SILVERSTREAM MONASTERY – WHERE HAS ALL THE MONEY GONE TO ???

A source close to the Monastic Visitation currently being conducted into Silverstream Monastery says the monastery has only enough money to survive for weeks.

But look at these published figures from the Irish Charity Regulator’s site – for 2015, 2015 2016, 2017 and 2018.

In those 5 years the monastery income was Euro 4,065,899.

Their expenditure for the 5 years was Euro 1,696,825

Therefore their profit was Euro 2,369,074.

And this does not include income for 2019 and 2020 which on average would have been Euro 1,626,359.

So income for 7 years was Euro 6,434,973.

Expenditure for 7 years Euro 2,375,555

Total Profit for 7 years Euro 4,059 418

If Silverstream has made Euro 4 million profit in 7 years why are they now broke?

Who spent the 4 million?

What was the 4 million spent on.

I was surprised to hear that they have wine at every lunch and dinner 7 days a week.

Could 8 monks spend 4 million on food and drink in 7 years?

That would be Euro 11,000 plus a week on food and drink?

I wonder how much the monthly and yearly wine bill was?

I have learned that Silverstream has not only been reported to the Gardai but also the Irish Charity Regulator, who are launching an investigation.

Where there is sexual irregularities there are generally financial irregularities also.

One source has told me that Mark Kirby kept a drawer in his office with many thousands of Euros in cash in it?

TOM DENNIHAN of Meath needs to clarify where the Euro 4 million has gone to.

This is money that the Catholic faithful have donated thinking everything was ok.

You can see the wine in this video, from around 9:40. It looks like ordinary supermarket wine (Gallo?). Fr Prior has his own bottle but they seem to be drinking out of used jam jars, so a bit more digging is needed to find the missing millions.

They’d have to be uncommonly gullible, then. How many families can afford to live in the rarified world of wine with meals?

Like

@4:19 – do you drink out of a jam jar? They are suggesting that the win was donated, or a special occasion, but they are so dirt poor they cannot afford glasses. They are having a laff.

A totally sanitised, romanticised, fantasised picture of monastic life. The ‘gentle and wise’ abbot, explaining, gesticulating, teaching…all a charade. And those others: did you notice how often they smiled? Not often. What lugubrious faces! I suppose this is what comes of liturgical rigidity.
There is no joy obvious in that place. They couldn’t manage even to fake it for a 14 minute video.

The person attacking the only form of Mass all the Irish Saints knew said that the money went on Mass supplies, as if the Mass was more costly. I was pointing out that the Novus Ordo crowd misspend far more, including on Francis’s gas-guzzling trips.

Like

Um, Jesus didn’t know the form of Mass that all those Irish ‘saints’ knew either. Does this matter to you?

Like

4.45

Your ‘theology’ is heretical. Jesus was not present at ‘every one’ of those Masses, because this implies that there is more than one Mass, which in turn suggests that Jesus must sacrifice himself for human redemption, again and again; this is an outright denial of 1 Peter 3: 18.

When Mass today is said, we, as it were, tap into the transcendent nature of that first and only historical Mass 2000 years ago. But were we to do so, faithfully, it should not liturgically be the ‘Extraordinary Form’ offered, nor the ‘Ordinary Form’, but the ritual manner in which it took place back then. And the language of worship would be Hebrew and Aramaic, not English, and certainly not Latin.

Like

Jesus did know that form of Mass because he was present at every one in the Holy Sacrifice.

I realise that many of the seminary rejects on the blog were ejected before they got to studying dogma and theology, so here’s a little primer, from the Catechism of the Catholic Church, quoting the infallible teachings of the Council of Trent.

1366 The Eucharist is thus a sacrifice because it re-presents (makes present) the sacrifice of the cross, because it is its memorial and because it applies its fruit:

[Christ], our Lord and God, was once and for all to offer himself to God the Father by his death on the altar of the cross, to accomplish there an everlasting redemption. But because his priesthood was not to end with his death, at the Last Supper “on the night when he was betrayed,” [he wanted] to leave to his beloved spouse the Church a visible sacrifice (as the nature of man demands) by which the bloody sacrifice which he was to accomplish once for all on the cross would be re-presented, its memory perpetuated until the end of the world, and its salutary power be applied to the forgiveness of the sins we daily commit.

1367 The sacrifice of Christ and the sacrifice of the Eucharist are one single sacrifice: “The victim is one and the same: the same now offers through the ministry of priests, who then offered himself on the cross; only the manner of offering is different.” “And since in this divine sacrifice which is celebrated in the Mass, the same Christ who offered himself once in a bloody manner on the altar of the cross is contained and is offered in an unbloody manner. . . this sacrifice is truly propitiatory.”

