CATHY KIRBY STILL CONTROLLING SILVERSTREAM MONASTERY?

Word from SILVERSTREAM is that Kirby could still be in the monastery.

This is based on the fact that Kirby is still authoring the daily talk to the monks gathered in chapter.

Is he doing this personally or are his thoughts being read out to the monks by the sub prior?

In either case it does not seem appropriate as the Church and Gardai are investigating claims of sexual and financial misconduct.

A lady who is well versed in the happenings at Silverstream told the blog yesterday that the current tactic of Kirby supporters is to portray Kirby as an innocent victim and to blame everything on the whistleblowing monk who brought everything out into the light.

This seems to me to be a dreadfully horrible tactic.

In society in general now there is great respect for whistle-blowers.

Brendan Coffee

So Brendan Coffee the Abbot of Glenstall, who is temporarily in charge of Silverstream needs to proceed with great caution or this scandal may blow up in his face and even affect his own monastery.

Tom Deenihan of Meath needs to be careful too.

This scandal has already been referred to Rome by a number of people including the Irish papal nuncio.

Anything Coffee and Deenihan do to the whistle-blower will be appealed to Rome.

To date the national and international media have not run this story.

But I have referred the story to media outlets in Ireland and the USA. So it is only a matter of time.

If they step out of line Messrs Coffee and Deenihan will find themselves at the centre of a whirlwind

O Canon! My Timmy has placed all our savings in a wager, with Paddy Power the Bookie Maker, that you won’t be the next Archbishop of Dublin.
Isn’t it wonderful? Sure you haven’t a snowball’s chance in hell.
My Timmy, so certain is he of the imminent windfall of winnings from your defeat, has already bought that little parish in the Antrim Hills, that long he had sought and for which he has craved.
I’m busy designing the curtains here so toodaloo! O Canon, sure you’re an awful man – a caution and a trickster altogether so ye are!
You remind me so much of my Timmy when he was your age!

Brendan Coffee the Abbot of Glenstall,How can he be in temporary control of Silverstream when day after day .Night after night he is in Glenstall ?He has not left Glenstall for the past weeks .You only have to see the live stream services from there to prove that .

I think people would like to know who the whistle blower is who claims sexual and financial misconduct and what proof they have. I am glad that it is now being investigated by The Church and the Guards but until this has been carried out it should not be judged as true. We all know that there are many malicious allegations made by people with their own agenda.

Most likely Brenda is the hatchet woman for the Big Delia, doing the “big boy” superior work at Silverstream from a distance, trying to clean up Cathy’s gigantic financial mess, and getting rid of the inconvenient whistleblowing monk. Ultimately this is all for Big Delia herself: she desperately does not want this scandal to break, because she and her predecessor will be shown to have been grossly negligent in their oversight of Silverstream as a diocesan monastery.

Bishop Buckley, I don’t agree with you on many issues, nor do I seek to be a member of your oratory – but I can say that you have persevered in shining a light on many many injustices in the Catholic Church. At the heart of these injustices are people and much much hurt. We are all human and deserve to be heard. Sadly, the Irish bishops do not listen to anyone. I have sent many sincere emails and letter to bishops, and have not as much as received an acknowledgment. You appear very sincere, human and approachable. Please continue this as this is so much needed in our world; I do admire this. I wish you well as you continue to expose corruption and injustices and be assured I will have lit a candle for you today.

I was thinking how old fashioned some of the clerical nick names are actually. Surely nobody much under 50 would remember Kathy Kirby or even have any idea why Cardinal Nichols is called Elsie.

Like

I agree. I’m over 50, and I don’t understand these names. The result is damaging to the blog, making it accessible only to a small clique.

I very much agree with the comment by Anon@ 10:27.
The use of nicknames, especially feminine ones for male clerics, shows how immature and limited are those who use them. It greatly degrades the quality of any discussion and the blog in general
And you too +Pat, by also using such nicknames and referring to other priests in this manner, expose yourself to accusations from those who seek to ridicule your otherwise good efforts.

MMM, ladies names for seminarians priests and bishops is a very old clerical tradition.

It does seem very immature to others.

In many ways the priesthood is quite “gay”.

I’m OK with the feminine nicknames… although it seems a bit odd. What really bothers me is that I can’t keep up with them! Maybe an occasional reminder or even a glossary.

Like

Pat, you say the priesthood is quite “gay”. I think it is more accurate to say it is quite “camp”. Very different, but sometimes connected, things.

It’s Dandy Nichols.
Dandy Nichols (born Daisy Sander; 21 May 1907 – 6 February 1986) was an English actress best known for her role as Else Garnett, the long-suffering wife of the racially bigoted and misogynistic character Alf Garnett in the BBC sitcom Till Death Us Do Part.

