THIS BLOG IS ANTI HYPOCRISY AND NOT ANTI GAY.

A small number of lying, guilty and disingenuous priests, seminarians and monks have tried to claim that this blog and it’s author is anti gay 🤣

The facts prove absolutely differently.

I have been an openly gay man who has been public about himself for nearly a quarter of a century.

I am in a publicly celebrated gay relationship and civil partnership for over 13 years.

I have conducted gay and lesbian blessings and religious marriages internationally for the past 34 years.

I have conducted spirituality events for the gay community at various times including at gay pride in Dublin and Belfast.

I have rescued gay and lesbian individuals from the steps and driveways of their family homes after being disowned by their families. On one such occasion I was threatened with a shotgun by the gay person’s father.

When the HIV / AIDS virus was at it’s very worst I ministered on a daily basis to those suffering, dying people at Belvoir Hospital in Belfast and afterwards comforted their partners, family and friends – some of whom keep in touch and visit me to this day.

One one occasion I travelled from Larne to Woking to visit a young man, at his request, from my Belfast youth club days who was dying of AIDS and who had very bad Kaposi’s sarcoma (KS) and invited him to come to my home to live and be nursed and cared for. He died before we got him to Larne.

Currently I minister to several people including a priest who is hiv+ and a priest who has gender dysphoria.

HYPOCRISY

I do not want to see the priesthood 100% homosexualised.

It has nothing to do with gay people.

It has to do with a gay cabal after the fashion of Ted McCarrrick, taking over the priesthood.

It is also about monks and priests taking public vows of chastity and celibacy and flouting those vows promiscuously in private.

This us not a gay issue.

It’s a hypocrisy issue.

And this priestly gay cabal is trying to use ordinary, decent gays into thinking it’s a gay issue.

Pat, finished the bottle of wine now (haha). I know you have some enemies but your friends know where you stand. I know priests who are known for visiting lay-bys and saunas. I have never been to any myself. It has never appealed to me frankly (not that I’m a saint). But, I have always been uncomfortable with the fact that some priests do this. It is incompatible with being a priest. Full stop.

However he also demonstrates the point repeatedly made here, which is that priests know exactly what their colleagues are up to, so the apparently good ones are the same as the bad ones.
In fact there is no such thing as a good RC priest.

“Fr Tommy” is not a priest. His writing style is too simple and uneducated for a priest, even one trained in a hedge school such as Waterford.

Like

He does compare favourably to other priests who post here and insist on using Latin origin or otherwise seemingly complex words such as inane or abhor. These do not indicate good English which as Fowler and Quiller-Couch rightly say, is marked by simplicity and an avoidance of complex words and constructions. He therefore comes across as better educated than the other touchy old queens who fancy using long words gives them an appearance of culture.

The main issue concerning this blog is, as you say + Pat, HYPOCRISY – and especially the hypocrisy that exists in the lives of so many clergy. This in not just a question of the odd slip, or wrong turn, or occasional action by clergy, but a systemic and conscious decision to live their lives in a manner that is in direct contravention of their public promises / vows, in particular celibacy / chastity. So much of this hypocritical behaviour is homosexual. So, the visits of Abbot Purcell to the Boilerhouse gay sauna for unprotected anal sex are not just a momentary slip but a decision to act hypocritically and in contravention of what he is telling us in public. How can we trust a Church and a clerical caste that presumes to tell us about what is right and what is wrong, and what we should do or what we should not do, who presume to be the mouthpiece of God himself, when they are living such an hypocritical lie in their own lives ? If these men were to be trusted and were honest, they would in the present circumstances leave the priestly ministry and then be free to live their lives as they want. So many of them refuse to do so. They continue to live duplicitous, hypocritical lives, often at our expense. + Pat is right to call this out on his blog. It is not anti-homosexual. That just happens to be the behaviour of the hypocrisy of so many clergy these days. It is anti-hypocrisy.

Spot on. Of course we can’t trust them and the naive who still hold these frauds in esteem must be warned.

Perhaps such widespread patterns are more correctly understood as a function of the churches’ immoral historical rejection of same-sex love and relations and, since the 11th century, the determination of the Latin church to link ministerial priesthood to celibacy absolutely. The last millennium and the current practice of the Christian churches have show that such an absolutist position is not and was never workable.

