PEOPLE OF ENNIS NOT BEING TOLD THE TRUTH BY FINTAN MONAHAN OR CLARE NEWSPAPERS.

There is great confusion in Ennis and Killaloe over the case of Father Ger Fitzgerald.

Monahan

Fintan Monahan allowed Ger to jump before he was pushed.

There is nothing wrong in itself with this approach – except Ger and others have sought to construct it as a “normal” sabbatical after ten years of service.

No one wants Fintan to go into the gorey details but he could have said something like: “Father Fitzgerald is going on leave as a result of disciplinary matters”.

So the bishop is deliberately leaving the people of Ennis ignorant of the nature of Ger’s absence.

This is playing into Ger’s self-denial and the denial of his most ardent followers who think Ger has been done some kind of injustice.

The Clare newspapers are not helping by carrying the Church version of the story – even though they they have besn supplied with the full truth.

But this, once again, is rural Ireland deferring to the Church.

As similar types were called years ago in the political world – “the bishop’s bum boys”.

COVER UP

So cover up is alive and well in Ireland.

BRADY

Speaking of cover-up – I see they wheeled out Ould Cover Up Brady for the shannigans in Armagh yesterday.

Why does Brady keep on turning up like a bad penny? He should be living an obscure life of prayer, penance and reparation.

Save your mercy for the 7 year old victim the Wounded Healer interrogated and swore to secrecy.

There’s something about justice in that Gospel too, love, but Brady ignored it. He’s still ignoring it, because he stubbornly refuses to admit that by the standard of the time (which for Brady WASN’T the Gospel you selectively used) he did anything wrong.

It’s great that priests and deacons, whether gay or straight, are letting it all hang out and are shedding the inhibitions and guilt that have burdened the clergy for centuries. They have nothing to lose but their chains.

Gorgeous ? Roreeee ? Rawhide Purcell ? Puck ? Captain Underpants ? The Dean ? And many more. Such a cast of possibilities ! They really only have themselves to blame. They are the ones who have been behaving in ways which have got them noticed. It’s more of the classic victimhood role where this guy is complaining that he’s in the spotlight and being victimised. But, he’s only in the spotlight because he is precisely the one who has put himself in the spotlight. He could start with accepting responsibility for himself and his actions and recognising that his name comes up because of things that he himself has done. It’s more of the clerical exceptionalism phenomenon – “We can do what we want as priests and we don’t have to take responsibility”. Unlike everybody else in the world. Don’t blame + Pat or us for the attention you are getting. You have brought it upon yourselves !

What planet does Burke live on ? It’s like something from the mouth of Fulton Sheen. Except that Sheen was probably a little more benign that this old embittered, self-laothing Queen. Essentially, what he is asking is that we turn from what he sees as murderous communisim and secularism, and trust…..whom ? ….well, the Church, by which he really means people like him. Well, we tried that, and where did it get us ? What did we see when we pulled back the curtain and took a peek at the grimy and murky world of bishops and priests ? No thank you, Mother Burke ! Those days are gone.

In any other walk of life where a professional transgresses boundaries with a client ( in this case priest and parishioner ) this priest Ger would not have the opportunity to present himself as victim. He would be immediately suspended, and an investigation would ensue, because he, as the professional, has the responsibility for ensuring that his actions do not overstep any professional boundaries. It all comes down to him, and if he transgresses then it is his responsibility. He is no victim. Hopefully, when he does go off on his ‘sabbatical’, and if Lugs is able to get him in to some therapeutic place, then the counsellors there will see through Ger’s victimhood and will bring him face to face with reality and with himself. That would be a start. My own view is that even after has done his time in therapy / counselling, that he is not allowed back in to ministry given his history of sexual transgressions, which is indicative of someone who has never taken any vow of celibacy seriously, and is unlikely to to do in the future. In present circumstances where the Church still insists on celibacy for its priests, it is a nonsense for them to re-admit someone who is clearly unsuited and incapable of respecting his promise.

