MY 2017 LETTER FROM FORMER MAYNOOTH SEMINARIAN – NEEDS REPEATING.

*****

The seminarian who wrote that letter to me 3 years has been in touch again.

Apparently new bishop of Cork, Fintan Gavin is set to ordain Ronan Sheehan soon?

FINTAN GAVIN

Gavin’s first ordination.

LETTER FROM MAYNOOTH SEMINARIAN

The following letter arrived this weekend from a Maynooth seminarian:

“Dear Bishop Pat,

It has taken me a while to put pen to paper to you. I have put it off for so long.

I am a former seminarian in Maynooth. I decided to take time out of Maynooth to reflect.

I decided to withdraw from seminary as I was unhappy with the place – not so much with my formators – but the student/seminarian group.

When the story broke last Summer about Maynooth I was not one bit surprised. My time away from Maynooth has been good for me as I was offered a good job with xxxxxxxxxxxx which gives me the time to travel the country.

Since Easter I have been working in the xxxxxxxxx area which means I can get home every weekend.

The people I meet in my current job are very nice to deal with – as was not the case in Maynooth.

I did not like the Cork seminarians in Maynooth. They were very immature and bitchy. A friend recently attended two Cork ordinations.

Evin O’Brien

The first was in Cork and Ross for Rev Evin O’Brien. It was certainly not a joyous occasion – lots of LATIN. When Evin started in Maynooth he was a nice, normal, ordinary guy but then was taken in by the old style church and he got a liking for the latin. I wonder does he really understand latin as he is not the brightest guy on the planet. I wish him well but feel sorry for the people he will minister to as he lacks personality.

JOHN MAGNER

JOHN MAGNER

The second ordination was for Rev John Magner. It was totally different – uplifting, God filled occasion. At that ordination the seminarians dressed in choral dress and all received Holy Communion on the tongue. They had that look of arrogance.

Newly ordained Evin O’Brien from Cork and Ross did not concelebrate but sat with soutane and lace surplice and stole on his arm. Why Maynooth allowed this guy to be ordained and let behave in this manner, one wonders.

There were interesting characters at the ordination you often refer to in your blog. One such person is Ronan Sheehan. You, Pat, never developed any story on him. He is so far up his arse with his own importance.

RONAN SHEEHAN

Why he is still in Maynooth, one wonders. He always got to do his own thing, got cosy numbers. I heard he is off to Gay Paris for the summer to learn French. His time in Paris will be “interesting”. I know you have lots of material on him because he is not liked by anyone. He is the type to bring everyone down with him, if he was asked to go. The Dublin deacon is a saint in comparison!

DEENIHAN

Last year you wrote about Father Thomas Deenihan who is the Cork priest who is working in the CPS MA in Maynooth as well as holding down his powerful post in the diocesan office in Cork. I got to know him well through his comings and goings in Maynooth. He was friends with some of the seminarians.

MC ELROY

You wrote last Summer about Kevin McElroy. When the story broke that he was in Cork Kevin fled back to Down and Connor and his priest “friends” washed their hands of their good-looking, dashing friend.

People like Ronan Sheehan and Kevin McElroy have stories to tell about seminarians and priests. They will talk if they are axed.

Anyway, I better finish and get back to my job – but please do not reveal who is the writer of this letter.

You can do what you want with it.

I’m sure there are others that will help you get these stories off the ground.

Keep reporting THE TRUE STORIES OF MAYNOOTH.

If a few more at Maynooth go then our Church in Ireland will be a lot better off with fewer good ones.

Sincerely yours,

XXXXXXXX XXXXXXXXX

PAT SAYS:

Dear Xxxxxxx,

Thank you for your letter to me. I have changed parts of your letter to protect your identity.

I have also lfet out some of the material you shared with me – but you know that this was very informative. I have it filed. It fills in some blanks in the Maynooth story.

I am happy for you that you feel happier away from Gaynooth and that you have a job you enjoy.

God is still guiding you and He has a plan for you and your life that nothing will disrupt. Keep listening to him for guidance.

The MAYNOOTH PROBLEM has not been solved and is a continuing abscess on the Body of Christ.

It must be lanced once and for all.

The Irish Bishops – in cowardice – have decided to try tweak the situation.

You do not put ointment or plasters on cancer. It needs RADICAL SURGERY.

That will eventually happen – and it will be helped by people like yourself coming forward and giving information.

I will be sending your letter – without identifying you – to my contacts in Rome.

I hope to hear from you again.

God bless,

+Pat.

TODAYS UPDATED NOTE FROM SAME SEMINARIAN

THE INJUSTICE DONE TO CONAL MC GONAGLE OF DERRY.

Dear Pat,

> Stephen Wilson and Ronan Sheehan are all part of an ongoing homosexual network in Maynooth.
>
> Stephen Wilson needs removed immediately as does Ronan Sheehan. Ronan was involved with another Armagh seminarian in 2016. It seems he had sense and left and has since become a journalist. Ronan still remains. They both got Conán McGonagle kicked out and removed.

PAT SAYS

The seminarian who wrote in 2017 wrote again yesterday to say that Fintan Gavin was soon to ordain Ronan Sheehan.