Let him and her who can, live as celibate priests!
Let him and her who cannot, live as married priests!

Like

The logic of that is that they cannot keep vows and promises of celibacy so how can we be confident that they will keep the vows of marriage?

Like

Because there is a difference between the two ways of life. I do take your point of course that clearly only immoral wastrels are priests.

You might not like what + Pat says, but you can be sure that what you see is what you get with him. He has no need to be hypocritical or economical with the truth and lays it out as it is. We all know the intimate details of his life and history, some of which he had the perfect right to keep private if he so desired, but others thought differently and trampled all over his right to privacy. He has nothing to hide. So, I believe what he says. Unlike with so many Roman Catholic clergy and bishops. I find that I have to double guess them now and examine what they are saying to me and how it fits their agenda and their habitual lying and dissimulation of the truth. They have brought this on themselves. It is the fruit of their hypocrisy, lying and coverup.

Like

The comments so far are a rewriting of history by Pat himself. Alll long comnents are from the same pen. There is Hypocrisy in the lives of all of us, some great hypocrisy, unacceptable, some just the blindness to our flaws and sins while thrashing others. Pat is not and never was an innocent victim. He has contributed much to his own pains, hurts and misery. It us a grotesque injustice to portray all clerics as proverbial hypocrites. Thank God I have worked mostly with supremely good, dedicated and very holy guys and presently have two colleagues who are amazingly inspiring to me. I believe we all try hard but when we humanly fail, it is help and guidance we need, not a slaughtering. Let’s not forget the hurt to many which Pat has inflicted over the years….

I have just been tipped off that you are once again pretending to be Father Stephen Dunn. Last time you did this, bishoppat assured Father Dunn that this would not happen again and he removed the previous (stupid) posts. Given his assurance on this thread that he is not a hypocrite, therefore, this is very disappointing indeed.

It is curious, too, that you chose to ignore the page I posted to the Police Scotland warning about the criminality of identify theft. Clearly, you’re not one for taking the hint.

It speaks for itself that so many priests from Ireland and Scotland spend time on this blog, talking muck. So much for your “vocations”. And no wonder you hate Father Dunn – as GK Chesterton says: “Only dead fish go with the flow – those with life in them swim against the tide”. Slightly paraphrased but I hope you get the message. You seem to be pretty slow of intellect, though, so I’m not holding out much hope… In simple English, it means that while the pretend priests here are going with the contemporary flow, where anything goes, Father Dunn, following 2000 years of Catholic Tradition, the example of the saints and of Christ Himself, shuns what are euphemistically called “the ways of the world” and lives a life of integrity. As I say above, however, you’re not one to take a hint, so this will wash over you (to continue the “fish/waters” analogy). Look up “analogy” – it’s in all the dictionaries.

I wish I could say “happy new year” – but I can’t. What I do wish for you is an insight into the fact that you are well and truly heading in the wrong direction, spiritually, morally, eternally speaking.

Take THAT hint.

You are well off the mark in every way about our newsletter and hey, we’ve been told we’d be closing down for the past 20 years – gimme a break. The fact is, I get umpteen requests to name names in our newsletter (and on the blog) but the fact is, no point. There are so many unfaithful priests that it’s quicker just to say that the Church in the Archdiocese (and Scotland generally) is in meltdown. They go in the end, anyway. Just check out the latest changes in Bridgeton. Took a while, but he’s gone now. The idea that the information has dried up is testimony to our discretion – dream on, pal, we ain’t going anywhere. And I’d be willing to bet a chunk of our funds (with approval of Mz McMoneypenny, of course) that yours is one of the names in my little black book.
For the record, note that while you know MY name, I don’t know yours – a tad cowardly, dontcha think? You’re reading the Catholic Truth blog on the QT and coming on here to comment anonymously. Let’s hope they don’t come looking for your when they’re looking for martyrs.

I don’t t think someone who goes to a gay sauna and engages in unprotected rawhide anal sex is likely to be someone who only has gone there once. Get real ! Purcell has frequented gay saunas on many occasions. Besides his hypocrisy – the subject of today’s blog – what worries me is his reckless disregard for his and his partner’s sexual health by engaging in very risky and dangerous unprotected anal sex. What an idiot !

