Abuse victims NORTHERN IRELAND – data breach could cost £2.5m in damages

A serious data breach involving victims of historical institutional abuse could potentially result in compensation claims running into millions of pounds, a legal source has said.
Concerns were raised after the details of 250 people, including abuse victims, were leaked on Friday in an email error from the office of Brendan McAllister.
A victims’ group and several political leaders have already called on Mr McAllister, the interim Advocate for Victims and Survivors of Historical Institutional Abuse, to step down immediately.

it’s very unfortunate that victims data has been accidentally released.

It does seem like a resigning matter to me.

The leak will cause a lot of distress to some and less to others- especially those who have already been open about their abuse.

Oh, well, if that is the case and his minions are surveilling what is said here, pass this on, please:

+ Nichols, please resign in a few months when you reach 75 and disappear from view in to genteel retirement. You have increasingly presented yourself as an operator who is constantly weighing up what is to your advantage, and how to present a message so that it benefits you and yours, as we have seen on so many occasions. The classic example was your trading the LGBT mass for a red hat. Your catch up on appreciating / understanding the damage of abuse is not convincing, and even though you say you have caught up and ‘got it’ your body language and tone suggest that you are still somewhat bemused about what all the fuss is about ! Your clergy do not particularly like you, you are cold, calculating and manipulative, and they know that except for a few favourites you would sell any of them down the river in order to better your advantage. Notwithstanding your moderated Scouse man of the people accent, you are really haughty and aloof, and constantly on the make, without much regard for loyalty, except to yourself and your current mates, which of course includes the nun. So, it is time for you to go and for someone else to take over. Please ! Surveillance monitors, please pass this on !

Just had a thought: + Nichols is a bit like the Dominic Cummings of the Church ! Nobody likes him for his arrogance and his aloofness, and his believing in himself as an exception to the rules…..

In May, to date, there were 39 visits from Vatican City. I’m sure Bishop Tighe is a fan.

But sadly a lot of the people on the blog make accusations without proof and please trust me the Bishops of Ireland do take notice of what comes into them but the problem is proof.

And given the facts as you know only too well because of Daly things lead to litigation in the courts and of course in cleric’s lead to canon Law.

I hope if Bishop Tighe arrives at Drumcondra he makes you welcome but really whoever comes to Dublin has a big task in front of them.

Yes every organisation has it’s bad apples and they are not wanted however like yourself there is many Good Bishops and Clergy in the Catholic Church.

Excellency, there is quite an interest here in the Vatican with you and your blog. You even have an admirer or two here – who were very unhappy with your treatment here n March of 2019. Courtesy costs nothing. The man who interviewed you said he found you impressive and regretted his orders. May St Philip Neri bless you and your oratory.

Thank you Don Gaetano. The man who interviewed me was 100% respectful and graceful. He chatted away in a most friendly way and offered me cold water and tea. I’m sure there are kindly souls in the Vatican with their heads below all else.

Don Gaetano, I remember the wedding well and was looking at a photograph of it on Sunday which I had inserted into my marriage register. It was my first and only time in Switzerland. I stayed in Geneva and the other interesting thing I did was to have a Fondue in Bill Clinton’s favourite Fondue Restaurant there 🙂 Its a small world Gaetano. If I remember correctly, most of the people at the wedding were involved in the worldwide tobacco industry? I hope your nephew and his wife are doing well. Give them.my love.

I just learned that S. Neri is the secondary patron of Venice, on Traditio Marciana and even more detail on the Breviary site. Lovely Latin hymns. I’ve always loved his story but have become so cynical that I wonder about its veracity. Yet, Bishop Patrick’s style gives me hope.

I had absolutely no interest in going into the Vatican last March. I only went in because the priest I was with put me under pressure to accompany him to the tomb of John XX111. I will never go in again.