It seems to be that there is LEFT OVER BUSINESS from the Maynooth 2016/2017 scandal.

And that business seems to include Stephen Wilson of Armagh and Ronan Sheehan of Cork.

It all stems from the time Derry seminarian claimed to have caught two other seminarians in bed together.

Sadly, the whistle blower Conal was expelled and the other two retained.

I have sent all details to Fintan Gavin in Cork.

It will be interesting to see how he handles everything.

It surprised me that Ronan Sheehan did not receive much focus in 2016. The guy was caught with his pants down. Everyone else got the axe but Ronan Sheehan sailed on to ordination. Why?
The mind boggles

It’s a seminary thing. Having tea every night in a seminarian’s room sounds more catholic than telling the truth about what’s really going on: sex parties. Ask Fr Goldilocks in East Anglia.

I see you have a photograph of the Garden of Eden in St Mary’s Square in Maynooth. When that was unveiled in 1995 for the bicentenary, the joke was that they were going to audition for Adam and Eve to stand in the garden, but there was too many Eve’s and not enough Adam’s.

Like

That ugly garden was Ledwith’s parting shot, following on from the hideous statue outside the library of JPII and the children he commissioned from Imogen Stuart and which will surely be thrown into the Lyreen river one day, just like the way statues of slave owners have been pulled down in the States and in England.

Fr Evin O’Brien is a very decent chap, surprisingly decent. I am not sure what he has to do with Maynooth scandal, other than someone didn’t like some of the trappings at his ordination.

The Catholic Church in Ireland were selling human beings (adoption) for profit, they turned a blind eye to clergy buggering young boys, they set the suspects up in new places, they stigmatised innocent young girls and intimidated their families to abandon them. They sold influence in an afterlife for cash. Good thing the church is not a private sector organisation or after the discovery of 9000 murders/ manslaughters you would imagine the company would be prosecuted, disbanded and its assets siezed, not to mention members behind bars.
The state regulated and inspected the mother & baby homes, but did nothing about death and neglect. FF, FG and the civil service were equally responsible.
The deaths of 9000 innocents comes behind the antics of the rampant homosexuals in Maynooth Pat? Satan was in the Mother and Baby homes Pat, where was God?

Since abortion was introduced in Ireland 14,000 unborn babies have been killed. Are you up in arms about that?

In NI, life-saving cancer operations have been cancelled because it is all hands to the pump to combat covid, apparently. Yet abortions are still happening in NI and in the same hospitals where heroic efforts are being made to keep people alive, abortions are happening on a different ward. Are you raging about that?

Your narrative has all the subtlety of a bull in a china shop. The reality was very different. Ireland was a class-ridden and chauvinist society, like Victorian England. The pity is that the churches did little or nothing to challenge society. Instead churches imported society’s caste system and in so doing forgot the Gospel.

Some of these revelations / allegations could be considered tittle tattle. I find them hard to follow. Not least because the seminarian’s letter to + Pat is pretty badly written and disjointed. I would have expected something more fluent and understandable than that from a seminarian who is supposed to be doing university level studies.
Nonetheless, there is a distinct whiff of things not being right with the culture of Maynooth, and probably many other seminaries. We have identified on this blog many times before what can be called the homosexualisation and eroticisation of seminary life and seminaries. Lots of drinking, gossiping, bitchiness, sexualised activities and culture, playing the game when in public but living out a different kind of life and culture in private etc. etc. etc. Add in to that certain traditionalist and liturgical predilections, which seem to go hand in hand with this homosexualised seminary culture. Some of this is backed up by seminary staff who themselves seem to behave in these ways.
I have no issue with homosexual sexuality / persuasion / individuals etc. Some people are homosexual by orientation, so that is that. I accept them as they are, including the culture and lifestyle that they choose to live. It is their right. It is my responsibility to respect that and to tolerate it at the very minimum, and better to celebrate it for its good. My problem has to do with a community of men who have freely chosen (and been required by the Church) to live a life that is chaste and celibate. That choice sits very uneasily with the culture and atmosphere that I have described above which is so evident in seminaries and amongst seminarians these days. The gulf between these two realities is the problem, and has as its heart an unhealthy dysfunction that does damage to the individuals involved and to the institutions, the seminaries and ultimately the Church. It is vitally important, given the Church’s continuing insistence that its clergy are celibate and chaste, that those who freely undertake this clerical lifestyle and discipline do so honestly, openly and transparently, and do not lead a hidden parallel life that is in opposition to what they have promised and professed publicly. That’s the issue for me. That is why, although often imperfectly expressed, this blog continues to shine a light into that dark, duplicitous and dysfunctional culture which we find in seminaries and seminarians.
If the Church eventually – and probably unlikely – says that it is fine for homosexually active men to become priests, then the issue would not exist. Until that happens, this is an issue about honesty, transparency, and not living a lie and pulling the wool over our eyes.

I’m fed up hearing, probably from the same person, that there is some connection between priests who have traditional liturgical practices and the gay carry on reported on this blog. Here is a handy cut out and keep guide to the main protagonists mentioned on this blog.