Like

@11.42 You really are living in a dream world dearie. The term is bareback sex not rawhide in the gay community. A lot of gay men engage in bareback particularly in saunas. They do so because most hate condoms because it’s not natural, they also get a great thrill and pleasure from bareback. You will be surprised the amount of married bi guys engage in bareback more these days and sexual health does not enter the equation. Lots of gay guys enjoy it because they are already hiv positive undetectable so there is zero risk of transmitting hiv. The world has moved on so should you. Btw married guys love receiving oral and getting rimmed because the Missus refuses to do it so they go to gay guys like me instead. Gay guys do it better anyhow. Try it sometime.

Like

@ 1:12 – by using the term ‘rawhide’ i was alluding to Purcell’s nickname ‘Rawhide’. I know unprotected anal sex is called barebacking. More importantly, Purcell and others who persist in barebacking do put themselves in harm’s way. I accept that nowadays many gay men who are HIV + are on medication that reduces their viral load to undetectable levels and means that they are 99.9% unlikely to pass HIV to a partner. Also, many gay men who are not HIV + are using PrEp (pre-exposure prophylactic) medication so that if they encounter HIV in a partner they are 99.9 % unlikely to contract HIV. Increasingly, gay men are savvy about this. However, people like Purcell who are doing their sexual activities under the radar and secretly, are probably the ones most at danger because they do not particularly belong to the savvy gay community who is taking the precautions that I am talking about. So they, because of their lack of protection and medication, are probably the most likely to catch HIV. Although, because of what I was describing with the gay community, HIV transmission is increasingly on the downward slope, so that provides some protection for people like Purcell. Not out, closeted, secretive homosexuals like Purcell are increasingly the vectors of infection these days. In addition, while barebacking he is liable to encounter a whole host of other STIs which an be nasty. How embarrassing for him to have to go to his doctor or the brother infirmarian with a dose of crabs or a nasty yellow puss dripping from his dick !

If any monk, brother, priest, bishop, abbot, whoever, is sexually active he doesn’t need “time out to get his head straight” he needs to be gone – PDQ.
All of you people who are making a living out of pretending to be something you’re not – and I don’t mean simply the idiot impersonating Father Stephen Dunn – need to leave your parishes, monasteries, whatever and go out and “get a life” as they (stupidly) say these days but a life that does not entail living a lie.
You do not believe what has been handed down to us for 2000 years, you prefer the Peter Tatchell version, so off you go. Trust me, you will not be missed.
Or again (I like to put things simply, where possible) get lost…

God, It’s so easy to pick out the frightened monastic voices out. It’s either violins playing the saddest music, or else unhinged threatening invective.
Dear Brother or Father, it’s all very simple: If you are a priest and sexually active, you need to take some time out to get your head straight. If you are a monk and sexually active, even more so. And if you are a superior or abbot and sexually active, you have a duty to step aside and let the community be led by someone not so severely compromised and subject to disrepute.
It is Pat Buckley who is on the side of basic, *basic* Christian morality here. The RC bishops and superiors do not have the basic moral fibre to do what’s right. If they did, there would be very little material for a blog like this to pick up on.

You are lying. Father Dunn was popular with the people in Bridgeton – even with the Protestants, one of whom is in email contact with me and tells me that when Father Dunn was attacked in the street – as you know Bridgeton is not Bearsden: the Rottweilers go about in pairs for protection – it was a group of Protestants who came to his assistance.
Later, the Protestant gentleman who emails me said, there was dismay in the area when Father Dunn was moved because the Evangelicals understood that he was a sound priest, not an “anything goes” modernist/liberal. It’s interesting, isn’t it that GK Chesterton points out that somehow “the world” gravitates towards its own – and so those who are sincerely trying to follow Christ (on His terms not theirs) recognise the real thing when they see it. Worldlings like you don’t recognise the real thing when you see it, just as the travellers on the road to Emmaus didn’t recognise Our Lord when he joined them on their journey. Worth reflecting on that, “Anonymous”…
And if you’d like to find out more about Fr Dunn’s replacement in Bridgeton, go to our website, Newsletter page and download the January 2017 edition where the front page ff report is nothing short of rivetting.
Sadly, for you, doesn’t seem like his replacement was a homosexual. Shucks, there’s just no justice in this world, is there?