What a fiasco, Bp Pat, but it is good you have referred the matter. Of course, the old shuntyard captain, Cathy Kirby, is probably entirely innocent and its all a terrible misunderstanding.
I am sure +Big Delia and the Abbess will find no evidence of, for example, embezzlement, fraud, abuse of office, and money laundering, or London apartments, following their serious external audit of Silverstream.

I am disgusted at the used of female nicknames for men on this site, which is odious in many ways. Even the campiest gays refrain from this practice nowadays, and the idea that it’s a hallowed clerical tradition is a sad tribute to the immaturity of an older generation of clerics. It’s not just the disrespect intended to those given these nicknames that is disturbing, it’s the sheer misogyny that it entailed. This website is probably the only site in Ireland where such rampant misogyny is on display, shielded by anonymity except for the chief offender.

Pat have you not asked the Very Reverend Gerard Deighan what is going on in Silverstream. He’s a trustee there and has a tongue as loose as a prostitutes nickers. He’s blabbing about it all time to the other chorus girls in the Panto. The virus is a pandenic, there is no vaccine. It has killed less than .01 percent of the population. Everyone is going to contract it, all they are doing in this country is trying to slow it down regardless of the cost so the miserable excuse for a health service, the HSE, can cope. Donald is taking a different approach and letting it run its course. He is not killing anyone, let alone babies. FYI I am not a catholic.

Except for the seeming disappearance / unaccounted 4 million euro, I couldn’t give a toss about the Silverstream experiment in traditionalist monasticism. That kind of environment is only likely to attract the very odd who can’t fit in elsewhere with all the dysfunctions and deficiencies people like that have. The money side of things is a different matter, because that is money that comes under charity law and has to be transparent and accountable. So, I hope that the various secular bodies with responsibility will look in to it and find out what is happening. As to odd bod monks fancying each other or fiddling with each other, well that is their business and as long as they are of age, let them at it. If a young monk doesn’t like the attention he is getting, then a sharp fist to the nose of the offender should see the matter sorted out !

Like

Hmmm. There may be a few canonical and criminal implications to a monk hitting his superior in the face. But of course, that is what any civilized, right-minded person would do, risk his religious vocation, home, food, shelter, etc. by assaulting his superior. Brilliant!

10.48: do charities commissions tie in ecclesial visitation schedules (the bishop being of a separate charity)? A cunningly unfamiliar model chosen.

Rome has caused it to be forgotten that sexual offences against adult males are crime. Would Guards (not) have come running if there had been a biff to anyone’s nose? Churches, sadly, haven’t been teaching principle for some time now.

Wait till two crimes appear to have been committed – what I call distraction burglary burglary. Adverse evidence no longer “matters” as long as they can make it look quaint and haphazard enough: “alternative reality television”. Hence the need for whatever reservoir of honesty still exists in the wide world.

I think Elsie for Nichols is a reference to the actress Dandy Nichols who played Else [sic], Alf Garnett’s wife in Till Death Us Do Part. The original series lasted until 1975, which reinforces the long view of these nicknames.
That said I have heard of elderly Ampleforth monks addressing each other as dear in the fifties without a hint of camp so perhaps all this merely reflects changing society.
Poor Kathy Kirby suffered from poor health for years, was eventually diagnosed with schizophrenia.

Here’s a VD question. For entry to a “monastery of episcopal right” does one need to go through any of the diocesan VDs? And if so, is there not a conflict of interests in VDs’ relations with someone’s pet “pretend Benedictines”?

Patsy I was shocked to hear what you said about what happened to you when you were younger did this happen to you at Clonliffe or Waterford. You should have kicked them in the ghooley’s the dirty articles.

Thanks for that reply, I thought it was when you were in the seminary, it makes it worse that they were priests. You are too gracious saying they were struggling with their sexuality as far as I’m concerned it was criminal behaviour to a subordinate and they should have been dealt with accordingly.

Surprised that head monk is STILL around. Was he suspended or on an indefinite leave? He shouldn’t be there while investigation is ongoing especially garda, moolah place (Rome), Bishop of meath,? Was papal nuncio notified?
Has anybody thought of reporting them to Irish charity regulator?
Need for pysch assessment as some sems must under the influence or duress?
If anyone out there had info on silverstream, hold on to it and don’t release it public cos you are giving head start if you do release on public. If this drags on with no prospect of an outcome of publishing on the media by bishops. Best place to go is independent media not govt mouth pieces paper, church militant with Voris, any paper with anti Catholic bias to give us a different slant or perspective.
