MY RECENT TRIP TO DUBLIN – A TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE.

I spent Monday and Tuesday in Dublin and it was a trip down memory lane.

Dublin makes me sad now because when I moved there in 1960 – 61 years ago at the age of 8, it was a big friendly town. Now its a big, concrete, unfriendly city 😪

Its summed up in this song:

DRAPIER GREEN

When we went to Dublin our house was worth £ 800. They now sell for € 450,000

Drapier Green

The housing area we lived in was honoured by having its streets called after JONATHAN SWIFT and his works. He wrote the “Drapier Letters”.

St Canice’s Christian Brothers PS.

After a very brief spell in a tiny local primary school locally I was sent to St. Canice’s run by the UNCHRISTIAN BROTHERS.

The brothers and teachers were fully signed up members of the National Union of Sadists.

I particularly remember Brother Coffey and the headmaster Brother Ahern for their sarcasm and beatings.

There was a Brother Jennings who was nice and kind.

SECONDARY EDUCATION

After an aborted attempt at RC secondary education, I ended up in the state run College of Commerce of Rathmined whete I did my Leaving Certificate.

I loved this school. No priests, brothers or nuns and, enlightened for the time, no corporal punishment.

If you worked they supported you.

If you didn’t they let you be.

I found the freedom and lack of fear very conducive to work. I did well there. It was also mixed religion, which was great.

College of Commerce, Rathmines.

MY LOCAL PARISH

My local parish was Mother of Divine Grace, Ballygal.

I was very impressed with our priests at the yime, Fr John Pierce PP and curates Fr Joe Collins and Fr Michael Lambe.

Joe Collins
Fr Lambe, left, Fr Collins.

Good, kind priests and never a whiff of wrongdoing or scandal.

OUR FIRST PARISH CHURCH – A TIN CHURCH.

Tin church 1964 on left. New one on right.

The tin church was important for me. Went to Mass there. Had my first Mass there. Had my Dad’s funeral there.

FAMILY GRAVE SUTTON

Visited the family grave on Tuesday – my mother Jo’s 15 th anniversary.

Also there my Dad Jim, my sisters Margaret and Sandra, my brother Seamus and my nephew Christopher.

My uncle, Peter Bracken, in adjoining grave.

THE DUBLIN GAY PRIEST COUPLES

I spotted two gay priest couples in Dublin – one couple in the restaurant we ate at and one at breakfast in Wynn’s Hotel.

Couples very interested in my presence.

I am told the Wynn’s couple were on Grindr half the night looking for a third man.

It seems that Ireland’s gay priest couples are, unashamedly out and about.

Michael Lambe was a Jerk. He did a lot of Damage in a Parish in Lucan. A lot of Parishoners did not like him.

Always love the biographical info, Pat.
Dublin is certainly much changed, not for the better, I feel.
I was amused that you stayed in Wynn’s Hotel. Why do priests and nuns love it so much? Even as a seminarian my best friend and I often took the 66 bus to Dublin on Sunday and sometimes had lunch in Wynn’s, where we’d try to guess which diners were priests or nuns in mufti.

Like

The gay priest couples must have got a quare gunk when they heard that you were about, Pat. They are probably checking the blog every five minutes.

Like

It sounds like the same priestly couple who always walked into restaurants as bold as brass when the elderly straight couple were there. Presumably, the other priestly couple shared a double room at the Wynn. All four are probably on Grindr as well.

Like

+Pat, I am a priest and my partner and I sat near you in the Italian restaurant on Monday evening. My partner is not a priest but a medic. We were interested to see you there and were struck by your relaxed manner and your humour. We are twelve years together and have never been on Grindr or see other people. He is a wonderful person and makes my life special. Like you, I do not like the promiscuous gay lifestyle of many of our fellow priests. Take care.

Pat can butter you up all he wants.
You should NOT be in the Priesthood your as bad as Ger Fitzgerald.
Do you NOT realise the cheat you are and make our Life had as hell to catch you and the double life Priests.
I better 100% your partner is dedicated to his Professional career you must see yours as a cabaret show fooling your Bishop and Parishioners
It is time to LEAVE the Priesthood as you have admitted your Love affair be sure as today follows tomorrow we follow up every fact as that is our Professional job
is it worth being a Liar and living a double life and it will become more difficult for you once Building the Future kicks in.
What a disgrace and you know and took the vow of Celibacy you are a con man NOT a Priest.
It will be so embarrassing when your job comes falling down as your partners patients would she how much a con man Medic he is as well in love with a Priest.