Furthermore given the shortage of clergy in every Dioceses in Scotland not another Diocese would take father Dunn so he is a solo pilot on long term sabbatical.
It is the hope of many Glasgow Clergy that the next Archbishop addresses these C/O guys.
finally did you see the SSPX mass online from Edinburgh well hopefully Archbishop Cushley is on to that and asks them to stay to the Strict Laws on Coronavirus or leave his Diocese with immediate effect..

Paul @5:23 pm

Firstly, and as an aside, I sincerely hope your mother didn’t name you after the great saint of that name – she will be bitterly disappointed, if so.

Your disdain for the Sacrament of Penance (“Reconciliation” to you) comes across loud and clear – i.e. your disdain for the mercy of God. In your superior wisdom you think we get absolved once and thereafter, are perfect as our Heavenly Father is perfect. Or, too bad… Is that it? Numpty.

Allow me to repeat – it’s a falsehood to claim lots of parishioners’ complaints about Father Dunn – the information which came to me about Father Dunn’s successor came from (drum roll) parishioners – and they were parishioners who were missing Father Dunn. And I know from speaking to one person living in a parish where Fr Dunn did supply, that she begged him to ask to be moved to her parish. She couldn’t believe that she was listening to sound doctrine, with no novus ordo shenanigans in the sanctuary. This is not an isolated incident, either – Father Dunn’s pastoral concern for souls is much appreciated by those I have come to term “real Catholics”. Not “perfect Catholics” just the ones who actually (drum roll) believe it all…

In any case, listen to this; having complaints made against someone in a professional position is not remotely unusual, not these days. Remember the Head Teacher who found herself in court because she’d seriously upset a child by…. crashing a ruler down on the child’s desk when she was reprimanding said child? They’d failed to get the Head on something more serious so then pitched in with their “clutching at straws” charge. Idiots. The “not guilty” verdict must have really irritated the socks off of those clowns, idiots, numpties, whatever…

The fact of the matter is this; it’s those, these days, who are trying to do the right thing, the true professionals, who draw the complaints. We’re seeing doctors and scientists who offer different advice from the Covid “experts” getting sacked, for example, and I recall a friend of mine telling me years ago that her uncle, a top obstetrician here in Glasgow was forced to resign and move to the Irish Republic because he refused to participate in abortions. I know, I know, you really couldn’t make this stuff up… I’m not sure if he’s now back in Bonnie Scotland.

I must say, I’m astonished that you – and others here – think nothing of publicly revealing what you intend to be information detrimental to a priest of your archdiocese (or any diocese, for that matter). Isn’t that the sin of defamation? Oh, but I forgot. No point going to Confession ‘cos you’ll just keep defaming. Of course. Makes perfect – diabolical – sense.

To elaborate a little on what I said in a previous post in response to another nutter here, I do, not infrequently, receive information about priests (mostly Glasgow) which at one time would have made the front page of the tabloids but which is of no interest now, really, because sexually active, unfaithful priests are, sadly, ten a penny. Yet, I still wouldn’t publish, partly because we have our “cast iron” rule – unless we have indisputable evidence of misbehaviour, we don’t publish. We don’t deal in gossip, rumour or, er, defamation. And even in those cases where we do have cast iron proof, or next door to it, we don’t – ten a penny, remember?

There’s not the same imperative now, either, because the Church in Scotland really is in meltdown and the people euphemistally called “the Catholic people” don’t really give a toss. Their skewed view of what it means to be a Catholic, mirrors, strangely, the same skewed view on show here. Now, there’s a coincidence, NOT!

As Father Dunn admitted in his recently published Open Letter, he is no saint, and he acknowledges his faults and failings. In the newspaper reports to which you refer, this humility comes through as he readily admits to not always acting perfectly, but no-one was every denied the Last Sacraments during his time at the hospice. More than I can say for one particular chaplain in the Diocese of Portsmouth, who told the Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion that he would like to see the priest, the end being near, and said priest telling the EMHC to contact the Church of England chaplain, because it was his (“Father’s”) day off!

So, apart from the evident hypocrisy in your comment (talk about pot calling the kettle black, assuming you are one of the many “Anonymous” clergy here indulging in sexual activity in blatant breach of your promise of celibacy), a little charity would not go amiss,

No need to apologise to me – I’m of no consequence (although the FCB – the False Charity Brigade would disagree on the grounds that I’m “a human being”… so was Hitler, so that’s no comfort).

