Bishop Cullinan,
I sent you an e-mail about very serious allegations pertaining to Richard Purcell. I asked you for an acknowledgement. You have ignored same with alarming alacrity. Your grave lack of courtesy is simultaneously surprising and disrespectful. Obviously, in the person of the Bishop of Waterford and Lismore — it is axiomatic that the Catholic Church in Ireland has learned nothing from its failure to deal with recidivist priests that have blighted the church. Your insouciance is all the more shocking in light of your public moral crusading.
As you will have seen issues concerning Richard Purcell are becoming ever more complex, and they need to be urgently addressed by you as the Bishop of the Diocese of Waterford and Lismore working contiguously with the former Abbot of Mount Melleray Abbey, Dom Eamon Fitzgerald, OCSO.
By the present, you are advised that a Rotal Advocate will be formally instructed towards the end of this week to begin canonical proceedings against Richard Purcell. We have been informally advised that the information in our possession would beget grounds for the laicisation of Purcell. This is a course of action that nobody wishes to follow, however, funds have been raised, and mandates are in the process of being signed..
To that extent, I respectfully suggest that you in the morning as a matter of urgency have a conversation with Dom Eamon Fitzgerald, in his capacity as Abbot General of the Order of the Cistercians of the Strict Observance. Therein, I further respectfully suggest you demand the immediate resignation of Richard Purcell as the Abbot of Mount Melleray Abbey. It might-be adventitious to discuss the matter also with the Apostolic Nuncio.
Sincerely,
Robert Hourigan
*****Phonsie has replied assuring that all the proper procedures will be followed.
PAT SAYS:
This whole crisis originated in Mount Melleray and with Abbot Richard Purcell.
Purcell’s involvement as a “visitor” to Silverstream, along with Brendan Coffey brought Glenstal into the crisis.
Basically Purcell and Coffey made a balls of the Silverstream visition – by siding with guilty Kirby and making a scape goat of the innocent monk whistle-blower.
They were of course weilding the knife on behalf of Tom “The Divil” Deenihan.
Now, instead of having one monastery in different we have three – Silverstream, Melleray and Glenstal.
And Purcell and Coffey are under investigation.
They also have this blog and the Kerry Resolver on their heels.
PHONSIE
Someone in Phonsie’s office has assured Robert Hourigan thT the proper procedures will take place.
What is that procedure?
Who will conduct it?
What will be its remit?
Will its findings be made known?

Maybe Robert Hourigan should start his own site instead of you acting as a middle-man between him and who ever he has a thing against. Maybe I am wrong but is it a case that Robert Hourigan and Pat Buckley are one and the same person. If Robert Hourigan has problems or concerns about Abbots and their involvement in one way or another with Children he should go to the PSNI if it involves someone in the North or the Gardai if it is in the Republic and to let them know his concerns. He should also be going to Tusla in the Republic and to whatever its equvilant in the North is.

There is only one axis of evil in today’s world: the institutional Romanist Church. And its moral toxicity is, daily now, becoming ever more apparent.

It was pointed out to me on more than one occasion “that Pat Buckley has a nasty habit of being accurate”, and this is what makes him such a figure of irritation and dislike for certain members of the Irish Hierarchy.
However, he does fulfil what now appears to be a much-needed role in exposing “the filth of the church” to utilise the words of Pope Emeritus Pope Benedict XVI.