He is certainly looking past his prime. And what entitles him to a seventh candle given that is not the Ordinary of anywhere?

Like

I don’t think the observation at 5:40 regarding Mother’s candle is correct, as universal jurisdiction applies only to the Pope. If Mother insists on the seventh candle, it must not be lit, as Mother is not the Ordinary. She ought to know that.

If your god exists at all and not in the hypocritical, pretentious shite you losers preach, then I think he might care, even if just in passing.
It is telling that you think no one gives a duck that Ger has been ducking another outside his publicly expressed promise not to duck, ever.
If it’s true that no one except Pat gives a duck that Ger has been ducking when he had promised not to duck, then how the duck do you expect anyone, never mind Pat, to heed you when you speak about Jesus (who, apparently, never ducked) and integrity, and all that pious, useless shite? (Well, useless in your eyes, at any rate.)

Like

I will begin with a note of disagreement for it is not right to compare breaches of priestly vows to the transgressions of a profession. Priesthood is a vocation, not a profession. The idea of it being a profession creates comfortable bachelors and career bishops.
Secondly in a profession a man may take a wife, which – while not removing the risk – does cause a significant reduction in the likelihood of such affairs. When Ger was in Maynooth there was a spiritual director, Fr. Myles. He used to tell the seminarians that “celibacy prevents affairs with one woman, because marriage would have prevented all the other affairs”. And so it is, that if the priest could marry Ger may not have had an affair at all. He is a victim of an institution.
The doctors can decide if he is capable of living celibacy in the future.

Like

Priesthood is a vocation? 🤣 What self-aggrandising, clericalist humbug! 😡
Jesus did not establish a priesthood: he came to obviate it, to do what it could not do. ATONE FOR SIN.
It was his followers, some of them, who returned to priesthood, thereby denying Christ’s atoning sacrifice.
We need priests as much as we need perverts, paedophiles, ephebophiles, etc. In historical fact, we have all these PRECISELY because we have priests.
Every time you have the gross misfortune to come across one of these social leeches, know that you are being confronted by a liar who is a walking denial of Christ’s supreme sacrifice.

What does this riddle even mean? I must be as thick as champ because I don’t understand it.

@3.07
We have these things because the Latin Rite appoints full-time, salaried, sex-deprivated priests. We may have a different calibre of priest if they were self-financing, married priests. I do think priesthood is a necessity, and vocation to priesthood exists – but many true vocations are hampered by the institution.

Poor journalism in Ennis – what’s the story there? They should blow the Fr Ger story wide open – always disappointing to see the 4th Estate cow towing yo State, Church or Proprietor (even Murdoch gave editorial freedom and didn’t interfere – NoW was a superb investigative newspaper).

Yes NoW kept the clergy on their toes. It belonged to the days of packed churches, where the faithful would rush out of Sunday Mass to the newsagent to pick up a copy. Always delicious to read about some old ecclesiastical hypocrite caught flagrante.

I never Disagree with Pat’s headlines but he knows as a former Journalist that you need to print the true facts and that is why his previous paper was closed down (The News of the World).
The Bishop or his comms team would make a statement if they could but I guess Ger keeps changing his mind and it is all Ger’s game.
Sabbaticals according to Killaloe Diocesan are planned in January and if that were the case the dioceses would say so and place it on web site as Sabbatical not c/o Diocesan offices.
The Clare media only covered the story to let people know that their hero had been placed on leave of absence.
Fintan is being cagey with canon law because Ger will likely appeal and if Fintan says too much then Ger will win.
Ger is having his leave of absence and the ones still under attack is Yvonne the victim and Fintan.
Surely the Real people of Ennis are not that stupid not to understand that Ger is on leave of absence for nothing.

Get over him he will not be back in Cloughleigh and if you are lucky you may see him back at the Cathedral next Easter for the Mass of Chrism.
The parishioners may not care about Ger sexual flings but the Church does and so does his fellow clergy and he has let them down big time.

Maybe Ger will join the Anglicans or the Social Services as he really does not have a vocation to the Sacred Priesthood when he could stand and lie to a Bishop then go back and tell the TRUTH and don’t forget while living the double life he was saying Holy Mass.

