Three Down and Connor parish priests refused to pray with couple over the loss of their ten year old pet cat.
Yesterday I prayed over the telephone with the couple as they sat at their kitchen table with the ashes of Sooty.
And yet we hear peoole like pope Francis and bishops droning on about nature and the enviornment being intimately connected with God?
As Christians and Catholics we believe that God is the creator of EVERYTHING.
And that means God created Sooty.
We know from Jesus’ direct teaching that not one bird falls out of the sky without God KNOWING and CARING.
And that means that God knew about and cared about the death of Sooty.
Isn’t it very sad that God’s supposed disciples dont care about these things and dont care either about the grief that comes upon humans with the loss of a beloved pet?
I am a dog man and in recent years I list my Doberman, Nero and my Jack Russells, Sheba and Scrapper.
Their loss caused me great sorrow and grief.
Personally, I believe every living creature has a “soul” – a spark of the Divine – and as such all those creatures will be in Paradise.
I have absolutely no problem with conducting a Christian service at the death of an animal with particular reference to the comforting of their human stewards.
If God cares over a sparrow falling out of the sky, why should I, as a priest, not care, and seek to comfort human beings at the loss of their loving and loyal pets.
ABBOT PURCELL CASE
Readers may have thought that the Abbot Purcell case had gone away?
Nothing could be further from the truth.
It has been making its way through THE VERY SLOW PROCESSES IN ROME.
Yesterday I swore a 10-page affidavit in the case and it’s already gone to Rome.
I will keep readers updated. But don’t expect swift news.
Copies of the affidavit were sent to the Irish bishops in time for their June meeting at Maynooth beginning tomorrow, June 14 th 2021.