I’m sorry you get lonely, and I’m sorry you seek to remedy that through drink. Won’t work. But you don’t need me to tell you that.

You’ve been through a seminary and various bishops, who have fed you milk, not meat (to cite St Paul and slightly twist his words!) That’s really the root of the loneliness – trying to live the life of a priest to which you are not truly committed is bound to lead to loneliness and the makeshift remedies such as alcohol. Instead of reading the unedifying material here, why not dip into some solid – pre-Vatican II – spiritual reading and lives of the saints. Avoid the crackpot Michael Walsh’s version of the saints, where he reduces them all to the most basic level: we have St Thomas More, for example, not sacrificing his life (in the end) rather than deny papal authority, but giving up his life “for the rights of conscience”. Plonker! Walsh I mean, not St Thomas More…

So, you say we’ve met but you didn’t like me (which is what your euphemistic, “we didn’t hit if off” means – no problem, you are not alone there, for sure!) You’re a tease, though, not to tell me when and where we met. I promise not to spread the word, so let me know here, later… Just between thee and me.

I appreciate your kind assumption of my good intentions but once I’ve made that old fashioned morning offering I don’t give any more thought to my intentions – indeed, more often than not I’m heard grumbling about how I got “landed” with this Catholic Truth newsletter etc – but that’s another story.

Your new year wishes are reciprocated. God bless you.

