PAT SAYS

The answer to this big problem can be helped by:

1. Gay priests coming out to their bishops and superiors and publicly and forcing the RCC to take a stand one way or the other.

2. The RCC, if it believes that gay people are intrinsically disordered must dismiss all actively gay priests.

3. The other option is for the RCC to change it teachings on homosexuality and celibacy.

Bishop John is promoter of courage and rightly so. He even has a chaplain to minister to those seeking support. This is why Bishop John will make it to Glasgow soon. A good and holy man.

After reading that Blog, and the Pat Says, I am after thinking I wouldn’t mind being Pope for a day or two. I could sort the whole thing out shure. With one stroke of the pen. Get rid of that word intrinsically disordered. And replace it with “loved by God”. Would you vote for me Pat if you were raised to the Cardinals? 😂

Plenty of space for gay clerics. Sure look at the bishops. One more closet gay than the next.
The real difficulty for this man is his projection of his own sexuality outwards in self-defense if an in ability to properly embrace chastity and celibacy.

It’s obvious that the RCC, as well as Islam, has problems with the actual realities of human sexuality. However, its claim that a homosexual preference is a “disorder” is not a moral matter. That comes in with its demand that gays and lesbians must refrain from sexual activity. You may regard this as stupid, but so is the opposing gay subculture assertion that gays MUST indulge in sexual activity. A completely separate issue is that of celibacy – Latin rite priests and consecrated religious of all rites in the RCC DON’T DO SEX. You may argue that with the former it’s only a “disciplinary matter” and so want to wriggle, but with the latter it’s a fundamental part of the definition. If you are a consecrated religious in any Christian denomination (not just the RCC) and want to do sex -get out, secularise yourself, you don’t belong. Hypocrisy is evil.

