KILLALOE “PUBLIC MASTURBATION PRIEST” JERRY CLEARY HITS SUNDAY WORLD TODAY.

The Kialloe PP Jerry Carey was caught by the Garda masturbating in his car in Galway 8 months ago.

It only came to court in March past.

The church took no action against him until the story appeared in this blog on March 3rd.

Was he hoping to get away with it?

He went to court as MISTER CAREY OF TIPPERARRY.

His bishop, Monahan was hoping it would die a death too.

Monahan

The story runs in todays Sunday World – Republic edition.

This was the conversation on RTE the other day.

https://www.rte.ie/radio/utils/share/radio1/21940485

ANOTHER CASE

Monahan is currently dealing with another priest sex case – that of Father Ger Fitzgerald, who took n a parishioner to bed.

It seems that Kilaloe priests have a bigger problem with keeping their willie in their pants

Cloughleigh, and yes he is. Why wouldn’t he be? He believes he’s done nothing wrong and his ‘fan club’ are 100% behind him. Anyone who criticises him is frowned upon. ‘Hes a good man’ they cry!!! That may be, but he is not a good priest.

And he did PENETRATE a parishioner who was vulnerable at the time.

Pat, I was disappointed to hear yesterday that you are more a republican than a monarchist. Saying that, I was once learning toward republicanism, but I see the value, the history and tradition of having a monarchy. My experience of a republic is Ireland and just look how that is going !!!! Give me an OINTED King/Queen anyway.

I was delighted to see the black vestments at the Windsor service yesterday. Tablet-reading nominal Catholics get the vapours at the idea that they might be used at Requiem Masses.
I also saw photos of the new private chapel at Windsor. Ad orientam altar and a Communion rail. Who’d have though it?

Hi Rose, is it is perfectly common for those whose countries which have been forcibly taken over and controlled by any hostile entities to have at the very least residual reservations about those entities — whether they were, or still are, republican or morarchical systems is here or there in my opinion
(Anecdotally: do the current regimes, namely that of “new” Labour or Thatcherite Conservativism muster up any good or bad feelings or memories for any readers of this blog, or indeed further abroad? 🙄 ), and possibly irrelevant on some levels – hence why people can have mixed emotions…).
The British establishment, the government that is, the political leaders and those who hold various offices in politics or have authority (not the Queen per se, I admire her — but I was not a fan of Mrs Thatcher – and nor was the Queen, remember… All things in fairness and perspective, please…) are the ones who make the decisions which effect our country and those decisions can have negative, sadly seldom good, outcomes both for “us” including for others’ and their countries.
Incidentally, often countries which get the bad “deal” are the ones which are, or were, still “catching” up in terms of political and economical growth — yet their lands are rich with silk and other “precious” textiles and spices; some countries even rich with other seemingly unending and “interchangeable” commodities such as crude oil and any other “commodities” which can be exploited by abuse of power and breaches of international treaties and laws.
Then there are diamonds: “Blood” diamonds… Diamonds are forever because of their distinctive “qualities”, didn’t you know? The way they shimmer and shine when held up to the light — that is to say nothing for the women, children and men who are essentially slave-laboured into the sifting, day-in and day-out: year-after-year, yet these women, children and men are never given the opportunity to shine to their full potential as human beings. Their human rights tossed to the wind like chaff which once surrounded the wheat; its job now done.
Moving forward…
However, for those of us who believe in fairness and equality for all, there is always hope!
For Christians there is hope, too, and Scripture which is often a great guide and comfort…
“The last will be first, the first will be last…”
Matthew 20:16
– – – –
Going back to hostile entities…
There can for many remain relatively recent past-issues for which there are still “open” wounds; wounds need attention in order to heal, do they not? Rubbing salt into any wound is never a good idea…
…that which is in the present cannot yet be “confined”, for want of a better word, to the history books…
Great Britain and Northern Ireland (not forgetting the Falkland islands and its two terratorial dependencies): Margaret Thatcher was not very popular, at all, both in England, Ireland, Scotland and further abroad!
Then there was the Communist state who gave Mrs Thatcher the name Zheleznaya Ledi – The iron Lady.
This attribute at first was an insult; but it quickly became a term of endearment to Margaret by Communists towords the end of the Cold War era in Russia (USSR untill 1991).
The Communists loved her ‘The Lady is not for turning’ speech and they admired the way she handled – or “man” handled – heads of state from around the world, not forgetting her own ministers and chief whip!
(Most of whom gave Margaret a big old “push” out the door in the end…).
Incidentally, even Rome rejects Communism; and those who claim to adhere to Roman Canon Law do not recognise the rights of anybody outside of the clerical state.
Oppressive regimes are SO YESTERYEAR, wouldn’t you agree, Rose? x

What’s fintan doing about Father Ger Fitzgerald? Surely the people in his parish are disgusted by this man’s behaviour

Like

The People of the parish are behind Father Ger as they have not been told the truth yet but that should come.
Father Ger knows he is living a lie but in so much self denial.
How Ger can be a hypocrite is shocking and disgusting.