“Then he said, Son of man, remember everything I say to you, listen closely, and go to your exiled country men and talk to them. Tell them, ‘The Lord says this whether they listen or not.’” – Eziekiel, 2, 10-11. (Office of Readings, Monday, week 24)
“This is My Son the Beloved with whom I am well pleased. Listen to Him!’ – Mathew, Mark & Luke’s gospel.
This morning I was deeply saddened and angered when I saw people having to be denied entry to one of our Catholic churches in our Archdiocese of Glasgow because there were 50 people already in, and in obedience to Archbishop Philip Tartaglia, and the guidelines issued by the Archdiocese and the Bishops Conference of Scotland, this procedure had to be carried out. I was subsequently told that a man, his wife and his child, having travelled 15 miles were turned away a couple of weeks ago, again because 50 were already in.
ENOUGH of this suppression, intimidation!
This is disgraceful, shocking. “Could you not spend one hour with me?” No you can’t, because Philip Tartaglia and the Scottish Bishops conference says no – only 50 are allowed in; we are going to be obedient to government guidelines and not allow any more than 50 people in.
Obedient to a Government which advocates Adultery, Abortion, Sodomy, and Transgenderism? Please tell me one of those that is pleasing to God?
Why are the Bishops of Scotland being obedient to such law makers? Being obedient to laws/directives made by a fascist, Communist government which drove fear into people and makes them act in fear, a government which you are obeying! Our Lady warned at Fatima, Russia will spread her errors throughout the world, causing wars and persecutions of the Church. I am aware that is not unique to Scotland, but as a priest ordained 26 years ago for Glasgow in Scotland I am going to focus my criticism/argument there.
One of these persecutions of the Church is happening now. The government, in its freedom removal and fear laws, said churches were to be shut, God’s people were not to gather at His house and celebrate/receive the Sacraments, the primary means of the Salvation of their souls. Bishop, are you of God or of the world?
This intimidation is happening before your very eyes and you happily go along with it. Is this good shepherding?
Never in the history of Mother Church, has she been subject to the laws of the State. The Church is not and never has been subject to the State; this is clear in all Encyclicals regarding the relationship between Church and State issued by the One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church. It is frightening that Bishops have compromised this clear teaching by their obedience to the State, to the point where Sacraments, the primary means of salvation, are being denied even to the dying. Shocking.
And do not dare tell me that this is because of Covid 19, a disease which has a recovery rate of 99.79%! Yes a fatality rate of 1 in 500. A disease, which 42 studies showed by 39 – 3, that if treated promptly and with the correct and proper dosage, of hydroxychloroquine, full recovery increases by 33 – 50% !
See the facts for yourselves! – this is not a study but a review of 42 studies!
For the purpose of the points/criticisms I make, I shall quote Truth given by Our Lord in the 4 gospels, showing how these present actions are against His will, contradict His will. I will also refer to other Scripture quotes and the lives of the saints.
From the start our Bishops closed our churches, the dwelling place of Jesus Christ in the most Blessed Sacrament.
Holy Water was removed from our fonts with which we bless ourselves on entering Jesus’ house, reminding ourselves of the covenant God made with us at Baptism – “Unless you are born of water and the Holy Spirit you shall not enter the Kingdom of Heaven” – John 3.
Is God going to use Holy Water to pass disease to faithful followers of His son who remind themselves of His covenant?
The weekend before we entered national lockdown on Monday 23rd March the Bishops closed our churches, denying access. “Come to me all you who labour and are overburdened, and I will give you rest. Shoulder my yoke and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls!”- Matt 11.
When the sheep were frightened and scared of the Covid wolf, you shepherds denied them entry to be with their Master, He through whom they were created, their Saviour, in His Real Presence, Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar. Sorry to say it, but I say directly, this is Shocking, Disgraceful.
Consider the prayer taught by the Angel to the little children at Fatima –
My God I believe, I adore, I hope and I love You. I beg pardon for those who do not believe, do not Adore, do not hope and do not love you. Most Holy Trinity, Father, Son and Holy Ghost, I adore you profoundly and I offer you the most precious Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ, truly present in all the Tabernacles of the World in reparation for the outrages, sacrileges and indifference with which He Himself is offended. And through His Sacred Heart and the Immaculate Heart of Mary, I beg of you the conversion of poor sinners. Amen
You, Bishops of Scotland, you denied adoration, you are the ones who presently cause the outrages, sacrileges and indifference with which He Himself is offended, by denying the sheep time in the Real Presence of Jesus. And at a time when they need it most.
You may reply: But they might have had Covid, brought it and passed it resulting in an outbreak which would have resulted through their coming to Church!
Is the Father going to allow His Son’s house to be the centre of disease and the passing of disease when the sheep come to His Son to find peace for their souls! No.
“When the Son of Man comes will He find any faith on earth?” – Luke 18. With such chief shepherds as we have, sorry Lord Jesus, it looks very unlikely.
What guidance and example do the saints give us, actions that will please the Father?
St Augustine, Bishop and Doctor of our Holy Catholic Church, says regarding shepherds i.e., Bishops and we priests who have advocated and followed the above practices; said on Monday, week 24, Office of Readings:
“So let us see how the Word of God, that flatters no one, addresses the shepherds who are feeding themselves not the sheep. ‘You take the milk, you clothe yourselves with the wool, you slaughter the fatlings; but you do not feed my sheep. The weak you have not strengthened, the sick you have not healed, the crippled you have not bound up, the strayed you have not brought back, the lost you have not sought; any strong one you have killed; and my sheep are scattered because there is no shepherd.”
Not only did you close churches and stop people from spending time in the Real Presence, you stopped funerals denying the grieving time at the Lord’s altar, to pray for their loved ones: “All I ask of you is that you remember me at the Altar of God” – St Monica.
In hospitals where people were dying, they were denied access to priests, and so to the Sacraments, the primary means of the salvation of their souls, the Forgiveness of Sin, Absolution for their Souls, which would have placed their souls in a state of Grace, so helping them to remove the fear of death, helping them to find peace in Jesus’ mercy…
As the Compendium Catechism of the Catholic Church, written by Pope Benedict XVI, says:
How are sins remitted? (#200)
The first and chief sacrament for the forgiveness of sins is Baptism. For those sins committed after Baptism, Christ instituted the Sacrament of Reconciliation or Penance through which a baptised person is reconciled with God and with the Church.
Why does the Church have the power to forgive sins? (#201)
The Church has the mission and the power to forgive sins because Christ Himself has conferred it upon her: “Receive the Holy Ghost, if you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven; if you retain the sins of any, they are retained” – John 20
