THE NEW COVER UP OF PRIEST ABUSE IN IRELAND.

APPARENTLY THE ONLY PRIESTLY SEXUAL MISBEHAVIOUR AN IRISH BISHOP WILL MOVE AGAINST YOU ON THESE DAYS IS WITH A MINOR!

That seems to be because sex with a minor is criminal as well as immoral.

Having sex with a vulnerable lady parishioner is no longer a “no no” if you judge it by Fintan Monahan’s failure to discipline Ger “One Bang” Fitzgerald?

Going to a gay sauna and having sex with priests and men is not a problem either even if you are an abbot with a Solemn Vow of Chastity – as Richard “Rawhide” Purcell and the CISTERCIANS OF THE STRICT OBSERVANCE shows.

Purcell

I’d hate to see what less strict guys get up to😄

Kirby

Grooming younger monks in a monastery, coming on to them and having thousands of Euros in a drawer is no problem either according to Kitty Kirby of Silverstream and his superior Tom “Mac the Knife” Deenihan.

Deenihan

OTHER THINGS NOW ALLOWED BY THE IRISH CATHOLIC BISHOPS:

1. Sexually active seminarians.

2. Seminarians acting as clerical rent boys to senior clergy.

3. The taking of Class A drugs and poppers by seminarians and priests.

4. The ordinations of unsuitable men to the diaconate and priesthood.

IN FAIRNESS TO DIARMUID MARTIN

In fairness, when Diarmuid Martin found out that particular people were unsuitable for the priesthood, he acted quickly and offloaded them.

IRISH PRIESTHOOD AND EPISCOPATE IN TOTAL DISGRACE.

We have now arrived at a point where the whole Irish episcopate and priesthood is totally disgraced.

They are all morally corrupt and have absolutely no moral authority left.

The Roman Catholic church in Ireland is now a byword for cover-up, lies, corruption etc.

A question about Dermo btw (potentially unconnected with above) – where exactly did he “offload” those elements TO?

Like

Ooohhh, I bet the Wankersh seminarians will be rubbing their hands with glee at the prospect of moving to Alice Hall, so central for all the excitements and extra-curricular activities of London. No doubt the Alice Hall boys will show them the ropes, and help them find their way around the city’s amenities. By the time the W guys are there, all the Covid restrictions should have been removed, and all the saunas, bars, dark rooms etc will be open for business. Nothing like a bit of sweaty man on man action after a hard day studying theology and before compline. Well, I mean if Rawhide Purcell can do it, why shouldn’t the boys in training ?

The Church does not regard people as elements and what a shocking statement.
however they have went on their own way now one is a very successful chaplian in a large hospital.
But they are all Gods children and Brothers of the Christian community.
What element are you XXXX as you are certainly not Catholic.

Like

Just asking for a summary, yes the good chaplain thank you for pointing this out, it’s just that I couldn’t trace who had come from where, seeing as the topic was “offloading”. I know the real Church doesn’t regard us as elements. Indeed we wouldn’t have had to worry for any of them if their seniors had exerted more balanced guidance earlier.

We know some went to seminaries where youngish men of my acquaintance went to, and that there are also a separate number of transfers from outside Dublin. Most English bishops are sending students to seminaries in good heart hoping the milieu has been kept wholesome. Did Dublin have a role in decisions at Maynooth through trustees, and under which AB was that – Doc M or earlier? I know we’ve been told, but in fragments.

Some of those we haven’t heard of. I wasn’t eliciting that level of detail on anyone that hasn’t caused problems in England (and we also note some have stopped). Normally when people have been talked into going to seminary to prop up falling numbers, and some ongoingly discern that they aren’t really heading to clergydom, fine, I wouldn’t have thought “offloaded” was the term. Such people deserve all the more anonymity than the others. Can’t you interpret Pat’s style? I’m not eliciting rumours or anything that is genuinely closed. The info. here was about people who weren’t being dealt with, but lines of authority weren’t always systematically presented. That’s all.

Pat I have spoken to Tom Ryan and the situation regarding Ger and Michael Collins has become critical. At present all private inpatient facilities for psychology care in Ireland and the UK are shut due to the pandemic. Fintan has no where to isolate them.