The Bishop will end up suspending him then take it through the canonical route.

Like

Quite the contrary. Anyone who is disgusted keeps quiet for fear of retribution. Its a disgrace the way this situation has been handled. The party line seems to be denial of sexual intercourse. As for the texts? Sure hes only human. So Ger carries on ministering, but only it seems, to those who support him. The lady who made the accusations, albeit with vindictive motives, has been scandalised and completely shamed by many. But let’s all call a spade a spade, if the Priest had behaved in a manner befitting his position, there wouldn’t have been any accusations. So many people have said its wrong that Priests can’t marry. I don’t disagree, but there are rules and they are fully aware of the rules so if these rules don’t appeal, than find another club to join. Priests having their cake and eating it is getting very tiresome indeed. There again many think the only bad thing Ger did was get caught. From reading this blog thats the narritive, they can and do whatever the f*ck they like, just dont get caught.

I listened to the radio broadcast. What surprised me is that no one mentioned that The Church tortured us for generations telling us that masturbation was a sin. When I was at school in the 70’s it was as if masturbation was the only Sin.
It took me a while to free myself from the Catholic guilt of this and while I have moved on The Church that Fr Gerry represents hasn’t moved on and still teaches the same nonsense.
Fr Gerry was foolish in the extreme but I think it’s only natural that he is called out on his act and pilloried for it if only to throw a spotlight the hypocrisy.
And he should count himself lucky because if there had need a child present with whoever discovered him he’d be facing gaol time.

Oh well, it will be off to Canada or the USA when possible for Carey for some Humpty Dumpty putting back together at one of those expensive centres for errant clergy. All paid for by us. Unless, of course, he and the bishop just come to the sensible and logical conclusion that he is not fit for ministry, and that he needs to give up and move on with this life, and make his own way in the world. Otherwise, it will be a continual revolving door with him being ‘renewed’, coming back, getting in to trouble again at some stage, and still having whatever underlying psyco-sexual malaise and dysfunction that has caused the present problem. I’m in favour of redemption and change, but we have to be reaiistic about it. Whatever Carey suffers from is probably so deeply rooted, and reinforced by the clerical culture and lifestyle that he’s been trained and lived in, that removing himself from that environment is probably the only way of ensuring that he lives some kind of reasonable and decent life. That, and the law encouraging him not to get caught again, otherwise he might end up in prison ! The same thinking applies to Ger. His behaviour comes from some deep well of selfish need and he should just recognise this as being incompatible with the clerical life as presently understood, at least officially. He, too, needs to move on. I’m tired at having to be around ‘wounded’ clergy who are given exceptional treatment just because they are priests, when anywhere else they would be out on their ear. Tough, I know, but enough is enough. If you dip your wick where it should not be, if you behave in a way that is inconsistent with your public calling, if you behave unprofessionally and transgress all kinds of boundaries, then expect to put up with the consequences, and in these cases the consequence is clearly that these men are not fit for priestly ministry. That is the realistic and – yes, compassionate – response, both to the individuals concerned and for their futures, as well as to us the faithful. Lugs, are you listening….?!

Such self righteous nonsense. That is, until similar happens to you.
Double standards here. We live in a hypersexualised society. You expect one subsection of society, clergy, to be immune from a central strand of that society today which is in our face and at our fingertips every day of the week.
It would be interesting to have your sexual history analyses here. Probably leaving both these gentlemen in the shade. It was ever thus.

Like

@ 11:33 – No, I have never masturbated in a car in a public car park like Carey; neither do I have sexual intercourse with women other than my wife, even though I am not bound by a vow of celibacy like this Ger priest. I really don’t think I am asking or expecting too much to think that neither of these behaviours is what I should expect from priests, and that if they do engage in such behaviour then the same standards and consequences would be applied to them as would be applied to me in my work place and profession. In the case of Ger, if I was having sexual interaction with a woman with whom I had some kind of professional or pastoral connection, that would be an infringement of my professional standards and I could expect to be called to account, disciplined and even barred from my profession. In the case of Carey, having a criminal conviction for such behaviour would certainly see me out of my job. So, what is so different about these clergy ? Please, do enlighten us….! Except that they are priests and presume to have a special free pass from the normal requirements of professional behaviour ?

