Re question No 1. According to Google, an Abbot of Dormition called Gregory Collins resigned in June 2016, just five years after the Bishop of D&C warmly welcomed her election. No reason is given for Miss Collins’ resignation, but it followed a period of reflection and prayer.

I see Old Mother Burke is harping on about traditional Church teaching on sexual matters again, particularly homosexuality, in light of Francis’ recent comments on civil partnerships/ unions. I wonder what he has to say about transsexuality, because looking at him I’m sure he’s transitioning to being and old dame. He must be taking hormones to help him become smoother of cheek, rounder of hips and girth, and no doubt under all that satin and ermine you will find some female breasts. There is at best grave incompetence and insufficient attention going on in these monasteries, with lots of obfuscation, coverup and just plain ignorance of the gravity of the facts. I am not a liar: I was in the Wing with Earl Collins. During my first year there, I sat beside him in the back row of pews, on the right-hand side of the Oratory.
I once helped him through what seemed an asthma or panic attack, which left him gasping for breath. I opened a window and put his head through the space that he might breathe cool fresh air. He had the decency to call at my room later to thank me.
If you are in touch with him, repeat this account, and he should be able to name me, CL.

One of the canonical points at issue here is when a monk is elected abbot of another monastery his stability transfers with him i.e. he loses stability in his monastery of profession.
Glenstal could have decided by vote to re-admit such a person. What the bar should be set at is an interesting question: a simple majority? two-thirds? etc. Time, and Pat, will tell.

It would depend on the constitution of the congregation it belongs to, so not simply the abbey’s decision. I have no idea what that would mean for the Annunciation Congregation.

Does it mention former old boy Shane? He joined the Abbey. Is there an interview with him promoting vocations? Didn’t he go to Africa for a little while? Where is he now? Or does it mention Fr Terence Hartley who was involved in the school for years and was also from the North but left the Abbey for some reason or other? Or Mark Tierney R.I.P. (Wrote history books for school syllabus) and was promoter for Dom Columba Marmion as well as other things?

Paul Nash is a blast from the past. He was the very prissy Senior House organist in Maynooth in the 80s and during the summer holidays he camped about on Lough Derg as their organist during the pilgrimage season.
