ANOTHER PROMINENT GRINDR PRIEST HITS THE DUST.

One of the highest ranking priests in the USA, Monsignor Jeffrey Burrill has resigned as general secretary to the US Catholic Bishops Conference after admitting using the gay hook up app GRINDR to find men for sex.

Burrill used the app in cities all over the US to meet men for sex while on bishop’s conference business.

BISHOPS STATEMENTS

In a brief statement released later in the day by its Office of Public Affairs, the USCCB, like Archbishop Gomez in his memo, said it had received “impending media reports alleging possible improper behavior” by Msgr. Burrill and that the priest had resigned, effective immediately, “to avoid becoming a distraction” to the conference’s operations and ongoing work.

“The conference takes all allegations of misconduct seriously and will pursue all appropriate steps to address them,” the statement said.

“I ask for your prayers for Monsignor, and for the conference staff during this difficult time,” Archbishop Gomez said. “We also pray that all those affected might find strength and comfort in our merciful Lord.”

A priest of the Diocese of La Crosse, Wisconsin, Msgr. Burrill was named general secretary after the result of voting by the bishops that was announced the first day of the USCCB’s annual fall general assembly. He had been the conference’s associate general secretary since March 1, 2016.

The Diocese of La Crosse issued a statement saying Bishop William P. Callahan and diocesan representatives “are saddened to hear the media reports related to Msgr. Burrill. The Diocese of La Crosse pledges its full cooperation with the conference of Catholic bishops to pursue all appropriate steps in investigating and addressing the situation.”

“Please remember Msgr. Burrill and all affected in your prayers so they may find refuge and strength in God’s unfailing love,” it added.

PAT SAYS:

Im truly amazed that after all the exposure of priests looking gay sex on Grindr, many priests, all over the world, are still using Grindr on a daily or nightly basis.

This guy, Burrill is a “big fish”.

Very many of the secretaries of the bishop’s conferences go on to be bishops and archbishops.

Im sure this would have been the career path for Burrill.

He has now being shot down in flames as a result of these allegations.

Very often these chaps are brought down by men they have met who have been left with some resentment or hurt.

“Hell hath no fury by a gay scorned”.

There is also the question of massive hypocrisy. People like Burrill represent and uphold the RCCs anti gay teachings and yet think they can dabble on the side themselves.

BURRILL WANTED TO BAN JOE BIDEN FROM RECEIVING HOLY COMMUNION.

But was meeting multiple guys for gay sex at the same time.

Massive hypocrisy.

I WONDER IF THERE IS A MC CARRICK CONBECTION TO ALL THIS?

HUMOUR

Ruthie from Wexford the small town gossip and self-appointed monitor of church morals, was always one to stick her nose into other people’s business. Most members of the congregation did not approve of her intrusions, but she was feared, so all maintained their silence.

She took that fatal step too far one day, when she accused Paddy, a new member, of being an alcoholic after she saw his old pickup parked in front of the small town’s only bar all afternoon. She emphatically told Paddy (in front of several others) that EVERYONE SEEING THAT PICKUP THERE WOULD KNOW WHAT HE WAS DOING!

Paddy, a man of few words, stared at her for a moment then just turned and walked away. He didn’t explain, defend, or deny. He said nothing.

Later that evening, Paddy quietly parked his pickup in front of Ruthie’s house from Wexford , walked home ….and left it there all night!!

Thinking about yesterday’s article about Gay Masses. Does it count if the priest saying the mass is Gay? If so, the number of Gay masses in the Catholic Church is significant. The hypocrisy of the clergy during the marriage equality referendum in the republic was stunning. Clergy who were preaching against giving equality to their fellow citizens were then heading into the Boiler House Gay Sauna! The true church is rotten due to lack of truth and honestly. Good people living as their true selves are castigated by hypocrites. Archbishops, Bishops, Abbots etc are living double lives. People need to wake up to this rot. Reform is the only option.

Mgr Birrill was not a devotee of the Mass of Ages.

The ill-informed person who yesterday claimed that there must be liturgical uniformity, would do well to read this explanation by the Archbishop of Sydney, who is the latest high profile prelate to kick Bergoglio’s cruel instruction into the long grass.

