FRENCH PRIEST JAILED FOR 5 YEARS FOR ABUSE.

A French priest has been jailed for five years for sexually abusing dozens of children in the 1970s, 1980s and early 1990s.


Bernard Preynat, 74, admitted abusing boy scouts while a scout leader in Lyon.
During his trial, he had told the court he had not understood how serious or grave his crimes were.


“It took me time to learn it was wrong and condemned given the age of the children,” he said in January.


Preynat assaulted at least 80 young boys between the ages of seven and 15. Ten of his victims testified at the four-day trial.
The abuse took place between 1971 and 1991.


Prosecutors sought an eight-year jail term, and accused Preynat of “shattering” his victims’ lives.


Last July, Mr Preynat was defrocked – stripped of his clerical status – after a church tribunal ruled he had committed “criminal acts of sexual character against minors under [the age of] 16”.


Representatives of victims also accused Preynat’s superior, Philippe Barbarin, of covering up the abuse.


Mr Barbarin, who became archibishop of Lyon in 2002, was originally handed a six-month suspended sentence in March 2019 for not reporting Preynat’s crimes, but this conviction was overturned by an appeals court in January.


At the time his lawyer hailed the verdict, saying the court had judged “the cardinal never intended to obstruct justice”.


Mr Barbarin has admitted he had known of “rumours” about Preynat as far back as 2010, but that he only became aware of abuse after a conversation with a victim in 2014. He later informed the Vatican of the allegations, and removed Preynat from his position – but never informed police.


The allegations then became public in 2015.
Pope Francis accepted Mr Barbarin’s resignation earlier this month.

Masses where possible are live streamed for our parishioners. Yesterday I sat in our Church on a few occasions and nany, many parishioners called in. I was amazed. Some wanted to chat, some asked for confession, some for a blessing. People are genuinely concerned. St. Patrick, pray for our nation. Pray too for the many who are still minimising this dreaded virus, as on this blog. Bless all our medical, health care and frontline staff, including our priests. Bless the very vulnerable sick, lonely and housebound. Today should b a day for all Christians to pray and be kind, caring, supportive, a day to do some kind act for others. It is a more gracious and life affirming attitude to have than the cynical opportunism to attack the church. God be with us on St. Patrick’s Day.

One C-of-E church, St Helen’s Bishopsgate, usually has a congregation of several hundred at their services.
However, so as to reduce the infection risk they’e now going to be live-streaming the Services, starting with today’s Ipm Tuesday Lunchtime Service, just 15 minutes away.
The preacher will be the Rector, Rev William Taylor, and the text will be Psalm 23 which promises God’s presence with us even as we β€˜walk through the valley of the shadow of death’; He is with us, He will lead us, we shall β€˜dwell in the house of the Lord forever’.

A Polish archbishop has reassured churchgoers that β€œChrist does not spread germs” and that they can therefore continue practising their faith as usual, including using holy water and taking communion.

Other senior church figures have, however, urged the faithful to change their habits in response to the coronavirus epidemic, and many Catholics in Poland have been using other methods to fulfil their worship obligations.

In a letter to parishioners, Archbishop Andrzej DziΔ™ga, the metropolitan bishop of Szczecin-KamieΕ„ diocese, used the famous words of Pope John Paul II, β€œDo not be afraid”, to tell the faithful not to fear taking water from the font, Onet reports.

β€œSatan is powerless in the face of this clear and unambiguous human testimony of faith,” the archbishop wrote. β€œThere is a reason why it is said that somebody is afraid like the devil of holy water…Do not be afraid to reach with faith for the holy water…Do not be afraid of the church.”

The archbishop also noted that the faithful had the right to request communion β€œin the hand”, rather than directly in the mouth, but asked that they refrain from doing so and continuing receiving it on the tongue as is more usual.

β€œBefore our eyes, a tiny virus in a crown is causing even the greats of this world to fall into terror, those who just a moment ago were ready to fight with God and His Laws. Yet God is above the virus. Christ does not spread germs or viruses. Christ hands our purity and Life, and restores health,” he wrote.

The church has given out mixed messages since the beginning of the coronavirus crisis, and attracted criticism for downplaying the seriousness of the epidemic as well as for its refusal to cancel masses. Whereas churches have closed in Italy, and the Catholic church in England has announced that it is preparing to suspend services, its Polish counterpart decided to increase the number of services in order to reduce average attendance at each.

Archbishop StanisΕ‚aw GΔ…decki, the president of the Polish Episcopal Conference, said that β€œchurches are something like hospitals for the soul”, an image previously used by Pope Francis. He words were echoed by JarosΕ‚aw Gowin, a deputy prime minister, who supported the episcopate’s decision to keep churches open.

Meanwhile, the Archbishop of CzΔ™stochowa described the coronavirus as just β€œanother type of flu”, declaring that wars and β€œgender ideology” are greater threats to civilisation. The Salesian Order in WrocΕ‚aw apologised after a priest was reported as saying during mass that β€œcoronavirus is punishment for the sins of abortion and homosexuality” and β€œonly prayer can protect people”, not masks or sanitisers.

