HAS ELIJAH GOT A COMPUTER GAY PORN ADDICTION?

Elijah

A source in Meath diocese has informed the blog that the new prior of Silverstream has a computer gay porn problem?

This Meath priest was told about Elijah’s porn problem by the disgraced prior – Mark Kirby!

Kirby said that he forbade Elijah to use the computer unless the office door was left wide open so that everyone could see in.

This was in spite of Elijah being the priory accountant!

People who have met Elijah say he comes across as very immature and having a lot of unsorted issues.

His appearance makes him look very tense, frail and on edge.

Who appointed him prior – Deenihan, Coffey or Purcell?

Coffey
Deenihan
Purcell

Did they know about his issues?

If not, why not?

One prior has already fallen over sexual issues.

Appointing another one with similar issues is irresponsibility on a global scale!

SILVERSTREAM NEEDS CLOSING!!!

The comment on hearsay re: Elijah is disgusting and its only motivation is to destroy his life and that of Silverstream. If there are difficulties at Silverstream, those monks should be given the space to sort out their problems. Using and abusing their struggles is morally repugnant. The email sent by R. Mc to Abbot of Glenstal is more revelatory of his unsitability for a community. His invective is disgusting. While I do not approve of any cynicism by any religious towards a prospective candidate, nonetheless Robert’s email says much about his need for psychological support. I sincerely hope that he does not make allegations which are libellous or untruthful because he will pay a personal price, not just financially. Robert, you should practice very careful discretion as you may become a victim of this blog. Believe me.

My comments are made ‘sotto voce’ and not in anger. However, I’ve come to a point where I do not need the approval or fear the reprobation of bad people, no matter how elevated their position. They have done their worst to me and yet I LIVE because my Redeemer lives. Let them continue in their wide sleeves and flowing skirts whilst they adulterate their calling. As for your advice about the blog I will say this: perhaps the blog is an eschatological moment where time is reflected in the light of eternity.

9.12: Robert, there is nothing “soft” about your screaming in your invective against Glenstal. Did you spend any time with the community before or after your “interview”? On two such experiences in my life as someine interested in two religious orders, one missionary, the other, educational, when I wasn’t accepted I didn’t go all gratefully apoplectic. I eventually found my vocation. There is something you are hiding from us and I’m sure you are giving only your experience. That you believe this blog is an eschatological moment is both bizarre and absurd!! Wish that this blog had such nobility. where did you learn your theology? You make reference to widecsleeves and flowing dresses….and adulterating their calling…Really? Now you seriously need therapy. Your age would also be interesting.. You should ascertain very carefully your perspectives before you write.

Monasteries belong to the Community and not the dioceses so why would Bishop Deenihan appoint an Abbot or Prior, it is the monks in the Community who appoint the Abbot usually at a chapter every four years.
Robert J McCambridge Thank god they refused you as you certainly have serious problems and to write in foul language is shocking a trip to the confessional would not go a miss for you.
However Robert on a good note your vocation maybe not all lost as yet because you may have a serious vocation to the Oratory in Larne and that includes succession planning so you may end up with a mitre.

However, surely it is entirely disingenuous to suggest that a person who has been hurt should be goaded because of reporting his injury. You self-satisfied old buzzard. If I did need psychological help, I wouldn’t seek it from someone as self-conceited as you demonstrably are.

And, quite frankly, if I was in your situation, I’d keep my mouth shut – unless of course you were abused – which I don’t think happened in this situation. The ex-Abbot obviously thought that the line about Jonah and the Titanic was a great line, and it was meant to wound and crush. However, maybe I’m stupid but what does it mean? What is the connection between Jonah and an ill-fated ship?

Like

Jonah was cast off an ill-fated ship (Jonah 1:15). Robert McC would add to the unsteadiness of the monastic ship and would inevitably be dumped in an unstable future. A rocking ship needs stable and steady and loyal crew members. Robert McC was too full of himself and his problems to offer anything as valuable as that. The abbot’s remark might just mean, “in the past we could handle folk like you, but just now as our ship rocks and lurches, we cannot afford to take anyone on board who is not of a rocklike steadiness!” Maybe Robert McC, with his MA in Theology, thought he could save the ship…

In the case of Ampleforth, there must have been something pretty alarming revealed in recent Ofsted and ISI inspectors and reports for the Secretary of State to issue the ban on accepting new pupils. It really does raise the question as to how safe are the existing pupils if the place is deemed not safe for new pupils. There are some very serious questions to be asked.

