SILVERSTREAM UPDATE.

This blog, its authors and its readers have not forgotten about Silverstream and its scandals.

Kirby

Last we heard was that Prior Kirby was back as an ordinary monk and one of the community, Elijah, was made prior, even though he is not a priest.

Sources tell us that Kirby’s health has become more fragile.

THE GARDA:

Sources tell us that the Irish police, the Garda, have more or less finished their investigation of Silverstream’s finances.

We are led to believe that they have recommended prosecutions.

SEMINARIANS AT RISK?

Another source has revealed to us that at least one seminarian who went on retreat there in the past experienced secual hartassment.

THE WHISTLEBLOWER:

The brave whistleblower has not returned to the monastery and it is highly unlikely he will.

He has been the subject of a ludicrous and vicious whispering campaign and outlandish accusations.

However, he has been working closely with the Garda and is a highly truthful and reliable witness.

I am alerting readers to the likelihood of a major scandal at Silverstream as this year progresses.

Meanwhile, Silverstream has the full support of the incumbent of Meath – Tom “The Mack” Deenihan.

Based on the photo of the good bishop Tom could I respectfully suggest a visit to a tailor for some nice made to measure.
The problem with some of these “off the peg” trendy cut trousers is that on the older wearer they give the appearance that the wearer has shit himself several times and not taken them off as yet.
Not good!

Disappointed you couldn’t hold the gossip for one day to respect Prince Phillip.
Our country is in mourning and all you feel you can do is attack the Irish!
Remember, you live in Britain!

That this comment gives no indication as to whom it is addressed; what country is being referred to; who is “attacking the Irish” infers limitations of the comment writer, …….at 1:03 am on a Sat morning. Were limitations affected and effected by the bottle?

@4.28

No. As mentioned the other day I stick to the short sleeve clerical shirts as they are easier to iron.

I do however believe that a cleric should wear fitting attire. It is important that when you are in the community that the people are not put off by the attire, demeaner or deportment of the local priest. Christ is the example for all young men who might be inspired to be a priest, but the local priest or bishop appearing as a clown is not an image that helps vocations. When people see priests it is helpful that they are not inspired to think “look at that bunch of weirdos”.

When one lives on a low income and is committed to a life of sympathetic abstinence clothes become functional rather than a show of high status. You see, you have misunderstood the priestly calling. Your interpretation is based on an appearance rather than the reality of the Bishop who is doing something that sets him apart from the snares of consumption and image-making. He sets an example we might well follow, rendering your cynical flotsam to dust.

Is the priest on the right Fr Richard Hurley VG, who had the sinecure in the Irish College, Paris before Hugh “cowboy” Connolly got it?

Like

No, that’s his secretary Joe Campbell.
Declan Hurley was replaced by Dwayne Gavin who was replaced by Hugh Connolly.

I remember in the Nineties how new religious foundations such as this one were meant to revitalise consecrated life in the RCC, when it became obvious that the established religious orders had ducked the issue of reform -and had opted to make their lifestyles more secular and comfortable instead. Of course, a lot of these new attempts at religious life subsequently proved to have their founders addicted to psychological and sexual abuse, so the optimism has faded. However, one thing that the opponents of the RCC hate it for, that is the monolithic authoritarianism, has meant that the RCC can be effective in doing something about these poisonous new growths when it finally decides to do so. I’ve accumulated a lot of knowledge about “new age”, “new world” and “new religion” attempts at communal living since the Sixties, and the scale and types of abuse perpetrated in them are absolutely amazing. The point I’m making, is that those suffering abuse in “liberal”, “free-spirit” communes have nobody in higher authority to turn to apart from secular law enforcement. Thank God that the RCC has an authoritarian structure.

Oh Dear, Tom doesn’t look healthy at all in that photo. Any man who cannot pull up his trousers due to his belly needs a good wife!!! And a better fitting trousers.
If you think Tom will give any statement that implies wrongdoing by a cleric than you’d be delusional. He sits in Meath with one eye on Armagh and the other on Dublin. Career, career, career.

He’s delusional if he thinks he has a chance of getting either. I wasn’t always a fan of +Dermot but he’s a lot more strategic, political and financially clued up.

+ Pat, I admire the way that you are able to bring to the light so many irregularities, oddities, misdoings, and even alleged criminal behaviour that appears to go on amongst our bishops, priests and monks and in our churches, parishes and monasteries. It is important that there is a voice like yours that will fearlessly call these things out. One of the things I notice is that you never seem to get sued, which is a real indication to me that you are telling the truth and the facts, and they know it and know that if they did take you on they would find themselves being shown to be guilty of what you allege, and probably having to perjure themselves in order to deny it. The usual response from these people in the spotlight is to go to ground and to hope that the whole thing will eventually go away. I guess that many of them will be checking this blog each day just to see if they are still being mentioned, and breath a sigh of relief when they appear to have fallen off the stage. I think it’s important, as you are doing today, to refresh the memory and to keep them in the spotlight every now and again, just to keep them on their toes ! Life should not be too comfortable for those who lie, deceive, coverup, abuse, misbehave, live parallel and duplicitous lives, and who think that they are exempt from any norms of behaviour because they are clerics. So, please do keep an eye for us on the likes of Silverstream, Roreeee, Puck, Gaynooth, Rawhide Purcell and the myriad of other characters who deserve to be brought to our attention. It is one of the only ways of bursting their clerically entitled and privileged bubble in which, up until now, they have been able to act with impunity.
Of course, I would be the first to encourage you to desist in any case where the individual is honest and open and recognises his misbehaviour and does something about it, which in my book really means moving away from the clerical state and ministry and having the balls to go out in to the world and to find a new way of being. I say this because, from what I have seen, so many of these misbehaviours have to do with sexuality and sexual activity, and I am of the view that once they have shown that they are disinclined to keep to their vow of celibacy and chastity, it is well night impossible for them to do so in the future. Yes, they may do so for a while, but gradually they edge back to that kind of behaviour, only just trying to be more careful and not get caught. Until they get caught out again ! So, best to recognise this and move on. That would be more honest and I would be the first to admire their integrity if they did that. Sorry, tough, I know, but sometimes the tough approach is the best and most loving approach for all.

