Sometime ago I had what we call in N. Ireland a “mixed marriage”.
It was not the marriage of a black person to a white person.
It was much worse in N. Ireland terms.
It was the marriage of a Roman Catholic woman to a divorced Protestant man who happened to be in the police.
The woman’s family – devout Catholics and and the staunch Republicans did everything in their power to stop the wedding.
They got the PP around to put pressure on the girl.
The woman’s parents threatened not to attend the wedding and banned all other family members from attending.
They threatened to cut the woman out of their wills.
They refused to give the woman the gift of money they had given to all their other children who had married.
They threatened to disrupt the wedding ceremony.
They said they would disown the woman and any children she might have.
They told her she would be banned from their funerals.
The fact that the groom had been abandoned by his wife and was faultless in the marriage break up was irrelevant to them.
He was a Protestant and a police man and that was worse than him being a mass murder.
They insisted that their Roman Catholic faith would not allow them to attend the wedding.
Their PP told them not to support an invalid marriage and a couple living in sin.
They could not ask themselves “What would Jesus do”?
They could not put their love for their daughter before the rules of a corrupt man-made religion.
They were brainwashed – and happy to be brainwashed.
This kind of thing shows you the fruits of organised religion and the prejudice and nastiness it brings.
Jesus reduced all God’s commandments to two – love your God and love your neighbour.
Why dont his followers do as he commands.

Judging by the LinkedIn information it appears the Laity paid for about 2 years of formation. They received 8 years ministry in return. Average return is 4 years. The return on investment on this Jeffery Steel chap equates to 28 years ministry had he arrived needing full training. On a pro rata basis this is not a bad return, and is particularly good in terms of people ordained in this millennium.

It would appear that Father Steele has joined a body known as the Reformed Episcopal Church, which broke away from the Protestant Episcopal Church of the USA (now simply “The Episcopal Church”) back in 1873. It broke away as a result of the perceived inroads of the Oxford Movement in U.S. Anglicanism.
If I am not mistaken, historically, the Reformed Episcopalians tended more towards a Reformed/Calvinistic take on Anglicanism More recently, some congregations of the REC have taken on some “High Church” trappings. It has also joined forces with ACNA (“Anglican Church in North America”), a larger body which (as I understand) has broader spectrum of churchmanship (modern evangelical to Anglo-Catholic).
This is an interesting choice for Father Steele, as it seems to synthesize elements from all of the traditions he’s belonged to: Reformed, official Anglican (C of E), and Roman Catholic. I wish him all the best.

Some people mistake what religion is and we see this mistake played out on this blog all the time.
It’s very common for example to think that belonging to the right religion makes you one of the good guys. This is of course not the case, and we see it in the pathology of thinking you are innocent and your church can do no wrong.
Some people think religion will fix their own personal issues.
But the pathology of this brand loyalty is easily fixed by doing what is actually right rather than wearing your brand name as if it was a substitute.
In this case I think the family clearly demonstrates that looking right in other people’s eyes is more important than their family. The young couple are better off without the family.

Jesus was merely summing up the ten commandments, not replacing them. Jesus exalted the ten commandments and gave new meaning to them. Jesus was showing us the CONTINUATION of God’s moral law found in the Old Testament and summing it up as a LAW OF LOVE, not replacing it.
The Pharisees were very meticulous about keeping the laws of God, ALL 613 of them. They lost sight of the true meaning of their relationship with God, which was love. The law just became this “thing they had to do” in order to be saved.
There must first be love in the heart before a person can, in the strength and by the grace of Christ, begin to keep the precepts of God’s law. Obedience without love is worthless, which is exactly what the Pharisees practiced. But where love is present, a person will automatically set out to order his life in harmony with the will of God as expressed in His commandments.
The ten commandments are summed up by saying the first four are to do with loving God and the last six are to do with loving each other. If we love God supremely and love each other as ourselves, then we will keep all Ten Commandments.