Like

The last published ISI report (Jan 2020) was on an unannounced visit to Ampleforth. It does not look bad at all and said that requirements were met in all areas. That might explain the Ampleforth consternation. In the streamed Mass last Saturday, available on the abbey’s YouTube page, the celebrant opens by saying that they are in shock about the Secretary of State’s letter. I wonder what happened since January to cause Gavin Wilkinson to intervene so decisively?

Glenstal said that they had brought them in to inspect their school, there being no eqivalent independent schools inspectorate in Ireland. Therefore I was wondering why it wasn’t published on the ISI website, as other reports are.

The report wouldn’t be published because Ireland doesn’t come under the ISI’s remit. They were obviously inspecting as an advisory capacity, not an official one.

Pat I think you know the answer to one of your questions really. In a monastery in a congregation if it’s not able to elect an abbot a superior will be appointed by the abbot president and if it’s under a bishop the abbot or prior will be elected by the community and appointed by the bishop if they can’t.

Am I surprised at reports that Elijah does porn – and it will in all likelihood be gay porn – on the monastery computer? No. Stands to reason. It’s what we have come to expect. I could have written the script myself. So, spare us the faux outrage, please ! One sure way of seeing if he has been doing this is for Kirkby to have had a look at the browser history, although if Elijah is computer savvy he can delete the history. The point of all this is that there is a murky undercurrent to these monasteries and so many of the monks. There are all sorts of things going on which are far removed from their declared and professed life choice. I don’t mind that, if it is the reality, but I do want them to be honest about it, and if it doesn’t fit then shape up or ship out. That’s called honesty and integrity. I am intrigued by the anger and sadness of those who who are asked to leave seminaries and religious houses or not allowed to join them in the first place. It is not as if anyone has a right to be accepted by such places, and as others have pointed out, people routinely get turned down for lay jobs or lay university places. No doubt such lay people are are sad and angry at the time, but I am not sure that many grieve about it or lash out at their thrawters for decades afterwards, as many ex-sems do.
Abbot Mark Patrick should have expressed himself with more kindness and grace, but it was his decision to make.
I fully accept that seminaries and religious houses make diastrous errors. Think of all the priests who leave a few years after ordination. It must also stick in the craw that people such as Fr Brendan Smyth and the legion of other abusers were, “upon enquiry among the People of God and those concerned with their training”, found worthy, but this is a rough old world.
For their peace of mind I urge ex-sems and turned away applicants to let it go. At the final judgement all will be revealed, including whether or not they had a priestly vocation, but here and now we must deal with the hand given to us.

Like

“Abbot Mark Patrick should have expressed himself with more kindness and grace”
I agree – as another poster asked above – why did the Abbot choose to be so unkind in his remarks? Robert McC doesn’t tell us that.
Unless people are unfeeling monsters, they try to let people down gently. I can imagine that the Abbot did try to tell him, in a gentle way, that the community could not or would not accept him. R McC didn’t like it and probably goaded the abbot into making his ill-considered, but accurate remark.
Who knows? Since R McC is writing to the blog, perhaps he can tell us the circumstance of the exchange.

Like

I am reliably informed by a friend in Rostrevor that R McC was totally unsuited for admission into Glenstal and other Monastries too I gather. Too heavily reliant on alcohol is one of several issues plus disobedience. Trips outside to local public houses and causing friction within the community. Basically Abbot H was being honest with him but facing someone with such truths brings a degree of hurt. R McC is seeking revenge which is unfortunate. A very sorry episode for all concerned. Let us hope he receives the help he needs whilst knowing that he is unsuitable for any ministry within the Church.

Literally there was no one else to appoint as prior. The only solemn professed there are Kirby, Elijah, another monk (who is not on ordination track), and the whistleblower. The real scandal is not necessarily a young man with a same-sex orientation looking at porn( though the fact he has been made a monastic superior is troubling).

