GAY CATHOLIC LAY MEN versus GAY CATHOLIC PRIESTS.

To avoid confusion, can I state that there is a massive difference between a sexually active gay layman and a sexually active gay priest.

A sexually active gay layman has not taken a public promise of celibacy and chastity and is not living a lifestyle that is paid for by the Church and parishioners on the basis of their belief that the man is chaste and celibate.

A sexually active gay priest is pretending to be chaste and celibate and is therefore taking the financial, ecclesiastical and social benefits he is receiving from the Church and parishioners under false pretences.

Such a priest is selling the Church and the People of God a pig in a poke.

And this is not just a question sexual morality. Its also about hypocrisy, lies, dishonesty and double standards.

Any priest who wants to be sexually active and retain credibility and authhenticity must do the following:

1. Inform his bishop or religious superior that he is a sexually active gay man.

2. Inform the people he ministers to at Mass etc that he is a sexually active gay man.

3. Inform his family and friends that he is a sexually active gay man.

4. Accept the consequences of this honesty and see it as the price of authenticity and spiritual and human wholeness.

And when a priest takes these steps he must fall back on his faith and firmly believe that God will look after him in every single possible way.

What is it they say: “Cast your bread upon the water”.

THE PROBLEM

The problem is that most priests would not be capable of the above actions for the following reasons:

1. Lack of courage.

2. Lack of moral fibre.

3. Lack of faith and spirituality.

4. Lack of trust on God.

5. Lack of trust in their own inner strength.

6. Refusal to abandon the position, comfort, finances they enjoy.

Jesus said: “Where the master is the servant should also be”

Jesus had no comfort, respectability, security, finances, position etc.

He said: “The Son of man has nowhere to lay his head”.

The Church tells us that priests are “ontologically changed” and are “alter Christus” – other Christs.

Like Hell they are 🤣

Peace be with you my brothers and sisters in Christ!
Pope Francis said who am I to judge.
9Out of one of them came another horn, a little one, which grew exceedingly great toward the south, toward the east, and toward the beautiful land. 10It grew as high as the host of heaven. It threw down to the earth some of the host and some of the stars, and trampled on them. 11Even against the prince of the host it acted arrogantly; it took the regular burnt offering away from him and overthrew the place of his sanctuary.

Surely being an other Christ would mean being both divine and human? Or do these godlings only partake of one nature?
One thing is for certain- Jesus couldn’t possibly have been gay because it is a construct unknown then however it does amuse me when people who are otherwise certain he was true god and true man get so upset at the idea of Jesus having human sexuality.
I used to have a very amusing Victorian holy picture claiming to show mass in the catacombs. It depicted tridentine high mass, including lace and baroque vestments!

Jesus couldn’t possibly have been gay because it was a construct unknown then? Considering that homosexual acts are remarked on in both the Old and New Testaments, the existence of gay people must have been common knowledge in the Ancient World, though not by modern terms.
You’re as much at fault as the people you criticise for shying away from even the thought that Jesus had a sexuality (and, therefore, sexual temptations), because you cannot accept even the possibility that Jesus was queer.
The New Testament says that Jesus was tempted in every way that human beings are. Logically, this includes sexual temptation, including perhaps the homosexual kind. No one can confidently rule it in. Or out.

No dear. While homosexual acts are known in 22 species and all times in NT times the idea of sexual orientation was unknown.
You are promoting an anachronism.

So homosexual orientation in the Ancient World was unknown because… you presume it was unknown? Wow! Well done. You’ve created you’re very own logical fallacy.
Good to know your capacity to presume historical reality has also the similtaneous power to make it objectively exist; you and God are cut from the same omniscient cloth.
While we’re on the subject of homosex in the Ancient World, can you tell me what the duck relevance corresponding animal homosex has to the topic? If you can’t come up with a sensible answer, I’m sure you can presume one.

You’ve shown a nascent intelligence, too immature to understand my earlier post, but I encourage it nevertheless.

I’m delighted that you managed to distinquish the STATE of homosexual orientation from its modern, nominal form. An earlier poster, at 10.10, conflated the two. If this was you, then I marvel at the leap your nascent intelligence has made in the interim. Well done.

Be careful, though, about stating the bleedin’ obvious, because it can sound patronising. Of course homosexual orientation in the Ancient World (which we both acknowledge existed) was not known as ‘homosexual orientation’. It would be silly to say otherwise, wouldn’t it, since the word ‘homosexual’ wasn’t coined until the second half of the nineteenth century?Neverthess, the orientation did exist back then, by whatever name it was known, or not known. As Shakespeare cannily said, a rose by any other name would smell as sweet. In other words, a rose, ontologically, would still be a rose, even if it were known as a dandelion.