Where ever you look at especially Catholic countries such as Mexico and Ireland et all, you could see alcoholicism, big families, drugs, violence (NI, gangs wars) scouts, swimming scandals. They all have something in common that we don’t see in non Catholic countries.
Catholicism brand name is getting more toxic as we speak now cos cos of abuses, kids in dangerous places where Catholic clericalism rules the roost. This isn’t a very appealing prospect.
I rather see myself as a Christian than Catholic. I like Buddhism for their peacefulness. What’s more important is the relationship between a person and God without any need for the middleman.
Roman Catholicism is the middleman which interferes with our relationship with God cos a relationship between God and man or woman is sacred.
What’s interesting was that luther sought to remove that aspect of middleman relationship . Vatican didn’t like that.
Priest shagging women is ancient cos it isn’t new. Book by scally showed that in 1755, priest in Ireland had 2 sons with their housekeeper thus giving huge headaches to their bishops.
What was interesting is that some priests reported their own bishops to the English landlords or their governing class when England captured Ireland. Something that we don’t see nowadays re reporting bad bishops.
That post colonial aspect and its consequences was interesting at least.

It’s not only Catholics and Protestants who have these kinds of stand offs when it comes to mixed / intermarriage between different cultures, religions, races etc. It happens between Muslims, Sikhs and Hindus, and perhaps as much within each group depending on caste within that group, social standing etc. If you think that Catholics and Protestants can be picky about these things, then you would be amazed at how discriminatory, prejudicial and downright nasty these groups I have mentioned can be to each other over these matters. Of course, it is difficult to talk about, because as soon as you point out these internalcultural and religious discriminations within these groups, then you are accused of discrimination and prejudice yourself ! It was partly one of the reasons why abuse of young white girls by Pakistani origin men in many towns in the UK was not addressed by the police, even they knew about it, because they were afraid of being seen as targeting a particular ethnic group. So, they let the abuse continue. Sod the young girls who were being abused, it seemed.

Indeed. In London I knew a young woman of Greek Cypriot community background who wanted to get engaged to a man of Turkish Cypriot background. Imagine the potential for bad blood there. They broke up because of the mutual hostility by their families.

Today blog is a prime example that religion causes division, wars, hatred, toxic environments.
That PP shouldn’t be advising that Catholic family once he gets involved in family business. Cos it’s not going to end well if it goes too far.
In my time as a boarder in deaf school, it was well over 200 deaf boys of all religious identities such as protestant, morman, few weird Christians, rich and poor families.
We as deaf boarders don’t see their religious labels as we see them as human being first. We never discussed religion knowing that it would cause intense religious discussions which would veer off to causing verbal wars and heated discussions. During the troubles, we visited our protestant friends as we knew its best not to label them as such. We communicated via sign language as we supported each other.
Once we or you discarded our religious bias and prejudices or leave it to the sidelines for time being, then peace would exist with shared hopes and common interests.
Sometimes extremism in Catholic and protestants views in NI isn’t very healthy it only cause division and hatred and also a huge divide among ourselves.

Christianity, Protestantism, Roman Catholicism, Evangelicals. These are not the problem. Western Europe is increasingly secular. People make up their own minds. They might retain some cultural aspects of their religious history / background, but they are not majorly informed by it any more. Other values are at the forefront of their minds + Martin of Armagh seems to have finally realised this. The divisions and strife of religion will come from the various religious and ethnic groups that are mentioned by @ 0557. That’s where the trouble is brewing, both between these groups themselves, and particularly with crusading and proselytising Muslim groups that have a desire to create Muslim societies from the countries in to which they have recently moved. Sadly, there is going to be problematic strife if it continues as it seems to be at the moment. Live and let live is fast going out of the door. Sadly. The reality of separation, which in part is the choice of many immigrant, particularly Muslim, groups and the failing of policy on the part of governments, compounds the problem and creates a sense of otherness. That needs to be solved somehow, if the future is to be harmonious and peaceful.

