DIARMUID MARTIN SHOULD MAKE PARTING PUBLIC STATEMENT.

IN 8 WEEKS TIME DIARMUID MARTIN TURNS 75 AND WILL OFFER HIS RESIGNATION AS ARCHBISHOP OF DUBLIN.I THINK ITS VERY IMPORTANT THAT HE MAKES A PARTING PUBLIN STATEMENT ABOUT IRISH SEMINARIANS, SEMINARIES AND SEMINARY STAFF.He should address the following points:1. He could call for the urgent closure of Maynooth.2. He should announce his total lack of confidence in Fathers Mullaney and Collins.3. He should repeat his lack of confidence in The Irish College Rome.4. He should say whether sexually active seminarians should be retained in seminary.5. He should say if he supports the Church’s universal law of celibacy.

Well juxtaposed like that, the comparison is bloody hilarious. Another pompous self-important institution shown up to be ridiculous. Cp the antics of the British Royal Family: with the exception of HM herself, the whole lot have been an absolute shower. Add to that politicians, generals, Headmasters and various other old toss-pots. Good for David, I say! For some childish reason, I’m reminded of Catherine Tate’s proud Belfast Mum: “Have you heard about our John? He’s a gay man now.” The old order changes, and good riddance to those old farts who waged terror for far too long. Back in the sixties, priests used to wear top hats in the Manchester Whit walks.

Dermo’s problem is that he is long on analysis but short on action. He has criticised Maynooth severely, saying it has low academic standards, that its day is done, it has strange goings on, is like Downton Abbey (though he thinks the art is rubbish), he won’t send Dublin sems there and he doubts whether it meets the basic criteria of a Pontifical University.
Maynooth laughs off Dermo’s criticisms, knowing that he won’t actually do anything, despite being a Trustee and Visitor of the college, and despite being the Ordinary of the diocese in which Maynooth is located.
Dermo will huff and puff but he won’t blow the house down.

1960’s seminarian: gentleman-esque, in a a socially superior way. Totally unsuited to Christo-centric discipleship.

Will it EVER be got right?😕

The majority of the seminarians I know and have met are false, fictitious and nauseatinglynarcissistic.
If you want ‘posing’ and ‘attention,’ dressing-up as a priest, but not behaving like one, then go join the theatre or get yourself sectioned in a psychiatric institution.
The damage some of these unhinged, self-imaged fruitcakes will and are causing to the faithful is blasphemous and sadistic.
Just look at Paul Farrer from Middlesborough. He has has managed, singlehandedly, fully compromise Fr Fieldhouse from st Luke’s, Arch Malcolm, Precious Preston (who was dragged out of Liverpool Archdiocese and thrown into prison at Osssycotty) and, the WHOLE of the Middlesborough, Liverpool and possibly Birmingham Safeguarding departments. Including ruining numerous sincere Vocations and, almost the death of a vulnerable adult with learning difficulties.
But yes, it’s business as usual in hope all will all fade away….. WELL, THIS IS JUST THE ‘WARM-UP’ BEFORE THE ENSEMBLE BEGINS ! ! ! and it is going to be a beautiful piece, I can tell you 😊

Pat, would any of your gentle readers happen to have, perhaps hidden and forgotten in the leaves of a long since abandoned breviary or prayer book, one of Fanny’s wee holy prayer cards that she designed and printed to mark her elevation to the dignities of lector, acolyte, candidacy? They would be worth an small fortune on eBay. You’re talking in the realms of a penny black stamp; or a pair of Polly the Pryer’s pastel panties.

Your mention of a breviary reminds me that John-Paul Sheridan (now on the staff) was awarded the Tom Clancy Sincerity Prize for a poem in 3D.
JPS observed that he was rarely invited to tea by other students but, when one of his tears fell on the thin leaves of his breviary in Joe’s Oratory, he realised that he was lonely but not alone.

Bishop Pat, I hope you don’t think I’m rude asking you this, but I’m curious about the ecclesiology of independent churches.
Do you believe that you hold a greater claim to the episcopacy than other bishops, or, alternately do you believe there is some kind of hierarchy that you fit into ,made up of both independent bishops and institutional bishops?
Finally, in light of your answer to my question, where would you place yourself alongside Bishop Sean Manchester of the Old Catholic Church and Bishop Richard Williamson, Bishop of Broadstairs?