You get my drift.😊

Quite an ignorant post.
The concept of sexual orientation (over and against same-sex activity) is a nineteenth-century phrase. It doesn’t mean it didn’t exist, of course it did. It was simply not identified.

From a purist Roman Catholic stance, any sexual activity outside of the marriage is sinful, including homosexual genital activity between laymen. Actively gay priests would come under that initial stipulation. However, in the case of RC priests who take a promise of celibacy, any sexual activity, gay or straight, is necessarily an added level of sinfulness, because they do not only break the general prohibition, but they also break a solemn promise made publicly before God and the Church. There is much debate both within the Church and without about the nature of homosexual acts, and rightly there has been a broadening of understanding acceptance of homosexuality, at least outside the Church. Within the Church, homosexuality is still viewed through a biblical and mediaeval prism that has been shown to be outdated and incorrect, but the Church continues to insist on its negative view of homosexuality (intrinsically disordered) and its view that homosexual genital activity is gravel sinful. Whichever which way you cut it, RC priests who are homosexually genitally active are not just inherently disordered but also gravely sinful, according to the Church to which they belong, to which they have given their loyalty, and whose teachings they publicly uphold and preach about.
Surely, if you were being told this at every step by the Church that you were an integral part of you would see the gulf between your life and behaviour and how you were being judged ? Surely, you would look to go somewhere, some kind of life, where you were appreciated and valued rather than condemned and undermined ? Surely, you would want to be able to live an honest, transparent and open life, rather than scurrying around in the dark living a double, parallel existence and having to live a constant lie ? I am bemused why priests who are homosexual and want to engage in homosexual genital activity, or relationships, stay in the Church. It must be very painful for them. Or, maybe they make a clinical assessment and work out it is in their interests to put up with this lack of integration and honesty and that they should stay and enjoy the goodies that come with being a priest, even an unhappy, deceitful one who lacks integration and any integrity.

Ironically there is a certain integrity if a Catholic, whether priest or lay, recognised gay sexual thoughts in himself and treated them as not to be acted on as that would be sin? This would at least be consistent. I would like to say that that approach would go with a more trad mentality but for the likelihood of dragging up in lace.

Like

Being a Roman Catholic priest and sexually active as a gay man are incompatible. No amount of faith or courage is going to square the circle. If a priest is trying to reconcile both then the only answer is to stop acting out and be faithful to your sacred promise, or leave and find contentment outside of the church. I did the later. I would have been celebrated my
silver jubilee had I remained but would have been deeply unhappy and probably found it too difficult to readjust to secular life if I had left later. It took me 5 years to find my feet and to accept myself and to come out to my family after I left. All I found was unconditional acceptance and love. A car, a roof over your head, no bills to worry about, and adulation from a few old ladies will never make up for true freedom and inner peace.

Even now they are going big on Clergy getting Funeral Plans themselves.
finally the Church used to pay for your care in a care home however they now claim the Scottish Government for personal care and saving dioceses a fortune however the Clergy paid their tax and insurance so they are entitled to it

Most priests would not be capable of taking those steps for the reasons you stated, Pat? You’re far too generous in your estimation of priestly moral character. Practically NONE of these men could take those steps because, like Judas Iscariot, they each sold themselves out at ordination to a bishop and to his successors in return for a comfortable living, the equivalent of Iscariot’s thirty pieces of silver. And they each know it.

Iscariot deserves more credit, though: in the end, he rediscovered his conscience (if only not the capacity for self-forgiveness) ; the vast majority of romanist priests will never rediscover theirs. They serve the Church rather than the God of the Church; in other words, they serve themselves.

I touched a nerve in you, and that is good. Your conscience, long freely yoked to a mammon-worshipping church, is stirring.

The fact that you have turned very self-defensive in the desire to justify yourself (in practice, your betrayal of Christ formally at ordination) is a natural, hopefully transient, desire to avoid stepping up to painful self-truth : it is, in fact, an experience of Purgatory on Earth. Whether it proves efficacious depends entirely on you. I hope you accept the lesson it is trying to teach.

I understand your wish to hurt me in retaliation. I awakened your conscience, and it, in turn, has awakened you to truth about yourself that is painfully hard to accept. I understand, but I do not condone. Nor does God.

You cannot possibly know what graces I may, or may not, have received. So your statement that I did not receive certain graces can only be an oblique expression of your desire that I not receive them. This is evil and sinful on your part.

Nevertheless, I wish you a successful, and speedy, end of the spiritual journey you are now on.