Buckfast Abbey
Father Paul Couch was jailed for ten years in 2007, on two counts of serious sexual assault and 11 of indecent assault.[10] He had committed the offences against six boys between 1972 and 1993 during two periods at Buckfast Abbey Preparatory School in Devon; he was a Royal Navy chaplain from 1978 until 1983 and again from 1992.[11]
Father William Manahan pleaded guilty in 2007 at Exeter Crown Court to eight charges of sexually assaulting pupils at the same school between 1971 and 1978, and was jailed for 15 months.[12] The school closed in 1994.
Ampleforth College
In 1995 Fr Bernard Green, then a housemaster at Ampleforth College, was arrested after indecently assaulting a sleeping boy in one of the school’s dormitories. He received two years’ probation for an incident which was said to have “petrified” the boy concerned.[13][14]
In 2005, Fr Piers Grant-Ferris admitted 20 incidents between 1966 and 1975 including beating boys bare-handed on the buttocks, and taking temperatures rectally. The Yorkshire Post reported in 2005 that former Abbot Basil Hume did not call in police when the initial incident came to light in 1975, but removed Father Grant-Ferris. Several other incidents came to light in 2003, when the abbey hired a psychologist to conduct risk assessments on staff.[15]
Belmont Abbey
Father John Kinsey of Belmont Abbey, Herefordshire was sentenced to five years at Worcester Crown Court in 2005 by Judge Andrew Geddes for a series of serious offences relating to assaults on schoolboys attending Belmont Abbey School in the mid 1980s.[16][17] Due to falling pupil numbers, the school closed in the early 1990s.[18]
Douai Abbey
David Smith, jailed May 2007, was an assistant housemaster at Douai School, Upper Woolhampton, West Berkshire, from 1975. He sexually abused three boys in one year at the school and continued to sexually abuse as an Anglican priest from 1981, sexually abusing a series of boys over a 30-year period.[19][20]
Roman Catholic Benedictine monk/priest, Father Michael Creagh was jailed in November 2017 for two counts of child sexual abuse while he was a house master in 1992 at Douai School. He had previous convictions for paedophilic offences, committed elsewhere in the 1970s.[21][22]
David Lowe, a paedophile and serial sexual abuser, had sexually abused young boys, firstly, at Westminster Cathedral Choir School, London, and, secondly at the Roman Catholic Benedictine Ampleforth College in Yorkshire. Subsequent to and despite his history, he moved to Douai Abbey. A married man and a father, Lowe was appointed Deputy Headmaster at the school in the 1990s, and there is no suggestion that he sexually abused at Douai. Lowe was jailed for 10 years in 2015 for indecent assaults.[23]
Father Terence Charles Fitzpatrick, Roman Catholic priest/monk of Douai School, whilst he was Roman Catholic parish priest at St Osburg’s Roman Catholic church in Coventry, sexually abused a woman, Pamela Brown, between 1989 and 1991. She had psychological issues and approached him for guidance. Fitzpatrick duped her into performing sexual activity “games” under the pretense that they were part of the help she required from him, and stating that the sexual activity was carried out in the name of God. Brown was awarded damages at Birmingham County Court.[24] Fitzpatrick returned to Douai Abbey and continued to serve four Roman Catholic parishes in Berkshire.
The Douai Abbey school closed in 1999.
Downside School
In 2004, a Benedictine monk was jailed for 18 months after taking indecent images of schoolboys and possessing child pornography when he was a teacher at Downside School.[25] In January 2012, Father Richard White, a monk who formerly taught at the school, was jailed for five years for gross indecency and indecent assault against a pupil in the late 1980s. White, 66, who was known to pupils as Father Nick, had been allowed to continue teaching after he was first caught abusing a child in 1987 and was able to go on to groom and assault another pupil in the junior school. He was placed on a restricted ministry after the second incident, but was not arrested until 2010. Two other Downside monks, also former teachers, received police cautions during an 18-month criminal trial.[26][27]
In November 2017, the national Independent Inquiry into Child Sexual Abuse (IICSA) started to examine evidence of children being targeted for abuse at the school, along with another major Catholic school Ampleforth Abbey, as part of its investigation into the prevalence of paedophilia in the English Benedictine Congregation and its failures in protecting young people over many decades. IICSA heard that children at the two schools could still be “at risk”.[28][29] The enquiry heard evidence that in 2012, the then headmaster, Father Leo Maidlow Davis, who was the senior monk at Downside Abbey from 2014 until 2018, made trips with a loaded wheelbarrow to a distant part of its grounds, where he made a bonfire, destroying staff files dating back to the early 1980s that might have contained evidence of child abuse at the school.
Father Charles Fitzgerald-Lombard, abbot of Downside from 1990 to 1998, was among three Downside abbots accused by Father Aidan Bellenger, in a private letter, of tolerating child abuse. Father Aidan, abbot from 2006 to 2014, said his predecessors “protected and encouraged” paedophile monks. Wrongdoers at the school were quietly moved between Benedictine monasteries and parishes. Reference was made to instructions from Rome to destroy documents that were damaging to priests. Father Leo insisted that his decision to make a bonfire of Downside’s staff files was prompted by a desire to “get rid of unnecessary old material”. He accepted that the files should, under safeguarding requirements, have been kept for 70 years, conceding that he may have unintentionally destroyed information about child abuse.[30]
As recommended by the IICSA report, a new charitable company was set up for the school in 2019 to separate it from the monastery. In 2020 it was reported that the abbey had sold paintings at auction for over £400,000 to defray legal costs.[31]
Worth Abbey
Worth Abbey and Worth School were initially created as the preparatory school for Downside. In 1995, Father Andrew Brenninkmeyer was suspended following complaints that he had sexually abused other monks, including Father Jonathan Monckton, who left the monastery in 1987 after no action was taken against Father Brenninkmeyer.[32] Father Moncton was not the only complainant.
In 2001, Father John Bolton was suspended for hugging a boy inappropriately.[33] Father John died on 26 June 2013.[34] The headmaster at the time was Father Christopher Jamison, who is currently Abbot President of the English Benedictine Congregation. On 5 June 2018, the IICSA determined that its case study of the English Benedictine Congregation would not include Worth School and Abbey because the evidence in regard of Downside and Ampleforth is sufficient to address the English Benedictine Congregation.[35]

I worked as a houseman (ie a male domestic servant paid a pittance and housed in one of the many valuable houses the abbey owns in Ealing). It was an awful, dysfunctional and deeply unhappy place. The prior, David Pearce, who went to prison, gave me the creeps, as did Soper, who was also convicted. The monks lived in great style and with beautiful antique furniture in their bedrooms. Some of them hated one another. Gregory Chilman was a roaring alcoholic who used to saw the most awful things to the terrified lay staff. I could stick it for only a short while.

