Bishop Pat, we would love to here about your Christmas Day – every detail – including the presents and the doggies. Feck the begrudgers.

It’s strange how Andrew Black went from low church Church of Ireland to lace, smells and bells.

F. R. Bolton’s “The Caroline Tradition Of The Church of Ireland” may shed some light on that.
This goes back to the fifties and may be outdated but it retains a certain charm.

Happy feast of Stephen!

Andrew comes across as a sincere man. He also presents as someone who has suffered to follow his dream. However, he gets it right when he links his journey with happiness. God wants us to be happy. If he believed following his journey was going to lead him to a life of self-sacrificing unhappiness he would have been right to reject it.

One could quibble with some of his theological positions: reformed churches are less clearly founded by Christ; Christ chose (only) twelve disiples; individual interpretation of scripture is a Protestant phenomenon etc. It strikes me as if his initial attraction was deeper than any of this ideas, all of which could be robustly argued.

I enjoyed the clip. Thanks for posting. May 2021 help him to relax more into his current faith community. He’s very well placed to minister in the area of ecumenism.

The sectarian arrogance and presumption of your post is beyond words.
Christ originally chose just twelve followers clearly for symbolic reasons: as representative of the twelve tribes of Israel. But he no more intended his followers to remain 12 than he did his message of redemption to remain with the Jewish people.
Your smug Roman Catholic conceit and self-satisfaction is what made the Protestant Reformation inevitable and, indeed, a redemptive necessity. And sadly, it remains so, given the level of moral degeneration among Roman Catholic priests and religious.
Christ allowed the Protestant Reformation as a warning to the Church of Rome that it was not what he approved, but it did not listen. It still isn’t listening. Nor are you.

Actually, dear 10:51, it’s the ideas in the video clip I was responding to. So before you rush to rash judgement I’d suggest you take the time to listen to it in toto.
I was using the concepts and terminology there. I happen not to agree with him, at least, with much of what he says. I believe in ecclesia semper reformanda. I don’t like the word ‘convert’ to refer to movement within Christian denominations. I simply didn’t wish to jump down Andrew’s throat as you seem to wish to do so to mine.

At one stage, Gerry from the northern counties claimed to have two doctorates. It’s clear nuance isn’t part of his literary armory. Which leaves one free to speculate which parts of delusion he has graduated in.

So ‘Gerry’ is from Donegal? Narrows considerably the field for this character’s full identification.
Good detecting.
Carry on. 😉

‘However, he (Andrew Black) gets it right when he links his journey (Actually, his jumping ship from the Church of Ireland to the severely listing ‘Barque of Peter’.) with happiness. God wants us to be happy.’
Did you give this egregiously sectarian tripe even a moment’s consideration before posting it?
Earlier I called you, through your post at 6.30, arrogant and presumptuous beyond words. I was way off the mark, because the above quotation (whose significance I initially overlooked) raises the stakes here skyhigh. It implies that God believes Christians cannot be happy unless they are also Roman Catholics. (Tell this to the victims of child-abusing priests and religious, and to their parents and families.) Specifically, it implies that Andrew Black would never have been happy had he remained in the Church of Ireland.
Words fail me. They truly do. Especially since Jesus was a Jew; a perfect Jew, but a Jew nonetheless.

We don’t have low church and high church that’s a Latin thing like the frills and lace in the SSPX and the Latin Mass Society.
We are the church for the Poor long live His Holiness the Supreme Pontiff Francis.

Don’t be stupid The Holy Church answered what is erroniously called the reformation, which was in fact a rebellion of heretics and apostates like yourself. By giving us the Glorious Counter Reformation and restoring true doctrine.

Tough couple of days. Said 4 Masses, get to keep all the offerings, over £2k. Had several bottles of red wine, lots of expensive food and lots of sleep in my water bed paid for by the Parish. Glad the volunteer housekeeper is in tomorrow to do my washing and ironing. Night all!

Thank you for Christmas Mass, Bishop Pat, it was lovely.
23rd December is the anniversary of the death of my three-year-old baby cousin, Francesca Bimpson. Francesca died in Alder Hey Children’s hospital on 23rd December, 2008 after an arson attack on their faily home on 2nd December earlier that same month.
The attack was carried out by a jealous ex of a family member.
This time of year is very emotional for us as a family, and with Francesca’s dad, big Kieran, taking his own life in August of year, 2020, I cannot even begin to tell you how difficult it has been for us as a family.
Francesca is an angel in heaven, now, always looking down on us and the kids.

Also, I am on the road to recovery from PTSD caused by what happened to me, and doing good, however, not having any feedback or acknowledgment from the authorities regarding what on earth is going on has caused my mum terrible pain and anguish. For myself it is a snack in the face and painful.
Is this the price one pays for speaking up about abuse? I dunno — I hope not.
For myself it isn’t the easiest of Christmases, but what choice do me and my family have? We don’t get to choose; it feels we are not worthy of the rights of other citizens.
Now I know why I entered that Court room with only my mum and the file of evidence: I guess everybody else knew the danger I was putting myself in by even daring to speak up s out the abuse. No?
Time will tell.

I do forgive those who have hurt myself and my family, but forgiveness is a journey which is not too hard for myself because of my faith is in Christ.
… He is my light and my salvation!
—-
The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? The Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?
When the wicked, even mine enemies and my foes, came upon me to eat up my flesh, they stumbled and fell.
Though an host should encamp against me, my heart shall not fear: though war should rise against me, in this will I be confident.
One thing have I desired of the Lord, that will I seek after; that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life, to behold the beauty of the Lord, and to enquire in His temple.
For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.
And now shall mine head be lifted up above mine enemies round about me: therefore will I offer in His tabernacle sacrifices of joy; I will sing, yea, I will sing praises unto the Lord.
Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice: have mercy also upon me, and answer me.
When thou saidst, Seek ye my face; my heart said unto thee, Thy face, Lord, will I seek.
Hide not thy face far from me; put not thy servant away in anger: thou hast been my help; leave me not, neither forsake me, O God of my salvation.
When my father and my mother forsake me, then the Lord will take me up.
Teach me thy way, O Lord, and lead me in a plain path, because of mine enemies.
Deliver me not over unto the will of mine enemies: for false witnesses are risen up against me, and such as breathe out cruelty.
I had fainted, unless I had believed to see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.
Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen thine heart: wait, I say, on the Lord.” xx
— Psalm 27

I didn’t break the Order, I made my report to the authorities, as instructed to do so by the the Order from the closed Civil Court.
My mother insisted we record it as proof, in evidence, of correct adherence.

Gerry from the north of Ireland is scraping the bottom of the rhetorical barrell yet again. That the percentage of sexual abusers among clergy and religious is the same as it is for the general population is conveniently skipped over by him.

I dare you to name ‘Gerry’ fully. Go on. You imply you know the full identification of a poster to this blog who has long been a very long thorn in the effete side of ‘Holy Mother Church’ and her priests, especially on the island of Ireland.

Go on. Be a man. Name him fully. Because when you do…and if he sues…I’ll come out from the shadows to prove you wrong.

You’re gutless, the lot of you.😕