The *far* more serious scandal is (1) Dom Elijah’s prior, Kirby, speaking about the activity to a third party, and (2) the possibility that the porn story may have been revealed in confession.

Recall that the National Catholic Reporter quoted the Silverstream visitation report as saying: “The role of Superior and that of Confessor, in particular, need to be kept separate. It is very unwise for any Superior to hear the confession of his subordinates.”

This scandal keeps getting worse and worse. The Holy See needs to end this scandal machine. What else will be revealed? This could still be just the tip of the iceberg.

That is a relief. Still, the fact that Kirby is capable of sharing such sensitive and personal faults of his monks is a cause for very serious concern.

I may have an answer to the apparently disproportionate distress of those turned down for religious life. In the university where I trained as a nurse they had similar difficulties with harassment and even suicide attempts by those turned down for nursing. They concluded that the candidates were taking the fact they were training as health professionals to mean something virtuous about them such as that they were caring people. They took it to mean that if they were turned down it meant they were a bad person and reacted in a way which seemed out of proportion.
How much more would you feel badly if you have had to get to the point of thinking this may be God’s will for you! That along with buying into the clerical culture and portrayal of virtuousness, which as we know is itself frequently the result of problematic psychology!

“I am reliably informed by a friend in Rostrevor that R McC was totally unsuited for admission into Glenstal and other Monastries too I gather.”

Hello Dom Mark-Ephrem Nolan, I can’t say that it is pleasant to be re-acquainted with you. “Reliably informed”! Are you sure? I rather think that your opinions are tendentious and ill-informed. I note with interest that you deceived Abbot Paul Emmanuel of Le Bec about your intention to found a monastery in Northern Ireland and only did so with the complicit assent of Dom Michaelangelo Tiribilli, the Abbot General, a brute, who paid for your building.

According to the customs of the monastic life, your foundation was an act of insurrection. I met Dom Paul Emmanuel in New Mexico and asked him if he had visited your foundation and he said “It’s too difficult to contemplate.” I note that self-respecting Irishmen have stayed away from your foundation in large numbers. The Psalmist was correct: “Nisi Dominus aedificaverit domum, in vanem laborant qui aedificant eam.” (Psalm 126)

I would expect monks to embrace a vision of peace, as suggested by your motto ‘Pax’, but instead, where you are concerned, I have been branded as dysfunctional because, I suspect, that I was obviously not enthralled by you. You called the monastery in Italy that was my temporary destination whilst ‘en route’ to the School of Classics, Philosophy and Theology at the University of Kent to finish the 2nd volume of my Master’s thesis and derided me with ribald burlesque. If you had physically attacked me that would not be regarded as ‘grave matter’ by the Codex Iuris Canonicii, but calumny and detraction are because, as you must know the Commandments from Catholic school (Ex. 20:16) “Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.” False witness is of two kinds, public and private. We may either seek to damage our neighbour by giving false evidence against him in a court of justice, or simply calumniate him to others in our social intercourse with them. Of this you are guilty and unrepentant. That is unworthy of a person vowed to ‘Conversatio Morum’, and of any other person, religious or irreligious. I am not going to denounce you with coarse adjectives, but I will continue to pray for you and your confreres, in the hope that you cease and desist your unremitting war against my person.

In Faith,

Robert J. McCambridge

My theory is Robert McC is perturbed for the better monks’ and monasteries’ sakes more than for his own. Rather than have a fresh-thinking individual (who is no ignoramus to judge from those degrees) send an SOS, Henderon and his henchmen wanted to arrange deckchairs. (Jonah converted a whole nation.) How implicated were they themselves in causing the problems there?

I’ve noticed a recurrence in the RCC of melodramatising bullies: “what a shame your elbow got jogged”, “what a shame God thinks you’re too stupid to not deserve to be subjected to this sh*t”. And people who think an exotic, quaint nationality is sufficient cover for hysterical / manic / devious behaviours.

I shudder to think of the actual motivations of commenters taking a “simplistic” line on Robert McC’s statements. There appears no suggestion of self-pity in his statements in my reading.