Like

There’s no such thing as the ‘Mass of Ages (sic)’.

The missal of Pope Saint Pius V codified existing elements. If it hadn’t been for the Protestant reformation with its emphasis on the vernacular, it’s most unlikely that missal would have remained unchanged for as long as it did and highly likely that the vernacular would have been introduced centuries ago. Latin is a legitimate option today.

All the world faiths have liturgical language, eg church Slavonic, Hebrew. Only the Prods went vernacular, until we joined in, with very mixed results.

Must be many a priest sweating with the relative ease to track their usage of Grindr and identify them. It was owned by Chinese interests but Trump made them sell up if they were to continue operating in the US because of this security risk. I.e. many compromised US politicians and Officials. So easy to scroll over reams of legal text and click OK without realising you are consenting to them selling all of your personal data. Didn’t they get into trouble for selling the HIV status of users? I think this is just the tip of the iceberg and that over the coming months we will see more uncomfortable revelations. I bet the seminarians at Oscott and Maynooth are hurriedly deleting the app from their phones today. I am afraid clerics will have to go back to getting their kicks at cottages, truck stops and the boiler house…

But hey seriously a senior priest uses Grindr – who knew?

Yes, this is a mighty beast that has been brought down. The hypocrisy of this man is staggering – being the mouthpiece and functionary of a bishops’ conference that is overwhelmingly moralistic, judgemental and condemnatory of others, and yet whilst doing this and facilitating this, he is leading a double, parallel and duplicitous life. I am very content that he has been caught out, and even though it is going to be painful for him, it is just and right that he has been brought down. Of course, the usual process will happen – he will disappear for a while, will go off for re-education and sabbatical, then quietly reappear, appearing to be holier than thou and a prodigal son returned home, but in reality will carry on just more cautiously and carefully as he did in the past. It would be best for all if he just accepted his sexuality and went on to a new life. That’s what would happen in any other walk of life when you so brazenly break the promises, rules and regulations that you have freely signed up for.

In 2018, the priest was a member of the USCCB’s executive staff and charged with oversight of the conference’s pastoral departments. He and several senior USCCB officials met with Pope Francis Oct. 8, 2018, to discuss how the conference was responding to ecclesiastical scandals related to sexual misconduct, duplicity, and clerical cover-ups.

Burrill, then second-in-command at the conference, is widely reported to have played a central role in coordinating conference and diocesan responses to the scandals, and coordinating between the conference and the Vatican.

Data app signals suggest he was at the same time engaged in serial and illicit sexual activity.

On June 20, 2018, the day the McCarrick revelations became public, the mobile device correlated to Burrill emitted hookup app signals at the USCCB staff residence, and from a street in a residential Washington neighborhood. He traveled to Las Vegas shortly thereafter, data records show.

On June 22, the mobile device correlated to Burrill emitted signals from Entourage, which bills itself as Las Vegas’ “gay bathhouse.”

Everything else can be purchased, including locations, chats, photos etc. Presumably ‘The Pillar’ or one of its wealthy readers have purchased the data.

Superb investigative journalism by the Pillar – some will scream Tabloid journalism, invasion of privacy, trial by media and mere innuendo – whereas I would argue, public office invites scrutiny and accountability – look regardless of his careerist aspirations we can all agree he wasn’t a happy man – he’s a promiscuous homosexual in a position of moral and ethical leadership- no doubt the hypocrisy is part of the frisson but ultimately this kind of double life will crash and burn and it did.
Question is – will it be an opportunity for RCC to examine itself, address the homosexualization of the priesthood or even the very priesthood itself- nah, no way,, he’s one among many and will be replaced by the same type – it’s an ever ending cycle of hypocrisy and homosexuality and it’s been part of the RCC priesthood for almost two millennia.
The Golden Rule is: Don’t Get Caught – he did and so Game over for him but a deep well of hypocrites lining up to take his place.
Oh and you can’t tell me the prelates who appointed him didn’t know of his proclivities – of course they did, that’s why he got the job.
Oh and by way of footnote – he can be a promiscuous homosexual all day long as far as I’m concerned but not a Catholic priest at the same time. Or can he?

