Principal Jean Pound.
Since the Father Carey story broke the principal of Colaiste Muire, Jean Pound, has received emails and telephone calls about having the priest’s photo and data on the school website.
Yesterday the school removed all reference to their (former ? ) chaplain.
I suppose one of Ms Pound’s dilemmas was that Father Carey had been appointed by Fintan Monahan and only Fintan Monahan could remove him.
One caller to Ms Pound did suggest to her that she should immediately inform the parents of what had happened and that this would be in line with Safeguarding.
Sadly, Ms Pound and her highly-regarded college were dragged into this scandal through no fault of their own but by the actions of the chaplain himself.
It is a sad incident in its history.
WHEN DID FINTAN MONAHAN KNOW OF FATHER CAREY’S ARREST?
Father Carey was arrested on August 3 rd 2020 – over 6 months ago.
Some Killaloe clergy are saying that Fintan Monahan did not know of the the arrest immediately?
Father Carey should have informed Monahan immediately. Did he?
And Fintan Monahan should have immediately remove Carey as Colaiste Muire chaplain and replaced him – allowing the school to be taken completely out of the equation.
I do think that Ms Pound must now inform the children’s parents of what has happened?
Has Fr Carey been in the school since his arrest on August 3 rd?
