CHRISTMAS DAY 2020.

THE ORATORY CHRISTMAS 2020

As far as I’m concerned there is only one topic worth discussing on Christmas Day – Jesus and His birth.

In that sense, lets concentrate on Jesus and His Kingdom today – and not how anyone has betrayed him and it.

We have a very dark year – Covid, right wing conspiracy theories, the denial of democracy, etc, etc.

The Covid vaccine is a looming light, thank God.

But Jesus is the REAL and LASTING light.

So today lets concentrate on Jesus.

Let’s also concentrate on our loved ones.

I wish you all a VERY HAPPY CHRISTMAS.

CHRISTMAS MASS FROM THE ORATORY.

Not all Covid narrative sceptics are extreme right wingers. The left / right paradigm has been so well engrained in many that they struggle to see beyond it. Here’s a good website that is libertarian small “c” conservative and doesn’t to the best of my inexhaustive attention go anywhere near a conspiracy theory although the more the Covid response ignores rationality you naturally feel less inclined to believe the response is incompetent and more inclined to entertain the previously dismissed.
A very Happy Christmas to you Pat, one and all! https://lockdownsceptics.org/

Watched Midnight Mass from Clifton Cathedral. The BBC made the brutalist concrete edifice as good looking as it could be with decent lighting. Looks like the choirmaster used a lot of his own music, turgid stuff really. Why don’t people just stick to the real masters ? And + Declan Lang did not look good at all – old and decrepit and shaking. Looked him up. Born 1n 1950 so only 70 years old. I do wonder why we require priests and bishops to carry on regardless, up until 75. In any other walk of life the man would be well retired by now. Is it more of the ‘special calling’ that the clergy think they have, and their being indispensable ? I know one priest who is well in to his 80s and still working away, saying he can’t retire because there is nobody to follow him. So, I told him that when he does keel over and his finger comes out of the dyke it will give in and the water will flood in anyway. It’s not his indispensable finger that is needed to keep things going. It’s radical change by the Church. I guess + Lang will keep in his finger, rather than allowing himself to retire and relax and look after himself. I feel sorry for him.

+Declan has Parkinson’s disease and has for many years. He refuses to let it take over his life and he is perfectly capable of carrying out his day to day duties with reasonable adjustments made. I think it’s quite admirable that he continues to work.

I’m sorry to hear that Lang has Parkinson’s. Isn’t that all the more reason why the man should be relieved of his duties and allowed to go in to retirement and look after himself ? In any other walk of life a man at 70 with that condition would be retired, not just because of health, but because he was 70 ! What is it about clergy that makes them think that they are so different ? To be honest, I do think that it stems from this ridiculous notion of the exalted sense of what ordination has done to them, and an obligation to go on and on….. That kind of clerical mindset works, as we have seen, in other ways as well – think lack of accountability, assuming wisdom and authority etc. And where did that get us ? So, I do not so much admire Lang for soldiering on. I just think he’s misguided and misled, and needs to move aside and not think of himself as so especially indispensable. He can still do good if he wants by praying and doing what he can. He does not need to shoulder the burdens of a big job and responsibility in his condition and age. Perhaps he’s not doing as well as it should be done as a consequence ? It is silly. Nichols is another who thinks he’s indispensable. “And so we go on”, he said after IICSA ! And his sycophantic brother bishops gave him their support ! What a nonsense.

Bruce Forsyth passed at 89 but he was still presenting Strictly at 85 which I thought was over the top. Ronnie Corbett was the same, at 86 and in hospital on his last legs, his wife refused say he would be retiring from show business.

Pfizer vaccine costs £15 and needs to be kept at -70 degrees in highly expensive freezers whereas Britain’s Oxford vaccine costs £3 and can be kept at -3 to -8 degrees in an ordinary fridge. In the meantime, British people come first.

10.36: You should have stayed in your log cabin instead of spouting your disgusting, ignorant slur on the chaplain. Your heart is closed to the CHRIST CHILD.. How sad and pathetic of you.

Like

Agreed. I rather liked the video. How very nasty of Anonymous @ 10.36am. Today of all days, Christmas Day (peace on earth and to all people).
So much for PB focusing on JESUS and loved ones. What a sad case @10.36am to spoil this day.

What a shame… you have somewhat spoiled my day.

That chaplain McGrattan has the look of a future bishop about him. Also his association with QUB won’t do him any harm, C B Daly, P J Walsh, Tony Farquhar were all in post there, one way or other.
1-20pm. What are you on about What slur?

Like

Oh come on, it will be easy to find a slur and a scandal torpedo to put an end to McGrattan’s illusions about being a bishop. Simple ! I assure you ! Certainly from his past, and I’m pretty certain you will find enough evidence from his QUB activities and role.

Bishop Pat. A new investigation is under way by Police Scotland yesterday. Cardinal Keith O’Brien blamed in the wrong

Like

Is that KOB is being investigated for other wrongdoing, or the fact that he was wrongly blamed originally ? Will he be another Pell and be exonerated, posthumously ? I don’t think so. Even without knowing in any detail what he is supposed to have done, just seeing and listening to him go hard line about sexuality and homosexuality was indication enough to me to suggest that KON had huge personal internal discordance with his own sexuality, and whilst condemning those who were like him at the same time was playing out his frustrations and self-loathing himself. It’s classic. The more vitriolic and hateful someone is, the more you know that they have an issue themselves. And more than likely they are acting out the exact thing that they condemn. That’s clergy for you ….!

9:51pm on Christmas Day is being mischievous. O’Brien confessed, apologised and resigned. He wasn’t blamed in the wrong and died “in disgrace”. Another “mixer” acting the goat on Buckley’s blog probably half canned on Christmas night.

Dominic Mc Grattan has aged considerably. He’s quite young but looks much older. The high collar, which most of the most recently ordained wear, adds years onto him.

I see the Redemptorists now have a partners with the chaplaincy at Queen’s. What’s that all about? I wonder why? 🌈

Yes, so many of these older priests refuse to retire at 75. Our diocese has loads of them still working in their 80’s and giving their PP a hard time. Lack of leadership has allowed it to continue unchecked and unchallenged.
