COMPARE WHAT HAPPENED IN LOUISIANA AND KILDORREY IN CLOYNE!

Louisiana priest who desecrated altar charged with vandalism

New Orleans, La., Mar 22, 2021 / 07:01 pm MT (CNA).- A priest of the Archdiocese of New Orleans arrested last year along with two women after filming a pornographic video on a parish church altar has been charged with vandalism.

Fr. Travis Clark, 37, along with Mindy Dixon, 41, and Melissa Cheng, 28, were charged March 18 with felony vandalism by the local district attorney.

Each face up to two years imprisonment if found guilty.

On Sept. 30, 2020, Fr. Clark, recently the pastor of Ss. Peter and Paul parish in Pearl River, 40 miles northeast of New Orleans, was discovered filming himself in sex acts with Dixon and Cheng on the altar of the parish church.

A local resident told police they noticed the lights were on in the church and looked through the windows, discovering the three. One of the women is reported to be a self-avowed satanist.

Fr. Clark was arrested on an obscenity charge Oct. 1, and was released from jail on a $25,000 bond.

He was also removed from priestly ministry Oct. 1.

Sarah McDonald, communications director at the New Orleans archdiocese, told CNA last year that Fr. Clark been asked to “seek laicization immediately.” If he does not request dismissal from the clerical state, he could face the penalty as the result of a canonical trial.

Aymond

Archbishop Gregory Aymond of New Orleans performed a penitential rite required for continued use of the church for sacramental purposes Oct. 10, and consecrated a new altar.

Fr. Clark was ordained a priest in 2013.

A seminary professor told CNA in October that Fr. Clark had been a poor student who made little effort, which should have been a red flag.

Chistopher Baglow, a theologian who taught Fr. Clark in seminary, told CNA that he believes the priest’s misdeeds point to a problem with seminary evaluation.

In the seminary, nothing about Fr. Clark’s behavior suggested that the priest would later do the things of which he is accused, Baglow said. But he did recall concerns about the seminarian.

The theologian remembered Fr. Clark for being a student who didn’t participate in class, was negligent of assignments, and seemed often “to be flying under the radar.”

“It was clear he wasn’t trying, and some made it known,” Baglow said. “It was often countered that pastoral gifts and holiness do not require great theological genius, and the concern was expressed by some colleagues that we should avoid focusing too much on academics.”

But Baglow said his concern about Fr. Clark, or other students who gave evidence of not trying, was not about academics, but character.
Baglow said he does not expect academic excellence from all students. But he does believe seminaries should expect effort, and evidence of virtue, in students.

“Tolerating mediocrity in a man allows tolerance for other kinds of unacceptable things.”

“Mediocrity can be a cover for other problems — sometimes very serious problems,” Baglow said.

Condoning “mediocrity” in the evaluation of seminarians, the theologian said, lowers the Church’s standards in the calibre of men who become priests. The Church should accept men for priesthood who want to be excellent academically, spiritually, pastorally, and morally, Baglow told CNA.

The theologian told CNA that in his view “the system isn’t broken, it’s just missing a part.”

He urged that seminaries develop committees of “well-formed knowledgeable Catholic lay people who are part of vocation evaluation and discernment.”

Such committees would give recommendations about the suitability of candidates for orders independent of seminary staff or faculty, Baglow said, giving bishops the benefit of perspective and judgement outside the clerical and ecclesiastical milieu.

PAT SAYS

I cannot comprehend how a priest descreates an altar by having sex on it.

Such a priest must be either very ill or very evil – or perhaps a mixture of both.

However, in New Orleans, we see how a bishop should cope with such a blasphemy.

Archbishop Aymond had the altar destroyed and held a penitential ceremony for the blasphemy.

Then, a new altar was installed and blessed by the archbishop.

BUT KILDORREY AND CREAN:

Crean

In Kildorrery in the diocese of Cloyne in Ireland, the sexual desecration of an altar was handled in a thick and stupid way by a thick Kerry man bishop, Crean.

Crean convinced himself the altar sex didnt happen.

He further convinced himself that the photos of the homosexual altar sex was “photoshopped”.

And he believed poor Father Lomasney, a long term alcoholic and active homosexualist, who denied the incident.

SEMINARIAN INVOLVED?

