SHOULD MONSIGNOR BURRILL HAVE BEEN OUTED AS GRINDR USER?

The darling of the clerical gay club, James Martin SJ,  has said that Mons Burrill’s privacy should not have been invaded by those who outed him as a very regular Grindr user.

I TOTALLY DISAGREE!

Burrill is the most senior and visible non-bishop RC cleric in the USA.

In his work and actions he represents the RCC in the USA and also represents RC teaching, doctrine and discipline.

He made a public vow of celibacy at his ordination and his work and mode of dress says: “I am an authentic representative of all things RC – including the current USCCB’s thoughts on President Biden as a practising RC being pro choice”.

In effect, the thought is that Biden is a public sinner for his stance on abortion and WE are considering banning this immoral man from receiving Holy Communion.

The fact that Burrill & Co are judging Biden like this begs the question of whether those calling him immoral are immoral hypocrites themselves and therefore not in a position to condemn Biden or anyone else.

We do not know who really was behind the digging into Burrill’s life and activities. Their motives may not have been pure. We simply dont know.

But we do know that they found him on Grindr seeking sex with men and tracked him to several places including a gay bathhouse.

Cubicles

You cannot be both a promoter and defender of RCC condemnation of homosexuality and at the same time be meeting men for sex all over the country and in orgiastic gay bathhouses!

Its a contradiction!

Its hypocrisy!

Burrill and others like him in the USA, Ireland and everywhere else, have to make their minds up.

You are either an authentic priest struggling to be faithful to your vows.

Or you leave the priesthood, with all its perks, and become a homosexual private citizen, who does not seek to be a high ground moralist, and enjoy all the gay sex you can, whenever you can and for as long as you want.

You cannot be the grey Father Hyde and the pink Mr Jekyll.

ANOTHER US PROBLEM

The bishop of the Diocese of Manchester has been named in a civil lawsuit that alleges sexual abuse of a minor in the 1980s in Deer Park, New York.According to the accusations made in the lawsuit, Bishop Peter Anthony Libasci sexually abused the alleged victim when the child was around 12 or 13 years old on “numerous occasions”.

Would ye look at the get up of him

150 replies on “SHOULD MONSIGNOR BURRILL HAVE BEEN OUTED AS GRINDR USER?”

The bastard’s first public act as Abp of Westminster was to say how brave paedos are to turn themselves in. Nothing is too harsh for him as some of the replies to that tweet show.
In fact it can only be a great sign of the times that people feel able publicly to call the Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster as useful as a chocolate teapot on his social media.

Well, it just shows Nichols is very thin skinned and reacts to criticism. “Read what I wrote”, he says. I’ve read it and it is a tortuous read, and essentially gives carte blanche to the EF brigade to continue as before after filling in a pro forma and sending it in. There is a sense that Nichols is making it possible for everybody to skirt around the MP of Francis. It’s an interesting contrast with Lang’s apparently total banning in Clifton. Is it because Nichols just has so many of the lace and frills EF traditionalists in his diocese (ex-Anglican clergy and rich laity) that he just cannot afford to piss them off ? I guarantee you that this will have been weighed very carefully, and Nichols will have come to his decision not on principle but on practicality, and particularly the financial and networking impact it could have. I doubt if much prayer was exercised over the decision, more like hard headed diocesan politics. That’s why it stinks and sticks in the craw. Nichols should reflect on the fact that so many people these days just do not trust him and his decisions and his rationale. He’s lost trust. Time for him to go. He’s right to be thin skinned. He better get used to it.

Interesting – I was wondering the exact opposite, whether he realizes he won’t be pope and doesn’t care so has chosen the way of least resistance. Your reading would certainly be characteristic of the old Vinnie we all loathe.