This mission of yours, this duty as shepherds, you neglected, by not making sure a priest was available to the dying in a time of great fear.
“But he could have caught Covid and might have died!” I hear you reply.
Will the Father allow disease to pass to a Priest/s, with whom Jesus has shared His priesthood, as he tries to worthily celebrate the Sacraments, the primary means of Salvation, to sick and dying souls? Have you any faith, trust in Jesus who has shared His priesthood with you? He whom St Paul tells us in his letter to the Philippians: “If our life in Christ means anything to you” (it should be the centre of our priesthood) “if love can persuade you at all, or the Holy Spirit that we have in common, or any tenderness and sympathy, then be united in your convictions and united in your love, with a common purpose and mind.”
That common purpose and mind must be to follow the actions and teaching of Christ – was He scared to touch the lepers? In the Gospel Jesus tells us of the son who said “yes”, he would go to his father’s vineyard and work but never went. On being installed Bishops, you promised to go and look after the Lord’s flock, but you have gone to the world instead, listened to its instructions and imposed them on the people, failing to implement Jesus’ teaching and ways.
Lives/example of the saints –
St Robert Bellarmine, Bishop and Doctor of the Church, feast 17th Sept,- During the time of great disease, at the time of the Reformation, the plague which ravaged Europe, he went about cleansing and dressing the wounds of those infected by the plague; what hand sanitizer was he using? Please tell me if you know – I better get some!
St Mother Teresa served the poor looking after them, dressing their wounds, helping them in their illness. What age did she live to? 87! How many followed her, joined her order, she who trusted herself completely to the service of God and her neighbour. “By its fruits shall you know the tree.”
If we are truly trying to be shepherds through the priesthood Christ has shared with us, these are the examples we should look to, copy and so trust in the power of Christ, as we try to do the will of the Father through the prompting of the Holy Ghost, and without fear.
And finally to the Mass and how it has been changed by you Bishops.
Mass, the celebration of Christ’s offering on the Cross for the forgiveness of our sins, the institution of the Most Holy Eucharist, where we hear the Word of God to help us guide our actions to show our belief in Jesus Christ, our Saviour.
You shut our churches, denying people the Mass, the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Jesus Christ: “I tell you most solemnly, if you do not eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His Blood you will not have life within you.” – John 6:53.
You stopped the sheep from receiving the Lord in Holy Communion at the time when they needed Him most. Instead of doing what Christ instructed you did what the Government instructed:
Do not get close to each other. Priests, keep people apart, distancing them from each other, no singing, the liturgy must be celebrated in a very basic way. You must make the faithful wear masks, despite the fact that the WHO admitted to the BBC that its June 2020 mask policy update was due not to new evidence, but “political lobbying”. – D Cohen, BBC Medical Correspondent Yet, the people are hindered in their ability to speak, to enter God’s Presence, showing their facial individuality, how God created them. Disgraceful.
On 3rd September, in the Tridentine calendar, we celebrated the feast of St Pius X, great pastor of the flock, who realised the full value of the liturgy as the prayer of the Church that is pleasing to the Father. You hinder such celebration in your clear obedience to the world. Why?
One cannot help but think that if the Lord Jesus came into such churches, He would tear down your tape, cast aside your sanitizer bottles and masks and say My Father’s house shall be called a house of prayer, but you have turned it into a worldly den which follows practices of the world and the flesh! Be gone! – Matt, 21.
Priests have to sanitize hands before giving out communion – as Philip Tartaglia said to me in a letter instructing me to follow guidelines, or else! People should leave the church after receiving Holy Communion; they should not remain/return to benches. People are to be denied time in the Real Presence of their Saviour, He who sacrificed Himself for the forgiveness of their sins, their Lord and Master. This directly contravenes the example of the saints of the Church who in their lives show the importance of spending time in the presence of Jesus, having just received Him.
“The Bishops of Scotland have agreed to suspend the choice of distributing and receiving Holy Communion on the tongue during the current pandemic for reasons of infection control. This is not an attempt to change liturgical laws. It is a reasonable temporary measure to adopt in this pandemic.” – letter sent by email to me from Philip Tartaglia, 20th August 2020.
You Bishops have no right, no such power to remove people’s choice to receive Holy Communion on the tongue!
It is for people to choose, not you to dictate things contrary to the teaching and rules of Mother Church.
Is Jesus, who is using the priest, with whom He has shared His priesthood, going to pass disease through their giving of Holy Communion? Again I quote, “When the Son of Man comes will He find any faith on earth?”
According to Scripture in the Office of Readings of the last few weeks, the Lord asks of His shepherds, on numerous occasions, through the Prophets, and very precisely here: “When the upright man renounces his integrity to do evil and I set a trap for him, he too shall die for his sin and the integrity he practised will no longer be remembered; but I will hold you responsible for his death.” – Ezekiel 2:20
By publishing this letter, as a priest who is struggling in the present situation, I truly believe I am acting in obedience to God’s will, pleasing the Father and following the prompting of the Holy Ghost by giving clarity through Christ’s words, not mine. I believe that by my quotes from the Gospels, I have declared myself for Jesus in the presence of men as Jesus commands and, I believe, a true shepherd should. (Matt, 10:32)
To you, the people of the Body of Christ in Scotland, the One Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church I ask your prayers, especially before the altar of God. I am a sinner with faults and failings, some say many faults and failings. Many will assure you “that you definitely won’t see a halo over Dunn’s head!” However, even with such weakness and faults, I believe that I have a duty to make this letter available to you, in obedience to God, Father, Son and Holy Ghost, to address grave failings and incorrect directives from our Scottish Bishops.
To those whom I accuse, I say reflect, realise what Christ wishes of we Shepherds, and like the Prodigal Son, come back to the Father – remembering that Christ tells us, ”There will be more rejoicing in heaven over one repentant sinner than ninety-nine good men who are in no need of repentance.” – Luke, 15.
And as individuals, let none of us forget: “Remember dear Christian: You have but one soul to save, One God to love and to serve, one Eternity to expect, Death will come soon, Judgement will follow, And then, Heaven or Hell for all Eternity!” (St Teresa of Avila).
Yes, we priests have many souls to save, and because more has been entrusted to us in priesthood, the greater our Judgement!
God Bless you all, and may we all be united in Christ Jesus to carry out His will.
Christ’s brother in priesthood,
Fr Stephen Dunn
Priest of 26 years of the Archdiocese of Glasgow.

