Shocked Catholic Church leaders claim they have no knowledge of transactions
Senior Catholic Church leaders have expressed shock over explosive revelations the Vatican has secretly transferred $2.3billion to Australia in the last six years, claiming they haven’t seen a cent of the money.

Transfers from the Vatican to Australia rose from $71.6m in 2014 to $137.1m in 2015 before doubling again to $295m in 2016 and peaking at $581.3m in 2017.
More than $422m was transferred in 2018, an additional $491.8m in 2019 and $294.8m this financial year to date, The Australian reported.
An investigation into $2.3billion of secret transactions from The Vatican to Australia continues.
The individual recipients of the transactions haven’t been disclosed.
Australian Federal Police confirmed it continues to investigate information from Austrac about the Vatican’s transactions to Australia.
Several senior Catholic Church figures, who declined to be named, were stunned to hear about the transferred funds, claiming to the publication they had no knowledge or received a single cent.
The Austrac figures also revealed $117.4m was sent from Australia to the Vatican since 2014, including $7.5million to date in 2020.
The transactions were disclosed in response to questions from federal Liberal senator Concetta Fierravanti-Wells.
‘In the light of the investigations at the Vatican into corruption, embezzlement and money laundering, with charges already being laid and Vatican officials suspended, we need to know where the money went,’ she told The Australian.

When it comes to RCC scandals it’s either sex or money or both.
It’s interesting that all this money started to go to Australia after Pell became the Vatican money supremo.
I thought countries around the world contributed to the Vatican.
Why would the Vatican be sending money to Australia?
Was it Vatican Bank money laundering or money clearing?
Will we ever know?

These are internal Church matters and no concern of Australia or indeed this blog. Australia should fix its miscarriage of justice-prone legal system before worrying about money transfers from one part of the global Church to another part.

Think what you will of Cardinal Pell. I believe the man was set up by evil men in the Curia. This headline is yet another way to try and discredit the man and why? He was getting too close to the truth! He will not be the first Prince of the Church to suffer as a result of dirty tricks and he wont be the last. Sadly Pat you have fallen into the trap of helping those who are conspiring to bring him down by peddling what they want you to believe. They thought he would be nicely out of the way but not so. They thought the same and did happen of Albino Luciani.

My take is, the reason Becciu got outed over something else (which he otherwise wouldn’t have be) is he OPPOSED this (once he discovered his underlings had deceived him over what it was about). The recent witnesses didn’t see it either. Note Victoria wouldn’t investigate. Why wouldn’t Victoria investigate?
Taking a random name out of a hat, the reason why Abp Nichols gets into deeper water than he wanted, is due to some strange factors operating on him. I by chance eyewitnessed how one of the archbishops was pliable to someone or other.

I’m beginning to think disreputable approaches by persons of alleged standing within the RCC to church personnel – including when in training – is less rare than I thought. If a bunch of people are doing it, perhaps it is because lots of bunches of people were always doing it.
It would now be exceedingly useful for example if a secular charity would survey all RCC priests, ex-priests and ex-seminarians about such approaches and, keeping their identity secret, would publish the names of all seminary staff during periods concerned, plus the VDs of other students at the time. (Even ringleaders among seminarians had someone put them up to it / egg them on.)
Those VDs and staff etc are material witnesses. A parallel survey could cover other institutions (Houses of this or that). These surveys should include “favour doing” in any circumstances. It’s strange that strong drink is considered an institutional necessity to church, e.g lovingly filmed ale sipping but no talk of ‘er indoors. The equivalent to small beer of old would be watered down shandy, not a necessity in days of good water.

I’ve never understood the nonsense of seminaries, convents and monasteries of getting people up at the screak of dawn to prayer when they are half-asleep, irritable and hungry, none of which are conducive to prayer or a calm state of mind. I asked the Middle Dean in Maynooth if 7.15am was intrinsically holier than 8.30am or 9.00am. He had no answer except “it’s in the Rule”.

Wel, I was at Mass today and the priest quoted a long section of St Augustine’s sermon, which essentially said that if it wasn’t for original sin then Jesus would not have needed to come as saviour etc. etc. I followed? up to a point. It makes sense if you swallow wholesale the biblical and christian narrative. But, then I started to think while he was speaking, what if original sin is just a confection in order to kickstart the narrative, a bit like yeast in bread ? So, I’ve been thinking about it all day. And, you know, I wonder if this business of original sin is just some need on our part to explain the world as it is rather than just accepting that is the way the world is ? We search for all sorts of explanations for things, and that I have decided is the genesis of most stories about salvation and God, not just the christian one. However, there is a big bit of me that wants to go even earlier than original sin and see whether the world and nature was so perfect after all ? These narratives are just too convenient and contrived. I understand why, because we ask questions and we want answers to comfort us. But, maybe we need not to have the answers and just put up with being unknowing and uncomfortable ? Just some Christmas musings on my part. I’ll still have turkey and christmas pudding and pretend it’s all about the Baby Jesus. Nevertheless, increasingly it doesn’t satisfying me anymore. Not knowing and living with that seems more real, truer and more honest than made up narratives which are designed to make me feel better.

Without original sin the whole of Christianity falls apart. It is actually the key doctrine, not the resurrection.

I guess we wouldn’t need saving if not for original sin. So no Christmas incarnation. The Church better have it right about original sin, therefore. Or, are all those biblical accounts just a bit of fake news ? If so, it has certainly kept those who peddle them in a job for a few thousands of years. Any more views on original sin ?

I think not. Judaism and Christianity existed before Augustine. In fact, Judaism’s reading of Genesis 2-3 has not resulted in its sharing in Christianity’s theology of original sin and a fall. Augustine’s position over and against Pelagius is overstated in most of Christian history climaxing at Trent – an imbalance which still needs to be redressed.

6.47: Rest with your questioning faith. An unquestioned faith is shallow. I look to the Nativity narrative as God entering our world in the person of Jesus to inaugurate a new humanity, a new beginnings. If we focus just on the “baby Jesus” and ignore the message of CHRIST in his ministry, then we fail to grasp God. Christmas by its very nature, surrounded by gospel narratives, lights, cribs, floral displays, gift giving and simple liturgy with ancient carols at mass draws us towards awe, wonder and mystery. Christmas helps us refind beauty. When we find beauty and acknowledge its gift, we are entering the Divine, the transcendence of life. Reflective faith leads us to explore the human and the Divine. Christmas is and can be a catalyst for rebirth and new beginnings….