Are you addressing my post at 4.05? You don’t indicate any post, so we are left having to assume one poster or another. It is always helpful to be express in this matter, and to be specific. For arguments sake, I’ll assume that you were indeed addressing my post at 4.05. And I’ll overlook that cheapshot of yours about seminary rejects
I’d bet you figured that qualifying ‘teaching’ adjectivally with ‘infallible’ would pre-empt all further discussion on the ontological nature of Mass. This was your trump card, wasn’t it? Instead, you played a busted flush: bullshit is never infallible.
The Eucharist does not, and cannot, make present the sacrifice of Jesus on the Cross, since this was a concrete event, fixed behavioually in human history (unless time travel was discovered while I was looking the other way). However, what we can do at Mass is unite to that historical event through its transcendent, universal efficacy, a very different, not to mention more logical, act altogether.
Jesus was not a priest. Nor did he refer to himself in any such way. The title ‘priest’ used of Jesus is entirely a theological attribution. On the contrary, the Letter to the Hebrews makes clear that Jesus’ self-offering exposed the utter futility of priestly ‘atonement’; his self-offering, therefore, rendered priesthood absolutely redundant.
Jesus does not offer himself perpetually through the ministry of priests, since this self-offering was, as I said earlier, made concrete in human history; it occurred, therefore, just once, because once was sufficient, as 1 Peter 3: 18 makes clear. To claim that this act is continually, for all time, made through the ministry of priests is to imply either that the act is a work in progress (we are not yet redeemed), or that it must be repeated an infinite number of times. Every day, in fact.
As I said, too, ‘bullshit is never infallible’.

You don’t believe the form of the Mass in Ireland of the first Christian millennium was identical to the post-Tridentine missal of 1570?

Like

@2:44, yes, an Irish Christian from the first millennium would have no difficulty in recognising the Mass celebrated according to the codification of the Missal in 1570. It was not a new Mass, unlike Paul VI’s invention.

“The Order of Mass as found in the 1570 Missal of St. Pius V (1566-1572), apart from minor additions and amplifications, corresponds very closely with the Order established by St. Gregory (d. 604 A.D.).” (Davies)

“All later modifications were fitted into the old arrangement, and the most important parts were not touched. From, roughly, the time of St. Gregory we have the text of the Mass, its order and arrangement, as a sacred tradition that no one has ventured to touch except in unimportant details [until the Second Vatican Council].” (Fortescue)

“Essentially, the Missal of Pius V is the Gregorian Sacramentary; that again is formed from the Gelasian book, which depends on the Leonine collection. We find the prayers of our Canon in the treatise De Sacramentis [of St. Ambrose, c. 340-397] and allusions to it in the IVth century. So our Mass goes back, without essential change, to the age when it first developed out of the oldest liturgy of all.” (Fortescue)

There were Irish priests long before Pope Gregory the Great, and therefore long before his codification (his attempt at uniformity) of the Mass. Clearly then, not every Irish monk would have recognised the Tridentine Mass, either in form or language.

Like

An Irish monk certainly wouldn’t recognise Paul’s New Mass. The difference is that until after Vatican II the Roman Rite had grown organically, its fundamentals unchanged and recognisible down the centuries. The Novus Ordo is a rupture, a rushed committee job, rejected by the majority of the faithful in the European heartlands of the Roman Rite, who have voted with their feet.
Beware antiquarianism.

As for abortion, you have your church to thank for that, because your church never practised what it preached about human life: it NEVER respected its claim that such life was sacred, since it has ALWAYS approved not only its destruction through war and punishment, but, for very many centuries, the tradition of human slavery.
Why would the Irish respect unborn life when your church itself has never shown respect for it? On the contrary, it has historically undermined its only moral premise for preservation: that it is sacred.

His Lordship, the Most Reverend Big Delia, Bishop of Meath, should issue an interim statement on the matter while he continues with his investigation.
Of course, there could be a simply explanation for it all, Bp Pat, as Miss Kirby purchased several properties, including the main house, as well as carrying out numerous renovation projects within a 15 acre site.
She also wanted to purchase the remaining 160 acres, which she said was “indispensable for the preservation of silence and separation from the world.”

Jesus didn’t share Chesterton’s dewy-eyed abstraction of ancestory; in fact, he excoriated it for its disobedience to God’s law and for its slaying of the prophets: all in all for killing the truth.
And sure isn’t that what our ancestors did? Kill? And with the wild abandon that comes with self-righteousness: on the battlefield in glorious wars, some of them religious; on countless gallows; in churches, with the theocratic destruction of personal conscience; in domesticity itself, with the insistence on maintaing marriages thst were a sham and an affront to God, but not to the men of God; and in those very homes, with the destruction of innocence and faith by kiddie-fiddling priests and religious; and among the People of God, with conspiratorial silence and cover-up.

My only consolation in the heat? I look EVER so good in shorts 😍…judging by the number of men eyeing my well-turned calves. (Erm, the odd woman, too.)

Big Tom won’t do anything, he likes the boys himself, sure has been in dodgy places himself, well able to keep an eye or two on them!

Bishop Pat, will there be another installment of this story tonight? I won’t go to bed early just in case there is. It’s the best story you’ve had in a long time.

If the Papal Nuncio has appointed someone from within the Diocese of Meath as Bishop there would never have been as much due diligence. Good man Tom! Up Cork!!

You’re right. New brooms sweep clean. Clogher was in desperate need of an outsider after the long winter of the Joe Duffy years, but all it got was more insiders. At least we didn’t get either of the grey men O’Reilly or McGuinness.

Meath was another diocese in deep of need of purpose and direction. Tom has done very well so far.

He next needs to do something about Meath being a clerical refugee camp for priests and sems from other dioceses. All the recent departures highlight the failure of Mandy-Rice’s open door policy and refusal for years to have psychological testing of seminary applicants.

Tom clean up my hat! He has filled the cathedral with pretty boys already and surrounds himself with yes men! Are there any “practicing” bishops in Ireland.

I truly feel sorry for the genuine, God seeking Monks at Silverstream who probably had no idea of what was/is happening. We should pray for them. I have only ever received kindness and hospitality on my visits.