Like

I hesitate….but if this is you, Jim S. (Poor writing skills would suggest so.) go and take a running jump. Celibacy as a discipline iis not being received by the contemporary church (if it ever was). An item of church discipline requires reception by church members. If it doesn’t receive it, its days are numbered.

Fathers you enjoy the SALARY that you claim falsely and love the oh that is our priest little do they know the priest is a lier and in a relationship but I suppose it is better than the saunas or the parks.
These reprobates double standard clergy are destroying the Church and it is time for them to go.
As for the Medic I would not trust him to give me a paracetamol as he is encouraging his partner to lie and be deceitful and how he can say Holy Mass shocks me but then again when you have NO moral it because like a pantomime Oh yes he loves me oh no he does not as they are in a deceitful relationship.
They think Bishops are sleeping they certainly are NOT and many staff as well to assist them in getting shot of the deceitful Clergy.
To quote the Holy father it is better to have a smaller church than a deceitful and dishonest one.

Like

Not seeing anyone else? Give over! The fact that you are living a double life tells me that neither of you can be trusted or should trust each other.

Like

The Priest and the Medic are in denial and sadly it is the poor that is paying for this priest to wine and dine his lover.
You could not Trust the medic or the Priest and the Medic people would disown the Medic as it is unprofessional to say the least.
the Medic and the priest need to be open and transparent but the Priest will fall on his sword as the net gets shorter with rationalisation of parishes it will be easier and more simple to spot them and that is the hypocrites.

Yes everyone at Ara Coeli is annoyed about yesterday’s blog and rightly so however they are NOT mad about Pat they are angry that NO ONE from Dungannon has been in touch.

It would help if they could be people of principle and produce the details as Father Eamon McCamley is saying it is all victimisation towards him and NO truth in the matter.

Ok Aidan @ 10.53am. You have made your point. Get back and make the tea as the auld doll is parched.

Anyone who refers to a male in the terms you do has no place in a civilized conversation.

Church speak again. What you mean is that the church authorities know about the allegations but are CHOOSING to do nothing. Out here in the real world people can and do get disciplinaries because of activity on Facebook.
Interesting to see Miss McCamley is playing the usual cathbot script of victimisation.

Like

5.30: Your comment is utterly absurd. If the priest and medic are in a relationship of “love”, then we must believe there is a mutuality and equality of sharing. Your assumption that the “priest” is the dominant figure is pure conjecture on your part and psychological transference. You are probably jealous or just a nosey biddie. MYOB…Who are the poor you refer to? Why would the Medical Association disown this doctor? What f*****g century were you born? The 1800’s…Get a life.

Like

Pat, how can you possibly know that “the Wynn’s couple spent half the night on Grindr looking for a third man”. I’m not condoning their actions but how do you know that it’s factual?

Like

Because an American gay man we met in the bar on Monday told us about his night on Tuesday morning after breakfast.

You are all lucky you can wine and dine in Wynn’s however a lot of people in Dublin are dependant on Brother Kevin and his services (homeless not sexual)

And in the UK in 8 week people on Universal Credit is losing £20 a week it may not be a lot of money to those who wine and dine but it certainly is to the unfortunate people on Universal credit.

Independent surveys have said it will place more people into poverty.

But does the Priest and his Lover care certainly not and now they were on grindr.

I personally think the Church should bless gay Couple but I certainly dislike the hypocrite clergy.

You’re not familiar with an educated approach to reality.

The first thing that needs to be done to understand any simple phenomenon is to put it in its context. A fortiori when dealing with the complexities of the sexual abuse of children.

The reality is that fewer than 5% of clergy and religious abuse children sexually. The corollary: 95% of children who are sexually abused are abused by non-clerics/religious. Statistics tell us that a majority of abusers are known to their victims – so: fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers and cousins (and neighbours).

The very sad thing is that sexual abuse of children and vulnerable adults is not only a thing of the past but is happening here now.

As long as the skewed view of focussing on the 5% while ignoring the 95% continues, children and vulnerable adults will continue to be abused because the majority of perpetrators are out of the spotlight.