Like

Of course you are not rude. Very pertinent questions.
I see the episcopate as a development of the role of overseer or senior elder in the ancient Christian community. It took on very regrettable aspects of social grandeur in the middle ages and indeed was woefully abused in Rome itself. The independent epicopacy is itself very open to abuse. In the end its all about service and ministry with the bishop being the leader of the community. The current Roman episcopate is about wealthy bachelors (sometimes) living in palaces and wielding power. I am a bishop with no power.

Pat that’s Fintan’s seminarian, David Dysky. Pat did Fintan make any reply to your concerns or Iggy. Don’t bother contacting Michael Collins he is too busy planning his exit strategy to leave Priesthood. The Donal O’Neill strategy, pretend to be holy and loyal to Maynooth then disappear with a new identity.

Like

Did you phone him. Fintan is either in denial or cover up like the David Dysky and Aidan O’Brien abuse case. The Public Interest demands Fintan to address his Diocese and come clean.

Guys remember the fight between Michael Byrne and Daniel Shields in the Gun Chapel practice with Liam Tracy. Byrne phoned Mullaney on his personal mobile, Mullaney came running out of his office and tackled Daniel over his failure to do what Byrne instructed. The above example is one of many occasions where Byrne controlled and summoned Michael Mullaney.

What on earth will Fanny do when she is landed back in the bog of Ballycahill Co Tipp and no kittens to tickle and play with anymore?

She is not rated as a Canon Lawyer and her homilies at the Christmas Carol Service last December revealed, without doubt, that she is a theological nincompoop. In fact, some of the bishops are furious with her.

Her role in Maynooth will soon come to an end. Perhaps she will open a cattery to occupy herself?

Who has actually made these allegations to the police? Nobody? If not, why not? We are told of one victim who now seems very confident of his sexuality and no qualms about going public. So if what is claimed happened to him at Maynooth did happen, then surely he is bound to report it. I think seminary life is pretty dysfunctional, but we are constantly being fired up to deal with an apparent imploding scandal somewhere, and then nothing happens. Now why is that?

Like

Pat please contact the following, Tom Surlis, Eamon Martin, DM, the Papal Nuncio, Irish Indo, Irish Times and have words with Fintan. Fintan failed yet agian to make a pubic statement on the exposed events. where is Paul Prior hiding this time.

Pat what action has Tom Surlis undertaken. Surlis is under severe threat from the abuse network. They are attempting to gather dirt on Tom then blackmail him. It’s amazing the length this Canon lawyer will go to protect the network and his kittens.

As to your points:
1. Yes, he should call for the closure of Maynooth. It has shown itself to be wholly inadequate in forming seminarians to be our future priests, and is a hot bed of salacious and questionable behaviours, which the Church formally and publicly says that it condemns.
2. Mullaney and Collins have presided over 1. and have by doing so shown themselves incapable of good governance and leadership. Yes, they should go.
3. The Irish College in Rome barely educates / forms Irish seminarians anymore – there are so few of them to go there these days – and is essentially a B & B or AirBnB for third world seminarians and priests looking for somewhere to live while they do studies in Rome. The building should be passed on to those who would make good use of it, or sold so that the money could be spent on developing more forward looking and appropriate ways of training future priests.
4. The Church has a clear teaching about sex and sexuality, and in essence it says that any sexual activity outside of marriage is morally wrong. In addition, it continues to place a mandatory requirement of celibacy on seminarians and priests. So, if it believes in these things (and it reiterates them often) then it needs to be true to its word and say clearly that sexually / homosexually active seminarians (and priests) should desist or be moved on. I have no problem with any sexual orientation, but if somebody is a seminarian or a priest, and isimplicitly and publicly saying that they accept the Church’s teaching about sexual activity, then it is not unreasonable for them to be required to live in practice this teaching. If the Church wants to change its teaching, then fine, but if it has a teaching then it should be observed. It’s called honesty and integrity.
5. Like many Church apparatchiks, + D Martin is scared of his own shadow and so careful not to contradict Church teaching, otherwise he will lose his job and his position and all the nice things that go with it. So, don’t expect any statement before he resigns. After that, with less to lose, he may well say something that is in contrast to the Church’s public teaching. All these people, in private, will tell you one thing. But, in public, they are always looking after their own interests and play the game of keeping quiet and not contradicting Church teaching. Until they are safe and can afford to do so. Sounds pretty cynical and lacking in integrity and honesty to me.