Like

It has nothing to do with covering up. Yes the priest should not have been on it but there is a winder issue about personal privacy. The fact a private company can buy your private information and then use that information against you is a worrying problem.
For instance, a country which bans homosexuality could use this information to expose, imprison and kill gay people.
Another example is that these private companies could expose all the people who use and comment on this blog.

You are misrepresenting James Martin. He categorically did not say that priests should be free to use apps like Grindr, but that they should be free from such personal scrutiny. The two are not the same.

And what evidence have you that he is gay? And what matter it if he is? Your usage here of the word ‘Gay’ is not descriptive; it’s a slur.

James Martin is misrepresenting the Church’s teaching. Homosexuality is evil.

It’s a disordered lifestyle and the reason our world has become so feminine, in my opinion.

One thing jumped out at me ‘free from personal scrutiny’. That indicates he’s hiding something and do not wish to be scrutinied as same as others priests. Any priest is a public figure cos working for the parish, he preached from thr pulpits, get involved in gaa. That isn’t representative to other countries depending on culture, tradition of other countries. Its an indication of their power. But lot of power in USA where its more highly profiled and contested. They are on a pedestal there.

I would say that priest’s, cardinal or bishops whose double lives leads to scrutiny. Just like PF decisions on Fr Grassi would lead to more scrutinies outside cos its wrong morally and ethically as well.

In other words, he wants us to stop investigating the cover ups (aka double lives). I should be more clearer in my previous post. He doesn’t want us to scrutise him or any priest or cardinal or bishops for fear of being exposed.

The problem was that he’s a public figure so were many priests out there except for those in closeted monasteries.

DG, are you old enough to remember the film Victim, with Dirk Bogarde? Personally, I wasn’t around at the time, but I recently watched the film on YouTube.
Bogarde plays a homosexual barrister when homosexual acts in the entire UK , and the Republic of Ireland, were illegal, and punishable with imprisonment.
In a nutshell, the plot concerns a woman and a man, not a couple, who first discover, and then blackmail, men committing these acts. Bogarde as the barrister, even though married, is finally discovered outed as homosexual, followed by an attempt to blackmail him; it eventually fails. In the end, the blackmailers are arrested for their crimes.
The law declaring homosexual acts illegal were sometimes called ‘the blackmailer’s charter’. I fear that the selling of personal internet data on gay men will be used in the same, highly public way, and may even drive some of them to suicide.
Where there is hypocrisy, then I suppose this kind of exposure may be warranted. But if the human cost is a person’s suicide, I believe that a cost too great.
If hypocrisy becomes a capital offence, then everyone who lives, or ever lived, deserves to die.
How are you with that?

Hume used to taunt; no priests no Eucharist – fine no Eucharist – we will survive -I’d rather no Eucharist than be beholden to some old viscous queen or young faggot who just wants to dress up in lace and lecture us in a shrill effeminate voice.

It’s a right laugh when you see vocations video, in which priests and sems are asked about renouncing marriage. They pull a sad face and come out with some pious nonsense about missing out, even though they has as much interest as the man on the moon.

What a farce.

The scandal of the Grindr Monsignor is bringing up more information that appears extremely interesting. The organisation that procured the data maintains that the data is perfectly legal and free to buy, as Grindr actually sells it to everyone interested (normally, I suppose, for marketing purposes). It would also appear that they already have information about many more prelates.

Are we expected to believe that bishops in the USCCB didn’t know about Mgr Grindr’s activities? The app must ping like mad during USCCB meetings.

Like

6.18: Obviously your app must “ping” frequently too but you’re wiser than the Monsignor…you turn to silent! Isn’t that right, pervy?

Nobody seems to have asked why you need to have priests as General Secretaries of episcopal conferences. Clogher diocese seems to have priests to spare because it can afford to have Joe McGuinness doing the Gen Sec job for the Irish bishops.

Why can’t a lay person do it, instead of having a desk priest?

Like

It’s surely a big administrative job, in charge of a huge budget and which needs a highflyer from the business world to do it properly.

Mgr Grindr seems to have been a seminary formator and lecturer, so the only thing that qualified him was that he was a priest.

Ultimately, the bishops don’t trust lay people, so they won’t give them a sensitive job. A priest is also easier to threaten, control and punish.