You wouldn’t find many clerk in gay bars these days as most prefer Grindr. Used to see loads of Salford and Liverpool clergy down Canal Street in Manchester in the 1990s. For years the C and S had been painted over giving a good idea of what the street was notorious. Now those clerics are well past it, fat, and rural deans and canons. How they must look back on what could’ve been.

Like

Hey, 12:07pm, I think you’ll find that Wynn’s Hotel is open to the public and anyone can stay there, including Pat.

If loved-up priestly couples want to avoid the risk of running into Pat they can stay in the double bedrooms of Maynooth, which are let out, no questions asked, to same sex and unmarried couples, even though the terms and conditions refer to them being in the heart of the seminary.

https://www.maynoothcampus.com/rooms/

Like

Pat, you should book a night in Maynooth for the craic. Stay in the Dublin, Cashel or Tuam suites.

Like

If you stay in the Dublin suite you can say you slept in the archbishop’s bed. It’s where Dermo was put up when he stayed in the college, with a similar set up for the other archbishops.
Unfortunately the superby appointed Armagh suite is never let out to paying guests. It’s next door to Fanny’s huge apartment and used to be Fr Peter Connolly’s old rooms.

Like

I doubt if Diarmuid ever stayed overnight.
His Grace of Cashel and Emly used to have Paddy Hannon vacate the Cashel suite during his stays there. Poor Paddy! Imagine having to get into bed where the archiepiscopal arse had lain the previous night.

Like

Why would Catholic clergy go to such a clerical haunt as Wynns for their secret gay rendezvous’? Is it a case of hiding in plain sight? I always use Premier Inns and Travelodge’s to hook up in. Far more anonymous. Also put Grindr on at 3am and you are usually guaranteed a knock on the door. Just like seminary days.

Like

Pat, you are perfectly entitled to stay at Wynns just like everyone else. I have fond memories of it as it was pretty central and the food was always good. Has it changed much I wonder?

Like

It is wonderfully central. But the one way driving system in Dublin is a driver’s nightmare. I only got to Wynns by going up a street reserved for buses and taxis and deliveries.

Like

I’m honestly mystified, Pat. What in your view, is different about these priest couples that apparently makes it ok and means they don’t get named and shamed?
Are you saying that in your view this is ok if they are in a relationship rather than a jack the lad? Even if they are on Grindr looking for a throuple?
To my mind these priests are just as much leading double lives as any of the willy wavers we’ve seen. Particularly it seems bizarre that the summer of love in Maynooth wouldn’t be ok but this is?

Like

You are quite right to challenge me.

The rule is that ALL priests are required to live celibate and chaste lives

I suppose it is a matter of “degree” – between a priest having a loving relationship with one partner and priests living promiscuous lives on the gay scene, saunas etc.

In one sense it is down to the priest’s conscience.

AND – whether or not he gets caught.

Like

Pat. I have just called the Archbishop of Dublin’s office and left the information about this couple at the hotel. CCTV will be seized and examined to confirm if required. The Priest should resign immediately and you will no doubt receive a letter to provide a witness statement, along with your fixed penalty for driving up a bus lane.

Hotels, Pubs, Bars and so on refuse to mention a guest which is their right also GDPR comes into place and even the Police can only get CCTV if they are investigating a crime.
What shocks me is how naive some people are as Dioceses use Private Investigators, retired Police to assist in any investigations and before you say entrapment we have been there before and really the priest normally resigns starting with a sabbatical.
The RCC does not want hypocritical clergy and that is a fact Proof and they are gone.

Wynns was handy for being central back in the days. It was also just opposite Veritas and not far from the Pro.

Like

It was also handy for the bus stop to Maynooth in Middle Abbey Street.

There used to be a clerical outfitters near Wynn’s, perhaps next door to the Pro. I remember going in and seeing a rack of the modern nun veils in various shades of black, grey and brown and thinking “I bet you don’t sell too many of them now”.

I’ve forgotten the name. It competed with Clery’s.

Those were more innocent times. I’d love to get them back.

Oh, please, 7:55. No, clearly, the Abbot has NOT been sufficiently humiliated, since he still stubbornly and arrogantly clings to power. If he were sufficiently humiliated, as in humility before God, he would resign and live a normal monastic life, in penance for his outrageous actions against his monastic vows and the moral teachings of his Church.
