I watched part of the ordination ceremony from Ferns on Sunday.
I liked the music provided by the women (deliberately?) placed in the sanctuary.
I listened to Ger’s words at the end and I have to say I liked them.
Ger comes across as sincere and kind-hearted.
He spoke about inclusivity and his desire to work with people rather than dominate them.
He seems to like the word synodality.
His problem will be that he has now become part of what a deceased priest friend of mine called: “a bad lot’.
The RC episcopy destroys most of the people admitted to it.
They stop being the people they are and become naaty characters.
Will that happen to Ger?
He has already had his knuckles slapped for openly saying he agreed with the ordination of women.
He is entering a period of emptying pews, a disgraced presbyterate, few real vocations and declining funding.
And his national “leader” is Amy Martin 🤕.
Dear Bible Thumper
Thank you for doing so much to educate people regarding God’s Law. I have learned a great deal from your you, and I try to share that knowledge with as many people as I can. When someone tries to defend the homosexual lifestyle, for example, I simply remind him that Leviticus 18:22 clearly states it to be an abomination. End of debate.
I do need some advice from you, however, regarding some of the specific laws and how to best follow them.
a. When I burn a bull on the altar as a sacrifice, I know it creates a pleasing odour for the Lord ( Lev 1:9 ). The problem is my neighbours. They claim the odour is not pleasing to them. Should I smite them?
b) I would like to sell my daughter into slavery, as sanctioned in Exodus 21:7 . In this day and age, what do you think would be a fair price for her?
c) I know that I am allowed no contact with a woman while she is in her period of menstrual uncleanliness ( Lev 15:19-24 ). The problem is, how do I tell? I have tried asking, but most women take offense.
d) Lev. 25:44 states that I may indeed possess slaves, both male and female, provided they are purchased from neighbouring nations. A friend of mine claims that this applies to Mexicans, but not Canadians. Can you clarify? Why can’t I own Canadians?
e) I have a neighbour who insists on working on the Sabbath. Exodus 35:2 clearly states he should be put to death. Am I morally obligated to kill him myself?
f) A friend of mine feels that even though eating shellfish is an Abomination ( Lev 11:10 ), it is a lesser abomination than homosexuality. I don’t agree. Can you settle this?
g) Lev 21:20 states that I may not approach the altar of God if I have a defect in my sight. I have to admit that I wear reading glasses. Does my vision have to be 20/20, or is there some wiggle room here?
h) Most of my male friends get their hair trimmed, including the hair around their temples, even though this is expressly forbidden by Lev 19:27 . How should they die?
i) I know from Lev 11:6-8 that touching the skin of a dead pig makes me unclean, but may I still play football if I wear gloves?
j) My uncle has a farm. He violates Leviticus 19:19 by planting two different crops in the same field, as does his wife by wearing garments made of two different kinds of thread (cotton/polyester blend). He also tends to curse and blaspheme a lot. Is it really necessary that we go to all the trouble of getting the whole town together to stone them? ( Lev 24:10-16 ) Couldn’t we just burn them to death at a private family affair like we do with people who sleep with their in-laws? ( Lev. 20:14 )
I know you have studied these things extensively, so I am confident you can help.
Thank you again for reminding us that God’s word is eternal and unchanging.
144 replies on “THE NEW RC BISHOP OF FERNS.”
The bible thumper thing Pat is so spot on. I am afraid on the Ger Nash point of view he will just become like the rest of them. They all do, maybe not sooner as he tries to come across as ‘relevant’ and ‘with it’ but that will change later in time. I have seen them all come and go. As a dear priest friend told me once about bishops generally, “they all piss in the same pot”. Ger Nash will be no different maybe not soon but later. The Mitre always literally goes to the head.
The rastas in Lozells in the 1960s dealt with (c) by hanging a red rag on the door handle of the house.
I also think Ger is a sincere man of God. He will do his utmost for the Diocese of Ferns. We are living in very changed and changing times. Ger needs our prayers. Despite the horrendous effects of clerical abuse, and the pabdemic, which has caused many of to rethink our religious beliefs and values, I believe we would have decreasing congregations. The evolution of society, our philosophies of life, alternative systems of spirituality, freedom and independence of mind and thought, better education – all have effects on faith and religious belief. We seem unable to absorb the enormity of change as a Church, yet It’s unfolding before our eyes. I am almost at a loss for a new imagination and creativity to respond in meaningful ways. We radically need new poets, visionaries and prophets. We need as a Church to reimagine the living out of the gospel of Christ without the constraints of burdensome laws, edicts and institutional clericalism. God bless Bishop Nash.