“The other option is for the RCC to change it teachings on homosexuality and celibacy.” Sorry, + Pat, but that is not going to happen, not soon anyways. There is still a firmly entrenched sense of sin surrounding sex, any sex, and to change the relationship between sex and priesthood, or sex between people of the same sex, is something that the RCC is going to find almost impossible to do. In part because of the self-loathing theology of the body that the current leadership of the Church has been weaned on, and in part because the duplicitous, lying, double life modus vivendi of the vast majority of clergy is just so ingrained in the clerical culture. Everything mitigates against any change in mind and attitude. The author of this diary has done the only thing available for him to live an authentic life – namely, to leave the Jesuits and the RCC and to seek a new home, in this case the Episcopal Church. He has had the courage to do that, unlike so many of his confreres, who seem content to buy in to a damaging and self-limiting pact with the Church whereby they continue to enjoy the fruits and comforts of their lives as long as they do so in secret and keep quiet. That is a recipe for unhappiness, dysfunction and unhappiness for all concerned. What strikes me most about this account is the number of self-identifying, sexually and culturally gay active clergy there are, who are known about by other priests and bishops, who seem content to accept this damaging pact and carry on with their comfortable lives, rather than being honest, open and truthful to themselves and to others. There is a huge culture of hypocrisy there. Mind you, hypocrisy appears to be a defining characteristic of the clerical culture and life, as we have seen in many other areas of the lives of priests and the Church. I have little reason to suspect that this is going to change. Anybody who wants to be honest and open and truthful about themselves really should, like this young man, look for a new spiritual home away from the RCC, where they can live an honest, truthful, open , authentic and transparent life. That is not to be found in the priesthood of the RCC. I speak as someone who has experienced decades of the culture that this young former Jesuit describes, and I many years ago decided to detach myself from that culture. Difficult though it has been, at least I can hold my head high and know that I no longer live a lie, and can be honest about myself and my life. There is great integrity in that, I believe, no matter what the costs. My experience is that most priests who are living in the shadows are simply not willing to pay the price. So, they carry on, harming themselves and those around them. Unhappy hypocrites they are. I feel sorrow for them.

ALL Roman Catholic priests ultimately live in the moral shadows, and they do so by choice. So deep is their committment to an institution ‘corrupt, and riddled with corruption’ that they have no alternative. And the committment springs not from a desire to serve Christ (hardly, yet this is the lie they tell themselves, and others, at ordination and thereafter), but from self-interest and from a desire for self-aggrandisenent.

The Letter to the Hebrews makes clear the absolute futility of any kind of priesthood for salvation, and all forms are rendered redundant and obsolete by Christ’s death and resurrection. Despite this (and against the express lesson in Hebrews) a priestly hierarchy was re-established among Christ’s disciples. Ever since, the effects of this evil, priestly institution have historically been suffered by great swathes of others, Christians and non-Christians alike.

Whenever you see a Roman Catholic priest, you see someone whose presence is contrary to the will of Christ: you see someone who belongs to an instituion whose legacy to the world is a catalogue of atrocious evil, both revealed and (as today’s blog makes clear) hidden.

Give no money to a Roman Catholic priest. If he expects money from you (and most certainly hope for money, since this means most to them), tell him, like everyone else on the planet, to get a bloody job.

The RCC is approaching a Galileo moment on this – the sun does not go round the Earth, and sex is not just for reproduction. OTOH, the enemies of the RCC can be more detached from reality -you do not have to indulge in sex to be “fully human”, nor be obliged to have sex “in order to express your personal identity”. I’ve been abused by people who asserted these delusions, and trust the RCC teaching on the function of sex as less abusive, albeit flawed. BTW, I’m autistic and demisexual, and I find the neurotypical obsession with sex repulsive.

Like

Demisexual: sexual attraction only follows on the formation of a strong asexual emotional bond, often not gender-specific and not part of the subjective personality.