Like

@ 1112 – I’ve known Vin in both his dioceses over the years, and my assessment is that he does nothing without a thorough and clinical evaluation of its impact on him and the furtherance of his career. Now that he is over 75 and looks like hanging on for a few more years, he is unlikely to get a place in Rome, so it is in his interests to keep his eye on things in his own diocese and keep things sweet so that his last years there will be plain sailing. Pissing of the traddies and the EF crowd, most of whom are ex-Anglican, would not be good for him. So, I reckon the rationale behind this is purely selfish in the interests of making his life bearable for a few more years. Isn’t it odd, though, that we have to evaluate and unpick Vin’s motives for pretty much anything ? Well, that’s because he has long since taught us that we cannot trust what we see, and that he is always operating in his own interests, and anybody who does not fit his purposes is sidelined, overlooked, ignored or just treated with distain. That’s why we loathe him. True. Sad.

Yes I hope that this is the start of the great revelation which will unveil just how sick the RCC priesthood is. A doctor has to look at a wound before healing it. I for one would donate generously for Grindrs data set for Oscott and Maynooth. Those priests who have been leading a Grindr lifestyle ought to slope off now before their depravity is revealed.

No disrespect at all to you @ 1:10, but I’m minded to ask why God :
1) Doesn’t use present technology to clearly proclaim his/her wishes for all humankind.
2) Hasn’t used more technological means to clarify his wishes as opposed to the great mish mash of highly controversial quasi authentic new testament writings.
3) Doesn’t use modern technology to confirm and clarify his wishes to ALL humankind as opposed to the obvious bumblings of his alleged messagers, the RCC.
Just wondering…….?

Thinking more on this wondering business.
We’re told by the RCC that God loved us so much that he sent himself, in the form of his son, to earth 2000+ years ago to “redeem ” us from our sinful ways and show us how to “behave properly “, so to please him, and thereby attain Heaven. ( that in summary is the gist of it)
I’ve given up trying to understand why this alleged God “sat on his hands” doing nothing for at least 100 thousand years of humankind’s previous existence before this whole Jesus rescue mission 2000 years ago! And why the whole rescue mission wasn’t organised so as to be clearly, independently and irrefutibly recorded and documented, so everyone could understand and believe…. and even convince hard headed seekers of truthful evidence, ….like me?
Was this God careless, incompetent, ……or simply pissing us about with an eternal guessing game of choosing which of many competing truths to believe?
I’m a simple man, and seek to understand things that really ought to be straightforward if our “salvation ” was so important for this Godfellah to have “sacrificed” his son.
So why doesn’t this “Godfellah “, if he loves us so much, simply use modern technology to convey his paramount position and requirements? Why this ‘guessing game?’ Why this catch 22 business of ” having faith?”, ………in the incomprehensible, the,…well frankly the ridiculously unbelievable based on controversial gospel writings.
He’s had another 2000 years to think about it since that alleged Calvary episode. Meanwhile the alleged conveyer of this Godfellah’s mission, the RCC, has consistently shown itself to be corrupt and unreliable.
Has this Godfellah some problem getting his salvation act together? I mean like surely he doesn’t want to lose doubters like me to oul Nick if he wants us all to get into that heavenly place so we can all sing his praises ad infinitum?

Pat, are you an authentic priest living your vows? You made up your morals. Would Jesus approve of all your behaviour? Just curious. The ongoing revelations of double standards and hypocrisy is shattering whatever faith I have. These stories really challenge the core of my Catholic identity as a priest. The truth will eventually set us free but not without much pain and discomfort for the Church.

You can’t be a priest and have a ‘private life’ totally opposed to your vocation. I think priests should have private lives restricted to family friends and any hobbies.
Magna commented about the possibility of suicide and blackmail yesterday. The only difficulty I have is that the men who had to keep homosexual lives secret in the sixties did it because it was illegal and would have had repercussions such as loss of employment.
However a priest who keeps his sex life private is doing it because he knows that life is not part of the deal he has signed up for. In those circumstances – where secrecy is made necessary by your own misdemeanors- I think you can reasonably expect to get outed.
It is also clearly in the public interest to know the reality of the cesspit so they can stop giving money to it.

It’s interesting that NNN chose to demonstrate ignorance of relevant facts by referring to an untrained individual working in an unqualified position as a housemaster, and the “prominence, power and prestige ” referred to was derived not from any public portrayal of probity, but from his membership of the “loyal orders”, his lay preaching and highly dubious network of political and military acquaintances.
The behaviours referred to took place almost 50 years ago, at a time when social work organisations were mostly staffed by well meaning but untrained individuals as the profession only developed from the late ’60’s.
But then maybe none of that matters to the riders of hobby horses.