@ Anonymous 12.10 am.
This is an excellent post.
They’ve been trying and doing all that ACP manifesto stuff since the 1960s. If you want to see it in full flower look at the Church in Germany, or the Anglicans. It hasn’t done them much good.
Your instinct is right in this case, Pat. Ger is one of the good ones.
He appears to be one of the good ones. My contacts from many different sources have spoken very highly of him.
News of this new bishop is very interesting.
Meanwhile, in other news, the BBC NEWS website reports today seventh September, that “in Madhya Pradesh, India, young girls under five are paraded naked with a frog tied to a wooden shaft on their shoulders to summon rain from the RAIN GODS”
The district administrator said, ………. “we can only make villagers aware about the futility of such superstition and that such practices don’t yield results. ”
I wonder how the Vatican views this arcane practice 🤔
…………..and how it might comment if asked to explain how muttering a formula over a wafer before eating it believing it to be God🤔🤔🤔
8.59: MMM, you’ve expressed this disgusting, irreverent, mocking and sneering cynicism so often before…Are you turning into Magna Clone with the constant repeat contemptible narratives? You may not accept any Catholic teachings: that’s your choice but the ongoing sneering is unacceptable. I expect much more from your learned mind. You and I have argued frequently for tolerance and respect for differing perspectives. You agreed. What’s happened?
Nothing “happened ” @ 9:52. I’m simply pointing out the parallels between other religious practices and Christian ones. Asking questions: that’s what it is.
But as always, some individuals just don’t being asked questions about their cherished beliefs. They might say it’s okay to query “other Gods”, ‘cos they’re the “wrong Gods.”
God has big enough shoulders to carry criticism. He trained for it by carrying a large, heavy wooden object.
Offensive Minnie @ 8:59am
Minnie time you were in the Maximum Security Dementia Home, you really are offensive as well as demented.
10.30: What doe this mushy comment mean? Seriously, Pat?
Flannery O’Connor quipped she had no problem with transubstantiation but had trouble believing that the wafer was verily bread.
Interesting that the Liturgy of Addai and Mari avoids the hocus-pocus formula and was recently accepted by Rome.
O Seraphim, I do enjoy your comments. x
A far better response to the lads Pat, well up to your usual standard!
Watching the consecration, I thought it was very low key and that he looked glum. I think I was wrong – they were signs of humility.
Humility is not always a good thing, remember the ever so humble Uriah Heep the Pharisee of all Pharisee’s.
You won’t need any external motivation to humility. Your spelling and punctuation ensure your close to the ground.
Just like “you’re ” (sic) own spilling (sic!) @ 11:49. 😆🤗🤭
No sign of his replacement Fr. Michael Collins on Killaloe Diocesan Website or Newmarket on Fergus parish website….. No contact details…. Frs. Jerry and Ger c/o Diocesan Office…
Nasty! Granny Grammar back again from heights of Academia . She is of course the lowest of the low.
If you adopt that attitude, Bella, your many mistakes will never be eliminated. How can you claimto understand what’s being said at a Mass in the abrogated Tridentine form of the Roman rite in Latin when you are barely literate in your mother tongue and adopt an incorrigible attitude when corrected?
Michael Collins lol
The real reason the cathbots foam at the mouth every time MMM and MC comment is that they have both previously been seminarians and left. The code of omerta means that they are forever scapegoats. It is exactly like leaving the mafia.
Not exactly, they don’t have to worry, that they soon would be sleeping with the fish.
I think the real reason that the cathbots foam at the mouth at Magna and MMM is that they often make a great deal of sense and argue their positions well. As private Jones said ‘they don’t like it up em’.
Thank you Paul. I think that SENSE is notably absent in any cathbots, and certainly the clerical ones who display that absence here on such a regular basis.
The reason they keep displaying it?………why of course, their lack of it, and inability to appreciate that reality.
10:47 and 11:14
Yes – both great comments. Plus I will forever hear their comments ending with the words Captain Mainwaring.
Nah! Paul that’s just your opinion, we are always going to retaliate to all the offensive heretical rhetoric coming from these two apostates. ‘The don’t like it up them either’
You let yourself down when you mistake MC’s psychotic and offensive ramblings for a well-argued position. You show you don’t know the first thing about logical and persuasive argument.
‘we are always going to retaliate’
Nice attitude that.
Magnas posts are interesting,. MMM is a bore.
I think that MMM’s posts are thought provoking.
