THE BOY IN THE PRESBYTERY.

The Boy in the Presbytery will release on June 25, 2021.

When a priest promised Anne Levey he would help put her young son Paul back on the straight and narrow, she thought her prayers had been answered. Little did she know the reason her 12-year-old son was rebelling was because the priest—Gerald Ridsdale—was sexually abusing him.

Ridsdale

But the predator—who had offended before—used the woman’s blind faith in the Catholic Church to his advantage.

Paul Levey

Paul was sent to live with his abuser in the Mortlake presbytery. There he was sexually abused by the priest almost every day for about a year. Years later this secret that haunted Paul’s every waking minute was revealed. But if he thought his nightmare was over, he was wrong. Paul would go on to find out that many high-ranking leaders in the Catholic Church knew Ridsdale was a child molester, and yet they did nothing to stop the evil man from snatching Paul’s innocence and turning his life into a living hell. Sadly, it was a story all too common—the Catholic Church became a playground for paedophiles, a safe haven for them to commit atrocious acts. Now Paul is sharing his story in a bid to end the silence.

RIDSDALE BIO WIKIPEDIA

Gerald Francis Ridsdale (born 20 May 1934), an Australian laicised Catholic priest, was convicted between 1993 and 2017 of a large number of child sexual abuse and indecent assault charges against 65 children aged as young as four years. The offences occurred from the 1960s to the 1980s while Ridsdale worked as a school chaplain at St Alipius Primary School, a boys’ boarding school in the Victorian regional city of Ballarat. Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse found that senior figures in the church knew about Ridsdale’s abusing children but protected him. Ridsdale was ordained at St Patrick’s Cathedral in Ballarat in 1961. The first complaint about his behaviour towards children was received by the church that same year. Ridsdale held 16 different appointments over a period of 29 years as a priest, with an average of 1.8 years per appointment.

DIOCESE COVERED UP FOR RIDSDALE:

On 13 September 2019, the Diocese of Ballarat released a statement admitting that high-ranking clergy in the diocese knew of sex abuse claims against Ridsdale and afterwards made efforts to shield him from prosecution.[19] This confession came in the wake of a civil lawsuit filed against the diocese by one of Ridsdale’s victims.[19]

GEORGE PELL JOKED ABOUT RIDSDALE ABUSING BOYS:

George Pell accused of joking about Gerald Ridsdale’s abuse of children

By Jane Lee

Updated December 7, 201

A survivor has told a royal commission he overheard George Pell joking about paedophile priest Gerald Ridsdale “rooting boys again” more than a decade before Ridsdale was convicted of multiple counts of child sexual abuse.

Cardinal Pell – who will appear at the child abuse royal commission in Melbourne next week – was widely criticised for supporting Ridsdale at his first court appearance for child sex offences in 1993. Cardinal Pell was also present at at least one meeting of senior priests which decided Ridsdale should be moved to another parish, but maintains he never knew children were being abused while he was in Ballarat.

The survivor, known as BWE, told the commission on Monday he was aged between 10 and 12, and getting ready to serve as an altar boy for a funeral mass, when he overheard Cardinal Pell speaking to parish priest Father Frank Madden in the sacristy at St Patrick’s Cathedral in 1983. Cardinal Pell, he said, was officiating the mass because the deceased woman was either his former parishioner or close friend.

“After they had exchanged pleasantries, Father Madden said ‘How’s everything your way?’ or words to that effect. George Pell responded by saying ‘Haha I think Gerry’s been rooting boys again’.”

****BUY THE BOOK AND SUPPORT VICTIMS OF ABUSE****

We should buy this book to support victims.

This is a horrible story – but only one horrible story among hundreds and thousands of similar horrible stories across the global RCC.

What could be worse than the global sexual assault and rape of babies by priests and religious?

Why is the RCC not a global pariah?

The Pelli anecdote is completely credible – clerical loose talk is a disease, they all suffer from it and often don’t realize lay people, in this case a child, is listening in – of course they don’t give a shite that God might be listening too – if they believe in God that is (many clerics are atheists in fact). Imagine the legally acquitted Pell laughing and mocking his bezzy Ridsdale for being at ‘rooting’ children.
Pell will deny ever saying it – lying is second nature for the Vatican, prelates and clergy.
The Clerical Queen’s are the worst – they live to disparage and denigrate.
Hey Lads go easy on the dirty talk cuz someone might be listening!!