A further complication of the Kildorrery incident is the allegation that a seminarian was the other party involved with Lomasney?

Crean knows tge name of the seminarian and the seminarian’s bishop has also been informed.

Rome is also involved.

Even when I saw the headline I was going to comment that ‘Father’ was obviously found suitable for ordination lol. A suitable candidate marked by duplicity and sacrilege.
And a similar situation going on elsewhere including a seminarian!
I hate to think what the ones they’re not concerned about are doing!

I know in Ireland we tend not to speak ill of the dead, however, what happened on the altar between the late Fr. Lomasney and (allegedly) a seminarian studying for the priesthood is nothing short of a scandal. It was a sacrilege that cries out for vengeance and indeed justice.

It may well be the case that Fr. Lomasney was an alcoholic and may have been suffering from mental health issues. But lots of priests in Ireland have interesting relationships with alcohol, some of them may be struggling to be faithful to their priestly obligations, but they do not have sex on an altar.

The priest will now have to deal with the consequences of his actions before that most just of Judges. And we commend him to God’s everlasting mercy. However, the seminarian needs to be immediately dismissed.

Bishop Crean is a second-class intellect. He was the third choice for that diocese. He is obdurate and dislikes to have his authority questioned. He can, I am told be kind and good-humoured, but his handling of the situation is woeful. Fortunately, he is 69; he will turn 70 on December 16, and then the priests of Cloyne will only have to endure him for another five years.

I know not Bishop Crean, of whom you speak in, I am sure, suitably reserved terms. Those with power who fall back on their authority when questioned are indeed lacking the verbracity and conolous requirements so necessary for anyone elevated to the episcopate. ‘Crean’ is a strange nomenclature. I think it is indicative of the personality you have described. ‘CreaM’ might be better – ha ha! A pervasive lack of ability is so very, very poor when found in a purple-edged creature. Beneath it all, Crean feels the same anxieties, fears and calamities shared by the human herd. The poor man needs some kindly assistance. I ask in the most demure manner, from whom might that come?

Now I know you’re a very busy Archangel but could you do me, and him, a wee favour?

I appreciate that getting rid of homosexuality and defending the Holy RCC must use up a lot of your angelic powers, especially when protecting the faithful against wickedness and oul Nick’s snares, but when you’ve got a bit of spare time, could you just pop down for a chat one day, firstly to my back garden, then afterwards to that Concerned Catholic fellow. After I’ve met you and your God given powers have persuaded me to repent my atheism, you can tell him you’ve been to see me, got me to see the light and converted me into a devout Catholic. I’m sure he’ll appreciate that greatly, and will be able to tell other blog readers of your great powers.
Now perhaps I’m asking a lot, so I won’t mind if you need to delegate this to a more junior angel. With you being a gaffer up there you no doubt will have a lot of authority in such minor matters as converting an oul atheist like me.
I appreciate you reading this, and await your angelic intervention with baited (sic) breath.

They (the clergy) dig their own grave with a relentless efficiency – they don’t need no help from anybody they are doing a great job themselves.
Most priests don’t believe in the Devil let alone Satanism and the notion of sacrilege and blasphemy they don’t get – Crean is an Ostrich head in sand, completely clueless and way out of his depth to handle this kind of thing – I hope the US priests is jailed for max 2 years and is laicised ASAP – they should hunt the seminarian down – if shagging on an altar isn’t a criminal offence it blood well should be – pissing on a war memorial is so why not fornicating on an altar used for public worship – arrest him, interview him with a seasoned professional he will squeal like the little piggy he is / as for ordination completely out of the question – if he’s done it once he will do it again. Is anybody listening? No they are not – hear no evil, see no evil do as much evil as you can get away with – isn’t that what they teach them in seminary.

It’s utterly staggering, that the seminarian alleged to have been the co participant with Lomansey in this desecration, is still in place, large as life, sailing merrily along towards diaconate and priesthood.
It beggars belief. There is something very obviously amiss with this individual even from a cursory glance.
You cannot help but wonder are the authorities – seminary and his diocese – afraid of him? Does he know “stuff”?
Are high ranking ecclesiastics compromised with him? Are they afraid to get rid of him because he will squeal the place down with the names of his sexual partners?
Either way, this man has to go, no matter WHO it topples. To ordain this man will be a disaster. Anyone with evidence needs to come forward.
Crean is utterly and entirely USELESS.