10.47: Paul, you have been brainwashed by your mentor bishop, Pat. Sadly. MMM and Magna deserve the criticisms they receive: they din’t like “it” up em either. Your intelligence has to be low since you are part of the Oratory…Copy Pat’s attitude in all things..
I’m afraid you don’t Paul at all. He is a highly independent man whom I couldn’t brainwash if I wanted, which I don’t.
My favorite bible passage is the bit where Jesus tells the disciples to stone the woman caught in adultery… For getting caught.
Yes @ 12:08. After all it is boring to some being asked to exercise their limited amount of brainpower and nouce. But they say exercise enhances capacity, so keep at it: you might even manage to become a half wit, and no longer a dim wit.
Seems some priests in Scotland do !!
Oh, I think Paul understands perfectly ‘the first thing about logical and persuasive argument’. Aye. And more than the first thing.
He certainly persuaded you to take him seriously.😅
Paul Creaner “Magna” quotes that quote all the time of Private Jones. So you’re Maggie Cartwheels??? At last, her identity is revealed! It certainly figures given your background and type! 😁
Paul, now you know what I have to endure through this romanist obsession with identifying me. They never once got it right, a tradition the poster at 6.27 is proudly continuing.
I’m too charitable to call them ‘losers’.
Peace be with you my brothers and sisters in Christ! Peace be with you my fellow comment makers of different faiths and none!
People who use the derogatory word “xxxxbot(s)” are NOT genuinely interested in a conversation about what is right.
Catholics, people of different faiths and none, who are open for a discussion about what is right, have no need to respond with derogatory words.
Is mise le meas,
I wouldn’t particularly be bothered about the word but knowing it annoys you so much makes it worth it.
Still can’t speak idiomatic Irish, I see.
3:25, are you another of Magna’s posse?
5:25 No. Some people think independently. That’s why we call you a cathbot. It implies the robotic behaviour you imagine in other people and also suggests you’re an arse.
Nár chuire Dia ar do leas thú
You and your kind get your socks in a twist at the suggestion that you do not have independent thinking. You then accuse those you do agree with of not having independent thinking. Hypocrites!
Oh, so you are using a derogatory word to describe people in herds rather than individuals.
If you are getting your knickers in a twist, that’s your own business. I will not judge you! 😉
Many of us can have a conversation about what is right without the use of derogatory words. It’s clearly beyond you.
Thank you for admitting that you see people in herds rather than as individuals. It’s sad really. BTW the English idiom is to get your knickers in a twist not socks.
Surely you’re not going to try to claim you are too coy to say knickers despite being a cathbot!
How many Catholics in Ferns?
How many Sunday Mass goers?
What does Ferns turnover?
What’s their reserve?
Why shouldn’t we?
I know for a fact that numbers won’t go up under Ger’s leadership.
Gosh yes a humble ordination for Bishop Ger. His shoes looked warn at the heel during the prostration. His mitre looked like a ‘Blue Peter’ job. No cassock under his alb and so much polyester that the atmosphere must’ve been ‘electric’.
God has no favourites when it comes to fabrics too.
Yes she has, she likes them fairly traded.
Surprised at the attacks that aimed at MC yesterday.
MC did lift the hidden veil re rcc as he had been incisive at times re their practices.
It left me wondering if rcc were or still using paganism practices now.
Another thing that had been bugging me re concept of sin. Nowhere did I see it mention venial or mortal sin? It was just mere mention of sin as jesus said ‘sin no more’. He didn’t break it down into venial and mortal sin. Where did these two words come from, did rcc invent these words to complicate matters a bit more.
Remember there were no masses, when jesus was alive. All of a sudden its a mortal sin to miss mass but I would like to highlight that the fact there were no masses taking place during jesus time or after.
Also allied to the possibility that there were no masses said in the first 200 or 300 years after jesus death.
Followers of jesus all did the preaching and travelling etc but nowhere re mention of mass in the bible re first 100 up to 300 years.
Is that another invention of rcc to bring in more guilt re imposition of sin when there was none in Jesus’s time or before or after him until 300AD? There was a list of specific sins mentioned in ten commandments which includes mention of sabbath (Saturday).
It led me to think that mass might be part of paganism practices re sacrifices in aztec, Egypt and other few places where it was mentioned. Its a kind of evolutionary approach by rcc, re adding more as time goes on. Seven sacraments didn’t exist at that time after jesus deaths. Its another example of adding it as they go along.
I remembered Donegal healer now deceased was saying that rcc was teaching the wrong way cos of no healings.