Most walks of life don’t expect candidates to get psychologically assessed. Their suitability is based purely on qualifications and their professional behaviour.
The only exceptions would be situations where the work is exceptionally psychologically destructive such as espionage.
Neither do most walks of life expect people to get psychological treatment for normal human sexual behaviour.
By its approach to its priests and candidates the church is unconsciously showing:
1. It acknowledges it attracts psychopaths and dangerous people.
2. It acknowledges the usual requirements of its clergy are ridiculously psychologically stressful.
3. It acknowledges that it thinks normal human sexuality is a disorder.
4. It acknowledges it treats its clergy as chattels and invades their normal human experience.
It is hard to get much more dis-ordered than this.

As for Catholic priesthood, you slipped up there a bit. He gave an oration in the church another over-extended one at the graveside where cameras were present. It was obvious he was getting some kind of a fix from it all. Weeks later, a sleep out for the homeless. His pastoral work in Cloughleigh also led to great praise (ego fixes). While I understand that the locals want him back and ‘don’t care’ about his dealings with Yvonne Drake, these are quite possibly people that would decry the likes of Trump for his degrading attitude to women when there isn’t much difference between them except for the matter of scale. Mc aleese comments on rcc brought back some feelings which I experienced some form of oppression back then .
Rcc were the oppressors who replaced the British in 1921. What I meant by total oppression was that they clamped down on everything relating to sign language. Priest and cbs considered it a sin and created that new sin if we used it freely in pubicily or privately. So they said it must be confessed etc. Such was the huge power of a priest hence the oppressors. They gave various penalties re breaking sin reating sign displayed or exhibited by ourselves such as x times of leather straps, cleaning their floor, in bad books, monetary fine such as 50p (before the euros). They took over totally on education of deaf person which they had no real expertise in except for their religious education or their degrees. Sometime we were clever than them by going underground cos they don’t understand what’s be to be free and expressive, using our sign language instead of their crude and unworkable method namely oralism. That said, it doesn’t work for every deaf person. Their consequences of their so called expertise on deaf education such as oralism was, plummeting literacy rates, reading age of 8, total dumbing down of education as a key route out of poverty , despite our severe hearing loss. Their damage on our education was incalculable and longer lasting damage. That’s the price we paid for re joining deaf school ran by them. We felt so oppressed cos not to be able to sign freely naturally plus severe penalties imposed by priests and cbs/nuns. Irish State followed their religious wisdom in which they had no real expertise in deaf education except for their charity. Nowadays we are the experts not them. Mc aleese although I’m no fan of her, but it evoked some feelings of oppression when she spoke, which I did experience back at the height of their power . They oppressed hugely on the gay, deaf and various disabilities et al. It was quite and very uncomfortable experience . In reality, rcc replaced the british as new oppressors when they came into being in 1921 replacing the vacuum left by the British. It’s not all about love or mercy, compassion that they preach now. It’s one way street of their brutality, beatings, sex abuses, clamping down on sign language. It was sheer oppression remsicent of Cromwell. They don’t represent God in my view given my experience of them. It doesn’t correspond to God re beatings, sex abuses, banning our sign language.
What are they re rcc?? You ask yourself that very question???
It’s hypocrisy, double standards, lies, double lives, fooling us by their deception of double lives by living on a lie. They didnt do all of that at their height of unbridled power such as love, mercy, compassion when they were at very height of their unbridled power.
Rcc should stick to their religion full stop and don’t get involved in deaf education or politics or disabilities that they know nothing about.

I don’t know Fr Ger but I have witnessed first hand, on a number of occasions, especially where the funeral is a big one in terms of mourners, that the presiding cleric adopts a dominating and domineering persona – it’s as if he thinks it’s all about him – long introduction to the service, playing for laughs, insensitive to the mood of the congregation, eager to show he’s up for the craic and down with the kids, long wandering sermon, bossy delegation, and struggles to delegate, and just when your hoping and praying you’ve seen the last of him he’s at it again by the graveside, having the craic with the holy water blessing, chatting and gossiping, no sense of the grief or sense of loss of the mourners. He clearly thinks he’s brilliant at what he does and appears to literally have trouble stopping talking. If he had a t-shirt it would say, It’s All About Me Isn’t It?
One cleric at the graveside said to the mourners in a loud and insensitive voice, ‘I can’t hang around to chat with you I’ve got a v important meeting with the Bishop.’ As if anybody gave a shite.
Maybe some clergy see themselves as performers, there to put on a show and pick up their fee.
They are definitely getting some kind of fix or high but to be honest the vibe they give off is of being emotionally and spiritually out of their depth and ill equipped to conduct such an important life/death event.

Churches have to move with the times and the new microphones are a piece at the side of the Priests mouth so it is called technology and the Church has to embrace it.
Never did the Church ever think it would need CCTV but now it is a necessity to protect the Clergy and Staff and also the parishioners as people steal their bags and assault them.
Plasma screens instead of hymn books.
I take it you do not have a mobile fone again 99% of the clergy have mobile fones.