Because, typically, the clergy see themselves solely as the church, no matter what Vat II documents, and others, say to the contrary.

Couple this with the perennial clerical snobbery that the laity are not educated like priests and the paranoia that they are, therefore, not to be trusted, and it doesn’t take an inordinate intellectual effort to understand why these conferences will not have a lay person about the place.

The laity’s place, in clerical minds, is to fulfill that traditional and patronising function: ‘pray, pay, and obey’. Sadly, some of these (though an ever-decreasing few, it has to be said) continue to toe this self-humiliating and self-denigrating line.

8.20: Magna, where have you been for the last 40 years or more? The world and Catholics have long since moved away from that nonsense. Most parishes I’ve worked in have had well represented, intelligent, gifted, capable and imaginative people involved in parish/faith formation, pastoral care and meaningful roles in their Parish. You spend too much time on your laptop or in the thickened forest of your mind that you miss the beautiful fruits of genuine shared pastoral responsibilities in many parishes. You are welcome to our Parish to witness the fruits of such vision. How sad you live in the 40’s!! Move beyond your biased crap. Though difficult since you were not allowed to be ordained, try to be more with modern parishes, Marge! Thank God for really wonderful parishioners and clergy working in real partnership.

The kind and friendly face of the RC junta.
If your experience is true you have been very fortunate indeed. Well within the past 30 to 40 years I have known parishes run by Father as little empires.
You will note however that what Magna says is actually about what the priest thinks and ther have been repeated discussions on here where we have let priests know that the only reason their parishes are such welcoming places with shared responsibility is that the priest has chosen to make it so.

6.15: Like you Pat, you never married properly. You are in a relationship of love but not sacramentally – am I right or wrong? However, you are in a stable relationship which keeps you from searching around.

Is it true than in the Republic of Ireland now that marriage is accessible to all it’s no longer possible to contract a civil partnership?

Like

Bravo. The republic has got that right. It should only be single, married, or divorced on, for example, employment applications, etc.

All The Pillar need do is search the Grindr dataset, using the location coordinates of chanceries, palaces, seminaries, and then when they have identified IPs of people there, they can see where they go and whom they are contacting. For example, a search of the dataset using the location coordinates of the USCCB meeting might produce a lot of info.
Alternatively they can get IP addresses from their address book and search the dataset.
Lastly, state agencies and private detectives can search and find.

Pillar, according to a tweet, is just ‘a two man outlet’. So I’ll repeat the question asked in the tweet: how can Pillar afford to purchase internet cellphone data? Either the information is ‘cheap as chips’, which I doubt, or they have wealthy backers.

Methinks there is a conspiracy here. A new tack in the American culture wars. It is going to get dirtier still, and lives are going to be sacrificed to satisfy certain people’s zeal.

Put away your popcorn. There is no honour in this.

I suspect that The Pillar will be inputting Uncle Ted’s beach house into the database to see who his episcopal houseguests were.

Even if it cost The Pillar a bit of money to get the database, it’s gained them a lot of publicity.

The timing is exquisite. The Pillar is saying, “Look, Francis thinks the biggest problem to tackle is devout Latin Mass goers” but the real issues are typified by the USCCB GS travelling all over the place seeking Grindr hookups, and everybody knows that minors use it and he is also setting himself up as a blackmail risk.

Mgr Burrill wanted to have it all, and he did for a while, but the truth will set you free.

Like

This f***ing hypocrite Burrill has been working for an organisation and done the bidding of bishops who are obsessed with abortion, sex and homosexuality, and who have demonised and sidelined millions of Catholics who are trying to do their best, while at the same time engaging in pretty sad anonymous sex in saunas and probably other places. It is rank hypocrisy. We have another one of these in Ireland – Rawhide Purcell. What’s happening with him ? I have little or no sympathy for Burrill. He wanted it all. And he thought he would get away with it. Well, he can’t. Arrogant f***er. He deserves what is happening to him. Mind you, he will be looked after by the Church after their initial theatrical faux outrage. He is one of the club !

On the topic of yesterday, bishop’s need to sort it out. Complete double standards and they are turning a blind eye. There is absolutely the question of massive hypocrisy.
