US SECRETARY OF STATE CRITICISES POPE FRANCIS OVER CHINA.

MIKE POMPEO US SECRETARY OF STATE

Mike Pompeo Attacks Pope Francis & The ‘Moral Authority’ Of The Vatican Amidst Potential Deal With China

September 19, 2020 Anna Harnes The Inquisitr

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has hit out at Pope Francis following the news that diplomats from the Holy See are meeting later this month with members of the Chinese Communist Party to renew a two-year-old agreement between China and the Vatican.

Though the Middle Kingdom nominally adheres to the principle of religious freedom, it is officially an atheist state and has routinely been accused of cracking down on faith-based organizations.

“Two years ago, the Holy See reached an agreement with the Chinese Communist Party, hoping to help China’s Catholics. Yet the CCP’s abuse of the faithful has only gotten worse. The Vatican endangers its moral authority, should it renew the deal,” Pompeo wrote in a tweet.

In a longer statement published on First Things, Pompeo also criticized the Holy See’s decision to “legitimize” Chinese priests and bishops who were simultaneously involved with the CCP, claiming that they had “unclear” loyalties.

Pompeo cited the plight of Father Paul Zhang Guangjun, who was tortured and has since disappeared after refusing to join the CCP-run Patriotic Catholic Association. Similarly, Bishop James Su Zhimin was arrested in 1997 and last seen in 2003.

The secretary of state also explained the link between religious freedom and protesters in Hong Kong, naming Martin Lee and Jimmy Lai in particular.

Pompeo noted that it is not just Catholics who have suffered under China’s restrictions on religious freedom. He added that credible reports detailed that the minority Uighur Muslim population in the Xinjiang province has been subjected to forced sterilizations, forced abortions, labor camps, and reeducation programs.

As was similarly reported by The Inquisitr, several sources claimed that the Asian nation had started a new program that offered rewards to those who reported home churches in their communities. Bounties on the underground churches have reportedly tallied as high as $14,000.

Pompeo continued his missive with the hope that the Pope would reconsider making an alliance with China, bringing up Catholicism’s power in helping end communism in Eastern Europe and fascism in South America in the 20th century.

Pompeo ended his statement by citing both the leader’s own words as well as the Gospel’s.

“Pope Francis said in 2013 that ‘Christians must respond to evil with good, taking the Cross upon themselves as Jesus did.’ History teaches us that totalitarian regimes can only survive in darkness and silence, their crimes and brutality unnoticed and unremarked,” he wrote.

“I pray that… the Holy See will heed Jesus’s words in the Gospel of John, ‘The truth will set you free,’” he concluded.

PAT SAYS

The Vatican is not undermining its moral authority over the deal with China

WHY?

The Vatican HAS NO MORAL AUTHORITY!

That moral authority has disappeared with:

1. The child abuse scandals.

2. The sexual abuse if nuns by priests.

3. The Vatican is ONE BIG GAY SAUNA.

4. The torture of women in the Magdalen Laundries.

5. The burial of babies in septic tanks.

6. The massive financial scandals.

7. Papal Nuncios feeling up young men.

8. Bishops abbots and monks frequenting gay saunas.

9. Priests fathering and abandoning their children.

10. Seminaries becoming gay knocking shops.

CHINA and THE VATICAN are both alike.

They both run totalitarian states.

They both deny human rights.

China supports political terrorism.

The Vatican supports spiritual and social terrorism.

The Italian Government should revert the 1929 Corcordat making the Vatican an independent state.

The international community should send all Vatican diplomats packing.

If the state is atheist what’s the logic in going after faith based organisations who are theoretically following an illusion. What’s in it for these so called diplomats. Two year agreement makes no sense from a faith perspective. If the church wants to promote religious freedom it should promote it in the name of all people and faiths of good will. It’s a modern Roman Empire trick. History is repeating itself only now it’s hidden by a smell screen of aftershave

‘The Vatican endangers it’s moral authority’ – don’t make me laugh.
Just in case any priests are reading this (although you won’t admit it): the cult you serve will throw you under the bus if it suits it, just like the Chinese priest.
It has no moral authority.

The Vatican hierarchy is devoid of all moral basis, and its purported ethics are drowned in a sea of debunked platitudes; the agendas of which are not of God or His Christ son.
Full exposure from the top to the bottom is happening before our very eyes; it is the only way to obtain accountability and fruitful change.
IICSA is just one momentum in this respect.
Too much has happened and is still happening.

The RCC doesn’t seem to teach little folks prayer, prudence, discernment or responsibility for each other. Its last chance in England was in 1980 and it’s now clear it has missed that. Religion should not be a matter for the Vatican state and its allies. Promoting pro nuncios to nuncio status (Mrs T’s idea) was a bad idea.
RCC officials seem uneasy about further handling of past wrongs of various kinds (weird money even if sometimes only medium-sized, salacious talk, emotional pressure, abnormal governance) and that makes the public uneasy. Clergy might want to, but their outsourced elbow joggers – whether salaried, or from over-complicated “movements” of the last 100 years – or the many powerful senior archdioceses, might not want them to.
Supreme religious leaders seem to concentrate on delegating goody-two-shoes types (mostly lacklustre) as “representatives” to state bodies. It’s such a shame the RCC didn’t have a spiritual, only a political, strategy.