I wonder does this little madam have the “dirt” on other important clerics, even her own (arch)bishop, so they dare not “kick her out”?
If this is the case, her archbishop, or bishop, needs to sack this evil seminarian and then, himself, resign immediately, for the good of the church.
I’m sure the resigned and disgraced prelate(s) can cope with some shame, this side of the grave, rather than the flames of Hell, forever, on the other side?
The archbishop(s)/bishop(s), seminary staff, has/have the chance to redeem himself/themselves for the good of the church and save his/their soul(s) from burning in Hell forever.
I’m sure there is some monastery or convent, somewhere, that will facilitate their/his life/ lives of prayer and penance, until death comes to lead them to the Judge.
Archbishop, bishops, high ranking priests in seminary, whoever you are, please resign and take yourself, yourselves, AWAY OFF!!
Because the last few remaining priests in Ireland, who are sincerely trying to do what is right, do not need your wicked antics.
If you’re won’t come clean and repent, then get out to be damned and go to Hell where you belong, you spawn of Satan.

It’s all gone quiet about Boilerhouse Rawhide Dick Purcell of Barebacking fame. Is this what he hoped for, that the whole thing would quieten down and he could go merrily on his way ? That’s in the playbook of caught out clergy, I believe. Say nothing, do nothing, wait until it all goes quiet, and then just carry on. And while we are on such subjects, what is happening with Roreeee, him of the pics on his phone of his private parts sent to an ex-student ? It’s good to be reminded of why these guys shuffled off stage, just so we don’t forget the egregious behaviour of priests who were claiming publicly to be celibate and chaste. Still in London working for the Irish Centre, and no doubt provided with all sorts of goodies by his patron and admirer, + Martin; or is he wandering around Ireland on the quiet at the moment, easing himself back in to ministry ? And, a long shot this one, a blast from the past, but whatever happened with Kieran Conry after his shagging episodes and multiple affairs that had been the pattern of his life since the day he was ordained – and must have been known about by fellow bishops and clergy ? That has all gone quiet, but surely a man of his age would have found it difficult to get a job and support himself, and he wouldn’t really have had savings or family money, so where is he and is he still being supported and provisioned by the Church ? Is he still ministering on the quiet somewhere under some arrangement ? I don’t ask because I want to cause him trouble, but simply out of transparency, since I believe that he will still be within the embrace of the Church and that means we are supporting him. So, I do think we have a right to know where our money is going, and what arrangements have been made. It’s what happens elsewhere. You know the outcome of cases, and you know what has happened to someone whom the organisation believes should be disciplined. All you get with the Church is obfuscation. Do they think we are fools ?

The bishops of England and Wales all knew about Conry – an anomaly for sure given his heterosexual proclivity – I remember him holding hands and walking the grounds of Hinsley Hall with his latest ‘girlfriend’ in toe – he was like a teenager in Upper Sixth showing off that he had a girlfriend etc. Seemed v childish and immature. Same thing on Lourdes pilgrimages – I remember a newly ordained priest called Jude from Westminster doing the same thing – it’s a kind of perverse virtue (or lack of virtue) signalling – they can’t help themselves – they snort the drug of hypocrisy and inhale the sweet oxygen of the double life – but in reality they are kidding no one except themselves – Conry will be well cared for – less a kept woman more a kept man. The problem is that clergy here no evil and say no evil (they may well do plenty of evil) and lay people aren’t militant or disruptive enough – the status quo is too intoxicating.

Like

And all that faux shock horror, indignation and disappointment from clergy and bishops at the time ! Nichols spitting venom. But, they all knew, suspected, had a clue, but didn’t do anything because Conry was deemed an untouchable with golden balls. I knew Conry years ago and he always had that air about him, destined for great things, but always elusive and absent, off doing other things, and popping up just when needed. Originally, we though that he was an angel of mercy because he was supposed to be supporting and looking after family, especially his brother who was dying of HIV/Aids, and perhaps some of that is true. But, it was a pattern that pre-existed that and carried on afterwards – always away, always busy with other things, not really engaged. And yet, he just carried on up the ladder. Until….. I think Conry was rather bemused that people were a bit miffed by his behaviour. I think his one excuse / rationale was that he wasn’t that bad or hypocritical because he generally abstained from talking about sexual morality in his sermons ! So, that’s okay then ! Oh, it does anger me that the clergy and bishops are so indulgent of their own and themselves, but when it comes to taking a pot shot at anyone else who doesn’t fit their strictly defined criteria of ‘good’, then they are happy to be judgemental. Look at the recent ‘intrinsically disordered’ nonsense and the blessing of civil partnerships / same sex partnerships that has just reared its silly head again. Double standards. More clerical privilege and exceptionalism.