Neither of us was arrested. We were “detained”. Funnily, the Vatican had a 4 page print off about me, including my picture, but no record of the priest who was with me – who is a serving diocesan priest 🙂

Pat in order for you to be detained by any police force you have to be arrested. You would never have got out of Vatican territory if you didn’t follow the police guard or didn’t go to their police station as you say.

I really have a mental blockage about going to the Vatican ever again. Looking at it from St Peter’s Square gives me the shivers.
I have been to Arab countries and mosques in them. And of course I don’t approve of their attitude to woman and gay folk.

The Vatican State with its magnificent art, culture, history and architecture, when appreciated is inspiring. Our visit to the Vatican State is not an approval in any way of the horrendous abuses carried out and covered up. I am horrified by all of this but the historical and religious significance of St. Peter’s is very precious. You are a contradiction: You will obviously travel, if invited, to Muslim countries, despite their outrageous violations of human rights for women and gay people. Would you visit your local Mosque with the same disdain because of what their religion says? Would you travel to China with its abominable human rights record or to Russia or any communist regime with their dissidents are murdered? You are very selective….

The Vatican State and St Peter’s in a monument to 1700 years of corruption, murder, witch hunts, Crusades and Inquisition.
Of course it has historic and architectural significance – like Auschwitz concentration camp.
You can only find God in its victims and survivors.
I have never been invited to a Muslim country or to Russia. But I would go there out of interest.
For me, the Vatican stands as a monument of how Satan sidetracked Christ’s Kingdom.
I would indeed return to the lovely City of Rome again but will not enter the “Empire”.

Isn’t it interesting, the Vatican official had a photo and four page print off about you.
Fr. Maciel had a couple of women on the go, sexually abused his own son, abused numerous seminarians, complaints about the man reached the Vatican in the mid 1950s, yet he was wined, dined and publicly applauded in the company of the Pope.
Meanwhile, Uncle Ted was paying off all and sundry to keep ‘stum.’
Why were those mens photos not on wanted posters plastered around the Vatican?

To clarify. A young Vatican police officer indicated that my priest friend and I were to follow him. We were brought to a police office in the Vatican where we were given seats for an hour. I saw two police officers print 4 pages from a computer. I noticed my picture on one of those pages. When we were later brought to what seemed to be police HQ the senior police officer read many biographical details to me which were accurate.

Bishop Pat, you celebrated a lovely wedding for our family quite a few years ago in Paris. I was at your table and you entertained us all during the meal with your bon homie. It was at an old chateau with it’s own chapel the the grounds. If you remember, the groom was a senior lawyer for the Martell corporation and they threw the wedding party.

I do remember. It was actually the Remy Martin company I think? I was offered six bottles of wine to take home with me and declined the offer because of the hassle of carrying them. I was sorry afterwards when I saw the price of the wine in a Belfast wine merchant !

Downside has been feeling the pinch for some time now, they have been selling their art and property in recent years and it has been suggested that the monastry might close due to their dire financial situation.

Word in Westminster is that Elsie has dined with Dominic & Mary Cummings. That’s why Elsie they say and all other English RC bishops have remained totally silent on the whole Dominic Cummings issue. What’s his involvement with Elsie and Westminster. Cummings has no time for the C of E lot and secretly wants to get rid of the House of Bishops in the Lord. Dom Athelstan is keeping a low profile owing to totally unfounded speculations, and is currently in partibus infidelium, where he has been most warmly received. He hopes to return completely vindicated, but regards the entire EBC these days – in the words of the late great Terry-Thomas – as an absolute shower. His many friends and admirers hope to raise funds to house him more appropriately in the Traveller’s Club, where he might take over the former boot-room which Mgr Gilbey had converted into an Oratory.

People, myself included, visit this blog for the gossip and a morbid curiosity to see whose ‘getting it in the neck’ on any particular day.

Those people will make dozens of trips to see what’s happening, what’s being said about JP, Rory, Gorgeous, Kildorrery, Fanny, the Trolly Dolly, “Amy”, etc. etc.

They want a ring side seat at the slaughter and they want to have a good view of the guillotine.

