VOTIVE MASS FOR ABUSED SEMINARIANS AND PRIESTS

ENTRANCE ANTIPHON: The Lord hears the cry of the poor. Blessed be the lord.

Opening Prayer:

Let us pray:

O God, who has led your people with good and noble pastors we pray today for all those seminarians and priests who have been abused in any way. In their distress lead them to call upon you and to believe that you will heal all their wounds through Christ Our Lord. Amen.

FIRST READING: Jeremiah 12: 1 – 3

Those who abuse priests and seminarians.

You are always righteous, LORD, when I bring a case before you. Yet I would speak with you about your justice: Why does the way of the wicked prosper? Why do all the faithless live at ease? 2You have planted them, and they have taken root; they grow and bear fruit. You are always on their lips but far from their hearts. 3Yet you know me, LORD; you see me and test my thoughts about you. Drag them off like sheep to be butchered! Set them apart for the day of slaughter! The word of the Lord.

PSALM:

Response: Out of the depts I cry to you O Lord.

Out of the depths I have cried to You, O Lord.
Lord, hear my voice!
Let Your ears be attentive
To the voice of my supplications.
If You, [a]Lord, should mark iniquities,
O Lord, who could stand?
But there is forgiveness with You,
That You may be feared.

I wait for the Lord, my soul does wait,

And [b]in His word do I hope.
My soul waits for the Lord
More than the watchmen for the morning;
Indeed, more than the watchmen for the morning.

O Israel, hope in the Lord;
For with the Lord there is lovingkindness,
And with Him is abundant redemption.
And He will redeem Israel
From all his iniquities.

SECOND READING: Hebrews 10: 32 – 36

A call to perseverance

Remember those earlier days after you had received the light, when you endured in a great conflict full of suffering.  Sometimes you were publicly exposed to insult and persecution; at other times you stood side by side with those who were so treated.  You suffered along with those in prison and joyfully accepted the confiscation of your property, because you knew that you yourselves had better and lasting possessions. So do not throw away your confidence; it will be richly rewarded.

You need to persevere so that when you have done the will of God, you will receive what he has promised. For,

“In just a little while,
he who is coming will come
    and will not delay.”

And,

“But my righteous one will live by faith.
 And I take no pleasure
in the one who shrinks back. But we do not belong to those who shrink back and are destroyed, but to those who have faith and are saved.. The word of the Lord.

GOSPEL ACCLAMATION:

Alleluia, Alleluia,

Give the me the man who stands firm when trials come.

Alleluia.

GOSPEL Matthew 5: 1- 12

True and false prophets.

Now when Jesus saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, and he began to teach them.

He said:

“Blessed are the poor in spirit,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.
  Blessed are those who mourn,
 for they will be comforted.
Blessed are the meek,
for they will inherit the earth.
Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness,
 for they will be filled.
Blessed are the merciful,
for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are the pure in heart,
for they will see God.
Blessed are the peacemakers,
for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness,
for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

“Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

The Gospel of the Lord.

PRAYERS OF THE FAITHFUL:

  1. Lord, we remember the church you founded which has been spoiled over many generations by men who did not have true faith in you. We ask you, Lord, to send your Holy Spirit as you did on the first Pentecost and bring your people once again out of human slavery into the freedom of the sons and daughters of God. Lord hear us.
  • Lord, we pray for all those seminarians and priests all over the world who are being abused, whether sexually, mentally, emotionally, at the hands of those men who are supposed to form them in your likeness. Free those seminarians from every tyranny as your freed your people from Egypt. Lord hear us.
  • Lord, take the hard hearts out of bishops and other members of the Catholic hierarchy and give them hearts of flesh, so that they might cease to abuse all those subject to them. Lord, protect your people from all wolves in sheep’s clothing. Lord hear us.
  • Lord, we pray for those seminarians and priests who have been led astray by others and have adopted a lifestyle incompatible with your teaching and the dignity of man and woman kind. Lord, help them to find you again in prayer and faith. Lord hear us.
  • Lord, we pray all seminaries throughout the world. We ask you to free these seminaries from the spirit of evil and sin that has enveloped them as a result of false teachings and unfaithful formators. Lord, cleanse the seminaries as you cleansed the Temple. Lord hear us.

PRAYER OVER THE GIFTS:

Look, O Lord, upon the offerings which we bring before you in faith and love. We pray today for all abused seminarians and priests and we ask you to make your pastors holy in your sight. Amen.

COMMUNION ANTIPHON:

“The disciples went forth and preached God’s Word to all.

PRAYER AFTER COMMUNION:

O God, Father of all who makes us sharers in the One Bread and the one Spirit, look upon the abuse suffered by all those who you have called to serve you. Free them from their oppression O Lord and lead them on the path that leads to you. Amen.

Is the Institutional Church not guilty of systemic behaviour incompatible with the teachings of Christ,
including lust, rape, abuse, violence, destroying lives of vulnerable people, covering up, retraumatizing victims,, lies in the service of covering up,… etc..?
How many Masses do some of these individual’s need to attend before the penny drops?
What difference has all the Masses, recitation of the office, prayers, and attendance at other religious ceremonies made, as well as years of supposed education? So much for their “wisdom’.
Their clerical fraternity comes first, not the Gospel. That’s the problem.

Nice prayers but mass aint magic.
Where is the practical application. If we are fed by word and Sacrament what are we doing to burn up the nourishment hi.