One of the central characters in the development and implementation of Vatican foreign policy is an Englishman – Archbishop Paul Gallagher from Liverpool. He’s the one who was recently in China chatting to the Chinese. I think the main stimulus for this policy with China is somewhat similar to Piux XII during the 2nd WW – their main interest is to protect the Catholic Church in China whatever the cost, and will sublimate any other concerns that they might have if by voicing them they put the Catholic Church and Catholics at risk. Pius XII knew about the evils of Nazism, particularly in respect of the Jews, but never once did he have the courage to call out the Nazis, fearing that there would be a backlash against Catholics in Germany. It’s a policy of looking after your own arse first, and to hell with everybody else. Some call it ‘realpolitik’.

Like

Archbishop Paul Gallagher is a dead ringer for Dean Hughie Kennedy, don’t you think ? Could it be that Hughie disappeared to Rome and reincarnated as the Vatican’s Secretary for Relations With States ?! Stranger things have happened.
More seriously, I suspect Hugh is still on the north coast living in some dignified comfort. I know a number of clergy who are similarly furloughed, perhaps not the subject of criminal investigation, but with a cloud over them. Without exception, they hang on tenaciously to their identity as priest, saying Mass at home, moving in circles of clerical connections, and generally desperate to maintain that identity. I am surprised, because I imagine that if such a thing were to happen to me – and to which of us could it not happen given the way things are at present – then I would just tell the diocese and Church to fuck off, and make my own way, without having to hang on to an identity that didn’t want to own me any more. I could find lots and lots of things and people to keep me entertained and engaged. Actually, it could be a wonderful life !
I think it is sad when clergy have no other identity or sense of themselves except that of priest. They can never let go, they can never move on, they can never retire. It’s sad that so many of them are unable to realise what else there is about them. It’s part of that clerical culture driven in to clergy that they are special, set apart, unlike the rest of humanity, and have an identity that trumps everything else. Until they get dumped that it is. And even then they tend to hang on to it for grim life. Sad.

At 10:04 you really should just leave now. If that’s all the priesthood and the Church means to you, you should have the integrity to go and do those “lots and lots of things”. You’re a real disgrace.

Like

At 11:13 – he’s not honest. If he was honest he would leave. He’s a crass cynic and too indolent to do the decent thing and get out of the priesthood. He will continue to sit on his arse scratching himself, living very comfortably off the church and the people, being crass, cynical and soulless.

Like

Disgrace ? Why ? For saying it as it is ? I find lots and lots of things to do while being a priest, and am happy with it as it is, for me. But, if I were to find myself like Hughie or others, then I would head off once and for all and find lots and lots of other things to do. And tell the Bishop and the Church to fuck off. I’ve no problem with that. But, for the present I’m content being where I am, ministering as I do, and doing a little bit of good I hope. I am just honest about what I would do in certain circumstances, rather than hanging on plaintively because I’m too sad to have an imagination or a life. The priesthood, the Church, ministry, the clerical world, the presbytery, all of that is not everything about my life. I didn’t swallow all that nonsense about being special. Neither did my friends and family. Thank God.

Anon@10:04: Perhaps another compelling factor in desperately clinging to a clerical identity may be the lack of any realistic alternative? The “skill-set” of dressing up in fancy vestments and mumbo-jumboing meaningless quaint rituals isn’t much in demand in today’s labour market.

Like

You are right MMM. Most clergy who want to move on find that they don’t have many transferable skills. Sadly. So, they are stuck, dependant, tied in to a feudal system that keeps them enchained. So, they just carry on. Probably find a few ways to make life tolerable, like a bit of gay cruising, camping it up, obsessing about vestments, taking refuge in odd behaviours. Sad.

Like

Even ex-seminarians tragically hold on to that identity for the rest of their lives, eg MMM and the allegedly banned one.

Anon@11:35: I wonder how much self absorbed projection is involved in your comment?
That I was a seminarian 60 years ago has absolutely no significance for my sense of identity: fact. I have referred to it in this blog site as it is relevant in the context of discussing the limitations of RC clergy as has been so continuously and egregiously manifested by revelations of their disgusting behaviour in +Pat’s blog.
I regard that passage of my life as relevant as, having once been an “insider”, I am therefore aware of just how shallow, inadequate and incompetent is the “training ” of RC clerics. And the reality is that after “graduation” many of these clerics are deluded into believing that their “training” and the “ontological change” of ordination has conferred quasi magical powers of wisdom and knowledge upon them.
I say these things as separate issues quite apart from my conviction that there is no underlying basis of authenticity for the alleged role of RC clerics: their God is an illusionary mythology perpetuated in their own self interest.
I have regularly challenged this blog’s clerics to provide ANY objective proof or evidence for their religious beliefs. So far, in about five years there has been nothing of any worth in response. Ad hominem attacks: attempted deflection: vacuous reliance on personal “faith”, just about sums them up.
Can you do better?