It led me to think that rcc was on the wrong track or veered off the track and lost their sense of mission. Also not attracting people plus their money as well because no healing were taking place. In jesus time, healings took place outside (not inside church which makes me ponder).
I was astonished when he was so sensitive to spiritual side of things. He cured people with stage 4 cancer by using God words in the scripture. Bishops banned him from saying in their churches as some of the die hard laity (group think) complained to their bishops re him.
He was right re lack of forgiveness could lead to all sort of things including sickness or cancer or anything that’s linked to unforgiveness. The problem was that some priests or bishops don’t preach this, it’s all love thing etc etc.
Before he passed away months later, I felt an electric current from his hands(shaking) going through me. He was gifted with faith that many of us didn’t have. Its the lack of faith that led to no healings. It comes from top down of rcc to laity.
Hence rcc is on the rocks and going nowhere. Me suspect its a gay haven since rcc abolished priest’s wife’s re benefits as to claim the property as they introduced the notion of celibacy which isn’t a dogma, more of a discipline.
Have a good look at other religions such as Greek or Russian or coptic orthodox married priests with very little scandals going on.
Is that an indication of where rcc was going off the track and lost their sense of mission or their roles etc.
In many ways Roman Catholicism is baptized paganism. This was a major criticism at the Reformation and when you look at the things most Protestants don’t have (such as priests, vestments, statues, etc etc) you have a summary of what they considered to have been introduced.
The other pagan influence we still see is that after Christianity became the state religion of the Roman empire in the fourth century it very much took on aspects of the empire, including the pomp and ceremony, the way it keeps trying to run the state and for example in the violent response above to any ideas considered heretical.
All a far cry from the rabbi who started it.
Great posts from DG, and Anon at 1.09.👍
Very well put!
I still don’t trust him, and in my opinion the only way you become a Roman Bishoo is by selling your soul to the devil. Anglican Bishoos also attempt to laud it over ’em — with Catastrophic consequences for their immoral actions. Ask +Paul.
(Keep ’em in the dark and feed ’em on horse manure).
Thankfully, things are changing… and for the better of all x X x X x X
His soul was sold to Satan long ago, at his ordination to a priesthood Jesus never intended and which, therefore, opposes everything he died for.
The mitre is his dark reward.
Utter nonsense, you’ll get your reward and it will be very dark and very hot.
1.47pm. So repetitive.
You know😞, that sounds sorta … kinky!😀
The second part of your screed is a non-sequitur from the first. There are many things not intended by the historical Jesus (Ministry is not one.) which are part and parcel of contemporary Catholicism, for example the combination of word and sacrament in the sacramental economy of the mysteries of salvation. The ministry of the historical Jesus was brief, between one and three years, and he was more interested in the present than the future. In other words, he left the expansion of his charism to Paul and the other apostles.
The definition of stupidity is doing or saying the same thing ad nauseam and expecting a different result.
Bird’s of a Feather!

Interesting re ‘keep them in the dark’.
Thats a classic RCC omerta = ‘keep us in the dark’ while something shady or bad or rotten that’s going inside rcc that we don’t know it until they were exposed like a rabbit caught in the headlights . Remember frankie use of ‘rabbits’.
Rcc is not about openness, more about keeping their secrets in the dark. Silence and secrecy go hand in hand.
Quite simply, I couldn’t trust rcc cos they weren’t honest nor upfront with us.
Bishops are sworn to secrecy and silence at their bishopric ordination. I’m not interested in coats of arms re poster above mentioned it.
Its their actions that defines them re cover ups and not honest with laity. If you want to know re Purcell or KOB, they should tell you the truth and not hide it or their silence not to say anything that might complicit them.
Couldn’t understand how phonsie got selected for a Bishop. He supports Purcell in a way. So therefore he’s supportive of Purcell sexual exploits. His motto is ‘don’t ask, don’t tell’ to any gay priests out there if interested to join his diocese.
Deaf Guy they are tested out on their ability not to cause trouble throughout priestly formation and if they dare to stand out in any way get kicked out. They may even be groomed to join the local daisy chain which ensures a smooth path through seminary.
Then before their ordination they have to make an oath of fidelity to the church and at their actual ordination they make the vow of obedience to the bishop that Magna refers to.
It starts well before episcopacy and you are stunningly unlikely to find any cleric who will not put the institution and his own comfort first.
That’s the real reason the clergy never admit to knowing any crimes going on in the church – they are so accustomed to not seeing.
this location is just a stone’s throw from Peter’s house. In fact, that is Peter’s usual jogging route. Right through them yellow-bars and onto the old railway / loop line.
