CONFRONTING CACKLE DALY – A READER’S QUESTION.

Yesterday a reader wrote:

“Pat, please expand on the Cathal Daly story. Describe how you felt approaching the altar; how Cathal dealt with it and how the parishioners in the pews felt. None of the hierarchy are any good when it’s put up to them in public.

Dear Reader,

At the time I was a young 33-year-old, who still had some faith in the institution – a faith I absolutely no longer have.

I stood in front of Cahal Day as he preached about love, forgiveness and reconciliation and still refusing to meet me or be reconciled with me.

The other two occasions were at Christmas Midnight Mass in the Mater Hospital, Belfast – and at Christian Unity Week in a Belfast parish.

I made sure not to disrupt the Mass in any way.

When Daly started preaching I left the pew, genuflected to the tabernacle and stood in front of him silently and not moving.

I placed myself between him and the congregation as a sign that our disagreement was a fracture on the Body of Christ.

I stared at him all through his homily.

Daly never looked up and kept on reading.

But his face was scarlet and his jugular arteries were doing a co-ordinated dance.

I’m told he lost it in the sacristy and went home like an angry Jack Russell.

At the time Daly was lecturing Catholics and Protestants to be reconciled while refusing to be reconciled with a fellow priest.

From October 1985 until July 1986 I waged a protest campaign on Daly.

He hid in his house sending the clergy letters that I was preventing him do his work.

I also brought him to the Industrial Tribunal and the High Court – where he was forced to sit as a defendant.

Of course, I didn’t win.

These guys have the establishment tipping their caps to them.

But I gave the little Hitler a run for his money.

Daly believed the voice of the bishop was the voice of God.

I once asked him if that meant that when he broke wind, God broke wind🤮

These arrogant bastards lorded it over priests and laity for ages.

More people need to stand up to them.

When you do stand up to them, they fold like all challenged bullies fold.

Dear Bishop, I asked you to expand and wanted to thank you for doing so. They hate a ‘show’ being made and hate being exposed as hypocrites. Perhaps you were wrong to do what you did but I suspect you were left with no other option and you conducted yourself respectfully by just standing in silent protest. It is weird that some humans inflict such hardship on other humans in ordinary life and in religious life. But there is nothing Christian about exerting power over another especially when it is a false clerical (Roman Empire) power which has nothing got to do with the God of Christians. Well done you and thank you for expanding.

A good person and priest needs a heart more than a head.

Daly had no heart. As they say in Dublin: ‘Where his heart should have been there was a swinging brick”.

Physically of course he was a midget – a little old nun

Pat I wonder if clergy still get persecuted by their bishops just like you where. Speaking out and taking a different line is not tolerated it seems. Some bishops have little personality or compassion and punish priests in subtle ways.

Daly was no cerebral giant, despite his self-evaluation here.
Did you read any of the abstract tripe he wrote? And I do mean ‘tripe’. His musings on Natural Law are just a little short of risible.
If Daly had academic standing, it was because others in the same orbit were either sycophants, or too cowardly to oppose the belligerent little bully.

Why do we have so many feckin singing priests and why do they need to perform? Do they not get enough attention as it is, at Mass?says:

That camp crooner only has an audience because he is a priest. I still haven’t had explained to me why an Irish priest living in Ireland was allowed on ‘Britain’s Got Talent’. Do English people living in England appear on ‘Ireland’s Got Talent’?

Like

Ray Kelly was on BGT because the bigger the audience the better, as far as he is concerned. IGT is too small a stage for him. Who looks after the parishes when these singers are doing their stuff? Look at Liam Lawton – a priest of K&L who has been a full-time musicician while octogenarians in poor health soldier on in parishes. These singing priests are so vain.

People like him are the reason the lace and Latin brigade are on the up. I must say I thought he was a secular priest, which is a proper vocation in itself but diocesan priests are either about doing unspeakable things, depressed or total showmen.

One of the main problems with the appointment of bishops has been the appointment of academics and desk men.

Bishops should be chosen from experienced and compassionate pastors.

Agreed. Whatever Pope Francis’ weaknesses, I am sure he, too, feel this way. The selection system he has inherited needs to change. Something else to add to a long list.

I’m not a fan of Francis in many areas, but at least he has stopped appointing academics and desk men as bishops, on the whole.

Academics and desk men are prized when bishops are seen as efficient administrators, alomg the lines of Roman imperial governors (isn’t the diocese a Roman imperial administrative unit) and so that they could be cute hoors when interviewed on the telly.

There are too many clergy who think of themselves as talented singers / actors / characters. I find The Priests vomit making with their camp, twee, saccharine act, all wrapped up in homely spirituality. At the same time, they are as conspicuous by their absence as by their presence, and I think other clergy get fed up having to backfill to enable them to flaunt themselves around the country and world. Idiots like SugarRay should just be told to zip it. The liturgical actors with their adopted idiosyncrasies are just sad – be they trendy ones who go off piste, or the lacy frilly traditionalists who prance around playing at living in the 19th century. Increasingly we see both types in our parishes. Odd antics from odd clergy. Spare us !

How do you know that the majority of RC priests are as you generously praised?
Are you capable of omnipresence and do you spend, therefore, all your time with each and every one of them similtaneously so that you can make such a supreme and confident judgement about their moral character?
Or did you just type a load of lying shite, with your fingers crossed that someone might actually believe the garbage that trips from RC clerical toadies like you?