I am a hater of Roman Catholic priesthood, and I shall do everything in my power to discredit it and to destroy it. You might say it has become my mission in life, and my sphere of operation is the internet. I love my work more than I can express, and my love of it, and delight in it, deepens by the day.

Jesus did not intend Romanist priesthood, and the evidence for this is both historical and current: a bad tree can bear only bad fruit, and the fruit of the tree of Romanist priesthood has invariably been foul-tasting.

However, I must ever be humble, and right now humility requires me to congratulate the priest who posted at 10.04. I rarely do such a thing, because the vast majority of priests in my experience are Christ-betraying parasites, and they deserve nothing but condemnation. Quite frankly, were I to come across a Romanist priest self-combusting in his own indolent and more-than-ample body fat, I should be hard pressed to empty my bladder over him.

But the priest at 10.04? Now there’s a man for whom I’d happily make an exception. Unlike you, he appears grounded in his own, vulnerable humanity, not mired in the bullshit of ontological specialness. Such men do not deepen hatred for priesthood (and you need to listen carefully to this) because I actually found myself, much to my astonishment, warming to the man: to his integrity, his humility, his very ordinariness.

As for you…😡

If you are a priest and I ever come across you self-combusting, know… Know that I shall just pass on by.

If the Romanist priesthood were morally respectable and not the slurry pit of debauchery it always has been, there might be truth in your words.

Anyone who left seminary before ordination has a lot to be thankful for, not bitter about.

Imagine belonging to one of the most detested cults in human history, and being globally detested for it.

Imagine sponging off others, especially old dears living on meagre state pensions. The shame of it. What kind of lowlife allows himself such a disgraceful and reprehensible existence? A Romanist priest, that’s who. Devoid of conscience, and therefore of the normal human capacity for guilt and shame.

What nauseating excuses for human beings. For men. 😕

Romanist priesthood has presented differently over the centuries, but it has always remained mutatis mutandis: the creation of men rather than God.

Yore: Vatican Whistleblower: Disgraced Cardinal McCarrick Served as Envoy for Disastrous Vatican/China Deal
Elizabeth Yore 4 Jun 2019.

The former secretary to Cardinal Theodore McCarrick just released portions of emails revealing McCarrick’s extensive travel to and negotiations with the Chinese Communist government on behalf of Pope Francis.

These astonishing whistleblower allegations are detailed on a new website titled Figueiredo report. Msgr. Anthony Figueiredo, now stationed in Rome, had access to extensive McCarrick emails and correspondence describing the global diplomatic travel by the disgraced Cardinal to China and the Middle East. Throughout the first four years of the Francis papacy, McCarrick communicated extensively and directly with Pope Francis regarding his negotiations with the Chinese.

It’s a very old cliché, but you really cannot serve two masters; and you, priest, chose which master you preferred to serve on the day you were ordained. And it wasn’t Christ.
No; your focus is the Romanist Church, and its unjust laws, through the profession of obedience, not to the God-man, but to a corruptible man in a mitre and, through him, to a corrupted, morally rotted institution that has disgraced itself in Heaven as well as on Earth.
Even the demons are aghast at your collective sin.
If ever there were an act crying to Heaven for vengeance, it is your very existence as a priest in a priesthood that Jesus did not intend while serving an institution that has committed, over and over, in practically every century of its worthless being, the sin for which Jesus himself prescribed the only just punishment: being weighted with a millstone, and ingloriously being dropped into a deep sea.
All I get from your post is monstrous arrogance, priest. You have learned nothing from the nature of the foul beast you chose to serve all those years ago.
As for being in the presence of Satan, you have never been out of his company since the day you allowed yourself to be ordained for service to his mistress on Earth: the institutional Roman Catholic Church.

5.43: What makes you draw such untruthful, nasty conclusions? Could it be that you are an ex seminarian or an ex priest or just a disgruntled, narky priest? After almost 44 years of ministry, I will admit that I feel very challenged in the present situation of our Church and priesthood. Overall, I’ve been very fulfilled but I find it very difficult to have the same enthusiasm or strength I once had. Much has changed irrevocably. It is natural that any person, irrespective of profession, reaches a point where they feel less enthusiastic and committed. Age and health are important factors. Priests are no different. To be truthful, I often wish I could retire and offer my ministry without the responsibilities I presently have. Maybe it’s because I grew up in a time and in a family where the ethic of work was deeply instilled in us, to the point where we were not allowed to be idle. To countenance retiring now does not sit well with what I grew up with. I struggle to keep going. I face each day as best I can. I have been blessed but now I have different emotions and feelings, especially in light of past and present scandals in the church. It is possible to remain true to your inner convictions, vision, beliefs and “gospel ministry” in the face of much criticism, contempt, ridicule and judgment, as posted here, much of which is justified. I know many colleagues, 65 – 80, still working as best they can, but who also profoundly question the concept of church and priesthood. We may be beaten down by criticism but we do not give up. I could have left in my 30’s when I had grave misgivings and was sufgiciently qualified to work professionally in education or counselling. I got through and I am glad to have done so.