One guy is from the Newton-le-Willows – Ashton-in-Makerfield area…
Interesting, I’ll Grant you that…
The people of Ferns can rejoice; Habemus Episcopum!
He spoke very well and gave a good explanation of the coat of arms. A central drop of water recalling our baptism, joining us to the turbulent sea below it.
May he guide with wisdom and have courage!
It’s not a coat of arms. It’s a logo.
I have a difficulty with using these passages from the Torah.
I don’t know why bible bashers build doctrine on them because Christ is the goal of the law. And even though they sound ridiculous to Christians it is offensive to Jews to make them out to be ridiculous because this is the Torah they aim to keep.
Even without using passages from the Hebrew bible it is possible to do the same exercise because as we know slavery is well supported in the New Testament.
Why is it Roman Catholicism?
Isn’t it more accurately Jerusalem, Nazareth or Bethlehem Catholicism?
Or why locate it geographically – isn’t the kingdom of heaven within you?
Isn’t Roman Catholicism something completely different from the experience of the early church?
Would Jesus. Peter or Paul even recognise the Church of Rome?
And do we honestly think that the new bishop of Ferns is a beneficiary of apostolic succession in a unbroken line from St Peter to himself?
Great questions. 👍
Jesus, Peter and Paul would be disgusted at the Church of Rome.
I think Jesus would again make a whip and drive out all the mammon worshippers at the Vatican, and then every romanist priest throughout the world.
A good clear-out is needed.
It’s Roman Catholicism because it is the church of Rome, which hath erred.
The Catholic church is also one, holy and apostolic and so the Church of Rome is not the Catholic church.
No the apostles wouldn’t recognise it, except as the Scarlet Woman.
It is possible that the bishop of Ferns is recipient of apostolic succession (as are all sorts of people in all sorts of groups, even the bizarre Palmarian church) however it is likely to be well nigh impossible to trace because the line was lost several centuries ago.
If you are in England and go to Westminster cathedral the tables of apostolic succession are didactic in intention and notorious for their fantasy.
Thinking about the kingdom of heaven being within and the local church comment above, there is yet another model which Christians don’t think of because they don’t come across it. When Gerald Gardner synthesised his religion of Wicca in the 1940s he envisaged it as being an Initiatory religion and the initiates would become the clergy for congregations which in reality never appeared. Instead what happened was that people left his line to create their own lineages, the idea of self initiation or initiation by divinity arose and ultimately it became a religion wholly of clergy. From the nineties the publication of books for solitaries arose which meant that you could practice it with no need ever to meet another member of the religion.
Of course this changed again as the internet became popular, but the idea of being in association with even a local church is not necessarily essential as the pandemic has shown. I think there will be increasing numbers of freelancers.
Because it used the structure and model of the Roman Empire to impose its beliefs.
1.36: Did not Paul talk about the Church at Corinth – the gathered people of God? Galatia and Jerusalem and Philipi?? Rome became the focal point over time. Perhaps we might have a better CHURCH as the community of God’s people if we became a more localised Church community with agreement by a Leadership Group. Most religious orders after the growth of their congregations set up regional leadership groups with chosen people to act as leaders. Works pretty well and while each hold faithfully to the charism of their founders, they adapt the living out of that charism within different cultures, traditions and local needs. Seems to me to be a good template.
1.53: Here we are again. Repeat poisonous, hate filled rants. Can this idiot – Mags – not make an argument without insult, lies and vitriol? Please. It is all too ugly and unnecessarily nasty.
Well if you don’t like poisonous hate- filled rants, stop going on them!
He’s ruined the blog.
He makes reading the blog dull and turns it into an effort. Pat has been told this many times but ignores it. I wouldn’t mind so much if there was a bit of variety, but he just comes out with the same insults a hundred times a week.
Oh I do so agree. I wish the cathbots would stick to the subject instead of going on about Magna Carta as well.
1.53: I’m afraid Magna that Jesus, Paul and Peter and all the saints in heaven would whip you for your complete avoidance of LOVE YOUR NEIGHBOUR AS YOURSELF: PRAY FOR THOSE YOU HATE: DO NOT JUDGE: DO NOT CONDEMN: TREAT OTHERS AS YOU WOULD LIKE TO BE TREATED…Magna – read the gospels. Absorb the message of Jesus, just for your good and humanity. Stop your repeat caca.
Maggs you’re incorrigible, you naughty bold boy!