Sorry to disappoint you at 9.14 a.m. Your absolutist view of what you believe the church should teach suggests you are an adolescent dealing only in black and white categories, or else you are a hypocrite.
Later on today, the Holy Father will give permission for the ordination of married deacons in the Amazon region.
This means, if you were not already aware, that the link between priesthood and celibacy is not an essential one but rather, a limited historical one (for about half of the last 2,000 years).

Like

Pat, there is a greater chance of Coddle Martin, after he retires, going to serve in a shanty town in Latin America, or going as curate to Jobstown, than there is of him doing anything remotely like you have suggested. So that’s a great big massive ZERO. Coddle will waddle off into cosy retirement and he won’t give a rat’s ass about Dublin, Gaynooth, or anywhere else, except where he will be comfortable and well looked after.

Like

Very good article. There has been a known culture of grooming at seminaries all over the land and an apparent willingness to take advantage of vulnerable young men and then to recruit them into the continuing lineage of their ‘type’ for onward promotion to the top, where secrets can be kept and reputations preserved.
e.g One now deceased Cardinal said to a seminarian, ‘It is OK for you to have sex with me, it is God’s way of testing you to see if you are holy enough to become a priest. If you agree to have sex, God will approve..’
This has been allowed if not condoned for too long and any measures to redress the church’s problems with paedophilia has to start with seminaries.
Truth & Transparency have to be the watch words going forward and a return to personal accountability.
In this regard, whistle-blowing on inappropriate behaviour has to be enshrined in law and adopted by the church without equivocation and there may also be a requirement for each tutorial to be digitally audio and visually recorded to ensure compliance?
This would be the minimum standard to ensure compliance and a reasonably practicable solution in the circumstances.

The clerical world gets weirder and weirder. Do I infer correctly there has been trouble at mill in Valladolid. Is that still considered to be a major seminary? It’s loaded with cash going back to Philip II, which I imagine is tied up to its original purpose, so what to do with the place? Is Faraday-Cage part of St Luke’s Manchester? Why the hell would anybody go near any of these people and places? Questions which never get answered.

The Catholic Church has become incapable of making moral judgments. Instead it hides behind its self-assured certainty on one issue:

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2020/feb/11/rhode-island-richard-bucci-priest-abortion

Do we want to be part of an organization which thinks abuse of children outside the womb doesn’t really matter as long as we prioritize the rights of a cluster of cells which in up to 25% of cases can result in a miscarriage? I am NOT arguing about abortion, but pointing to the obscenity of an organization which uses its opposition to abortion as a moral trump card. Vile.

Like

The priest was absolutely wrong about paedophilia not killing anyone. He needs a kick in the ass. Likewise do you at 7:51pm with your nonsense that the child in the womb is “a clump of cells”.

Like

NB @8:20pm you deliberately change my wording, and show yourself complicit in Catholic propaganda. How do you dispute my comment that a foetus in its early stages of development is a cluster of cells? How do you distinguish a miscarriage from a child? Perhaps you don’t; whereas I would. On what grounds then do you think I need a kick in the ass? Who is speaking nonsense?

Like

At 9:20pm, you’re too stupid to realise that you’re simply pushing abortionist propaganda. According to the “clump of cells” argument that’s all any of us are no matter what stage of development. Science proves that unique human life Is present from the moment of conception.

Like

@9:22 and @9:36 you both refute yourselves, so who is “stupid” or “ignorant”? As, I thought, though without hope or expectation, I had made clear, the argument is neither for nor against abortion, but about the Church’s manipulation of what -it thinks -is a moral absolute to exculpate itself from other crimes against humanity. Though Magna would, I think, disagree with me regarding abortion, he is probably one of the few posters intelligent enough to argue the point which you two clowns cannot grasp.
