ST CLOUD DIOCESE TO PAY ABUSE VICTIMS $ 22.5 MILLION.

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Diocese of St. Cloud will pay sexual abuse victims $22.5 million and file for bankruptcy, according to a settlement agreement.
Terms of the agreement were announced Tuesday.

Some 70 victims say they were abused by 41 priests in cases that date back to the 1950s.

Attorney Jeff Anderson negotiated the settlement agreement and said it gives validation to the victims, some of whom Anderson first represented in lawsuits filed in the 1980s, the Star Tribune reported.

“Every single survivor with whom we worked has felt some measure of recovery of power by having come forward to share secrets,” said Anderson.

“We believe they have made the community safer because of it, and they have been a part of a massive cleanup of a massive coverup in the Diocese of St. Cloud. It has been a journey born of great tribulation.”

St. Cloud Bishop Donald Kettler said in a statement that he apologized on “behalf of the Church for the harm they (victims) suffered.” Kettler said he hoped the settlement will help heal the victims of abuse.
If the bankruptcy plan is approved, the St. Cloud Diocese will become the fifth of Minnesota’s six dioceses to settle its clergy abuse claims and declare bankruptcy.

A day after a Sartell man filed a lawsuit against the Diocese of St. Cloud, Bishop Donald Kettler has released the names of those accused of sexual abuse of minors.

The move comes as other Minnesota Catholic Dioceses and the Archdiocese of Minneapolis-St. Paul are dealing with similar disclosures or lawsuits to release similar lists of clergy members.

In a new release issued today, Kettler said:

When I became Bishop of the Diocese of St. Cloud, I immediately began connecting with the people, familiarizing myself with policies and reviewing important documents that I am responsible for as Bishop. It is my intent to continue to provide a pastoral response to such abuse. I hope that the release of these names will provide validation to those victims.

According to the Bishop’s release, at least seven of the clergy members are still living. Four of them in Collegeville, one in St. Cloud, one in the Twin Cities, and one in New York.

Bishop Kettler says he hopes the release of names will help victims.

It is my hope that the release of these names will provide validation to those victims who have been sexually abused and have already come forward. I pray it will also give strength to those who have remained silent and allow them to come forward.

The release also encourages anyone who may have been sexually-abused to contact a victim’s advocate.

Now that seems like a pastoral response Bishop Kettler. Well done!
Seperately, I was reminded of that hauntingly beautiful song by Gretchen Peters “On A Bus To St Cloud.” with the unforgettable lyric “And I wept in the arms of Jesus for the choices I’d made!” (Amen!)

Pastoral response by Kettler? You are naive, or perhaps the latest in a long line of cheerleaders/apologists for the institutional Church.

Kettler’s doicese has filed for bankruptcy to protect remaing assets, which are considerable. Kettler then expresses cod concern that his action (in military terms, a rearguard action: self-defensive in retreat) will encourage other, silent victims of abuse by priests in his diocese to come forward. 😕

The man is such a self-contradiction that someday he’ll lose sight of himself altogether: Who am I?

This is the inevitable outcome for men who cling to their ordination vows/promises to serve the interests of such a morally putrid institution as the Vatican.

Like

Indeed @4:17. Magna’s comment is an excellent perceptive analysis of the key motivational factor in most of the RC institutional response when legally cornered with irrefutable evidence of its failings.
Of course cathbots won’t like hearing this and, as @ 5:42, invariably mount ad hominem repetitious insults. It’s all, and the best, they can do.

The present generation of bishops are the fourth or fifth (third in a few rare places in England) generation since the pitch queering got entrenched. The RCC led the worldwide stampede to cease to teach the laity to pray (the televangelists merely copied the RCC). The bishops’ elbows get jogged by the people that get under their feet (like in Del Boy country).
The establishment has lost sight of the principle of principle. It’s not a matter of traditionalism because no-one knows what tradition was and no-one knows why it was wrong to have any. Oakley gives himself brownie points for being a “heresy hunter hunter”. That they don’t know what the heresies were isn’t their fault – only that they didn’t know they didn’t know.
John, Paul, JP II, and especially Big F, have enforced only rigid wishy washiness. Obedience should only apply if there is something worth obeying. (Pius we learned about the other week.) Benedict had Sodano and Bertone under his feet, so we can’t tell whether he really had turned coat (the incident with Schoenborn was like a hostage taking) (he did mutter about wolves but did we pray – were we ever taught to pray).
My family were on the fringe, since having “enquired” just before I was born. Green field dioceses – blue sky doctrines – white heat. We were told we were going to be told what the beliefs were going to be but we never have been. Sometimes, only the ghosts of beliefs. And no belief in Holy Ghost indwelling. Always punch pulling. I sought “catechesis” one time too many. Debriefing a la Dr Herman always gets sabotaged. I knew some years ago I should be warning others, but I didn’t have the mental stuffing.
We walked out of it – but did it walk out of us? I feel like Lot’s wife.
Vacant words echo through vacant years and vacant heads – who am I – who am I – who am I. If we are young and old fashioned we can take to the beer (like the lingering shots in the video). If we are middle aged and avant garde, the gin. If we are old and wish we had become individuals, the tea pot.