Very disappointed that Killaloe Dioceses has featured again on the blog especially when we all know that the Bishop is taking both cases through a canonical procedure. The blog today will likely change the outcome as to the cases with Bishop Fintan thinking the his dioceses has been attacked.

The Church will look at this today as victimisation of their clergy.

I cannot be alone in finding these recurring references to Father Littleton inappropriate and distasteful in a blog devoted to the sins of the Fathers. His style may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but he has done nothing wrong and is not in the slightest implicated in any scandal. These can only be fishing trips in the hope that one day he’ll be spotted chatting up the barmaid of the Dog and Duck, and then finally we’ll have something on him. There must be bigger fish to fry in the London dioceses, such as whatever the story is behind Father James McKay’s departure from St Katherine’s Dock.

Oh, I doubt if he’d be chatting up the barmaid at the Dog and Duck, dearie ! Anyhow, where is he going ? I think the young man needs to be under firm direction wherever he goes. His silly traddy antics and his champagne quaffing pictures, as well as his YouTube videos indicate an immature young priest who needs some direction and formation. As of now, your motivation is simply to demonize this priest, his Bishop and the Catholic Church. By all means, call out the sin, wrong doing and abuse where and when appropriate, but is there justification for the onslaught? I cannot fathom the relentless pursuit of this priest, as much as I realise his foolishness and stupidity and unawareness of the public place he was in. That was very silly and reckless of him. Sadly, he will pay a huge personal price for his actions. I am glad I have very kind, supportive friends, a good family and very human colleagues who treat and would treat me kindly in any challenge in my life. I therefore try to approach with mercy those who fail and who are humiliated, while being able to condemn the sin or wrong doing. It would need to go through the court for this accusation of yours.

The church advocates an ideal of intimacy within marriage but will baptise children born outside of marriage and bless marriages of couples who have children. It’s an acceptance by the church that intimacy can happen outside of marriage.

It has been reported in some quarters that a notable percentage of clergy are striving to be celebate. Two consenting couples is not a crime. An act of self gratification is not a crime. Public self gratification is a mistake and the court ruling was made. They shouldn’t be crucified any further.

There should be understanding and compassion. Clergy are human. Humans fall a first time. Humans fall a second time. Humans fall a third time. People also learn from mistakes and ought to be respectfully given that opportunity to do so.

The best apology is changed behaviour.

Like

Seamus: Public self gratification is a crime and a sexual offence and certainly is not a mistake punishable by law. Fr Carey rightly received a suspended sentence. Masturbation is normal in private, very sick people with sexual issues perform in public. It’s neither a mistake nor silly as the girl on Joe Duffy claims.

Seamus here is a real challenge for you listen to the broadcast on RTE and listen to the women traumatised 20,3040 years on from males pleasuring themselves in Public.
Go to the Archdioceses of Saint Andrews and Edinburgh and speak to clergy traumatised still eight years on because of KOB.
Carey and Ger should resign and that would be story completed.
Or Fintan should do his job and sack them.
Fintan is very weak and really should look at himself he is allowing Ger Fitzgerald to continue to split an Oratory.

When there is a high challenge in rugby, a referee will assess are there mitigating circumstances to not give a red card. Someone who hasn’t hurt anyone only themselves for the publicity caused, should be allowed to dust themselves down, get up and live in peace. The best apology is changed behaviour. People who fall, especially in cases where they have not hurt someone else, should be allowed to live in peace without being crucified. Let him who is without sin cast the first stone. People should be given a second chance depending on the circumstances. If someone commits an act that is harmful to another, one’s position would be untenable in my humble opinion.
The judge accepted that someone was in his own car, but added that he could clearly be seen, as someone reported him to the police. Being in the car is a mitigating factor. Just like a referee would consider mitigating factors before deciding whether or not to give a rugby player a red card for a high tackle.
An act that is offensive but was not harmful to another has a low severity of risk or potential risk. One should be allowed space to reflect on it, engage in a therapeutic course of assessment and counselling. One should not be unfairly crucified. Let him who is without sin cast the first stone. May we all live in peace.
