We have been told that the Maynooth seninarian, Mr Stephen Wilson is to be ordained to the diaconate today at 3 pm in St Patrick’s Cathedral, Armagh.
Yesterday I sent the email below to Archbishop Eamon Martin.
I copied it to the Papal Nuncio in Dublin and to the chancellor, vicar general and diocesan secretary of tge Armagh archdiocese.

I have absolutely no personal grievance against Mr Wilson. I have never met him and as far as I know, he has never done me the slighest wrong.
I wish him no personal harm or disadvantage.
Below, is an excerpt from the Roman Pontifical on the ordination of deacons:

The bishop asks: “Do you judge them to be worthy”.
He is answered, very often by the president of the seminary, in this case Michael Mullaney:
“After inquiry among the people of Christ, and upon recommendation of those concerned with their training, I testify that they have been found worthy”.
In my opinion, the recommendations of the president or staff of Maynooth cannot be relied upon.
And I know that a number of “the people of Christ” have communicated with Archbishop Eamon Martin on this matter and they did not recommend this man either. Quite the contrary.
THE KERRY EXAMPLE
The Kerry clergy will tell you that they believe that Ray Browne ordained Fr Sean Jones (King Puck) to spite me and the blog.
Is Eamon Martin doing the same?
Is he ordaining Stephen Wilson to spite someone or something?
If so, what a dreadful reason for an ordination.
This matter is far from ended!

I’m VERY pleased Stephen is being ordained to the diaconate and soon, to the priesthood. He is a good man, a faithful servant of God and has persevered through baseless accusations, keeping his eyes firmly fixed on Jesus.

This Stephen Wilson’s name has appeared regularly on this blog over the last couple of years. I’m not sure exactly what it is that caused that to be the case, nor do I know what he is supposed to have done, or what it is about him, his character and his behaviour, that would render him unsuitable for priesthood. Would someone be good enough to refresh our memories on this one ? Certainly, the pattern of behaviour of a candidate for priesthood should be instructive as to whether that person is suitable for ordination. I don’t doubt that in this case of Stephen Wilson this will involve sexuality, practice of that sexuality, relationships, behaviour in contradiction to the Church’s requirements of celibacy and chastity expected of clergy and those aspiring to be priests. However, there are other aspects which should be looked at as well, which often don’t seem to figure in any assessment. For example, the theological and liturgical mindset of the candidate should be carefully looked at and be in conformity with Vatican II and how the Church has developed in some areas in theological, pastoral and liturgical thinking and practice. I know young priests who are being ordained who act and behave, at least in their public persona, as if they are pre-Vatican II clerics wallowing in traditionalist and rigourist theological, pastoral and liturgical behaviours and practices. The usual signs are an exalted sense of clerical exceptionalism and privilege, an inordinate interest in lace, birettas, fiddleback vestments, rubrics, Latin (even though most of them would not have a clue how to understand any Latin other than that which they have memorised by rote in order to celebrate Latin Mass !), and moral and pastoral stances which are extremely conservative, traditionalist and rigourist. As I say, this is the persona they portray in their public lives, whereas so often with these same people there is another life in private – cliquish, gossipy, overtly gay and camp, extra curricular activities involving sexual activity and relationships, questionable frequenting of gay bars, saunas and cruising sites, physical and digital – all of which sits uneasily with the Church’s clear expectation of a certain level of probity and decent behaviour from men who are proclaiming themselves as chaste and celibate. Are these considerations also not important when deciding whether seminarians should be advanced to priesthood. Do any of these apply in the case of Stephen Wilson ?

We have had a few seminarians in our parish who fit into the type described by Donkey Dodo @ 0926. It was easy to tell that they were living one life when on duty – and it is described perfectly by 0926 – and then there was a distinct whiff of the other life when they thought they were off duty. I was quite surprised. When I mentioned it, I was told that I didn’t understand the clerical life and how it was lived. Yeah ??!!

My understanding from this blog is that Diarmuid Martin was the only one to act on the summer of ’16.
“One returned to give thanks, but the other nine were not heard of again.”
In all walks of life people keep making the same mistakes over and over again until they learn from there mistakes. It seems that the church hasn’t learned lessons of previous bad appointments and will continue to pay for it in the long-term be that financially, reputationally or otherwise.
“A study from the University of Chicago found that we often don’t learn from our mistakes at all. In fact, mistakes can actually undermine learning: Over the course of five different experiments, when participants were told they got something wrong, they shut down and did worse on subsequent tasks.”

Bishop Pat do not get like the Catholic Church Bishops “it is all ME” as you are far too Good to go down to that level.
A Bishop would not stop an ordination because of your blog or gossip as it is to risky for a Bishop to take the risk of not ordaining someone suitable for the priesthood.
Yes the Bishops of Ireland and the UK do not like the blog but they know sometimes it is spot on.
Archbishop Martin has to ordain Stephen Wilson as his formators and the Rector have presented him for ordination and Archbishop Martin would be is horrific bother if he did not ordain him due to Pope Francis’s new rules on Bishops.
What is needed is evidence and Stephen Wilson to admit to the TRUTH but clergy, deacons and seminarians are good liars and you only need to think of the father Ger case to see how good a liar they can be.
You will recall Archbishop Jude Okolo did not want Big Tom but he had to because all he had was gossip but Archbishop Jude made his sign the paperwork on the Altar a First in the history of the Church and so far Big Tom has been watching himself.
I think there maybe a cover up going on with Stephen Wilson and people should make it know over this next year to the Papal Nuncio not Archbishop Martin.

There’s hypocrisy here. Many young people are sexually active in their teenage years. People are entering seminary later than used to be the case. It’s not reasonable to expect that the transition to celibacy would happen as soon as the seminary threshold is crossed. Candidates for ordination are children of their age – not vestal virgins.

Sex as a “gift from God” which belongs in committed relationships and marriage as a sacrament of commitment are two of the themes included in new sex education resources for Catholic schools.
The church allows the marriage of parents with children already. This to me shows an understanding of intimacy in a committed relationship. There is scope for the church to work on it’s message of committed relationships. It’s a tricky message for the church to be fair. They advocate the ideal of intimacy within marriage. Where people fall short of that ideal, the church could improve the message of advocating committed relationships. Encouraging people to be respectful of each other and to get to know one another. A society that encourages respect might see women less afraid of walking the streets as was on the news from London in recent weeks.
There is health advice to back up the churches position. It’s a discussion to be had.

It is said that a person shouldn’t shit on his own doorstep, but Catholic priests have been doing this for so long and so copiously that standing next to even one of these moral misfits and criminals should induce a person to scrub himself in the shower afterwards to reduce the risk of contamination.