Pat I think Bishop Dennis Brennan in Ferns Diocese is going to be 75 in June. Who do people feel would be contenders to replace him. Anyone think it might be someone currently in the Diocese?.

It’s obvious, unless you’re as thick as champ. The nuns talk about renewal and finding afresh the charism of their founder. In the case of the Sisters of Mercy that seems to involve closing convents, which is a curious form of renewal.

“Why do the wicked prosper?”
Down and Connor diocese would do well to reflect on this piece of scripture. Truly they are wolves on Sheeps clothing with many of their priests living double lives. Some of them don’t care that much that they are now like wolves in the attire of wolves because they think they are untouchable. The RCC makes me sick to the very pit of my stomach and yet the sheep continue to follow and defend these gangsters. Before any of you enablers revert to type and say this is faux outrage, think again. This is a sincere and true description of the RCC mob

10.49: Just a reminder: enablers if all kinds are reprehensible. You, sir, are an enabler of hatred towards clergy. All very counterproductive. Hatred never achieves anything, enabler!!

Am I missing something? Why is the mass for seminarians and priests who have been abused? Why isn’t it for all those who have been abused , particularly those who were/ are abused but seminarians and priests.

Like

12.10: You ain’t missing anything. Just accept Pat’s noble and laudable mass and prayers. Don’t misconstrue anything other than what is intended. We are all deserving of prayer and support.

Like

I understand that those seminarians and priests who have been abused are deserving of our prayers. I still think the, suggested Mass, being offered tomorrow should be offered for all abuse victims – we are all called to serve. Yes, by all means have specific prayers addressing the issue of abused seminarians etc. but offer the mass for all of those who have suffered abuse at the hands of the church.
In the current climate it’s insensitive to offer this particular mass for those, that a significant number of people, would perceive to be perpetrators rather than victims.

Like

12.46: There is nothing insensitive whatsoever about Pat offering such a mass for seminarians and priests and he is to be commended for doing so. You are talking nonsense. I’m quite certain that Pat, as other clergy have done, has offered many masses and prayers for all abuse survivors. I do it frequently as do many of my colleagues. I also pray for all who are abused in many different ways in our society – domestically, racially, sexually, physically, emotionally, spiritually. Abuse is a constant in our society. And I pray too for all who are falsely accused. Pat is entitled to offer mass for whatever intentions he desires and I am inspired by this mass and the beautiful prayer intentions. Nothing insensitive whatsoever.

Pat have you come across the American Seminarian who has visited Dublin this past week and is now in Belfast touring. It’s not so much the sightseeing he’s into but touring the gay bars and the saunas including boilerhouse and “at it” with anyone and everyone. He seemingly likes the darkrooms. The clergy have been on their phones chattering about it. He is supposed to be a blonde blue eyed Adonis in his late teens. I’m intrigued as to the identity of the young clergy who have been hosting him North and South, a clique who are well known to each other. They’ve been showing this drop dead gorgeous thing the sights as it were. Has he made his way to Larne yet?

You should keep your gossiping mouth shut. The lad is here to visit relatives and for you to infer anything gay related is despicable you moron. It’s people like you who are only out to blacken people’s reputations and sow discord. Tramp.

More fantasy. One of those you mentioned, without giving your own name, has made a free choice. All of it is none of your business. More power to him.

+Pat I’ve a lot of respect for you as a person and a bishop.
I’d like to know what exactly we need an ordained priesthood for?
Jesus would think the concept alien. So why was it invented?
Is sitting around our own kitchen table with a batch loaf and Mateus Rosé not enough to replicate Jesus at the cedar table?

1.51: You plonker: You obviously don’t understand what the Mercy Sisters mean by renewal. Do you expect a group of elderly sisters to dwell in large buildings that are not now suitable for their needs? Also, the Mercy Sisters are helping their asdiciates imbibe the spirit of their Foundress with many wonderful outreach programmes and opportunities given to hundreds to carry on their good work. May I recommend that you take a look at what the Presentation Sisters have done with the Nano Nagle Centre in Cork. Look, listen and you’ll know what “renewal” means, nit just fir the Sisters but for the many associates who are keeping the spirit of Nano Nagle alive.

Pat. A few months ago several followers came on here about a certain young Priest from Blackpool, Lancaster Diocese who was into the Latin Mass. Well I had reason to go there recently for a funeral of a friend. I couldn’t believe my eyes. Dressed in black vestments and a black beretta and not even 30 years old. Is this the future of the Diocese and the RC Church? What is wrong with these people? Apparently he is also trying to raise money to have the altar in his Church moved so he can say Mass with his ass to the people. It’s a BIG no from me I am afraid. One elderly lady told me that several of them had written to the Bishop (Paul Swarbrick according to their website) who never replied. Surprise surprise.

Like

The elderly lady should focus her attention on her failure to hand on the Faith. I bet her children are lapsed and her grandchildren are unbaptised.

The poor, uneducated, moronic Amazons: imagine hankering after thieves to be in your home?😕

Maynooth Seminary Council, Bishop Fiantan, Eamon Martin and yes even tradtional Fr Iggy have all facilitated in empowering Maynooth Abusers, empowering them by failing to do the moral act of reporting then to State Authorities. Eamon and Fintan received multiple detailed reports from many varied sources and yet no action, no statement and no proff of informing state authorities both side of the Border.
