wonder he lost his seat to the Shinners.

Claire Hannah is the SDLP darling of the media studios. She hangs around the studios wanting to be interviewed along with her big note book scribbling while other guests are being interviewed. I’m tired listening to her. She’s on every media outlet going. Even in Westminster they are now saying who is this boring bitch from Belfast.

I once saw Margaret Ritchie guzzling down wine in the business lounge at Aldergove before her Aer Lingus flight to Heathrow. That was before they switched the flights to BHD. They all think they are entitled. That Eddie McGrady, SDLP was also criticised one time by the Daily Telegraph for £17,000 abundant luxury staying at the most expensive hotel in London at The Royal Horse Guards Hotel.

On reading this about the SDLP that Dolores Kelly (often dines out around Moira) and John Dallat (often orders takeaways in Kilrea) did retire from Stormont once. Both received £5,000 severance pay for retiring. Where are they now? Back in Stormont as SDLP MLA’s having got the £5000 quid severance pay and now their MLA pay too. You couldn’t make it up pat. They are too busy at the moment shedding crocodile tears over Seamus at Mullaghbrack when he tried to undermine their leader and the rest of them. How sad is that.

Isn’t it amazing how easily some twats go off topic and pursue their own nasty agenda – in this case, against the dead. God rest the soul of Seamus Mallon. Political parties of all hues have their internal wars and conflicts and can turn vicious on each other. Re: spirits and spiritual ecperiences: I had recurring dreams of my mother cycling through summer meadows, free spirited, smiling and waving. It was very comforting and assured me that she was safe and at peace wherever she was: in God’s presence of course. Never doubted after that moment about her good spirit being with us. I believe our loved ones are with us in memory, in thought and often in the everyday revelations through nature, wild flowers, singing birds, the corn fields, the fruit garden – all of which my mother loved, worked at, nurtured and cared for. Lastly when I visit my home place I constantly visualise my mother kneeling at her bed nightly praying the rosary, unfailingly, long after we had all left home. Lovely memories keeping her spirit alive. Thanks and praise to God.

Immediately after he received the Body and Blood of Christ, Éamon Martin’s eyes were roving every direction – no sign of recollection there.

And, of course, he sat down, so as not to have to give out Holy Communion, for fear pro abortionists like Claire Hanna, Simon Coveney or Colum Eastwood, should commit their sins of sacrilege from his hands and get him into hot water. A total and absolute disgrace.

To be fair to Varadkar and “The North is Next” O’Neill, they had the decency not to receive.

Totally agree. Eamon didn’t want to be compromised with Holy Communion. Wise move perhaps but he was the main celebrant so a very odd move. Maybe he feared Pat Buckley would present himself like he did with Phonsie in Co Waterford. Our Eamon didn’t want to side with the pro abortion SDLP members

If people are interested in spirits and spirit sighting in contemporary Britain (and Ireland), they should look at the work of Gillian Bennett. She conducted research in the 1980s into sightings by close family members and friends of other loved ones. She writes as a historian and folklorist. I’d recommend her Traditions of Belief (Penguin, 1987) and Alas, Poor Ghost (Utah, 1999). She shows that it is absolutely normal for loved ones to believe that either they sense the presence of their dead or see them and that the dead are still interested in them and their affairs, especially at times of difficulty. Widows in particular claimed to have experienced this. There are also the longstanding traditions of crisis apparitions, wraiths and other signs that people claim to have observed around the time of the death of a loved one. These are all very different from the ghosts of haunted places, horror films and novels, a ‘hidden tradition’ of spirit belief rather than the overt ones of folklore and popular media.

3.16: Does that include you Pat? Being a HYPOCRITE! I do not believe that if you were the celebrant, God forbid, you would have detailed his political failings and human flaws. There is a mixture of good and bad in all of us that if we begin to be so judgmental, we probably wouldn’t have too many funerals in our Churches. Apart from the unrepentant murderous criminals and criminal abusers (about which I have great difficulty) we should understand properly the meaning of a mass being offered for the dead. It’s not about my opinions as a celebrant but about commending the person to God’s mercy.

I have a small stack of St Martin de Porres magazines. I keep them because every one of them, I think, has an article contributed by an English Anglican priest, Fr Ronald Adkins.
Fr Adkins is dead now, but he claimed to have psychic ability, inherited apparently from his mother. He had many strange but wonderful experiences, including, on occasion, being a conduit for the divine grace of personal healing.
One of his, for me, more fascinating accounts concerned the day when a man confessed to him that he had just murdered his best friend. He had discovered that the fellow was having an affair with his wife, so he took him for a stroll which brought them to a cliff edge somewhere in England. At the highest point, the unsuspecting friend was suddenly pushed over the edge to his death.
His desire for vengeance slaked, the killer was immediately struck by the horror of what he had just done, not least because the death penalty for murder was still in force. He went to his curate, Fr Adkins, and confessed his great sin. Anglicans observed the confessional seal as well as RC priests, so Fr Adkins did not report the crime to the police. Nevertheless, he gave the man absolution, but told him that God would have him do a hard penance some day.
It may have been years later, but the priest was alone his church one night when he sensed someone behind him. He turned round and saw, at a short distance, the man who had confessed murder to him. The man was bathed in light and the priest knew that he was in spirit. The man also looked happy.
The priest did some research and discovered that the killer had died while saving the life of another. He had seen a small child run into a road directly in the path of an oncoming vehicle. Immediately, he sprang to the child’s aid, got him or her out of harm’s way, but had no time to do the same for himself. He was struck, fatally, by the vehicle that would almost certainly have run over the child.