Ah the reason for that Spanish Bishop’s resignation is being mooted in the Spanish press and it’s hilarious
Okay so, here is a list of all the offensive, derogatory and personal attacks made against one person namely – Magna Carta. I have taken these from Yesterday’s blog. Just ONE DAY mind, not a week, not a month, not a year, just ONE DAY. Here it is:
Mental and Emotional Outbursts
Poor Rejected Reject
Pathological, Psychotic Sick Man
Now, is that not a clear example of Trolling and Constant Bullying and Abusive Behaviour.
REMEMBER what I said at the beginning.
Yes it is.
Hard to disagree with that list. It reads like the letter Maynooth sent to his bishop explaining why he was getting the heave ho.
Name me, then. 😅
See?😕 Didn’t I tell y’all that romanist priests are liars by definition? It’s inevitable when you sell your soul to serve such a morally dark institution as the RCC.😈
Hi Betty, you shouldn’t be surprised when you read his hate filled posts. To see all those responses!!!!!!!!!
Pat knows full well that those descriptions better fit Roman Catholics and especially the clergy. The reason he lets them puke their rubbish over his blog and ultimately won’t criticise them is that he is compromised by his dependence on them, particularly priests, for revelations of what fresh iniquity is going on. He won’t risk finally upsetting the priests because they are his source of news and he won’t risk having the clerical fraternity close ranks further. In this he is no better than they are, I am afraid, because he knows full well that every cleric and member of the cult would happily murder him given a chance.
Thank you, Betty. That anthology of disdain took time and effort to compile.
I’m rather like Pat about personal abuse: it’s all water off a duck’s back to me.
Had I any regard at all for these romanist parasites, I’d be stung by their intended barbs, but I’m not that sensitive.
My complete contempt for these men, and for their inability to make competent counter-argument against my posts critical of the dark institution they serve over Christ (hence the insults instead), means that I literally laugh when they are forced to such reaction, and at the fact that they, so-called ‘men of God’, are personally reduced by it: they, and the priesthood they stupidly claim was willed by Jesus.😅
Peace be with you. When you are corrected, you go away and hide. You also have shown that you are not a man of your word.
I’m sure you were looking your ecumenical best as you tuned in for the Episcopal Ordination on Sunday. A man has answered the second call of Christ!
It’s also representative of Pat’s failure to maintain any basic rules on this blog, which leads to him not managing things even handedly on the incredibly rare occasions he does step in. He banned Magna at one point, but the cathbots behave considerably worse than he does. What Magna says is ‘priesthood was not intended by Christ’, which is a common belief among Protestants. But Pat allows a stream of abuse.
How’s the abstinence going, Magna?
5.11: Magna: You are a thick skinned specimen. You are responsible for all the opprobrium heaped on you. You make some excellent points at times but surely there is mo need to constantly abuse priests. We know you intensely dislike them. Irrespective of your disdain you are not entitled to write narratives of hate incitement. They are offensive. I am of the opinion that only a tiny handful of clergy comment about you and do so frequently in a day. There are many odd non clerical commenters on this blog. You repeat Betty’s collection of words used about you, yet you are as abusive and offensive to many. Make your points rationally, calmly and respectfully. For a long, long time you have written very vicious, hurtful ugliness of thought. You have been challenged with respect by some but you also have evoked and inspired nasty, provocative and repulsive verbiage. Sometimes, it is useful to reflect in our own behaviour instead of always letting everything roll off you like water off a duck’s back. It helps to self examine our own nastiness.
Had one lapse about two months ago. But got back on track.
6.17pm, well done, Magna, I’m genuinely pleased for you. I’m off the drink for 16 months now. It is difficult and I’ve had a few slips in the past, but I’m very glad to be where I am today. I was more or less drinking myself to death and am glad I came to my senses. I did it by myself, though others find the AA helpful.
I’m delighted for you.
Yes,it is difficult; incredibly difficult.
3.55: Betty: sadly, all descriptions are true. Now, go and read the hurtful adjectives and hate filled verbiage of Magna towards others. You may be surprised at the frequency of his vitriolic, debasing, ignorant descriptions of others, priests particularly. You seem like a new comer to this blog. May I suggest that you read previous comnentary by Magna. You’ll quickly discover he ain’t a saint and that he has used ugly, nasty and offensive narratives. Stop fooling yourself.
Good luck to ya, I’m glad yer off the gargle, I knew all those Memoraries would not go to waste.
I do not believe any individual can become a Roman Catholic Bishop these days without being, somehow, morally compromised or even outright depraved.
Sad but true.
Felt sorry for Nash cis he’s seemed to be a good person, who was handed a poisoned chalice.