Is Anon 3:43 another commentator with scant regard for the facts and little apparent knowledge or interest in relevant issues? This comment replicates the tabloid press’s habitual “blame the social worker” facile response to these regrettable tragedies. Perhaps that’s what this commentator solely relies on for his/her information?
While I offer no excuses, it should be noted that the Baby P inquiry found incompetence in almost EVERY worker involved. The doctors, schools, lawyers, police, Gt Ormond St hospital, were also found to have been incompetent.

Sharon Shoesmith, director of Haringey’s Children’s Services had a professional background in teaching. She became the focus of media frenzy leading to her being summarily sacked. She later won a judicial review for unfair dismissal and reportedly £600,000 compensation and damages from the council.
More level headed knowledgeable commentators have described the whole saga as an extreme example of scapegoating social workers. And yet it continues.

The media, official inquiries, and TV programmes especially, invariably focus simplistically on single issues or individual cases. In child abuse cases, the prevailing impression given is that the worker has only had this or that single tragic case to deal with, along with the luxury of sufficient time to exercise professional consideration of all the conflicting issues, and of course the requisite resources to call upon, such as foster parents, residential placements etc.

The ignored reality is, that in most public services, understaffed grossly overworked individuals are invariably dealing with the conflicting demands of excessive workloads politically created by cumulative cutbacks, increased demand, and incessantly prescriptive legislative requirements. And the fallback resources of safe supportive alternative placements for children, just like current NHS beds are invariably unavailable.
I’m over 20 years retired and discuss these issues occasionally with younger family members currently working in public services. I don’t envy their task. They are well intentioned and committed to doing their best in what by times seems intolerable situations.
Those who ignorantly replicate the ill informed simplistic derision of the “gutter press” only serve to undermine and dishearten such committed individuals.

Was the obtaining of the data illegal?

Burrills hypocrisy trumps his right to privacy – public figures are fair game, especially blatantly hypocritical ones like him.

There is one glaring fact and reality that screams out in the Burrill affair: staggeringly outstanding hypocrisy. Forget the issues of privacy – actually, he lost the right to privacy by his actions in public places like gay saunas and bars where he was acting out his sexual proclivities and probably lying wholesale to those he had congress with (do you ever think he told them who he is ?). The real issue is hypocrisy. In no walk of life would such a disconnect between what he is publicly saying and what he is doing be accepted. Nobody trusts a hypocrite. So, for me the matter of Burrill himself is an open and shut case. What intrigues me more is just how much did those with whom he worked, lived, including bishops and priests, know about his hypocritical lifestyle – I am sure they did – and what did they do about it ? Anything ? I suspect not.
What is just as damaging as Burrill’s behaviour and hypocrisy is the collusion of the priest and bishop club in turning their eyes away from the dysfunctional and hypocritical behaviour that was being committed by one of their own. We have seen this before, haven’t we ? Especailly in the child sexual abuse scandal where for so many decades bishops and priests knew what was going on and just covered up for priests or just moved them along to pastures new where they could continue with their abuse. This business of Burrill, while finished for him personally, still has a long way to run in the way in which it will bring focus on to the collusion and coverup of the dysfunctional, hypocritical, sinful and damaging behaviour of clerics by other clerics.

The previous comment is correct that the directors all have a connection with the hierarchy. Let’s face it, bishops do not appoint on merit. Once you have a relation who is a mercy sister you are seen as grand. These directors are appointed because they will not upset anyone, will not question. Correct governance requires that directors question and challenge. Looking at the board of Towards Healing there will be very little questioning of practice, funding etc. The bishops appoint people who are quiet and slightly insecure. People who will do as asked. Anyone who suggests that a board put in place by the bishops will ask hard questions is not living in the real world. Governance in the Catholic Church is 50 years behind.