I have sympathy that Fr. Lomasney is dead, and it must be dreadful for his friends and family for this dreadful event should be still doing “the rounds”. It is also the case that Fr. Lomasney appeared to labour with very real difficulties. But that was no excuse for his appalling behaviour. And as Bishop Pat rightly points out the other participant is currently, allededly a seminarian. If the seminarian had any decency or integrity he would leave, but if it is established that the seminarian was the second person receiving fellatio from Fr. Lomasney on the altar, he should be, and will be instantly dismissed from the seminary.

If he has been a sexually prolific as we are led to believe then he will have “dirt” on a number of people in the Irish church, so they will be keen to keep the seminarian “in the club” in order to maintain his “silence”.

The Ordinary of the seminarian is in a difficult position if he does not ordain the seminarian then he is tacitly acknowledging the reality of the difficulties surrounding the seminarian. He will have no choice but to dismiss the seminarian, who could do real damage. Imagine the conversation between the seminarian and Pat Buckley. Wow.

If he is dismissed he probably will receive a payoff in order to maintain his silence. If he is ordained then it is only a matter of time before the video of the sex act on the altar will emerge. That will expose the ineptitude of his bishop who does not listen to advice and incompetence of Bishop Crean.

Providentially, if that video exists and it is released, Crean will have no choice but to re-consecrate the altar (if it has not already been done so) and publicly acknowledge this most despicable act occurred.

Ah yes that air about him vibe – I reckon that was and is a Cotton College thing – Conry was at Cotton wasn’t he – a kind of minor public school schtick – Tom Gavin, Pargeter and their protégés all have that air of ‘we’re so so cleverer than the rest of you’ and we belong to an elite club – mind you that book Seminary Boy shed some light on their proclivities and enjoyment of corporal punishment – kinky or what. Conry was corrupted by Bruno Heim (cottaging if I’m not mistaken) and preferential net work that singles out the prettier more handsome boys – the Worlock, Hume and Nichols triumvirate is rooted in that with Derek and Basil vying for their protégés affection and attention – Conry thought he was untouchable and flew close to the sun – he was hoisted on his own poitard etc – mind you juggling three mistresses at once some feat – but it’s an illusion isn’t it – mistresses cost money and who was paying for his pleasures – indeed who pays for any of their pleasures – none only than the pray, obey and pay brigade.

What ?! Cotton College a minor public school ?! Get real. please ! Cotton was a dump, designed to take in the bright-ish kids of the Irish Catholic immigrants, who had been spotted by some leery eyed PP and sent off the Cotton much to the gratitude of the working class Irish mums and dads who thought that their boy was so special and blessed and that suddenly they had made it in the Irish Catholic diaspora ! Did they get a great education there ? No. They were taught by self-taught priest teachers who by virtue of the fact that they were ordained thought that they knew everything and could teach anything. It was a precursor to the lamentable education those who went on to senior seminary would get. The place was an embarrassment and anyone who thinks they are somebody because of it should think again. By the way, the arch paedophile / ephebophile Bede Walsh’s father taught at Cotton, I believe. Bede probably went there himself. All those names you mentioned – Worlock, Hume. Heim, and perhaps even Nichols, were all part of that pretty boy, golden balls boy set up, part of the magic circle that ensured that if they played the game correctly they would go places. Conry was part of that too. As were so many of the Westminster Archbishop’s personal chaplain/secretary set up. Where are they all now ? Doing nicely, thank you ! I’m sure even Conry is doing okay, courtesy of that network, wherever he is.

I have a problem with young men who are almost at the point of being ordained – not having the moral fibre to say no – especially on an issue like this.

Like

“Blad” at 1:38pm, ever hear of male rape? A physically stronger man overpowering a younger man not as physically strong and forcibly sexually assaulting him?