I’m not familiar with rcc rules re bishops but just wondering, can any priest out there if offered a bishopric, refuse rcc offer and stay or remain as a priest🤔🤔🤔
Any Ordained Roman Catholic Priest can be a Bishop.
Three names are sent to Rome.
However it is well known that some Priests asked to be Bishops turn it down however it is never confirmed as they would not want the New Bishop to think he was second or third best.
Betser at 3.55: You’re a quick learner. I’m sure you’ll agree that all these words and phrases epitomize Magna’s behaviour. She’s a tough bitch. She can well defend herself. Also, Betser, this blig encourage a nasty comnentary.
Bullying, , trolling, key board warriors, haters, cynics they are tiresome and predictable.
Magma Carta is none of the above but it is fascinating the ire his post attracts and says more about his detractors than it does about him.
It’s refreshing that the moderator respects freedom of speech and the right to reply.
Leave Magna Carta alone – he’s as much right to express his view than anybody and he’s smart enough to defend himself and make his point.
One of his points is how bankrupt TC clergy are – and judging by the reaction to hiim, he has a point!!
Magna of course has every right to express his view, make his point and defend himself.
Just correct him sometime when he is wrong and see how you get on! 😉😆
And there’s your problem. You talk about correcting and what is right and are unable to respect any view other than your own.
You’re a priest aren’t you.
Imagine my consternation, Pat, when I turned up for my new term Italian class in the Greg, only to spy in my class Big Mac, AKA Moaning Mary McAleese AKA la vecchia trota.
Mi dispiace che paura per te povera anima.
The heroic Mr McAleese is also doing Italian in the Greg, but he’s in the dunces’ class so they don’t sit together. Mary is haranguing any priest or sem who makes the mistake of asking her what her name is. She obviously expects to be recognised. 😂😂😂
Ah, I see the blog has been taken over again. Ah well, might check in again tomorrow.
I’m crying with laughter here.
It’s the comment saying only a couple of priests comment on here every day.
This is a failed attempt at reputation management or else the person is acquainted with the online activity of every English speaking priest in the world 🤣
And then there are the insults from the usual suspects saying Magna has taken over the blog 😂
6.17: Magna, your confessing about a lapse in your self recovery is understandable. Any of us who is on a pathway out of personal, traumatic episodes deserves support and encouragement. Usually such self scrutiny as required by therapy programmes ought to spur us to a greater empathy and kindness towards others. You have imprinted in your mind one truth only about priests – unfair, unjust and oppressive – and it’s uncompromising but it is also a truth when expressed in your bitter, crushing offensiveness hurts and crushes many. I have noticed on this blog that priests who have disclosed honestly truths about their personal struggles and brokenness that your respinse is one of utter contempt and disdain. It is essential that you examine your own responses to other people’s/priest’s sufferings in a kinder, more Christian way. Why the need for your torrent of gleeful disdain? Vengeance and anger will destroy you.
I’m not Magna Carta but on the subject of gleeful disdain – I would experience great disdain if the RC church was forced to live on one island away from normal people. Failing that the ongoing arrest and trial of evil priests helps this scourge to stop disfiguring the face of the Earth
6.09: Regrettably, once again we have The Magna Show, starting the inimitable one and only Magna himself. Pat, it’s a complete turn off. Every day you are facilitating the same, repetitive mantras from him, much of it very morally reprehensible in its content.
Members of the Anglican Church in Wales’s governing body yesterday voted overwhelmingly in favour of a change to church law to allow a “service of blessing following a civil partnership or marriage between two people of the same sex”.
Don’t talk about the Anglicans! It’ll make the holy priests foam at the mouth again!
I’ve listened, carefully, to all the complaints made today, likely by RC clergy, about the nature of my comments on RC priests in general, and on RC priesthood in particular. And I’ve come to a rather startling conclusion: even if I ceased calling these priests ‘parasites’, ‘spongers’, ‘moochers’, scroungers’, ‘Christ-betrayers’, and the like (incidentally, all of which they are), they would still whine, still accuse me of ‘hate-speech’, of being ‘dysfunctional’ and ‘psychotic’, of having been ‘booted out of Maynooth’, and all the pejorative rest (see Betty’s list at 3.55) if I continued with my firmly held thesis that Jesus never intended to replace one intermediary agency (levitical priesthood) with another (Roman Catholic priesthood), and that every Roman Catholic ordinand promises or vows to obey not Christ, but a bloated (usually), mitred representative of, unquestionably now, one of the most corrupt and corrupting, baleful institutions in human history : the Roman Catholic Church.