Father Tom Ryan may have spoken to you however he would have just said the matter are under investigation.
Bishop Fintan has places all over Ireland or the UK to send anyone who needs psychological but Father Ger does not need any trament he just needs to resign and get on with the single to married life.
father Carey is appealing the Bishops decision and he maybe offered councilling however I would think the dioceses would not want to pay for that and again he needs to accept the decision and go back to civy life.

A lapse in a vow can be forgiven. The Pope has written about this. Bishop Pat’s Killaloe friend wrote very well on this topic on Sunday. His advice for the priest is correct. He needs to take a step back for 3 to 6 months to reflect on his position and future direction. The bishop also has to act.

Regards an abbot grooming monks, HR advice for companies in Ireland: Clear rules should be devised for two employees who wish to engage in a mutual relationship. To ensure that your company avoids any hints of sexual harassment it is essential to put clear and concise guidelines in place (employers in Ireland are actually obliged to have policies and procedures on bullying and harassment in place).

It might be a good idea to have a rule that restricts employees from having a relationship with a superior in their own department, for instance, stressing that the rule is the same for all and that its function is to protect employees against sexual harassment and favouritism.

Restricting certain behaviour is absolutely paramount as inappropriate behaviour, such as public displays of affection, in the workplace is not acceptable and can compromise the internal culture of the company. Implementing strict rules that leave no room for ambiguity is advisable.

The main problem was that rcc can’t be regulated from the outside. They are law unto themselves. For instance, Catholic Church collections on every Sunday Mass came from our pockets BUT we can’t regulate them. Rcc can’t have both ways. If we could or want to change rcc or regulate thrm from outside.

The only way that is to withold monies from our pockets in order to change rcc. Jesus christ never charge anybody else in the bible for his services as he gave his services fully and freely as opposed to rcc.

The Catholic Church and even Bishop Pat’s Oratorian Society is regulated and very regular by the Charities Commission and Revenue.
Every Penny or Euro is counted for.

The Church like everyone else is regulated just now with Covid restrictions and follows the same laws as everyone else so it must be a long time since you were involved in a parish as you would recieve the accounts and dioceses publish them and even on web sites.

I think your observation, +| Pat, is spot on. The Catholic Church has distilled down to the bare essentials what it now considers to be actionable, and that is pretty much sexual abuse of a child. It’s only done that because it has been forced to do so by secular laws and authorities. Otherwise, I have no doubt that they would still be engaged in industrial scale denial and coverup. My own view is that the time has come for churches and religious bodies to be overseen by objective, independent and secular authority. This is already the case in some respects in so far as the Charity Commission / Commissioners oversee many of the financial aspects of a church’s life, in that the vast majority of money that goes in and goes out is deemed as of charitable status. I think the day will come when secular authorities will oversee how the churches manage their actions and staff, particularly the clergy, whom we have seen are riddled with dysfunctional, unprofessional and often criminal behaviour. It says a huge amount that the church in Ireland in the last year or so has had a masturbating priest, an adulterous and abusive parish priest, an abbot who engages in anonymous unsafe sex. another abbot who is coercive and manipulative of younger monks under his authority….the list could go on….and that little or nothing has been done to address these behaviours, except perhaps by the police and courts in the case of the wanking priest. The bishops, priests and the institution of the church have shown that they are incapable of managing their own affairs, in part because they don’t want to, because they don’t know how to, they haven’t the skills to do so, because it suits their purposes not to. That’s not good enough.

Bishop Pat a sweeping statement but you know it is not accurate as however I do agree with the two named Bishops very slow to act and quite embarrassing.

Ireland has 26 dioceses at present so 2 Bishops like snails a few others shocking and 3 vacant Dioceses also two pending retirement.

Some talanted Bishops would have these situations closed down quicker when you look at Diarmuid Martins past chancellor Fintan Gavin a talanted and well loved Bishop, Denis Nulty, Brendan Leahy, Paul Dempster and Martin Hayes all very talanted.