On a “good” day, when it’s a real “juicy” report, such as JP Lyttle’s woes recently, the “traffic” will be huge and there will be lots of comments.

The more gory details the better, such as JP’ enjoying porn and a jolly good old wank.

People are drawn to this blog because sinful human nature loves a good gloat and a gossip and can’t resist driving slowly past a car crash. That’s why Buckley’s blog is popular.

Sadly, so long as it is not ourselves on the menu, we like to watch people being shredded, shamed and publicly dissected, by faceless cowardly people – some of them “priests”, who cannot be held to account for their words.

May God forgive and mercy on the lot of us!

Cardinal Nichols has a say on the appointment to Dublin not the Nuncio.
Three names go to Rome and the Congregation of Bishops recommend one to Pope Francis who appoints Bishops all over the World every second Saturday.
And it would be courteous of Bishop Paul Tighe to respect Bishop Buckley.
And really when people are facing death in the face send for a Priest and return home.

Glenstal: will always do OK because it’s the only classic Benedictine monastery in the country
Rostrevor: will depend on the unstable fate of the Olivetans.
Farnborough: the monks will disperse when fate catches up with Cuthy
Pluscarden: will be ok
Prinknash: no.
Ampleforth: will live off its numbers for a good while yet
Downside: will depend if novices stay
Buckfast: will carry on until the last monk dies because they’re loaded
Ealing: lol
Belmont: functioning but has never been rich
Worth: ageing community and will depend if novices stay
Quarr: has had a lot of conflict in the recent past but has good roots and will be OK if they focus

Glastonbury, of course! In my memory the last ( Titular ) Abbot of Glastonbury was Dom Rudisind Brookes of Downside. He was immortalized in a biography by Anthony Wheatley ( son of Denis ) “Father Dolly, the Guardsman Monk”. Rudi, himself, as I remember, claimed some connection with the Romanovs, but, according to Dom Aelred Watkin, his father was an English homosexual who had hastily retired to Capri. This was the old Downside: we shall not see its like again. In haste – in partibus infidelium – Dom Athelstan.

A very interesting, and, I think, accurate assessment of the Benedictines in the UK and Ireland. I am curious about how Ampleforth has managed to maintain its numbers. Admittedly, unlike Downside, say, which established Ealing and Worth, it has never split; even so most of the old boys must have died off, and I doubt it has received many novices who have remained – any more than the other houses. I agree Farnborough, Prinknash and probably Ealing are likely finished. God knows what attracts anybody to Buckfast and Belmont. The really interesting case is Downside itself, the senior EBC house, which once enjoyed a stellar reputation as a house of learning, and an astonishingly interesting and distinguished community. Once described by David Knowles as the Athens of English Catholicism, it now it houses barely a dozen mediocrities. No wonder Dom Athelstan is in no hurry to return!

Belmont has always had a reputation for being the least frosty of the EBC monasteries and for having a good community who do communicate with each other.
I forgot Chilworth – again it will depend but they did right to get out of that huge place in Ramsgate and Silverstream who will do OK because they have an audience of tridentinists.

There are copies of Fr Dolly the Guardsman Monk for sale on Amazon, eBay and abebooks if anyone wants to read it.
I see they’ve republished the Cracks in the Cloister series by ‘Br Choleric’, actually Dom Hubert Van Zeller. His caricatures are apparently clearly recognisable as Downside monks of the time.

Why no mention of Douai Abbey? They closed their school, giving the newly appointed lay headmaster no notice, and the former school was turned into apartments, with the Douai monks pocketing £7m.
They had an unpleased episode with Fr Terence.
The are ok vocations-wise and are nice enough, apart from the camp, bitchy ex-opera singer they ordained about 10 years ago.

I would be very interested ti discover more about Brendan McAllister’s relationship with the individuals/institutions involved in the ‘accidental leak’.
I ask because does this collapse any possibility of a criminal prosecution of these individuals/institutions??