To answer your questions Pat
(What is that procedure?)
Allegations are brought to R. Purcell; he has the right of response; he can confirm or deny. The presumption of innocence is paramount here, especially with the lack of evidence. Anecdotal evidence supplied by Robert Hourigan can be easily denied and suppressed. Canon Law always errs in the favour the cleric in these ambiguous situations.
(Who will conduct it?)
The Church authorities – Bishop, Chancellor, Abbott General, Canon Lawyers.
(What will be its remit?)
Canonical Trial – if there is a case to be found. In my humble opinion, there would appear to be no concrete case to be found.
Robert Hourigan’s own words are very telling here:
“We have been informally advised that the information in our possession would beget grounds for the laicisation of Purcell.”
This statement confirms
1. Hearsay – “informally advised”.
2. It operates under the presumption of guilt – “would beget grounds for laicisation”. Says who? What serious laws have been broken to beget laicisation? Please enlighten us.
3. There is no concrete evidence or even a credible witness to beget any grounds for anything thus far. The information in the possession of R. Hourigan seems anecdotal at best.
(Will its findings be made known?)
It remain in the private arena given that no civil laws have been broken. With the overbearing lack of evidence and apparent lack of witnesses willing to come forward, it is arguable, that no canonical laws have broken either. It will remain in the private forum as to protect the good name R. Purcell. If it does become public it will only be to restore the good name of R. Purcell.
If I may be as bold to submit an informal opinion? I believe Robert Hourigan has taken it upon himself to be judge, jury and executioner in this case.
It appears to have all the hallmarks of a personal vendetta. It has gone beyond the normal bounds of what could be deemed – “just another concerned private citizen”. Robert Hourigan is working backwards to try prove himself right. If anything, he should be impartial to the case and hope that these unfounded allegations are untrue for the good of Mount Melleray and the Church. He berates the apparent wrongdoing of purcell yet willingly ignores the apparent behaviour of the priests and seminarians making the allegations? This moral dichotomy is very telling and further leads one to believe his personal grievance lays with R. Purcell alone. He is leading the change in the demise of R. Purcell and he has more to gain from this than he letting on. This insidious behaviour is an affront to human decency and Christian charity.
In short, it would appear that Robert Houigan is a very nasty vindictive individual who is out to get R. Purcell. It is clear you are clutching at straws Mr. Hourigan. It makes me wonder, if we were to look into Houigan’s personal life, what might we find in his closet? No pun intended.
Yours, Legal Eagle.

My citation and referral to the lack of evidence is only indicative of that fact that so far he has not provided any evidence. Thus far, Mr. Hourigan has only proposed hearsay and rumour as the basis of his argument. I am open to being corrected on the matter but Robert Hourigan has spent the past month rewording the same information over and over in each correspondence and then he took
to imploring Church authorities to act on the questionable information. They cannot act of rumour but fact. Purcell also deserves a fair hearing devoid of innuendo and gossip.
If Mr. Hourigan did have the evidence he claims to, the case would have progressed already. It has not progressed past anecdotal second hand information; this leads me to the conclude that he does not have a case.
If for some reason, up until now, he has refused to send the evidence to “those who need to know”, it gives me reason to doubt the veracity of his claims all together. He may be in receipt of legal advice but legal advice does not make a case; evidence makes a case.
Yours, Legal Eagle.

This word-play mastication is very reminiscent of the tripe Magna Carta used to write on this blog. I can see why people accused Robert Hourigan of being Magna Carta. Further to this revelatory observation, I read Robert Hourigan’s comments from two days ago. He also seems to overuse the emoji symbols which again is very reminiscent of Magna Carta.
Example:
Robert Hourigan says:

This is the same dry senseless humour, emoji style and sentence syntax of Magna Carta. The mask of Robert Hourigan slips from time to time because of his clearly self deluded ego. I am now wondering if Magna Carta (Robert Hourigan) studied with R. Purcell in Maynooth. I wonder if this is all plot to get back at him over some personal past grievance?
This is just a theory.

But his role as abbot requires him to be above board, ethical responsibility as well also his moral compass as an example to his fellow monks. There is a ‘trump’ like behaviour re Purcell as stubborn and unwilling to resign. He only think for himself not Mt Melleray. he’s probably willing to let Mt Melleray to take the rap instead of himself. But he has a presumption of innocence until proven guilty and also due process to defend himself.

Nothing has precluded administrative / informal action. The original parties should have figured out a way to split the difference among themselves long ago. According to Scripture Christian living was a bit more than “do as you would not be done by the cops for”..
A handful of now old ladies didn’t stop praying, or could remember how to resume, and they might well be silly as they are accused here, but they ARE praying. Bishops with a picture of ministry, and relationship with a flock, or abbots / priors with a genuine community, will realise the value in their prayers, and will not hide behind a “public relations officer” image of not needing ordinary people’s ordinary prayers for their ministry daily.
I foresee:
– Purcell as Special Assistant to Abbot General or even “Flying Abbot”
– a House in the US taking in over-69s
– an overly vague statement regarding under 18s
– continuing irresponsible silence regarding harms to others under authority
– continuing neglect of genuine protections like visitation norms
– secular authority loves to allow financial question marks to hang over churches indefinitely

It’s rightly been stressed that orientation isn’t a problem. The important morale question is simply in whether advantage has been taken of another (and junior) person’s semi-demoralised state.
Whilst this describing of part of the content of affidavits is an untasteful pass, it might have been untasteful of the original parties to not crank up the discretion quotient earlier on. And isn’t this what pro-nuncios are for instead of diplomatic meddling?