Bishop Pat, never will we forget the day in Waterford & Lismore when you approached Phonsie for Holy Communion during the funeral in Tramore. Like Cahal Daly, he too was scarlet with rage even when told of your presence in the sacristy before Mass. When he shouted during Holy Communion that you were excommunicated he was trembling with rage. When he called his Priests forward on the sanctuary to have you thrown out only one cleric approached and couldn’t do anything. Our only regret here at the time was that it wasn’t televised. In the sacristy after the burial he was raging so much no one dared approach him.

Like

@6.15pm I think people were just so shocked and taken unawares to reach for their phones. People in Tramore that day were truly shocked by the actions of bishop Cullinan. Even poor Bishop Lee who was there looked totally perplexed. So much so lots of people went to the nearby pub afterwards not just to warm up but to have a good old gas about it. It was an awful spectacle.

Do you think Jesus whinged about being bullied on the cross.
This is for me what indicates these RC cultists are not Christian – it’s all about their church and their priests. These things are clearly idols and they don’t worship God at all.

Cold tonight up here along the north coast. At least my big chair is comfy and my evening libation is at hand.
My thoughts on Cahal Brendan Daly. I knew him well. Daly was ill at ease with people. His life, focus, scholarship, be all and end all, was the Catholic Church. He sheltered in that narrow confine of like minded clerics, usually Irish speaking and academic. With them he was comfortable. Out with that select bunch he was ill at ease.
His life was cloistered in the church. From early boyhood he lead a very sheltered life. Studious and focused on intense learning in preparation for ordination. He had very little life experience out in the big bad world. The realities of the lives of working class people he learned of from others.
He was always restless when not with his type of people, fearful of being criticised or questioned. As a defence and to ward off challenge he used the old ‘voice of the Bishop is the voice of Christ’ nonsense. Many silly, brainwashed catholics, priests included, believed that tosh.
Apart from an arrogance and sense of entitlement he suffered from ‘small man syndrome’
Pat, I have no doubt that after your escapade in the cathedral that day not only would he be furious but for days afterwards his self confidence would have been shattered and his nerves would have been shot to hell.

Like

I love your last paragraph.

Yes, Charlie Daly would most certainly have been furious afterwards and his nerves shattered. Why? Because such was his conceit, and absolute conviction, that his/God’s authority and dignity had been challenged that he would ruminated about it for…well, for weeks, even months, to be honest, not just for days.

Daly was taught a lesson on that occasion and brought low.

His self-value was in direct and inverse proportion to his physical stature.

Like

I know when Daly entered Ara Coeli after O’ Fiaich they didn’t know what hit them. Some staff were dismissed by Cahal, some chose to leave. Daly and his new young cleric secretary were simply little bullies in attitude and stature. One housekeeper left in total tears because Daly could not tolerate her friendly approach to visitors becausp
e Tomas had them all at ease and encouraged them to be friendly . The place was never the same again, Jim Clyne ended up a nervous wreck. Despite his shortcomings the Archdiocese of Armagh lost its way and was never the same after the death of O’ Fiaich. Tom Fee and Cahal were chalk and cheese.

ROFL
Priests live with everyone paying attention to them, pressing money in their hands and not contradicting their opinions.
Not a recipe for good relationships with others or a balanced personality.
This blog is good because it’s one of the few places people actually contradict priests and those who don’t like what’s said here really should pay attention, because amongst your shrinking congregations and parents pulling their children away from priests to keep them safe, what is said here is an edited version of what is said elsewhere. Personally I would think it better to listen in a receptive way, because your fortress and persecution mentality will lead to civil authorities taking power over your corrupt cult.
Btw you’re not being persecuted, you are free to practice your religion, but you persecute everyone else by subverting access to healthcare and human rights.

Like

@7:53pm “healthcare”. You mean baby killing there don’t you? Sure you’re allowed to do that legally now. 6,666 babies slaughtered last year in your brave new world – skulls crushed, torn tiny limb from tiny limb, little beating hearts stopped with the stab of a needle. And “human rights”? Sure can’t you do whatever the hell you like now in any case? Two fellas or two wans can “marry” each other now and marry someone different next year. You really are up your own ass.

Your sneering, judgemental attiude is partly responsible, on an institutional Church level, for the very practices that appall and provoke you.

The Irish have not found the institutional Catholic Church a loving one historically, and if they did not find it so, they were more than likely willing to listen to other voices which claimed to speak justice and comoassion. And this is just what they did.

Roman Catholic priests and religious have played a consistent snd catalyising role in turning Irish people from doing the loving thing to something that is purely and utterly evil: voting, in effect, for abortion.

Save your contempt more for them than anyone else.

Baby-killers think it’s a slam dunk to say “if you don’t like abortion, don’t have one”.
That would be like saying “if you don’t like slavery, don’t have a slave” or “if you don’t like theft, don’t steal”. People are entitled to say that morally evil acts are so corrosive to the common good, and in the case of abortion, fatal to the weakest and most vulnerable, that a good society should find such acts illegal.
Is the pro-abortion commenter the one we excommunicated, just how as a surgeon removes a cancer that is harming the body?

Your ability to read may be beyond question, but your comprehension?😕
Read my post again, with ponderous plodding. I called abortion ‘purely and utterly evil’.
I do not, in any way, morally approve abortion. But I will not shrink either from calling out the institutional Roman Catholic Church in Ireland for the atrocious example it historically set on love and, therefore, for its cataylising the turning away from love by the Irish people, especially from the most vulnerable and needy, the unborn.
Turn your anger instead on those most deserving of it here: the self-serving priests and religious of the Roman Catholic Church, especially in Ireland and, in particular, its bishops. Had all of these truly loved and led in imitation of Christ, these appalling events would NOT have occurred.