Like

I see a lot of good in that. The sexual following the emotional and the two working together.

Like

The demisexual response could explain a lot of “odd” human sexual behaviour. For example, strongly bonded teams of “straight” men working in hazardous environments have been noted as demonstrating gay sexual behaviour when reaching safety -soldiers, coalminers, English football hooligans. Not sure about lesbians, for as usual they are overlooked. Also bereaved families indulging in consensual incest.

Like

I’m also autistic but not obsessed with sex. I resent the demonisation of those who have sex without personal relationships.
I am not promiscuous but I find sex without the emotional entanglement of personal relationships more enjoyable.
Too much is made of casual sex – so long as consenting adults are involved the only moral aspect of the act is that the participants ( no matter the number) be honest with each other.

Like

The whole aspect of human sexuality has been cursed by the reluctance to ask two simple scientific questions: “What actually goes on?” and “Why?” Myth-making and the blind eye are not the preserve of religion -witness Freud, and the gay activists who object to the scientific theory that “they are gay because they would be more fertile if they were women”. (This would make the RCC right in claiming that a gay preference is a disorder, but the theory can’t explain lesbians.) As regards the suspicion of casual sex -that might be evolutionally hard-wired in humans, because of the problem of sexually transmitted pathogens.

Glad to hear it. Wish I had seen it.

Eamon Martin’s weasly apologia sought also (though less obviously) to exonerate the ruthless and merciless moral leadership in Ireland from his episcopal predecessors. Had it not been for their pharaisaism, cruelty, and dismissive judgement and condemnation of unmarried mothers, the religious who ran those homes would have received a better, and authoritative, Christian example, and likely (in an Ireland of high episcopal deference) would not have behaved as they did.

I agree with Martin in one respect: the religious who operated those hellholes should not be scapegoated for what went on in them, because to scapegoat someone means to hold him responsible for the conduct of others. And these religious are not being held unfairly responsible for the actions of which they are accused: they were, ACTUALLY, responsible for them, because they, ACTUALLY, committed them.

But the root of this atrocious conduct lies not so much in the religious themselves, oddly enough, but in the evil moral teaching and example they received from Catholic hierarchs…like Eamon Martin. The Martins of the past, in a ridgidly hierarchcal Church, set the moral tone. And how!

Principally, I hold such men as Archbishop Eamon Martin responsible for what went on in the Ireland of those times: they had the authority and the opportunity both to effect and to affect the moral climate of the island, and yet they remained in acquiesent silence in face of one of the most harrowing chapters in Irish ecclesial history.

Christ-betrayers!

Like

1.27: Magna, you should correctly have concluded your last paragraph by adding that, NOT ONLY did bishops remain in acquiescent silence in the face of one of the most harrowing chapters in IRISH SOCIETY (church included) BUT also the population as a whole. And undoubtedly, your forebears, parents and grandparents, relatives and neighbours whispered their condemnations as they passed by these institutions….much like WE do today as we pass the homeless or begging children on our streets or mutter apologies for those in direct provision centres or the horrendous trafficking of your girls for the sex industry….YES, the past was a horrendous place but let our knowledge and insights of painful truths compel us to ensure no woman, family or child suffers needlessly because of our present day injustices. Your narrative is very biased….MC!!

Read the comment again, this time with a less jaundiced eye.

If what you say about the population as a whole is correct, then from whom did it receive such behaviour? From the institutional Church itself, principally from the Catholic hierarchy. In an Ireland highly deferential to its Catholic episcopate (and which Pope Benedict would later criticise for it) the people took their lead from these fellows.

Even so, did ANY member of the Irish episcopate speak up and out in public denunciation of these hellholes? To my knowledge, not one. Zilch. And certainly no footsoldier: no priest.

I am right. Men like Eamon Martin set a terrible moral tone for the whole of Ireland: mysogynistic, judgemental, merciless, cruel and condemnatory.

CHRIST-BETRAYERS, the lot of them!

Even now, Martin has the audacity to attempt to revise social history: to hang responsibility for these outrages on others rather than on those to whom it rightly belongs, his episcopal predecessors.

Martin is a moral coward and a deceiver.