Some quick notes
– Reporting someone to Tulsa and the charity regulator does not indicate any wrongdoing. Anyone can send an email to any government body about anyone or anything for that matter. Furthermore, evidence would need to be supplied that a crime was committed or that someone was at risk of harm. I see nothing about Purcell’s alleged behaviour that would warrant this; unless Robert Hourigan reported him maliciously in the hope of causing damage to his reputation? I sincerely hope Mr. Hourigan’ did not try to link (homosexuality and being a danger to children) – this type of infernal would be seen as extremely inflammatory to the court. The court would have sufficient evidence to infer that Mr. Hourigan has committed a hate crime with intent to cause irreparable damage to R. Purcell.
– R. Purcell has recourse to The Defamation Act 2009.
– R. Purcell has recourse to the Non-Fatal Offences Against the Person Act, 1997 – for harassment and internet stalking .
– Robert Hourigan stated today he only received “informal legal advice”. This gives me sufficient reason to doubt that this “senior counsel” has any intention of backing Mr. Hourigan up in a court room. (My guess is that he is only scanning Robert’s letters for defamation – big mistake!)
– There would be sufficient cause to have this “senior counsel” debarred given his suspect legal advice, gaslighting and misrepresentation.
– Note: Pat Buckley has disassociated from Robert Hourigan by passing the buck to him to make the case. (Very wise of you Pat).
Currently – R. Purcell has a stronger case than you do Mr. Hourigan. This whole situation is a farce. I hope you have evidence, support and monetary funding. This will cost you more than just money.
R. Purcell – remain strong and get strong legal advice. This man is a complete lunatic.

I do wish people would realise that nothing is going to come of this discussion. I don’t say that because I think it’s right what has and is happening, but I am just being realistic about what can be achieved. The play book of the RC clergy and bishops is to do nothing, to keep quiet, and to wait until the news passes on. Especially if the matters do not come under any criminal legislation. These matters about Purcell and Silverstream have to do with some sexual shenanigans that are not illegal. Perhaps in the Silverstream money matter there might be issues that have some charity commission, tax, even police concern, and that is the thing that they will be more concerned about. But, the sexual antics of Purcell and company are second level issues for them, and they will just wait until the hue and cry has passed by. The arrogant obliviousness of RC clergy and bishops to the bleeding obvious is demonstrated again in the rather cheery attitude of Nichols of Westminster – “So, on we go !” He will just ignore the excoriating criticism that is made of him in the IICSA report because he knows that he can hide under the cloak of the Vatican who will protect him. There is no other authority, except in word, that can bring him to account, and he knows that. However, his reputation is shredded, and he is seen yet again for his contemptuous arrogance and disdain for anyone who dares to call him to account. This will come to bite him and the RC Church in the arse in due course. We are not far away from the Government deciding that, given the past and given the present attitude of people like Nichols, it is time for outside supervision and regulation of the RC Church, particularly when it comes to safeguarding. The RC Church will be made to pay for it, but it will not be under their control. So, “on we go” it might be for a while, but Nichols and people like him will be brought to book and to heel, and the Pope and the Vatican will not be able to protect him.

2.34: Here we go again….Mr. Hooligan’s case for a “lawsuit” is smashed and demolished to pieces by the brilliance of Legal Eagle. It is evident for all intelligent individuals that Hooligan is very, very rattled and challenged. One doesn’t need to be a legal genius to realise that if a barrister is advising a client who is taking a lawsuit, the content of advice, statements or affidavits would not be played loosely with or on any media outlet. The barrister supposedly advising Hooligan may not be aware of his client’s mendacious and sinister behaviour in his mockery of due and diligent process. I am surprised that Pat, very unwisely, is participating in this charade. The unclassified so-called “numbers” or “allies” and other half references to infirmation, the reliance on moral threats/blackmail by saying “I have further information” (to be validated of course), the sneering at people – all suggest that Hooligan MAGNA CARRA is more poisonous than ever and dangerously delusional. Perhaps his imagined barrister friend might call the pstchiatfistbsoin for him! His big cage is beginning to imprison him. We have yet to receive absolute clarity about “crimes” or “transgressions” of any individual in this drama that warrant the intervention of civil authorities. I have printed out all this material from the last 4 weeks and shown it to a lady friend journalist. She nor her newspaper wouldn’t touch this story as it is full of holes, hearsay, unverifiable, contradictions, unknown unknowns, confusion and very sinister motivations. Legal Eagle, continue to sieve through the Hooligsn/ Carta crap. Furthermore, she atrested to my earlier observation: any respected solicitor/barrister would not sign up to the manner in which the ugly protagonist (accuser Hooligan) is breaking all journalistic ethical standards by being judge, jury and executioner on this blog.