12.59: Bith person’s – the priest and the woman consensually agreed to have secual intimacy. That doesn’t make the action right especially when both knew that there would be consequences. I blame both parties for the subsequent fallout and the hurt caused to many. Both are responsible.

Yes, both are responsible, but one is morally more culpable than the other: the lying, hypocritical, romanist priest who had made a publicly expressed promise not to duck, ever and never.

Noticed Canon Paul Nener from Liverpool was mentioned again yesterday.
When he was priest in charge at St. James the Great, Haydock, he was a saw thumb even then!
Upset a 17 year old boy by harassing him and going round telling everybody they were romantic lovers, the boy eventually had to move to a different area.
Seriously cracked in the head, but a very devious character.
If Canon Paul Nener gets wind the authorities are into him they had better keep a close eye on him, he will put a knife in your back and smile all the while.
Extremely disturbed and unhinged.
Has contacts, bishops and the likes. Friends in high places, especially in the good old Church of England.
Licence to do what he likes. And at will..
Be very, very careful is my advise to any who have been wronged by him,
you have been duly briefed.

Now was scapegoat for hacking scandal – the establishment hate Murdoch – he owns the Times too (the best newspaper of record in the world) and anyway NoW rose again as The Sun on Sunday – of course the good people of Ennis know or whiff the scandal but secular newspapers are good at calling the church to heel as is Bishop Pat – speaking truth to power etc – great pity when newspapers seen to be falling short of duty not just to report but expose and irony of irony bring into the light.
Bishop Pat is like a prophet of old – a thorn in the side, a pain in the arse for the establishment and especially the church – I think as long as scandal isn’t paedophilia the church has plenty of wiggle room and stretches it to its limits.
God only knows how they see themselves as moral ethical guardian when there moral compass is so skewed.

St Ger. The story follows a patten. Get portrayed as a great community activist which I’m sure he is. The “issues “ seem to relate to the department of the trousers and appropriate external expression of sexuality. The issue is the church system. There is also the professional duty of care when working with “vulnerable “ people. On another point the alleged treatment of the lady in this story is unacceptable and unreasonable. Many questions. Thing is are we asking the right questions and insisting on appropriate answers. A priest is not just a good person in community but also a spiritual influence for good

Like

2.00: There is absolutely nothing wring with a priest or a religious becoming involved in local, community activities. None whatsoever. In fact in country areas it is of immense value to both priest and community to be so involved. In some instances the priest and religious have been responsible for some amazing community initiatives. Get up to date…..Diocesan priestly life is about combining all aspects together…

Why is Maynooth so useless at weeding out men who shouldn’t be priests? I don’t just mean the criminals, I mean the legions of those ordained in the last twenty to thirty years who go MIA a few years after ordination.

In some dioceses, like Clogher, the presbyterate between the ages of 30-60 has been hallowed out be departures.

Whenever I see an ordination now I wonder how long they’ll last. Is the priestly attrition rate higher than the divorce rate?

Bishop Pat
Priests are ordained to bring the sacraments to the people not be social service workers or running pastoral centres (parish halls).
Clergy are not trained is Social Services or Building services they are they to sign post people to the correct professional teams.
So a Priest is trained in the Sacraments.

I remember the fuss about KOB going to parishes for night prayers and everyone knows what happened and I see Ger had night prayers at 9pm which is strange usually only time the catholic Church has public night prayers is Holy Thursday.
Needless to say KOB night prayers ended up pyjama parties.