There is something shocking arising behind the subject of recent topics. But don’t guitar & piano go beautifully together.

It’s something that paradoxically wouldn’t work on the mainland because the RCC is too entrenched here (postcolonial caste system).

Where Roman prelates heads are on the block, the Devil will be raging with fits of anger! BEWARE, the devil is prowling your Diocese looking for a lamb to devour! Turn from your crooked ways! Bow down to Jesus and Him alone!
Do not be afraid! For the Spirit of truth will guide your conscience, He will help you EXPOSE this evil, in all its guises. It won’t be easy, but He will burdon some of your yoke… Remember when you are under attack, burdoned with His heavy cross, He is shouldering it with you; therefore, He is right at your side with His hand on your back.
Anyway, this guy, under attack, was given an external hard drive just before Christmas. He, being the geek he is, performed a deep platter/partition inspection on this device; the platter contained mosty ordinary stuff, but there was a video, hidden right at the bottom of the file list, of a toddler being interfered with. It was horrible, could’t stop crying. Wicked world we live in. He immediately called 999 and the Police came and collected this device. He of course, without so much as a heart beat, told the bobby who it was who had given him this device, he was really nice and comforting and he sent it off for analysis then destruction. The bobbies called the day before the Civil Court date to give me a bit of advice! advice which made think maybe they have ‘seen’ similar before. They told me to change my alarm code and to be alert when out and about and if I felt anything was not quite right to call them without hesitation.
By the way, the guy who had hacked my Whats app (pretending to be me), my iCloud p/w and email address p/w, I managed to get a few recordings of him boasting and giving himself away after he had been drinking. I wonder whether or not he still got got his doggy biscuits from his master?!? If he had recieved a downpayment, he could be in hot waters…
These recordings are duplicated tenfold and independent of any network access (with all the other stuff) and safe for posterity. Shorty after he realised he had been recorded admittng and boasting he bacame very unhappy. Aww, poor dear.
+Pat, these people are becoming increasingly agitated – and wreckless.
I had an unexpected knock on my door yesterday; I was told a particular person is extrememy ill with health, and that he believes “He is alot sicker than he is letting on” my reply was
“I totaly agree with your statement – in part!”
Take care and stay safe all. And keep the love flowing… It will come back to you TENFOLD! x

They are two lads in their twenties, would you rather them have skinheads and go round smashing up bus stops and joyridding round housing estates annoying us all. Or, would you rather these two young men be committed to the Lord, in their youth, and in a world that has lots of different paths to offer?
And if they still are ‘finding’ their footing in life with lessons to learn, is it not better they learn whilst walking alongside the Lord?
We don’t want our priests to be Saints, we want them to be normal human beings–and normal human beings make mistakes on the journey.
With exception to hurting others of course.

Abuse is abuse, and is criminal. So, go straight to the police. Make it so the first the clergy or bishop knows about it is a knock on the door from the police to investigate. Don’t give the clergy or bishops time to come up with all sorts of excuses and to collude over their stories and to destroy their files. Because that is what they do, in order to cover up their arses and protect their reputations.

@9.20 I agree with you, and it is most difficult when an abuser is dead because in effect there is no possible end to it.

Why are you preoccupied with sexual matters?
Why has sex such a high priority in your moral code?
Not too long ago, the recently ordained, had they been as morally inflexible and dogmatic as you appear, would have endorsed Church teaching on the death penalty, teaching that gravely contradicted Jesus’ words and example in the Gospel.
Why do sexual matters arouse such indignation in you, while the upholding of human life, in all its stages, matters so little to you (if at all)?
Are you externalising sexual guilt?

Nobody is answering my actual question which is in Christian sexual ethics when did promiscuity become OK?
Even if you were to say that (for example) gays were discriminated against and so are to be looked on differently now (a broadly liberal position taken by liberal Christian denominations) I’m finding it difficult to justify putting it about in Christian sexual ethics.
Yes, nobody is perfect and anyone can sin, but those considering being Christian leaders should surely consider where their sex life falls short and whether they should actually put themselves forward.
Surely any Christian who is actively promiscuous would see that at the very least as something to be put in order?
My point is the extreme gap between the ethics and the life lived – and that surely if the person does not address this themselves there is something very wrong?