Whilst now claiming the comment was answering the question, the later part asserting that the person wouldn’t be familiar with the concept of appointing on merit…clearly they can offer no proof that the previous comments were incorrect. It’s unfortunate that people defend the bishops on reflex and not offer any proof or context.

There is an Armagh youngish priest constantly on grindr. He has a distinctive tattoo that he shows to very few. His profile pic is of his skinny torso. I have taken photos as proof.

Like

Yes happy to send. When I messaged him on grindr asking him if he was Fr …. his profile and pic was immediately deleted. If you have a tattoo then you are easily identified to the few (in this case) who know about it. It’s an imprint.

I know who you mean. The sneaky tatt. Do these guys get a thrill living dangerously? Only a matter of time this one.

Ageist, sexist, bitter and twisted comment. Let’s see a face pic so we can judge for ourselves how youthful, masculine and slender you are.

In Armagh, Séamus White is skinny, but it sure ain’t Séamus on Grindr. He’s one of God’s triers.

XXXX XXXXX is very thin but I do not think he has tattoo’s.
God help whoever it is Amy will have him out under Jude’s direction.
So here is the excuse to Amy My lordship I must have been at the gym or swimming when someone has taken my picture so I hope it matches Grindr and make him another LIAR.

He doesn’t show the tattoo in public but i have a pic of it. His bishop isn’t aware of it. Hard to identify.

Bishop P. What are your thoughts about plenary indulgence. My PP keeps banging on about them with nearly one every week being advertised.

Like

Interesting concept Indulgences. Question is how does one cash them in and how do we know God will honour the IOU. Subjective v Objective Reality How much do we really know

Plenary indulgences. What a laff! Had forgotten about them.
A bit like “Cash in your chips folks: it’s all right now!”
How much do they cost these days, …….by cash of course: no questions asked.

The Irish Charity Regulator need to examine Towards Healing. Their structures are not helping persons abused. I can speak from personal experience. The fact their board is full of clergy speaks volumes. They need an independent board. Separate from Maynooth. Appoint independent members and an independent board. Help people by funding an honest approach. Whilst the wolves are in charge the sheep will stay away.

Can I just say these have been the best two days in a long while. It’s delicious to see a fat auld hypocritical priest caught out. One minute pontificating about other people’s sex lives and then paying 40 bucks for anonymous butt sex in a gay sauna… then holding up the sacred host. LMFAO.

I think we’ll see a rush of diocesan priests becoming religious. As a diocesan priest you get kicked out for going on Grindr. But as a Cistercian you can be a convicted pedo and be novice master and do gay saunas as an abbot. In the benedictines you can get up to all sorts and still be Abbot.

Like

The Cistercians are excellent at pretending they are pious. Behind it all they betray and undermine. They have known for 15 years that Fr Richard Purcell has a penchant for visiting gay saunas and meeting men on gay dating apps. His confreres elected him Abbot of Roscrea twice and then to Mount Melleray. The Benedictines have a similar score card. They protect their own. This is how the Catholic Church runs. This is the reason they have such a horrid legacy. If you are not a cleric you are nothing. They abuse and they bury. They bully and defend. This is Catholic Church in Ireland in 2021. They ignore and lie. They have selected the rock to perish on. They worship money.

I forget his name but it was on this blog a week or two ago that the last Abbot appointed as novice master of Mount Melleray, a monk who already had a conviction.

It’s evil what Burrill has done. It is also evil to give abortion promoting Biden Holy Communion. The American Church is in disarray. It needs cleansing as does the Church everywhere. It will break too and soon about Burrill’s equivalents among the Irish clergy and hierarchy.

Brilliant and I love the bit where the diocese questioned the morality of the Pillar using the data to identify clergy houses where the apps had been done.
That’s like telling an abused child it’s a sin to blame the priest.
If the Pillar can get this data presumably anyone can and this is where the meltdown starts 🤣

It’s mainly the blobby clergy that have to resort to truck stops and glory holes for action… to be fair.

On the topic of yesterday, I agree that Burrill and others like him in the USA, Ireland and everywhere else, have to make their minds.
May all the good and honest clergy enjoy this retreat season! ☮️
