According to a Kerry clergy source, the bishop, Ray “Affidavit” Browne is NOT going to ordain senior seminarian Mark Moriarty but is failing to be honest with the seminarian?
According to the same source, Moriarty is living alone in the rural presbytery of Kilcummin and Browne has told priests not to visit him?
Moriarty is a close friend of Fr Sean “King Puck” Jones – now a curate in Tralee.
Apparently they wined and dined together regularly is the Bistro 53 restaurant in Maynooth along with former priest Chris Derwin.
The Kerry clergy contend that Browne ordained Jones to spite me and this blog and made Jones sign an affidavit that what was said about him on the blog was not true and that it was not him in the jock pic.
Kerry clergy make it very clear that they are exasperated with Browne and his autistic personality and lanent that they are stuck with him for another 11 years.
Is Browne messing around with Mark Moriarty’s life and future?

So Bishop Browne has an “autistic personality”? Good. We need more autistics ordained to the RC priesthood. The clericalist interpretation of the priesthood, especially in seminary formation, has filtered in favour of loud-mouthed, high-profile, socially slick, dissimulating and hypocritical personalities -and these are traits common among paedophiles and abusers. Autistic parish priests would be more likely preach the deposit of faith exactly as it is, and tell mentally disturbed parishioners that (for example) their attitude to coloured people and travellers is more likely to send them to hell than any dirty thoughts that they may be having. Of course they would be absolutely hopeless at the social whirl of “parish visiting”, sucking up to those subscribing to the clericalist delusion that the only important relationships in a parish community are between the individual parishioners and the priest. And that itself would be a good thing, too.

If Browne has decided that this Moriarty chap is not suitable for ordination, then he needs to be crystal clear with him and make arrangements for him to move out of church property and live his life in the world. Leaving him hanging by some thread is not good for Moriarty or for the diocese. I suspect Browne is like lots of bishops who just don’t have the guts to be ruthless when required. Often being clear cut and ruthless can be the kindest thing in the long term for all. Browne probably wants to be loved by everybody and so won’t make a firm and definite decision. Anyhow, Moriarty will be better off doing something else, even though he may not realise it now. But, in the long term he will be grateful for having not gone on to ordination and a life that is increasing untenable and is becoming a laughing stock in our country, You see a priest, and what do you think…..?!

+Pat, you have excelled yourself today in referring His Excellency, the Bishop of Kerry, as Ray “Affidavit” Browne. How I laughed when I read that sentence. I do not normally look at your blog, however, the link to this posting was sent to me by another Kerry priest. Yes, it is true that seminarian Mark Moriarty and his future status within the diocese seems to be in abeyance, but as he is now featuring on this blog virtually guarantees he will be fast-tracked to diaconate ordination just like Fr Jones was to the priesthood.
There is no doubt in my mind that Bishop Browne ordained Fr Jones to the priesthood to spite you + Pat. The issue of the affidavit sworn by Jones is interesting. Until recently I was not aware that he had sworn such a statement. But when I asked around it appears to be true and it was not denied by a priest in Browne’s inner circle. The effeminacy of Jones is noticeable. His complete absence in Tralee is also noticeable. He very rarely says mass publicly. The best of my knowledge he has done little public ministry and I appreciate we are still in the midst of the pandemic. He is conspicuous by his absence.
When the allegation concerning Jones appeared on this blog, the ordination of Jones should have been delayed. The allegation should have been investigated and a confidential memo circulated to the senior priests of the diocese. Now we have speculation about Jones that is corrosive to his status as a priest. It has brought negative consequences for us the priests of the Diocese of Kerry.
Bishop Browne has made Fr Jones’ ordination the cornerstone of loyalty. Acceptance of his decision-making in this matter has been elevated to the loyalty that a priest owes to his bishop. To question Ray’s judgement on this matter is taken as a personal insult. He sees it as a mark of deep disloyalty. Browne has a long memory he can be petty and vindictive but not in an obvious way.
The priests of Kerry are absolutely pulling their hair out due to Browne’s inability to make a decision about anything. On calls, we hear endless references to the weather, the pandemic, the farmers, but nothing of relevance. There are days I wonder what did we do to deserve him as our bishop? I rarely make predictions, but unless he ordains Mark Moriarty as a deacon and priest, when he comes to retire the only man that Bishop Browne will have ordained a priest for this diocese (at least) will be Fr Jones. It will be interesting to see if Fr Jones is still a priest of the Diocese of Kerry when our current Ordinary retires in 3,899 days. Time will tell.

When did bishops start using civil law to reinforce canon law? Here in England the bishops require you to swear an affidavit before a solicitor that you haven’t been married before if you want a church wedding. First time I have seen it used prior to ordination. The very idea of a dubium would make a normal bishop decide against it.

The current Archbishop of Dublin was 69 when appointed.
Arthur Roche is 71 so they could get 6 years out of him in Westminster as his job at the CDFDS is about to come to an end with a replacement due to be announced for Cardinal Sarah.
I do not think it will be Archbishop Longley that would be two in a row from Birmingham so I would say maybe Mason for Westminster but it is anyone’s guess.
Same in Glasgow that would be two from Paisley which again would be not the norm.
Glasgow is suppose to be priority as it is vacant then Westminster followed by Wales.

Tell the Westminster fairies to keep calm and carry on – they’ve got Elsie for another 3-5 years at least – no way will he miss out on the next Conclave and hand it over to Roche who is Toast.

Roche has been in a non-job for years; that dreadful translation has been a disaster. I was happy with the Paul VI Missal, but if we are going to fart about every few years, we’d have been better sticking to the Tridentine Rite. The Orthodox have at least got that right; only Protestants muck around with the Liturgy viz the Anglicans’ Series 1, 2 and 3; followed by various revisions and leaflets. In any case they all do what they like.
No way will Uncle Arthur go to Westminster. That diocese has been a travesty since the death of Heenan – though the same could be said of every other diocese, viz whatever happened to once mighty Liverpool?
The bare truth is that, as with Ireland and Scotland, the RCC is in meltdown, and there is absolutely no-one who can save it. Dear old Bunny in Birmingham is a lovely man, but the queens and ex-Anglicans ( is there a difference? ) will run rings round him and stitch up affairs to suit themselves.

The plan is to replace Cardinal Nichols however I do not think it will be Arthur Roche and whoever goes to Westminster will not be a Cardinal for at least six years unless Nichols kick the can
Conclave Nichols will still be eligible to go till he is 80 so that will be kool with him.
Ireland loses out in a conclave because Brady is over 80 and Scotland’s Cardinal has never been replaced since 2013 because of KOB.
And in Scotland is anyone was to get a Red berretta it would be Leo Cushley.

I have to correct you here. Archbishop Roche is based in Rome and is responsible for the translation of the liturgies into English. He is the FORMER Bishop of Leeds. You should not just believe all the gossip and speculation posted here. He may be in London (how he gets here is speculation) for consultations on on translations, episcopal appointments. We should not worry about such trivia.

He is not such thing responsible for translating the liturgical texts into English. Since Francis’ Magnum principium that responsibility rests with the bishops of the English-speaking world. The curia has lost its veto – and when you consider the rubbish translation we are now using, you can see why. It’s impossible to say those prayers in a way which will allow people to understand them – much less pray them.
