I live in the Diocese of Lancaster and I believe it is in meltdown. The above poster is correct in saying that the only viable parish in Blackpool is the Sacred Heart. I have never had any dealings with Fr Billinngs but I have heard reports from other parishioners that he is arrogant and tells lies. I suspect that he is the person posting above. I would be very surprised if any priests are in tears over the comments on this blog. Unfortunately Fr Etienne seems to have been a bad match for the parish and the parishioners had a right to protest.

I know from family that Fr Daniel celebrated a lovely leavers Mass for St Cuthbert Year 6 a few weeks ago and encouraged all the children to come back to Mass.
I am a Parishioner of Sacred Heart although I do occasionally attend St Cuthbert’s as my late wife was buried from their by Canon Tim- a real gentleman and a kinder Priest you could not meet. My only encounter with Fr Daniel was on the day of my wife’s anniversary as I was last in the Church and I apologised for delaying him in locking up. He was very kind and seemed genuine when I explained why.

I think the rumours are true about further restrictions on the old mass. I have thought all along that the real purpose of TC was to see what the bishops would do with it and test the waters for possible schism. Not that Francis would be bothered if the tat brigade go to the SSPX – he has obviously wanted rid of them since day 1 and they have shot themselves in the foot. They could have celebrated the new rite in Latin but attached their flag elsewhere.
Obviously promotion among the bishops will depend on what they have done in response to TC.

The blog is becoming increasingly boringly concerned with clerical sexual habits, real or supposed, and, I suspect, a source of ridicule: not so much on the clerics, but its preoccupation. The unceasing innuendo regularly comes across as intentionally titillating. That applies to the blog itself. It seems to arouse some of the commentators. Attempts at reasonable discussion tend to be marginal.
Aprox 5/6 years ago the blog went from every 2/3 days to daily. The level of matters raised, and subsequent comments was much superior. With an apparent current need to blog daily, the overall levels have increasingly become mundane: to me at least, whether you agree or not.

Arthur Roche is not to be underestimated. He wants the Latin Mass gone. As a former Leeds Sem Arthur could be quite kind and would listen. I heard a Sister of Mercy in Ireland say that the nuns were the only part of the Church to fully implement Vatican II. A couple of years later her convent closed and its contents were auctioned off and the few remaining ambulant nuns moved into a semi-detached. I think her assessment was correct.

All the Blackpool parishes should be merged into one, with the priests living at Sacred Heart, when Canon Robert retires or steps down from PP. Two or three church buildings could remain open for Sunday and/or weekday Mass. Similar has happened in Nottingham Diocese and elsewhere. What are the odds on Bishop Paul replacing Elsie? And Danny Boy as his Private Secretary?

I went to Blackpool once. It was like walking through a Hieronymus Bosch painting. Hoardes of topless blokes hung out of pub windows, yelling, drooling, puking, pissed.
Out on the streets there was shouting, fighting, bum-showing and bottle throwing – and that was just the ladies on hen-dos. Their male counterparts were mainly passed out in their own bodily fluids – even though it was only three o’clock in the afternoon. I wouldn’t have been surprised to see imps with pitchforks come along and start loading them onto carts… But what I actually saw was a woman wearing “L” plates trying to touch a donkey’s privates.
It was then that I decided to go home.
God obviously can’t see Blackpool. If he could, he’d burn it.

@6.30pm Arnold may well replace Elsie. At 68 he would be the same age as Cormac when he was appointed. He has nailed his colours to climate change and the green agenda with his Laudato Si initiative.