They just don’t want criticism of ANY kind, these priests; it offends not so much their testy sensibilities as their overarching self-regard and their self-proclaimed ontological exceptionalism and entitlement.
I’m typing this in the reflective quiet of the stable yard in beautiful Castle Ward, on this balmy sunny evening while resting from a bout of ferociously fast mountain-biking along the forest trails here. And I’ve just had another startling thought: God is working his will through me, because my firmly held thesis about RC priests and priesthood is actually and objectively correct: God wants the abolition of this priesthood, and if it does not occur soon, he will take measures far stronger than offensive-sounding words from me.
Dear ‘Fathers’, you can go quietly, or not so quietly. But you are going. Count on it.

1900 “Nietzsche is dead.” (God)
Magna at 7.08: Perhaps you might appreciate more the effects which your very ugly, distasteful and unedifying commentary has on others. You do not impress with the volatility of your mind. This essay is that of a 7 year old school yard bully. Sadly, Magna, it would appear that for many years you have become a grotesque presence on this blog. You are seeking to evoke pity and mercy. Try instead to understand your own personal reasons for such unnecessary silliness and anger. We’ll pray for you. Surely, you are not beyond changing?
7.08. Dear Magna, seek help through the confessional or therapy. You are digging holes deeper by the day. You are doing yourself a grave disservice in this self pitying comment. It’s sad that with your clever mind at times and with worthwhile insights to offer, that you are frequently a catalyst for venomous, unkind and most uncharitable dialogues. Why do so many, cleric and non clerics have such dislike of you? Bring this question to your heart tonight.
7.07: Magna, you make the case against you with precision and hang yourself by this “v”omment. Despite the horrendous adjectives and phrases used of you (all of which are true), you have, since birth I would contend, a deeply malnourished spirit, perhaps made all the more destructive as you grew through life. In your own admissions, you’ve had challenges, mental and otherwise. Irrespective of the hurt YOU feel (which you pretend not to feel), you have no legitimate reasons to pour out your rage and hatred, for that is what your words are. Some major issue disturbed you psychologically and sadly, you are in a state of permanent angst, vindictiveness and jealousy. A major contributory to your malaise is your Maynooth rejection. Simple as. Why is it that invariably every time you comment, you hijack the blog? You, Magna, are not a victim but you victimise many with your mendacious, ugly words. Go get a life and stop whingeing and sobbing in self pity. Thank God for priesthood and may he bless all our many, many good priests. Magna, you’ve found a new friend in Betty. Hold on to her because you seem so miserable, alone and friendless. You, most certainly, have created your own misery and unlikeability. Try to be honest with yourself and stop hogging the limelight. There has to be something seriously disconnected in your psyche that you appear on this blog 24/7 – always seeking attention. Think about it. Ask why.
“The sun was shining on the sea,
Shining with all his might:
He did his very best to make
The billows smooth and bright —
And this was odd, because it was
The middle of the night.“
If Nash publicly rejects church teach regarding holy orders, it is a massive insult to orthodox Christians to make him a bishop. The papal nunico’s judgement must be questioned in this case.
The teaching of the church is perpetually developing – thanks to the nature of humanity and Christ’s and the Father’s gift of the Holy Spirit.
You mean the teaching of the Magisterium. The Magisterium is not the Church, nor has it any authority to teach untruth, which it did, for centuries, in its moral sanctioning of the death penalty.
‘The moon was shining sulkily,
Because she thought the sun
Had got no business to be there
After the day was done —
“It’s very rude of him,” she said,
“To come and spoil the fun.”’
Zanchetta, Bergoglio’s BFF, is going on trial in Argentina in October.
Can you believe this shit. Traditional Catholic bishop from Spain has an affair with a satanist. The church is totally screwed uphttps://www.telegraph.co.uk/world-news/2021/09/07/spanish-bishop-resigns-falling-love-author-satanic-themed-erotic/
Better the Devil you know! 🙄 Lol 🤣
He sounds a bit of a rebel, but will he be able to stand up to the Aul Doll, Bp Pat? I wonder.
What’s happening with Mick Collins in Killaloe ?
Killaloe stalker alert.
You mean Mark Moriarty the ex Kerry Seminarian who is claiming squatters rights in the Parochial House.
Mark is not there long enough to do that. It has to be at least 12 years.
Mark won’t leave becuase of the Gin Picture which exposed his alcoholism and lavish lifestyle in Bara and Night Clubs.
Pat why is he still there and refusing to vacate the property.
I never heard he was refusing to leave the property. He has no legal right to possession. Are you making this up?