Yet as Sunday approached, parts of the church changed their approach. Some Catholic orders, including the Dominicans, closed churches and cancelled masses, saying they could not comply with the ban on public gatherings exceeding 50 people introduced by the government on Friday. The basilica in Bydgoszcz started providing holy water in individual bottles as well as a hand-sanitising spray.

On Saturday, Archbishop GΔ…decki himself urged the faithful to make use of a dispensation to excuse them attending Sunday Mass, suggesting that they should take the opportunity to participate in services on television and online, reported Onet.

Archbishop Wojciech Polak, the primate of Poland, also said that habits needed to change. Appearing on TVN, he said, β€œIt is about health and safety. It is about us not infecting each other, breaking this epidemiological chain that exists.”

State television last night showed that many parishioners had indeed stayed away from churches, broadcasting images of empty pews and families gathering around televisions to watch mass from home, as well as one priest driving through the streets performing a mobile ceremony

5:20 actually Bishop Buckley has gone straight to the heart of the main problem with Christian theology, and I am afraid that saying that God is in caring people isn’t good enough, because it implies that God has allowed the coronavirus as a test or opportunity, to show what people will do.
I really hope you are not a hospital chaplain because you would fail the first time someone asked you why God allowed them to get cancer, or said they were angry at God because fatally ill.
The problem is that if God is all knowing, all powerful etc, it means he has some purpose for allowing a virus which he could well stop, and that isn’t exactly compassionate, is it.
Or are you one of those people who think AIDS (despite the vast majority of infections being through heterosexual intercourse) is God’s punishment on gays?

We are ineed, Bishop P., entitled to discuss why God didn’t stop Coronavirus in its tracks.

I addressed, on a previous blog, the timeless conundrum of human suffering vis a vis the existence of a supposedly loving, all-powerful God. Well, guess what? The song is a loada caca: God does NOT have EVERYthing under control. The Rev William McCrae was singing sweet nothings to his listeners.

One reason God does not have everything under control (think of child abuse by dirty Romanist parasites, like the French guy above, and think of those other clerics who aided and abetted him) is that our hearts and heads are not truly turned towards God, despite what we self-proclaim. That priest, and his enabling fellow clerics (in fact, ALL Romanist parasites) are not truly walking in Christ’s footsteps: their loyalty is to a historically corrupt institution through which great evil, not God, has entered the world. If these men were truly that silly word Gerry McGinnity attributed to them, β€˜Christmenβ€™πŸ˜…, they would have been moved by mercy and justice to protest openly and publicly the evil that they know is coming through their church, right from the papacy, through the rest of the episcopate, right down to the possible kiddie-fiddler in a parish. But they kept their heads down. Terrible things happen to kids, to others, to the world, because terrible people will them and allow them. God’s hands are then tied by selfish choices.

The RCChurch is unquestionably a source of malevolence in this world. Even now, with apparent attempts to stem its flow, such measures that have been put in place have occurred only through public pressure, not through counsel of conscience. This institution is evil, because the parasites who serve it have made selfish and cowardly choices, the principal one being the ordination vow or promise, not to Christ, but to another cleric.

Now sit back and listen while these parasites defend their evil choices, and their tying God’s hands in his efforts to help humanity.

I hear on the news that in England and Wales the bishops are still discussing their response to coronavirus, and this on the day that the C of E, the Muslim Council of Britain, and other churches have cancelled all public worship events on health advice, and the Government is putting in place stringent social isolation measures. What planet do our dear bishops live on ? Honestly, they are a useless lot. Up their own backsides, not a clue about life and the world. And, some dioceses are still advertising Lourdes pilgrimages, even though Lourdes itself is now closed ! I despair ! It makes the Church look stupid, which probably is true given all that they have failed on over the decades.

It is not a question of deserving Coronavirus, or anything else for that matter. That suggests moral naughtiness, which is being punished.

I prefer to speak in terms of consequence. For example, If I choose to stick my hand in an open fire, I’ll be burned, not as a punishment, but as a consequence of my choice.

When the world loses sight of its Creator, it loses sight not only of his beauty and bounty, but also of his power to protect us from harm. We then endure what we endure, not as punisment, but as the consequence of our choice to forego that protection. 6.55: Don’t misread my comments. I cannit answer the theological complexities of suffering, illness or viruses. The presence if these is chalkenging in every way. I have been asked the “why” cancer, suffering, pain by 2 sisters who died of cancer and a 3rd now quits sick with it. I did however offer them the comfort of God’s love through the Eucharist. I do not speak the flippant response – “offer it up” to anyone suffering serious, inoperable illnesses. I accompany people and I have had the privilege of simply sitting with people in their dying days. Dark moments and inexplicable illnesses give us the opportunity to be with each other in our struggles. And, I do not believe in a capricious God. I have tremendous respect and tolerance for gay people. Many of my friends are gay and I have officiated at funerals of gay people, not many but I have done so. I also baptised the children of gay couples. We may spend all of life seeking answers to complex questions. What matters now is that we behave and act in God’s expectations of us towards one another.