Do not let the Roman Catholic hierarchy get away with yet another historical whitewash.

Er, were any ‘good’ priests involved in this evisceration? I’m sure the airwaves were buzzing with their righteous indignation against Martin’s cowardly evasion and injustice, especially from all the ‘good and holy’ priests of that premier diocese and bastion of spiritual authority, the Archdiocese of Armagh. 😕

Like

4.25: Magna, you are the revisionist. All of society was complicit. All political comnentary and even our President have accepted the state was very culpable as it did not live up to its social and moral ideals. Detailed reports about the conditions in these gulags were made known repeatedly to local officials and government by women visitors but sadly, these reports were ignored by all in power at the time. We cannot use the excuse that in the late 70’s and 80’s we weren’t aware of such abuses in our institutions and mother and baby homes. We were an emerging, learning and educated peoole but we still passed by. Ignorance, fear and moral oppression cannot be an excuse in the 70’s, 80’s and 90’s…Absolutely not. I recall in the early 80’s asking about these “places” and though I expressed shock – as many did – I wasn’t outraged suffiiciently to say STOP – THIS IS WRONG – and somehow I imagine you, your family and relatives acted similarly. I abhor the abuse of power and the moral terrorism of the Church as it assumed responsibilities for our society – unquestioned and unchallenged, sadly, but state personnel of all hues were involved in this horror. You, Magna, need to throw your hatred into the bin, otherwise you do nothing to effect justice for survivors and, as per usual, you are the proverbial laptop beast spitting your venom through every word…

You cannot see it, can you? Perhaps you really cannot. Nor, then, could you see the real power once held by the Irish Catholic episcopate to bend meekly to its controlling, theocratic will almost an entire relgious demographic in Ireland. Now THAT’S power!
The very deference you have expressed to avoid pinning the blame for these human outrages where it correctly belongs (on those with the power to set such moral tones, men like Eamon Martin) is the very deference which allowed them to have forcibly imprisoned, without protest from the general population, vulnerable young women whose only ‘crime’ was to be human, and to bear a life outside marriage, which you, and your kind, considered lesser than. These evil men even had an entire police force, An Garda Siochana, commissioned through Catholic deference to them to hunt down these vulnerable women and to act as their jailers.
The fact you admit that you were moved by this evil system (but not sufficiently to campaign for its abolition) shows not so much your obvious moral cowardice, but the extent of the deferential brainwashing you received at the hands of the institutional Roman Catholic Church.
In the 1980s, the Roman Catholic Church in Ireland still weilded considerable influence here, and I am not at all surprised that you were rendered by it too spineless to do anything about a situation you knew was gross, and gravely wrong. I dont hold you responsible for your moral gutlessness as much as I do a controlling, Roman Catholic episcopate. Men like Eamon Martin.
However, you have no such excuse now for this deference, and for this I DO hold you responsible. The fact that you have tried so hard, but unsuccessfully, to refute my points convinces me that there is more than a little cognitive dissonance going on in your head: you know I am right, but your ingrained loyalty to moral pygmies like Eamon Martin won’t allow you to accept the truth.
Eamon Martin is a morally spineless purveyor of untruth here.
People like you, clerical cap-doffing fools, are now a dwindling minority in Ireland. And thank…Well, thank whomever you wish, but be grateful anyhow.
Most people in Ireland have the measure of men like Eamon Martin, and the rest of the episcopal Christ-betrayers here.
Your day has come, and gone. And good riddance to it!

Hugh Gilbert is 68 and maybe a possibility but Glasgow is needing to many changes and a third of the Parishes closed also there too many HIGHLY paid staff in Clyde Street.
Cushley will only go two places either Rome or Glasgow but most likely stay at St. Bennet’s.
Bill Nolan was to get Motherwell and did not happen and had a heart attack but would love Glasgow.
The only one so far that has said they do not want Glasgow is Archbishop Cushley as for the rest are desperate for it. (Cushley is saying nothing)
truth be told depend on how the Papal Nuncio does his homework and if clever then Cushley transferred to Glasgow and McGee to Edinburgh as Keenan has made it to well known he is a careerist.

