The Co-PP of Ennis – Father Ger Fitzgerald – has been accused by a lady parishioner of being her lover.
The accusation was made on Facebook by one female in a dispute with another female, with her claiming she was “fucking a priest in this town” – Ennis.
The two sparring females seem to be an Yvonne Drake and a Tina Whelan?
Is this the same Tina Whelan?

PAT SAYS
I have known Father Ger since he was a seminarian. He is a very likeable young man and as far as I know, is liked by parishioners.
The problem is – if you live a double life, as a public figure – a day of reckoning will always come.
I don’t know if Ger was sexually involved with more than one woman at a time – and if he was did he not realise he was skating on thin ice.
Has he not heard about: “Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned”?
He also lives and ministers in a rural area where a double life is extra difficult to hide.
Ger was never suited to celibacy. He was too fond of the “mons veneris” and all that goes with it.
Mind you, Ger is a rarity. He is one of the few RC heterosexual priests in captivity.
He is only 39. He has the rest of his life to live.
If he is wise he will embrace a new career and be free to be a hubbie and a daddy.
Last night Fintan Monahan confirmed that the matter of Fr Fitzgerald was being processed through all the proper civil and ecclesiastical routes.
Fintan has been under pressure. This is the second sexual priestly scandal in Killaloe in as many weeks and from the the pastoral area of Ennis.
The other one was the case of Fr Carey masturbation on Salthill beach in Galway.
Today, Ger is still listed as a Co PP

One of the big gripes of the ACP is that there’s no due process by dioceses when priests are accused of abuse and that even with unfounded accusations bishops shun them. The episcopal pendulum has swung too far the other way, according to some in the ACP.

I would condemn protestant, Muslims for not blessing gay unions. Its love not the sin that unites them. I knew some gays as I recognised some of them werent straight from age 5 to 7 . I didn’t understand why they were so different cos I was v v young until late teens that they were gays attracted to males. I did ask one of them, how did u become gay? He said he was born with it as he knew he was gay at age 4 or 5. So I respect his view even i was going through gay bashing period v v long time ago. They need to be loved as they were looking for love.
Found rcc too legalistic for my liking. There was no mention of ‘mortal’ sin in the scripture as they only mentioned just the word ‘sin’. So I’m guessing here that rcc evolved and split the terminology of sin into two type of sins.

It’s a bit late to be starting a new career at the age of 39 and having “Catholic priest” on your CV won’t help. I don’t agree having former priest on your CV will stop you having a good career or entering the professions. If you are honest and say you could not cope with celibacy then employers are sympathetic. If you’ve been a clerical nonce, like anyone, you will fail to get on. The problem is that there is no help at all for guys to leave priesthood, and many remain out of fear. If you go, you may be lucky to get a couple of thousand pounds which does not go far. Your so called ‘clerical friends’ will ghost you and the inevitable family disappointment should it involve having to come out. I was fortunate in that my bishop was prepared to give my first employer a reference – but I guess most would not do that now, or if they did it would be no more than a gravestone one.
The army provides former soldiers with skills on finding employment when military life ends. Help is needed for formers priests with career guidance, CV assistance, job interview preparation and financial assistance. It’s a shame that there is no body in existence that could pool together the skills and experiences of former priests to help those who are leaving or thinking about leaving.

They rewarded Chestle with a mitre, albeit that which goes with the title of Protonotary Apostolic. 1. From a cursory look at this post, these women sound like classy characters ! Not ! I don’t like listening to such language, especially from the mouths of women.
2. + Pat is right. If you live a double life as a priest, it will eventually catch up with you. Do not be surprised, Fathers !
3. The real issue here is about this priest’s publicly professed vow of celibacy, and that will be something that he implicitly by his status as a priest is portraying to all around him, and yet his private life is in stark contrast to that. No matter which way you cut it, his actions and the way he is living his life, is hypocritical, untruthful, and lacking in integrity. The facts are simple for priests. If the Church requires you to be celibate, and if you freely of your own will make that promise, then you have only one option – that is to live a celibate life. Until such time as the Church changes this requirement – and no time soon, it seems – then that requirement still exists, no matter how fair it is or how suited on unsuited you are to keeping it. If you are not able to keep your promise of celibacy, dear Fathers, then do the honest thing and move out and on. Please stop thinking that you have a right to live a life that is lacking in integrity and openness, and believing that you can carry it off. Because, as this has shown, we laity do know what you are up to, and it is inevitable that you will be outed. Save yourselves the trouble. Save us having to have our trust in our priests continually chipped away at. There is not much left to chip away. Do the right thing. You will feel better for it. We will be relieved.