@6.31,

The “Covidiots” are those who think that all of these draconian restrictions and repeated lockdowns by whatever name, are all about a virus. A virus from which 99.98% of those who become infected recover. Gerragrip.

Those who lose the Faith (if ever they really had it – I tend not to believe that it’s possible to lose the Faith,in fact) generally lose their common sense as well and all sense of right thinking and proportion. In other words…

Stop being such an idiot, believing what the politicians and media are telling you when there’s plenty of evidence to the contrary – remember two things:

1) none of these politicians and media people have lost a day’s pay through all of this…
2) Sir Desmond Swayne MP, one of the few to query the whole scam, said openly in Parliament a few weeks ago, that this is a very dangerous lesson to give a Government – that they can snap their fingers, instil fear into the people, and they will hand over their freedoms with nothing more than a shrug of the shoulders.”

Howzabout you change your (highly unoriginal) username from Anonymous, to Shrug…Er?

Now, Neil @ 5.38pm

Why did you go to all that trouble to copy the text of Father’s letter when all you had to do was give the link to it here – where you can also read the hundreds of comments in response to it? Additionally, Father received comments directly by email, and some people emailed my unworthy self as well, those who, for whatever reason, were unwilling to post on the blog.https://catholictruthblog.com/2020/09/29/scots-priest-challenges-bishops-response-to-lockdown-covid-19-restrictions/

Perhaps because it kinda proves that those who are posting hostile comments about Fr Dunn are the real villains while he is a sound priest. Operating (i.e. living) on a whole different level from his critics.

Food for thought, eh?

– as there is no communion, receiving on the tongue is irrelevant
– the government should allow more than 50 when proportionate to the size of a building
– what provision is made for non-communicants? Or is communion compulsory since JP II?

Very very significant how the archbishop’s name is used above as if it is important or indicative of any kind of Christian formation or practice.
This really is clericalism gone off the scale.
A good shepherd would be delighted if his flock didn’t know his name but knew important things of the faith.
You honestly couldn’t make this up.

I bet you’re one of the “Arch”‘s favourites. I can tell…

Talking about being paid and housed – does it ever occur to you that you are about as dishonest as they come, making your living out of the church, taking money from your people who are struggling financially to contribute to your upkeep, and that if they knew about your double life, you’d shock them and perhaps cause them to leave the Church – post-Vatican II Catholics, after all, are hardly made of stern stuff. Does it, I mean does it, ever occur to you? Does your hypocrisy ever hit you between the eyes, like I’d like to do. I mean, she said hastily, like I’d like to get your conscience to hit you between the eyes?

Seriously?

@7.02,

According to the many lay people who cross my humble path, there’s not a lot of “leading people to Him” going on these past 60 odd years.

Shucks, I DID wonder why the churches were emptying…