I have some sympathy for her, having yesterday read reports of how media hacks focus on the personal matters of certain sports celebrities. It’s almost “anything goes” in the search for an angle or scoop, and some, perhaps like this talented young woman, find the almost aggressive intrusive nature of media attention just too much.

Seamus there are several points here.
Firstly you refer to the 10 commandments which have been abrogated for Christians by the golden rule.
Secondly the commandment in Hebrew means ‘don’t murder’.
Thirdly you will see that in Exodus 21:22-25 if a pregnant woman is injured in battle there is only considered injury to the woman. There is no punishment for any damage to the foetus even if it is miscarried. Therefore in the law you quote at me a foetus is not a person (interestingly this is the biblical position that conservative evangelicals rightly took until recently).
So if you quote a law at me, I suggest you make sure you know what it’s talking about because even if you accept the law of the Hebrew bible it does not blanket forbid killing and does not consider killing a foetus capable of being murdered.
To answer your actual question, it was written by one of the scribes. I expect you would think God wrote it, and if so he thinks you’re wrong.

Being able to rest, peacefully and at ease, knowing you are the aggrieved — and that all the evidence and facts prove so is also a great reassurance.
Oh, one caveat: the Investigator must be of sound and moral character; he or she, must not be motivated financial gain; he or she, must not be a “member” of an exclusive “club” — like the Freemasons, for example.
He or she, must be totally unbiased in their approach, including affiliations, to any, and all, individuals– however remotely or closely connected these may be… whether this be ecumenically: religious affiliation; political, or “Well Inn” with the local civil / crimibal authorities!
The accused person, or persons: be that perpetrators — including bodies or organisations on “both sides” must be treated with the same respect and dignity which is afforded to every human being!
No “special treatments” for the side who are paying the fees; and no running commentaries and updates / prejudices given to any persons, bodies or organisations.
The damage, affects and effects of abuse, does not only hurt and destroy victims and survivors — it can ruin and destroy families, colleagues, and be devestating for all involved; it can cause communities to lose trust in those who are there to protect the most vulnerable in our society: even more so if those charged with protecting the most vulnerable “turn a blind eye”, or ignore the cries and pleas for help from victims and survivors.
And if those charged with protecting the most vulnerable are actively protecting, and / or facilitating perpetrators in their abuse — even more horrific: if those charged with protecting the most vulnerable are complicit and allow perpetrators to abuse and subjegate their victims, survivors, as their own “play things” without any intervention.
Well, it is not a very pleasant situation for the victim or victims.
There can be NO place in our society, save prison, for those who choose to purposefully hurt or damage our children or vulnerable adults x

Remember, civil court can imprison somebody – find them “guilty” to the criminal standard and then send them to prison, straight from the civil court.

Why get tied down in paper work just walk away.
They do not send the excommunications by email or letter you are just ignored.
Write in or email a dioceses and you will likely get a reply NOTED.
And even at that if your family wished you would still get a RCC Funeral as they refuse no one it is a corporal work of mercy.
So make sure your family know you want nothing to do with the RCC.
However we are still simply the Best 🙂

Excommunication is meaningless, more like a scare tactics to keep in our toes. Rcc is the only religious organisation in the world that issue excommunication. I remember the first time when I heard that exact term when I was in school history class. It was about Henry 8th and Martin luther as well.

This is actually very interesting. Mainly because the majority of these things are about holy orders or the papacy and thus show underlying values.
Deaf guy – the point about funerals is a good one. Everyone should make a will anyway, and by including your wishes for your funeral you make it binding on family.

Does the fact, Albert Kirby, the retired senior Merseyside Police officer is a practicing CofE in LIverpool Anglican Diocese have any bearing on the issues, past or currently unfolding?
Mr Kirby’s “independent report” absolutely tore the ex Roman seminarian vulnerable adult into pieces- and without even a shed of evidence.
Apparently, every solicitor in LIverpool, including even the Liverpool Law Society itself which the abused ex seminarian approached, would not even entertain him- even after he produced unbiebevle amounts of evidence in substantiation of the abuses!