Very honest and moving account by a young gay man seeking a male partner, but it could just as well have been a priest seeking a female partner. The important think is that they are seeking love from another mature soul. It might not even have to be in a Christian context for the ancient Greeks of both sexes faced exactly the same problems: the search for human love. So what is the particularity of human love, It is what Holderlin, the German poet and his friend Hegel, who first identified love as finding oneself in the other. That is the suppression of one’s own individually in favour of the other, and they performing the selfsame sacrifice for one self. The subject and the object cease to be autonomous and we have the beginings of a community as such relations multiply. But the Catholic Church with their two-tier humanity, the anointed and non-anointed, were the enemy of community so is it any wonder that their was a mass exodus out of Mr de Valera’s ireland – with the highest emigration rates in Europe.
We have to be careful here lest our poor ‘Anonymous’ friend of ‘Jan 16th 6.46’, he of the one note complaint about the tone of ‘first year’s speech at the L&D at Maynooth’ (whatever that is) might have his sensibilities hurt, or he might not be able to follow, but he will have to suffer on for I don’t think that anything I have said on this website was ever heard in Maynooth, which is why the Catholic churches are emptying today.
The search for love is what was missing in Irish life, because it wasn’t understood; it had been replaced by that wishy-washy ‘Agape’ substitute, the disinterested love of God for his creation, which was probably something Augustine of Hippo dreamed up. But he, himself, knew what human love was with his concubine, whose name he couldnt bear to honour her with, but who gave a son which he loved deeply. Read the masterful biography fo Augustine by possibly the greatest theological thinker that Ireland has produced, the Droheda born historian Peter Brown, and who has made that whole period between the pagan classical world and the early Christian imperial world his own particular field of expertise.
Love is finding in the other the answer for one’s own desires in a full human sense, and that includes the involvement of body, as the body is all we have with which to express ourselves. Or in the comforting touch of a supportive hand in some crisis, or in any act of kindness or gift. It can never be found in paedophilic acts because children cannot answer any of our needs. They need nurture and guidance and help into adulthood: they need our support, not our abuse. The pleasures they give us in return are the innocent ones in seeing their young spirits develop as they give us back what we taught them. So let us never go in that direction and call the police on anyone who does. Plato and the Greeks never imposed sex on children, nor did they engage in rape of the young men in their charge like it appears that some professors in some of the Irish seminaries do.
And the priests went on to poison Irish society with their anti-women teaching, so that the Dail was forced to hold a National enquiry into Emigration and Other population Problems 1848-1954, which revealed the higher proportion of emigration of young women out of Ireland in comparisons with men, the decline and later and later dates of marriages occurring. Bishop Lucy of Cork on the commission issued his own minority report, but he hadn’t far to look for the answers for they were right under his nose, in his Church’s promotion of macho maleness and belittling of women. Ireland had forgotten what the essence of human love was, and this young man in his touching letter on this blog could have taught him much. Let us wish him his hear’s desire.

He is a nice man. I am
Not condoning what he did but his accuser was known
For being mad and the judge was surprised by the jury so gave out a
Minimum sentence and he was released after a few months. I suspect an appeal may have found his actions were reciprocated.

5.57: I accept that the Church preached a very horrible view of sexuality and burdened us with guilt over sexual failings. I have condemned this many, many times in recent decades. I do ABHOR all abuses. These too I have condemned. I have endeavoured over the years to be part of support groups. That aside, I regret personally that in the 70’s and 80’s and from thenceforth that I didn’t use my education, insights and observations to question the existence of these institutions. Only for Catherine Coress’s dedication it is quite probable that we would still be “in denial” and moving on as a modern, liberal, progressive nation. I accept that the religious who worked in the institutions did not act with compassion or care and are therefore culpable. The women and children were placed in their care by the Church, families, HSE, doctors and judiciary, by the state. I am not absolving the Church. Not at all but I am glad that, while you apportion the lion’s share of responsibility on the Church, you also acknowledge that “society” and others were aware and complicit by our silence….even up to the late 90’s!! That’s just like yesterday…

‘Father’ doesn’t get it.
And incidentally sounds like Miss Jean Brodie.
6:30 does the world a favour. As long as RC clerics are spewing their hatred on here the world is freed from their ministrations.
That is if you actually are a priest, I’ve got a sneaking suspicion you’re some wag doing a caricature of one. If so, well done, you expose the self-centredness of these men to perfection. Whatever you actually are, when you keep saying you get it and other people tell you you don’t, that is a reliable indication you should STFU and listen.