Late Fr Lomnasney: lib.

It depends what you mean by traditional liturgical practices. It’s all well and fine to celebrate a Latin Mass, be it in the ordinary or extraordinary form. However, so many of these guys pile it on and seem to take more interest in the vestments and the lace. Some even invent little practices and garments to be worn, I see. As a rule, yes, I think that the connection between some of these practices and being, shall we say, a batsman for the other side, is probably correct. Well, you can’t be so off the mark with Catholic priests anyhow, because the vast majority of them these days are gay. Fact.

Like

For many of these younger trads the Latin Mass and dressing up is a sexual act and turn on – a hot line crossdressing.

Like

I’m beginning to figure out, some commenters felt traumatised by lace without, as it represents for them “lace within” of an agressive kind. Bad attitudes seem to come from seminary staff and VDs above all. Bishops feel they are required to appoint a VD and they look for someone keen to do it. But in volunteering lies big responsibility, and sentimentality doesn’t suffice. And does anyone know how seminary staff get appointed at all? In an older generation of clergy this situation was less often so.
Even in a short comment I often wish they would give us a pointer to where they are coming from. Bp Pat, it is so helpful now that you are commenting on more of the comments: the (joint) single most important element in moderating: we readers and commenters can get an idea of where you are coming from, on any point, now that you are doing this more.
As for “churchmanship” I’m sure the pudding has got over-egged and a one-gag show devoid of argument can become a switch-off. Constant chopping and changing and literalness from the Vatican has confused everybody anyway. And church history has been very different between various localities and “communities”.
Bp Pat I sense that you were shaken more to the core, than you pretend, by certain bad personal approaches you’ve reported, that were made to you.

Like

The irony of your anonymous letter writer accusing others of being bitchy when his letter is just one long bitchy character assassination. No evidence, just slurs. If this blog does any good, it is undermined by such defamatory rants. Let’s see the evidence. The use of Latin is hardly a sin! No priest is required to concelebrate, especially if he has already offered Mass on the day. Ignorant as well as defamatory.
While the campaign to expose hypocrisy is a good one, the pro-gay agenda is at odds with it. By all means disagree with it, and given your personal situation how could you not, but don’t blame the Church for not changing the Gospel to suit modern tastes. Just stick to exposing those in the hierarchy who profess the Gospel but do not live it. That is actually of some use.

Like

The desire of priests to concelebrate and form a big gang on the sanctuary can be clericalist in its motivation and in its appearance, not forgetting the big turn outs of permanent deacons at big diocesan Masses where most of them have no liturgical function but they want to dress up and be on the sanctuary with the priests.

Like

It seems to me that one deacon should be in the sanctuary? Deacons cannot concelebrate.

Like

Quite so. Though I am inclined to be progressive, I have seen nothing over the decades to suggest that permanent deacons, female acolytes or lectors, or semi-clericalised busy-bodies in general are the answer to the crisis of priests – whether because they are too few or the wrong sort ( if you catch my drift ).

Like

I am afraid at big diocesan functions in England sometimes the permanent deacons outnumber the priests. It’s all for show and dressing up as you correctly say @ 1.16pm. I have seen chief concelebrants having to fight their way through permanent deacons to teach the missal on the altar because they want to be next to the bishop. They are a pain in the arse, most serve no liturgical function at these events. Some bishops ordain these deacons like there is no tomorrow, I think it is a total mistake. Most of these deacons wear clerical garb 24/7 and swan round the place and I am convinced some wear it to bed. Bishop Griffiths in Hexham & Newcastle told them at one time to stop wearing clerical attire and stop pretending to be priests. It would take up too much blog space to even explain about the arrogance of their wives who thinkvthey are a cut above everyone else in the parish. They rub the lay faithful up the wrong way. Many ask who is the real deacon, the wife or her husband. Many PP’s regret ever having them.

John Keenan has been tipped many times as the AB in waiting. However most episcopal watchers know only too well that those tipped as a ‘cert and shoe in’ seldom get the shout.
I tend to agree that +Leo Cushley will move over. Glasgow is a much larger and more prestigious post. The way is also clear for him to get a red beretta.
Keenan, while a Glasgow priest at ordination, is too young. He might also be a little too severe in his conservatism. Leaving him to get on with Paisley would be best. What’s more it would be easier for + Leo to sort out some of the many issues in Glasgow. He was a papal diplomat and very highly skilled.
Edinburgh? I’m not sure if Robson, a former auxiliary there might go back or maybe Bishop Brian McGee would be a good choice, having served in Argyll for a few years.
That all said let us lay to rest Ab Philip first.

As for an Apostolic Administrator this is usually if the SEE is vacant in the case of KOB However Glasgow should be like when cardinal Thomas Joseph Winning died they appointed the VG as Administrator.
But in Paisley’s last vacancy they appointed Archbishop Conti as Apostolic Administrator.
I would be surprised if Archbishop Cushley is appointed as there is a strong chance of the Holy SEE transferring him to Glasgow.
They will mostly want someone in Glasgow before COP26 in November.