There is no excuse for Tom Deeniham or Fintan Monahan however I would like to think it is canon law that is holding them back but they should have suspended all concerned and could have reistated them if they were innocent.

I would like to think as well canon law is the delay however that is not the case it is weak Bishops as they should have been suspended weeks ago.

Also Fintan Monahan will not confirm that Gerry Carey has been suspended while he apeals Fintans decision for a canonacal trial but he has to go Carey would not pass safeguarding with a criminal sexual conviction.

None of this would have happened if the offences had come to light in the Archdiocese of Glasgow (and other Scottish dioceses). There is a much firmer yet kindly approach to misdemeanours by priests. Action is taken quickly and made public. Altogether a superior approach that Ireland should note and follow.

Scottish Dioceses are years ahead of Ireland.
Most Dioceses in ireland have the situations for safeguarding as for minors but this is moving in the correct direction to children and vulnarable adults some dioceses have adopted it just now.
It costs a fortune to make clergy c/o but it is worth the risk suspend and do the inquiry then it is fair play to everyone.
England and Wales is fastly catching up with Scotland but ireland is so far behind.
the big problem is Bishops frightened to act in Ireland and yet it is all there in canon law and all changes Pope Francis makes.
Irish Bishops have to wake up the Good clegry and the laity will not put up with it now.

As I sit here reflecting back to the times, not so far gone, when I dealt with all kinds of personnel issues that required me to make decisions about the way forward, concerning so many different cases and different scenarios; I would reach for my company’s policy on personnel matters, and that would guide as to what course of action I should take, and give me a certain personal decision and leeway – but only up to a certain point. The policies were clear and there was no freedom to ignore them completely. I simply do not understand why any diocese or bishop is not guided a what should be a long standing diocesan policy on what to do in pretty much every circumstance. Or, is it all done on the whim of the bishop ? I suspect so. That is why we see the chaos we see, why we see clerics getting up to all sorts of things that in any other walk of life or work would see them out the door. The Church needs to get its act together, dear bishops, pronto-like !

You know very well the church has procedures to follow and it is called Canon Law.
Like every company and organisations the church must follow these procedures.
Sadly the case is some Bishops are so slow to act and interpet Canon law differently and because they think they know all they will not consult until they need to.
Also the church has its administration curia in rome and clergy have right to appeal.
The cases above involve two slow acting Bishops and will come to the same end.

The only factor you haven’t mentioned, is why those bishops / VDs / seminary faculty got their hands tied. Both bad and less bad causes. D Farrell was sometimes mentioned as a bad influence in Maynooth, and a good one now: is that because now he has scope he has shown his real spots unlike Pell who didn’t alter his line. Is it too early to get in his space? Are some of the Irish people praying non-ad hominem prayers for the Irish Church, whatever their faction? I’m just picking up disjointed fragments.

Funny you say the church abides by the criminal law – in the concluding session of IICSA – Fr Gerry Doyle fessed up that the Vicar General Dan Leonard had given him a wad of cash and to go and tell Sam Penny to get the hell out of Dodge as the Fuzz was on its way to arrest him. Ah yes as you say the Church is always keen to abide by the criminal law
Regarding the civil law and nothing to hide – Cardinal Pell disclosed that 1.4 billion euros were parked outside of the balance sheets. Er something not quite right there me thinks.
I could on and on – numerous evidential public knowledge examples of miscreancy, criminality and tort.
Oh I don’t think we will have to wait too long – the long arm of the law stretches far back – hey only recently Fr Matthew Jolie and Fr Joe Quigley bit the dust – a few bad apples or a system corrupt to its core.
As I said – Canon Law My Arse.
And squeal like little piggies they will I promise you.

Civil and Criminal law trumps Canon Law.

Criminal law the Church would never oppose as if any clergy, religious or employee has broken the law then that it is what it is there for.
Civil law anyone can clllange the church on civil law however very few do and again the church has nothing to hide.
The Church is administered by Canon Law and that is the rules and regulation the church works to.

As for squealling like little piggies I think you will wait a long time for that to happen and the only ones that squel is the ones that have done wrong and they deserve what they get.