6.30: NC, you do yourself no favours by your constant condemnatiry hatred of all things Catholic. However I accept my responsibilities in the face of wrongs and abuses it will never be enough for you. When I became truly aware, I acted with a sense of care by being part of support groups (because of teenage sexual abuse) and whenever I could, I helped many in painful and difficult situations. There is never enough now which any of us can sufficiently do to heal survivors but I will do what I can. Your sneering at my comments and suggesting, by your untruths and twisted theology that I gave my conscience to men not CHRIST is erroneous as it is laughable, ignorant and risible. My life’s story speaks a kinder, very different narrative. The people I have worked with and for know the TRUTH. Your bias is predictable.

I am not trying to do myself any favours; I simply tell the bald truth about an institution, of which truth you remain in stubborn and obvious denial.
How the hell can you claim obedience to Christ while similtaneously pledging it to an institution ‘corrupt, and riddled with corruption’? This is no quibble. Can you tell me, SENSIBLY, how promising obedience to another human being and his successors, all of whom upon episcopal consecretion MUST promise to uphold Canon Law (‘the precepts of men’) squares with obedience to Christ through upholding the primacy of personal conscience?
As for your helping with ‘support groups’, it is not enough, because it does not go to the root of the problem in the Church: the evil laws (those precepts) that enabled your fellow clerics to duck civil responsibility for their cowardly and atrocious crimes. In fact, your involvement smacks of classic avoidance of responsibility for the terrible conduct of the institutional church you willingly continue to serve.
You’re a coward and a liar, priest.
When was the last time you spoke out, and in full public view, against the vile institution you serve. Answer me. When?

8.08: MC: I learned quickly – I instinctively knew – that my loyalty is to CHRIST. He was and is my reference point for my ministry. Were I to offer my life to be nailed to a cross for atonement, it still wouldn’t satisfy you. Your propensity for aggressive and belittling rhetoric is counter productive with me. Let me assure you, my voice has expressed my total dissatisfaction and revulsion with the revelations of recent decades. My voice was heard at relevant places through the written word and various venues. Your ignorant dismissiveness of my being part of a support group for survivors is revealing of your own inner brokenness and your desire for revenge of some kind. You need therapy to help you confront your demons. You are hurting for many decades: do what I and many others have done: find therapy and be pro active in supporting survivors. Slinging your arrows of hatred achieves noting worthwhile. Involvement in the lives of those who are survivors, however small, is a more productive way to use your energy. Your venom only makes me more determined to emulate CHRIST first and foremost. With God all things are possible!!

It’s entertaining to see the wee Scotties getting their knicks in a twist over who goes to Glasgow as Archbishop. In the grand scheme of things who can be bothered or even care? How much will the new Arch influence or affect any of our lives? Zero!! Did Bishop Toal not say one time he would have the ferry from Larne watched in case you Pat set foot in his former diocese? You did a retreat for some clergy in Scotland at the time. Poor Joe wouldn’t be able now to see anyone stepping of the ferry.

Bishop Toal was right and acting in accordamce with Canon Law in not allowing Pat into his diocese. Bishop Joseph is a wise man and probably acting according to the Papal Nuncio.

I agree with you totally, in reality even in marriage sex is often ‘recreational’, and honesty is the key. I think the reason the clergy vilify casual sex is because when they do it, it’s shallow, addictive and abusive.

Shocked to read eamonn Martin remarks on home and baby case. Is he quite deluded and in denial as to what’s going on around and inside rcc since 1920s re institutional abuse and home and baby case.
I can’t understand why did they (Vatican) pick him in the first place. His speech was obviously aided by a PR speechwriter but it doesn’t do him any good but made him look bad or worse? He’s out of touch as he received a mighty backlash from the public. He seems don’t have a finger on the pulse.
Rcc in Ireland are fast becoming more irrelevant in people lives as they were exposed big time re Martin speech.
