Yesterday, August 27th, the Down and Connor priest, John J Murray was convicted of abusing two 10-year-old girls in the1980s.
Some years ago Murray fled to Spain to avoid being questioned by the police.

Every day in Spain he golfed, wined and dined while his victims languished at home in deep emotional pain thinking they might never get justice.
I’ve known Murray for over 40 years and regard him as one of the most vile men ever ordained to the prirsthood.
He has been a user of women for as long as I have known him and his conviction this week, while better late than never, is decades overdue.
He has been protected by several cynical Down and Connor clergy for years.
In fairness to the current bishop, Noel Treanor, he went one day a few years ago to Murray’s parish, Rasharkin, and literally gave him an hour to pack his bags.
I am so relieved for the victims that their 40 year nightmare is over and their story has been validated and believed.
I have accompanied one of the victims for 5 year plus.
That girl has been to hell and back.
Her abuse has overshadowed her whole life
I hope this verdict, the fact that she has been believed and the grace of God will lead her to the fullest healing possible.
As in the past, I will continue to walk with her.

If he has bedn found guilty he’s a criminal. But vile beast? He’s still a human being. How do you square your denunciation with Jesus’ words to visit those in prison. If you did something positive for his victims that would be be a different matter. Yours is a tabloid reaction. Does it make you feel virtuous?

I am delighted for Murray’s victims.
There is something deeply dark and vile about romanist priesthood that attracts this type of person. Yes, I know what the priest-haters who post here will say: Nonsense! There are perverts in every profession: in medicine, in teaching, in the police, and so on. But the perverts who join these ranks are truly interested in the work they do. Priesthood, on the other hand, draws men who aren’t in the slightest interested in serving Christ, otherwise they would not behave as they do.
Priesthood attracts these and other men precisely because it was NEVER about serving Christ, but about serving the lower self.
Jesus did not institute priesthood, because he never wanted priesthood. He obviated it for a reason: he did what it could never do.
The very existence of priesthood and priests is an open and blatant denial of Christ’s salvific death. No wonder nothing but evil has come from it.

I agree with you Magna. But I wish to add an observation.
The priesthood can attract such vile men. But 7 years of observation and formation should be able to root out such vile men. Clearly it does not but the State subsidies Maynooth by the rental of buildings and land while also recognising it’s training within the State University.
We are truly better with little or no priests than bad priests. And I say this while trying to do my best in my own patch, navigate the politics that would have me assassinated and just try to be authentic as I can in what I now think to be a dysfunctional organisation.

You are an effeminate, pius, fair haired, blue eyed, glasses wearing, skinny bitchy nerd who was kicked out of Maynooth. I remember the gin parties in your room (but alcohol was banned from the rooms, remember?). You also had a crush on Fr. Brendan Kealy, a sort of pseudo-daddy figure in your life. I know you still meet with him for dinner and drinks in Dublin.
I know Pat may refrain from showing my comment but yes, I know who you are Magna. I hope your real daddy is ok, I know he has a problem with alcohol (like you) but I hope you are both getting the help you need. You really did not make much of yourself since you got booted out of Maynooth. You were too smart for your own good, but with no real discernible talent. Anyway, it got you nowhere in the end.

Anyhow, sounds to me as though his past may well have caught up with him, and if he has been found guilty, then I would expect that he will go to prison for some time. There will be many a priest with questionable pasts and things that they thought were long since forgotten, waiting for a knock at the door and thinking about having to face the truth of what they have done, and the consequences. It is important that these kinds of cases are pursued and brought to justice, if only as a way of saying to a younger generation that you will be answerable for your actions if you abuse somebody. So don’t.

What, say 10per cent are paedophiles that’s 40,000 worldwide. It’s industrial strength child abuse . Imagine Fatger celebrating Mass wants to have sex with your 10 year old daughter or son – it’s astonishing and beyond scandalous.
It’s their biggest secret though isnt it and it’s been going on for centuries- I think it’s because a clerics sexuality is locked and like Lewis Caroll the thought of adult consenting sex – pubic hair, noises and smells, they find utterly repulsive, and like Orwell too, they prefer their sexual partners to be pre pubescent and non consenting.

When Jehoshaphat king of Judah returned safely to his palace in Jerusalem, Jehu(A) the seer, the son of Hanani, went out to meet him and said to the king, “Should you help the wicked and love those who hate the Lord? Because of this, the wrath of the Lord is on you. There is, however, some good in you, for you have rid the land of the Asherah poles and have set your heart on seeking God.”
JEHOSAPHAT APPOINTS JUDGES.
Jehoshaphat lived in Jerusalem, and he went out again among the people from Beersheba to the hill country of Ephraim and turned them back to the Lord, the God of their ancestors. He appointed judges [and magistrates] in the land, in each of the fortified cities of Judah. He told them, “Consider carefully what you do, because you are not judging for mere mortals but for the Lord, who is with you whenever you give a verdict… Now let the fear of the Lord be on you. Judge carefully, for with the Lord our God there is No injustice or partiality or bribery…”

Er, so let’s get this straight, you think their laicised because their names aren’t on the diocesan website – duh, neither is Eddie Clare or John Gilbert hun but they ain’t laicised.
I don’t need to email anybody my post was for you to qualify your assertion and you couldn’t because you don’t know but you claimed to know.
I just called you out by asking some simple questions and you couldn’t answer any of them.
Write to Longkey or some suit are you havin a larf.
Typical clergy ask them simple questions and they run for their mummy!!

You asserted (rather obnoxiously) that a poster was Wrong and that Quigkey was laicised as a fact.
The poster enquired further and you capitulated that you didn’t, in fact, have any authority to either confirm or deny your arrogant and ill informed assertion as a fact thus rendering completely futile and meaningless your assertion that Quigley was laicised
I think we can safely conclude that neither Quigley or Walsh are reduced to the the lay state laymen and will remain both societies problem and the church’s.