So very credible, but it’s always those annoying little facts that undermine the narrative. Like the fact that Fr Madden had left the cathedral parish several years before the alleged incident, and lived three hours away. And the fact that any funeral Fr Madden would have offered when he was at the cathedral occurred before Fr Pell’s arrival in Ballarat, when he lived four hours away. But apart from annoying facts, it’s all completely credible. 🙄

As a former RC priest who was abused by a priest when I was a 17 year old seminarian on a parish placement. Then in senior seminary I was locked in a room by a fellow student for over an hour and offered money for sex. He even said “I have had lots of lads in this room, just close your eyes and pretend it is a woman…” The student in question is now a priest in Gibraltar Diocese. I told those in authority about him a few years back but nothing was done. I was also propositioned and groomed by other students. I spent five years trying to get the Church to act on the abuse I suffered, but no one really wanted to know. Eventually I went to the Police and the priest who abused me when I was 17 ended up in prison. Because of the court case I was ostracised by the Diocese and treated terribly, so much so, that I couldn’t in conscience carry on working as a priest. The diocese even had a mass offered for my abuser, whilst he was in prison, on the Feast of the Holy Innocents. So I left. I know for a fact, from experience, that abuse is right at the core of the RC Church and it never wants to listen to victims, instead it re-abuses them. Thank goodness for books like this one which continue to highlight the ‘real’ RC Church. I hope that a great many people read it!

Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil, for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. No one born of God makes a practice of sinning, for God’s seed abides in him, and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of God. By this it is evident who are the children of God, and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is the one who does not love his brother.
8:26, I am sorry to hear of the abuse you have suffered.

With respect Seamusviii, for quite a while now I’ve found your constant quotations so utterly boring, regularly irrelevant and annoyingly repetitive that I now scroll past your every comment.
You’re a relative newcomer to the blog and judging from your numerous comments appear to give it 24/7 attention.
Kindly realise that others have views too and may not appreciate being swamped by yours.
I for one would appreciate it if you restricted your comments to just a couple on each issue, and with less quotations please!

Inclined to agree. A quotation out of context is as useless as a fish out of water (to the fish).

However, not to give offense to them, go to the sea and cast a hook and take the first fish that comes up, and when you open its mouth you will find a shekel. Take that and give it to them for me and for yourself.

What’s more shocking was rcc ostracised you out. Its sheer hypocrisy when they speak of ‘a community’ or ‘body of christ’.
Not surprising you reminded me when the nuns (daughters of the cross of liege) wasn’t happy with me and ostracised me when I visited their place as part of counselling exercise after 30 years. It was a quite traumatic experience for me personally as I couldn’t stay any longer.
Anyway nuns knew that I reported them and offered me tea. TBH, I wasn’t very comfortable there, quite the opposite cis the surviving nun was there. Later afterwards, beneath nun’s veneer, they knew and defended their old nun to legal authorities, whose cruelty went overboard for so many deaf boys. She came from the North as her brother worked in then ruc that time. They denied in their letter.
How can they claim to be Catholic cos they were lying despite many similar stories coming from deaf boys now adults whose psychological scars, they bear now?
Donegal Healer was helpful to me cos it enabled me to forgive the abusers and move on. But I couldn’t trust rcc cos what they did and denied. That was shocking cos I originally thought at first, they might be honest and tell the truth before they denied it officially(I was naive that time).

Garry Wills, a Pulitzer Prize-winning author, suggested the repudiation of the sacrificial interpretation of the Eucharist and a return to an understanding that is more consonant with the biblical texts and the practice of the early church. Restore the Eucharist to its original meaning as a thanksgiving meal.
Judas was present at the last supper. Clerics who have or are betraying the Lord, have been or are at the altar the Eucharist. Not everyone who joins in a thanksgiving meal are worthy. Clerical state or lay state doesn’t make a difference.

There are some vile people in the church. Righteous people are rightly outraged, be they in clerical state or lay state. Vile people have caused immense hurt. Vile creatures in powerful church positions have protected the vile creatures. The church needs to be cleansed. The bad sheep need to be rooted out of the church.

Pat, there’s little commentary today: I and many others will have already commented on these issues many times on your blog. Yes, stories and experiences of abuse must be heard but any comments I would make have been made already on numerous occasions. I am deeply sorry for the experience of Former RC Priest. I hope he has found some fulfilment and peace. I am sorry for anyone abused by a priest. All abuse is repugnant and perpetrators deserve the justice of civil courts and survivors deserve JUSTICE and HEALING. Can I also say I concur with commenter re: Seamus viii: he is now almost a 24/7 bore, repetitive, preachy and inane and way off the issues all too frequently. Please keep him at bay….

And I agree with that comment about that Seamusviii fellah.