However, I have a very forgiving heart and you are welcome to lay alongside me! Didn’t you say you want meat?? Juicy freshly cut sirloins!! I have them in abundance. Just make your way to the back outhouse where your forebears slaved and laboured…Surely we can be mates? .😎☻☻☻☻☻☻☻…

Dickie, I am, of course, pleased to read that you are on a forty-day penitential journey. Are you contemplating your resignation? Is, Santa not coming because of the Covid-19 restrictions? No booze — now that is a terrible state of affairs. Later this evening I will enjoy some Speyside single malt; I will of course toast your on-going good health. As a monk in solemn vows, I am not unduly perturbed by your lack of pleasure.
Being a peasant from the bogs of Kerry — sirloin steak is not something I am familiar with, however, bacon and cabbage is more my thing; I am realistic about my modest upbringing.
I presume you are currently on “retreat” in the building as you walk past the milking parlour on the left hand side; then at the top of same; turn right walking past the location where the old poultry farm used to be located following that track down until you come to the house?
Now, can you tell readers of this blog, why Abbot Brendan of Glenstal (silly fellow) was seeking an statement of exculpation for your “naughty activities”. My absence from the blog today has been due to lots of conversation and life is about to get very

6.20: Bobser, you well remember the pathway. Well done. I should have been on retreat long before now. I know God is forever merciful but I don’t ever presume to be worthy of so great a gift. I hope you’re not too presumptive either. This time I promise i’ll make amends and if it pleases you, my daddy , you can come and whip me as a penance!! Oh, the thought of it! (you can put thorns on it if you do desire). Whatever you wish fir, I’ll succumb to you. I’m so glad that my Legal Eagle us putting the scutters on you. I know you don’t like being found out, but you and I can collaborate together and put an end to all this. My dearest Magna, like the Prodigal Father, my arms await in embrace to receive you. Come….no need for apologies, just lots of hugs…..even with masks. Like the psalmist, “..my soul is longing for you, like a dry weary land without water..” .. Come, my beloved! From Bishop Egan,
(Enews 10 Nov)
As you may know, during these next days the Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) is publishing the report of its inquiry into the Catholic Church in England and Wales. It will, I am sure, make difficult reading and going forward, with gratitude to the Inquiry for its work, we will need to reflect carefully on the findings and recommendations made and to learn the lessons. Meanwhile, I want to assure you that both I, as the Bishop, and our Diocese of Portsmouth have always adhered to, and continue to be committed to providing robust, transparent and effective safeguarding processes, policies and procedures. We are committed to supporting and accompanying survivors and victims of abuse, and to listening to their voices. I also want to express my heartfelt sorrow and regret in my capacity as a Bishop of the Catholic Church, for all of the abuse that has taken place within the Church and for any failing in appropriate responses made. The Church should be a safe place for all, and as the Bishop of Portsmouth I am wholly committed to ensuring that robust safeguarding policies and procedures are in place without exception. Please join me in prayer for all those affected by abuse, that the depth of God’s healing love and mercy surround them and that God’s justice be carried out on earth and in Heaven. END QUOTE
Committed? Tell that to the victims of JP Lyttle or Brogan

Abbot Brendan Coffey of Glenstal Abbey sought from the whistle-blower at Silverstream Priory — a statement of exculpation for Dom Richard Purcell’s rampant and grossly immoral behaviour. This is all proved by e-mails. And, Abbot Fitzgerald told Pat Buckley that Purcell’s behaviour was a one-off. They all know and have covered-up for Purcell for quite some time. The next few days will be interesting.
Keep your eyes on the blog.

But what would the whistleblower have known – if anything a about Abbout Richard’s alleged behaviour?