How did this place get approved in the first place ? Was there any on due diligence or discernment process on the founder or on objective of its aims and what it hopes to achieve etc etc?
Suspect money was the aim, although I could be wrong. I have been wrong previously.
Is there any religious organisation similar to to silverstream set up in Ireland that we may missed it?
One thing that struck me was very few irish in silverstream as I gathered just one or two. My question, was the whistle-blower Irish?
This blog is small beer compared to church militant cos church militant is very aggressive and opens can of worms such as SSpx abuses in Kansas. Its not limited to the new mass but extraordinary form as well.

Now Now do not speak idol of the “Holy” SSPX.
Pope Benedict should be ashamed at trying to open the door for their return to the True Faith.
the New curia will help pope Francis sort it all out he has already said their is only ONE Church and pope Emeritus Benedict has said there is only one Pope and he is called Francis.
however they are getting the message as they are starting to have Pope Francis pictures on the walls of their priories.

As long as Pope Francis’ critics are as poorly educated as you are, there’s no chance of unseating him.
You are not a Roman Catholic if you don’t recognize the current papal incumbent. When you get to Big School all will be well.

The SSPX is outside the Roman Catholic Church and it shows what some of it’s members think of Pope Francis @ 5.10
Thankfully their Leadership Team and their self ordained Bishops think differently and are trying for the CDF and Pope Francis to obtain something like The Personal Ordinariate of Our Lady of Walsingham. (ex Anglican’s that Pope emeritus Benedict allowed in)
However they will need to wait till Pope Francis makes the new appointments to the Curia.
God must be on SSPX side as Cardinal Sarah has retired so it may make it easier for them.
Time will tell however you can be guaranteed that Pope Francis will not bow do to them.
There is only one Roman catholic Church under the Supreme Pontiff Pope francis.

I just checked my information from Father Sebastian Wall who assures me that the photographs of His Holiness is correct and it each priory or chapel and they also have the Ordinary’s of the appropriate dioceses picture as they respect the Office of these Holy Men.
father said it must be your unchristian view of Pope Francis or his Bishops.
However I have to inform you of the changes from tomorrow.
Mass: £14 (a £4 increase)
Novena of Masses: £140
Gregorian of Masses: £600
Weddings £150

the nearest priory.

The other example of a monastery which has distanced itself from its eccentric founder is Prinknash (and its daughter houses Pluscarden and Farnborough).
Dom Aelred Carlyle had a HUGE bedroom in the Abbot’s lodgings and when asked why he had had it built so big, replied that it was so the whole community could kneel around his deathbed.
That said Farnborough is following in his footsteps with another Abbot Extraordinary.

Here’s an update on Ampleforth. In summary, the monks own the school buildings and land on which they sit, making separation of abbey and school difficult; there are only two monk teachers now and seven monk chaplains in the school houses; unless they are on the school staff, monks are not allowed into the school unaccompanied; if the school loses its appeal against the Government decision to ban pupil enrollment the school is unviable, causing worries to employees and even affecting house prices locally.

The question of who owns the school buildings is a smoke screen – perfectly simple to make the school a separate legal entity and charge it a peppercorn rent for the buildings.
The real story is how it won’t be financially viable if there isn’t a new intake. I am afraid my sympathy is with local people who are dependent on it for work and such as the groundsman who topped himself. The monastic community should have noticed that private education as a monastic industry has been dying for 30+ years.
Do you know where the monastery’s income actually comes from?

The Catholic state schools in the UK are funded by taxpayers but the land and property is owned by the Church. This arrangement only makes sense while there is still an official religion, as soon as the C of E is inevitably disestablished they will have to make serious changes.

Pat, did you ever meet the late Duke, or any other members of the Royal Family? One of the papers reported today that 22% of the UK population has met a royal or at least seen one in real life.
I’ve seen two popes (JPII & BXVI) and spoken to BXVI. Of course I have no desire to see His Humbleness.

12.58. Why would it matter if Pat met the late Duke. Pat has a much greater claim to fame. Pat personally knew the Most Reverend ( and later His Eminence) Cahal Brendan Daly, who when he spoke was the voice of Christ. Meeting or knowing such a person trumps all others.

I was a communion priest at the installation Mass for Pope Benedict and was assigned to distribute Holy Communion to signatories on the left had side of the altar facing St Peter’s square. I approached the Duke who was standing and gave him a blessing, he then sat down, and a Catholic dignitary behind him in a white dress extended her hands over his head to receive communion – which seemed a little unseemly. I remember how small and slight he was. I had always imagined he was quite tall. I was also surprised at the size of Burlusconi’s ears which had not been helped by his countless facelifts.