He might have been seduced, though. Why automatically rule out the possibility?
There were female lay students in Maynooth who deliberately set out to seduce seminarians, which is yet another reason why Maynooth shouldn’t have lay students. One of the good side effects of the lockdown is that the sems in Maynooth are now a proper community, as Trent intended, and they will be all the better for it.

A diocesan priest should (lol) be prepared to face the reality of all sorts of temptation. Your suggestion is an invitation to sexual deviants and boys who can’t tell mummy why they never bring a nice girl home.
But keep pressing for what you want – more emotional cripples as priests will just hasten the institutions demise.

@11.16
Those who were most concerned by the female lay students were the gay seminarians who were jealous when peers were able to hold a conversation with females. I should warn you that speaking to a female does not equate with intention to get into her knickers, or get her out of them.
Years later it turned out that the gay seminarians who were concerned most about this issue were focused on speaking with other gay seminarians whose knickers they were frequenting regularly.
I recall my formator was surprised that I was able to hold conversation with both males and females. His surprise was only surpassed by my bishop’s review of my psychological report going into first divine – which is summed up in the statement “It says here that you are hetrosexual?” When I agreed with the report he put it on the table and never spoke about it again.
Nothing against priests who are gay but having a few priests about who are hetrosexual is good. It helps relate to the 90% of male in the congregation who also identify as hetrosexual. We need a cross-section of people in ministry.
Fr Ger, is an interesting guy. Nice to see a hetrosexual priest about. I know several of the lay students used to fancy him and there is also the reality in ministry that some parishioners form unhealthy attachments. I can imagine this being a problem for Ger. His love of the message of Christ is undoubted. He is loyal to the mission and good with bringing people along.
Has he broken his commitment to being chaste; I cannot say because I have neither slept with him not witnessed him sleep with another.
Is he the victim of malicious postings on the internet. Perhaps. There are all sorts of folk out there. If he slept with her she should produce evidence to the bishop – not to facebook. Personal relationships are best resolved privately. Fr Ger is without doubt a benefit and comfort to many and his good ministry to them should be allowed continue – at least until some credible evidence says he is not worthy of his ministry.
I wonder is he continued to meet with you post-ordination +Pat, would you have posted this blog today or tried to resolve it privately?

Thank you for your honest reply. I suppose what I meant was if Ger had remained on good terms with you would he be the example pulled out of the hat today, as opposed to another.
To be honest I felt worse when he came out about Maynooth being great when he was there. I know from many sources that it was not – but I sometimes wonder was his arm twisted by someone to make the statement. I honestly think that ministry will never get the best out of him as long as celibacy is required.
He is also a member of a class that appears here regularly. One of the Kalendariums on my shelf records him as having joined with Fergal O’Neill, (mentioned here earlier today), Thomas McHugh, Ryan McAlear… and others. Not many went on to be ordained from that class; and it appears several have already left. Some made it to deaconate but that was all. Their dean that year was newly appointed, and followed them into the role as senior dean before leaving priesthood himself. A bleak time for ‘return on investment’ under Archbishop Farrell & Hughy Connolly.

The administration of the dioceses of Killaloe is being done under Civil Law as well as Canon law so both are suspended there is nothing more Bishop Fintan can do till it runs the course of canon law.

Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; (John 11:25)
A House Divided Cannot Stand
22 Then one was brought to Him who was demon-possessed, blind and mute; and He healed him, so that the [a]blind and mute man both spoke and saw. 23 And all the multitudes were amazed and said, “Could this be the Son of David?”
24 Now when the Pharisees heard it they said, “This fellow does not cast out demons except by [b]Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons.”
25 But Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them: “Every kingdom divided against itself is brought to desolation, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand. 26 If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then will his kingdom stand? 27 And if I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom do your sons cast them out? Therefore they shall be your judges. 28 But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the kingdom of God has come upon you. (Matthew 12:22-28)
34 Jesus replied, “The people of this age marry and are given in marriage. 35 But those who are considered worthy of taking part in the age to come and in the resurrection from the dead will neither marry nor be given in marriage, 36 and they can no longer die; for they are like the angels. They are God’s children, since they are children of the resurrection. (Luke 20:34-36)
He will also keep you firm to the end, so that you will be blameless on the day of our Lord Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 1:8)

BAME quotas will be used for justification for propping up failing dioceses with African and Indian imports. Look at the diocese of Wrexham in Wales, more than half of the priests serving there are imported. They have not had an ordination in over 20 years….

This article is an absolute disgrace! “Bishop Pat Buckely” meant to be a man of god but is online spreading rumours and bullying! You should NEVER post things online over what you hear as they say rumours spread faster than the truth. You should be very ashamed of yourself!! Father Ger is an extremely good priest and is amazing with the community here in Ennis town. Maybe in future you will find out some truth before posting accusations online and ruining an innocent mans life and reputation, you should bow your head in shame your an absolute disgrace!

Those two were anything but good priests, they were a disgrace, a pair of attention seekers who purported to be so good. They were inveterate liars and cheats both to there communities and their strumpets. It’s a pity Cleary wasn’t found out before he died, but thanks be to God Casey was and he at least got his just desserts.

7.09 I remember similar indignation when stories emerged of Cardinals McCarrick and O’Brien. Both turned out to be a total disgrace to their calling. Hopefully, at 39 the young priest can leave and build himself a new life. There can be no place in the priesthood for those who fail in their sacred promise of celibacy. These women must have been extremely hurt to make their feelings known on Facebook. I always remember the Dominican, Ratcliffe saying priests must not behave like ‘emotional tourists’ when forming relationships and then moving on to the next when they satisfied their curiosity.

Father Ger is a well respected priest in the town of Ennis, the rumours that have spread have been made up by a very jealous and sad woman. Father Ger and Tina Whelan have been good friends for a long time. There is no way they could possibly be seeing each other as they are never alone theres always a 3rd party with them. Tina and Ger also do a lot for this community and this is the thanks there getting for all they’ve done and continue to do. Ye should be ashamed of the bullying ye continue to do online. Father Ger doesnt deserve any of this hes an extremely nice man and well loved here in Ennis.

If priests had any sense the would stick to the old adage ” No particular friendships” then there would be no reason for all the evil gossips to spread their lies, usually because of jealousy.

Yvonne Drake is well known for spreading rumours around Ennis. She never was and never will be with Father Ger in anyway. Ger is a good man who only trys to help people in their time of need! He is a good man, good priest and very good company! He knows how to have a laugh and joke but he also knows his limits, Father Ger is by far the best priest to ever come to Cloughleigh and to Ennis Town. If that man deserves anything it’s a reward for all he does for the community and the people in it.

but Ms Drake didn’t say it was Fr Ger. If you are insinuating that it was, then he merits a right of reply. Will Fr Ger be taking defamation action against the lady in question, will he be making a statement, will the Diocese clarify the situation, will Ms Drake be retracting her comments?

Father Ger does not have a job he has a vocation to priestly life and part of that priestly vow is to stay celibate.
His caring and understanding is not in question it is the celibacy.
it has been said by many seminarians and clergy Father Ger struggles with this so it is simple He should leave.
He will never have a happy life in the priesthood if he is attracted to ladies.
It is not a job as he is not a social worker.

Fr Ger is not only an excellent priest he also cares a lot for the community, he does everything he can for anyone who needs a helping hand. He would go to the end of the earth if he could for a stranger in need, not many priests even bother with the community as much as he does. He doesn’t have to do what he does for the community he chooses to do good. Fr Ger really does not deserve any of this hes a good man. Shame on you people who are trying to ruin Fr Gers reputation, maybe ye should stop and think it’s not just his reputation it’s his life. He’s only human.