A young seminarian could very easily be preyed upon by a priest. There is a vast imbalance of power. Such cases have been successfully prosecuted criminally.

Also, you clearly know very little of the dynamics of sexual assault and how victims react and cope.

Were you watching the three part Football’s Darkest Secret on the BBC over the last few nights? Boys in their early and late teens and young men described how they “froze” and were unable to move when being sexually assaulted.

Their bodies wouldn’t react such was the shock and horror at what was happening. This is a very well known victim response to the trauma and shock of abuse.

Young footballers who lived for the sport and wanted to make a career in it were sexually abused and raped by men who held their destiny and future in their hands. They were told by these coaches that, if they resist or tell anyone, their careers are finished before they start.

Young seminarians are in similar positions with priests who have power and-or authority over them. Like the young footballers, young seminarians will feel powerless, that they will not be believed, that they will be punished and thrown out of seminary.

Victims often feel that they are to blame for what happened to them and ignorant attitudes like yours compound their suffering. Educate yourself and learn some compassion.

When you listen to those words of excoriation by Enda Kenny (not a man I greatly admire) of the Holy See — one would have hoped that the Holy See would have learnt its lesson and appointed a man of sound judgement to the pastoral governance of the diocese of Cloyne. Sadly, they did not do so in the person of Bishop William Crean. As it has been pointed out he was the third choice for the diocese because nobody with any modicum of sense would have accepted that appointment. At the time, if the Holy See had been prudent it would have suppressed the diocese and divided its canonical territory between Cork and Ross with some parishes in the east of the diocese being incorporated into the Diocese of Waterford and Lismore.
Of course, neither of these dioceses are led by men of outstanding pastoral leadership. The failure of Bishop Alphonsus to publicly prohibit Fr. Richard Purcell (the Abbot of Mount Melleray Abbey) by a Decree to minister in the Diocese of Waterford and Lismore is further evidence of the pusillanimous leadership of the Irish bishops.
The six dioceses that roughly encompass the province of Munster should be amalgamated into two dioceses and/or even one larger diocese. There are too many bishops in Ireland. Localism has lead to parochialism, and that this time we need leadership not the cowardice we see in Cloyne.

Ha ha ha the reckoning is coming when every diocese will have to cough up massive and hopefully unlimited amounts of compensation to the ten of thousands of sexual abuse victims – selling the family silver, liquidising assets and redundancies and cut backs to meet their legal and fiscal responsibilities is the stark and dire future they face.
The tiresome and increasingly obsequious apologies will have to be reflected in generous and unconditional payments – it will hurt like hell but is nowhere near the hurt and despair their brother and sister clerics meted out to innocent victims – stealing a child’s or young persons sexual innocence comes with a price. The Newfoundland experience of resisting, obfuscation and downright refusal to pay the price save for the intervention of the Canadian legal system will be repeated all over the world – kick and scream they will but pay out they must and will.
The clergy love to bang on about the family and family values when in fact they are the enemy of the family and a real and present danger to the sexual integrity and well being of our children.

I am struck by the comment at 1:27pm regarding Cotton and its influence upon several generations of Birmingham priests – including Kieron Conry. John Cornwell’s wonderful memoir of the place is by no means unsympathetic, but nevertheless highlights the dangers and pitfalls. I used to read the obits in the Birmingham Year Book, often composed by the late Canon Tony Piercy – himself a Cotton legend – and was struck by the intense old boys’ club ambience of the place. It was VERY inward looking with much to be proud of viz the “galactic splendour” of the place in one old fart’s obit. Downside or Ampleforth, it never was, though there are two more places whose reputations have crashed.

Seminarians have no right of appeal or recourse to an employment tribunal should they find themselves thrown out of seminary after complaining about Uncle Ted and his nocturnal habits.

Cotton was awash with latent and not so latent homosexuality reminiscent of the classic English public school – it was also a junior seminary – a more, unrealistic and unsustainable idea if ever there was one – imagine a prepubescent boy of 11 is put forward for the priesthood – how could they not have a sense of their own sel-importance and preferment – how could there not be an elitist culture – it was built into its DNA – but where is Cotton now? It’s an old Catholic ruin wasting away in the Staffordshire Moorlands – alongside many an old ruins in the Staffordshire Moorlands.