You’re a teenaged RE student, aren’t you? Something along that line, then? It sure does show; no disrespect.
The Sacraments are merely ‘SIGNS of the Sacred’ (from the Latin ‘sacramentum’); they are not the Sacred itself. And this is God, isn’t it?
Jesus, being God too, does not need a romanist priest to ‘bring’ him anywhere: he’s quite capable of doing that for himself. He is, after all, omnipresent; even the Romanists themselves dogmatically admit as much.
Don’t you find it puzzling that the one place to which the overwhelming majority of romanist priests won’t ‘bring’ Jesus is Calvary? Isn’t that queer? On the contrary, poor abandoned Jesus has to bring himself there virtually every time, just as he did to Golgotha 2000 years ago. Oh! I know what the Gospel of John says on that score, because it places the Johannine sub-hero, John himself, right there on Golgatha with Jesus, alone of all the disciples who ducked off when the going got rough. But John’s gospel isn’t primarily concerned with historical narrative (and even less with historical truth). John took more than a little licence with historical chronology just to make certain ecumenical points about the inter-relation of Judaism, and its post-judaistic sect … what we call ‘Christianity’.
But wasn’t it just a touch vain of John to make himself part of that vehicle, along with Mary, for expressing this and not, say, Peter or Andrew? I suppose that’s one working out of the humility Jesus taught John, and the others. Perhaps, after all, it was just down to those ‘magic’ mushrooms on Patmos that must have formed a significant part of John’s highly restricted diet. They should certainly have been headily moreish.

Like

DG, Patmos climatically and botanically is highly suited to the cultivation of these hallucinogenic fungi; they grow there today, and aplenty.

If this John is indeed the author of Revelation, it could account for its surreal, psychedellic imagery; it may have nothing at all to do with metaphysics.

Scholars for centuries have sought to understand Revelation, seeking a ‘key’ to unlock its meaning. But it may have no meaning beyond the chemically induced ‘visions’ of an intensely lonely man cruelly imprisoned on an island by the Romans and left there, alone, to scavenge for food.

If this fungus relieved the man’s searing anguish, who are we to judge him?

Like

Why didnt we cop it all before? Come on! Dont be a kid: do you really think the romanist cult would have given out that piece of possible historical truth when it had already taken such pains to conceal other self-inconvenient truths, like the rape of children?
No; the illusion … the lie … of romanist supreme moral authority needed to be maintained at all costs.
That’s why.

+Monahan will no doubt believe that he is duty bound to protect the priest in question to some extent even in light of what has happened, hence the vague language. While it may well be the case that he has a responsibility to his clergy, his responsibility to each member of the faithful in the diocese is at least equal in obligation. If the Bishop is aware of the consequences of his reticence and still doing nothing to clarify matters, it is certainly yet another cause for concern even if unsurprising.

Like

Bishop Monahan has a duty to the people he is trusted with and I am sure that will be always on his mind.
According to someone on this blog when parishes are open he is always there even kissing the old grannies and the babies so he has a Parish Priest approach and certainly an administrators mind.
To be fair to him he likely is trying his best but when you are dealing with a priest who is not honest with the truth then it is extremely difficult and bishop Monahan will not want to fall on his own sword.
Ger Fitzgerald had weeks to tell the truth but he went into denial mode then it seems finally told the Bishop then Ger had the chance to speak the truth again but decided to get Tom Ryan to read out a lying email that he was taking a leave of absence.
The situation will never move forward until Ger admits the Truth and apologises to the Victim the fan club then his Bishop and Brother Priests.
What Priest would want to work with a liar and yes maybe we could all forgive him for breaking his vows but to make life hard for the Victim and the Bishop is shocking.
He will be at his families place licking his wounds saying poor me.
Ger and the Dioceses have stated that he is taking a leave of absence and that is different from a sabbatical as a sabbatical is structured.

I attended the funeral of Josef Pavelka in 2013 where Fr. Ger said the mass…his ego is his biggest problem. He gave an oration in the church another over-extended one at the graveside where cameras were present. It was obvious he was getting some kind of a fix from it all. Weeks later, a sleep out for the homeless. His pastoral work in Cloughleigh also led to great praise (ego fixes). While I understand that the locals want him back and ‘don’t care’ about his dealings with Yvonne Drake, these are quite possibly people that would decry the likes of Trump for his degrading attitude to women when there isn’t much difference between them except for the matter of scale. He needs the same treatment as any addict to get his ego under control
